Essbase.cfg file

I am a novice and would like to know how to set the parameters in Cfg file. When I have opened the file I am seeing only one entry there in that filei.e about JVMModulelocation. I wonder why all those default settings are not shown there? Can someone guide me on this?Jaya

JVMModulelocation .This Itself sets all default options.if you want means you can add some commands to change default settings and you can see it through app manager.Let me know if you have any Questions ?ThanksSreenivas

  • Not finding ESSBASE.CFG

    Hello Gurus!
I am very new to Essbase.
I had Hyperion Essbase 11.1.13 installed. When I added my first essbase server from the administration services console, it was added. Yet when I tried to open it i got the following error "Error: 1042017: Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay values in the ESSBASE.CFG file. Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again."
My problem is is that when I finally found the file essbase.cfg from F:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin, it consisted of the following:
; The following entry specifies the full path to JVM.DLL
    JvmModuleLocation F:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\client\jvm.dll
BPM_Oracle_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle Wire Protocol"
    BPM_DB2_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT DB2 Wire Protocol"
BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT SQL Server Wire Protocol"
    BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "SQL Server"
    ;BPM_Netezza_DriverDescriptor "NetezzaSQL"
    BPM_Teradata_DriverDescriptor "Teradata"
    BPM_ORACLEBI_DriverDescriptor "Oracle BI Server"
    AuthenticationModule CSS
    AGENTPORT 1423
    SERVERPORTBEGIN 32768
    SERVERPORTEND 33768
    AGENTDESC hypservice_1
and I found nothing about NetRetryCount or NetDelay. Is it possible that I downloaded the file the wrong way and that the essbase.cfg isn't complete?
Also, I read in a forum post that essbase.cfg is supposed tp be located in the directory $ARBORPATH but I haven't found such a folder when I searched for it.
BTW I don't think it is exactly a network problem as I pinged the server and it worked just fine.
Any help is appreaciated. Thanks in advance :)

    Thanks for response John :)
the essbase.cfg now looks like this:
; The following entry specifies the full path to JVM.DLL
    JvmModuleLocation F:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\client\jvm.dll
BPM_Oracle_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle Wire Protocol"
    BPM_DB2_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT DB2 Wire Protocol"
BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT SQL Server Wire Protocol"
    BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "SQL Server"
    ;BPM_Netezza_DriverDescriptor "NetezzaSQL"
    BPM_Teradata_DriverDescriptor "Teradata"
    BPM_ORACLEBI_DriverDescriptor "Oracle BI Server"
    AuthenticationModule CSS
    AGENTPORT 1423
    SERVERPORTBEGIN 32768
    SERVERPORTEND 33768
    AGENTDESC hypservice_1
    NETDELAY 1000
    NETRETRYCOUNT 2000
is it missing something?like a semicolumn or sth?
Also, in the error msg it says:Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again.
    my questions are:
1- How do I update client and server
2- how do I restart the client?
Is there any reading material to help me with this?

  • Delete essbase log file daily

    Hi
I would like essbase to delete application log file each day,
    how can I do it?
    Thx

How about the CLEARLOGFILE Essbase.cfg file setting?
Setting it to TRUE will overwrite the Essbase server and application logs whenever Essbase is restarted.
Also, there's a EXCEPTIONLOGOVERWRITE setting that allows the overwrite of .xcp files.
Both of these can be found in the Technical Reference guide.

  • Essbase BAK, SEC, CFG files

    Gurus,
If I want to export-import (copy) Essbase .bak, .sec, and cfg files from one environment how do we copy them. Can I just copy and paste it to the target environment? Also what folder do i need to copy it to?
    Thanks

You're quite correct in noting that the artifacts out of LCM are different looking than what you might get out of a nightly backup process, although I think a lot of it is mostly the same.
LCM takes care of moving everything across environments although I don't think Essbase.sec is moved across. In fact, if you look at the LCM documentation, you'll note that Essbase.sec is NOT migrated. However the filters that live in Essbase.sec are migrated at a database level.
    Take a look here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_lifecycle_management/apds04.html
What are you trying to do? Backup? Migrate? Both? Do you really and truly need to use backup files to do migrations? Why not use LCM to do the migration? That's why Oracle created it. And that's why the documentation team went into some trouble to write scenario-based documentation (that was not an accident, btw) to help you migrate. You should take a good look at those docs -- I know I was really pleased when I ran across the Planning migration docs -- I had figured it out (mostly) but it was nice to know that the steps I had trialed-and-errored my way into were for the most part correct.

  • Update Essbase Cfg setting using MAXL or ESSCMD

    Hi All,
I want to change the essbase.cfg settings using MAXL or Esscmd. Is this possible? I could figure out changing Substitution Variables but am looking forward to change settings like CALCCACHE, etc...
If yes, please let me know any insights on the same.
    Thanks,
    AJ.

There is no pre defined feature that allows you to do this, but if you want to override the values in .cfg file, depending on what those values are, you can just set them in your calc script, ie: CalcCache, etc. It is best to do this manually anyway, as once you finished, you will need to recycle the Essbase service for them to take effect.

  • Essbase Audit Files not Updating

    Hi All,
My Essbase Audit files are not updating....both .ALG and .ATX files.
They used to update up to the last month but those are not updating.
I checked the .cfg file and is okay with SAUDITR.
    Please suggest.

Some of the terminology Dreamweaver uses can make what you're saying a bit confusing, so I'm going to try to clarify so we can better understand the situation.
You and your coworker are each on your work computers using Dreamweaver. You have both created site definitions in Dreamweaver, pointing to a folder on your company's internal server.
The "Local Site Folder" setting of your site definition should be pointing to a location on your own computer. The same setting on your coworker's site definition in Dreamweaver should be pointing to a location on their computer.
This means that when you select "Local view" in the Files panel, it will only show files on your computer. Likewise, when your coworker does the same, it will only show files on their computer.
It is the "Server Folder" setting in the server settings on each of your computers that should be pointing to that folder on your company's internal server.
This means that when you select "Remote Server" (or "Testing Server" if you checked that box instead for the server in your site definition) in the Files panel, you will be viewing the files on your company's server.
In order to essentially share files between your copy of Dreamweaver and your coworker's, you need to "upload" (i.e. copy) files from your Local View to your Remote Server. Your coworker would then see these files by looking at Remote Server on their computer. And the reverse is true; they upload from Local View to Remote Server, and you would see the files by looking at the Remote Server view on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to start Essbase app when activating JVM in Essbase.cfg

    Hi,
I am using Essbase 6.5.3, one of my application that uses a CDF won't start when activating the JVM in Essbase.cfg. Please help. Thanks.

I have successfully tested CDF in Essbase v6.5.7.
Can you please answer below questions.
    1. Did you place the CDF file at respective location ?(Normally, there is a JAVA directory and you can place in that directory or create a new directory and place it in that directory under JAVA)
    2. Did you update udf.policy file? Updating this file is required if you are using a cdf function like JExport which will extract the data and store in a file or database.
    3. Did you set the JVM to the correct location? When you start an application are you getting a message like "JVM Initialization Failed". If the message appears, then the possible cause would be with your JVM setting.
    4. Did you register the function to that specific application? You can register it directly from Application manager or use a MAXL Script to register the function.
Once you have successfully done the above steps, restart the application and check the log file
If successfully registered, you will see a message as
"Function "@JExport" registered [OK] (Similar kind of message.
If you still get error message, please post the log file content of that application.

  • Changing the CFG file

If i have changed the CFG file
will that cause a issue with Starting
    Foundation Services
    Admin Services
    and
    Essbase Server
    Please advise

I am not sure what you have changed but the WebLogic deployments should be independent of essbase, so in theory no it shouldn't cause an issue.
    Cheers

  • CFG file questions Part II

when making adjustment to the CFG file
can you just shut down the Essbase server and Restart
or do you have to stop EPM completely
    for the changes to updated

No you don't need to restart the whole of EPM just the essbase server.
    Also from the docs -
"After editing the configuration file, perform the proper action to have the configuration file reread:
If the setting applies to the server, stop and restart Essbase Server.
If the setting applies to a specific application, stop the application (if it is running) and restart it.
If the setting applies only to a database, restart the application."
    Cheers

  • CFG file questions

when making adjustment to the CFG file
is there a order that should be followed
    Please advise

The only "order" I would recommend is to remember to stop and restart Essbase after making changes to the cfg file. I do also like to group similar settings so they are easier to find and to add comments about why I set something the way I did

  • Essbase Properties file

    Hi,
We have essbase properties file in Essbase server and APS server. I am going to modify the essbase properties file in APS server to fix the excel time out issues. If I modify the properties file in APS,  Whether I need to modify the properties file in Essbase server also ? Just I want to know the difference between these files.
    Thanks,
    Aravindh K

    Hi Celvin,
We have tried this method. But still we are getting time out issues. That's why we have planned to modify the properties file.
But I have a question. The Essbase.cfig file in the essbase server and essbase.properties in the APS has the same parameters as shown below. Whether both files are used to set the time out properties for smart view?
      Properties file in APS
      Essbase.cfg
      olap.server.netConnectRetry=3
      netConnectRetry=30
      olap.server.netDelay=200
      netDelay=2000
      olap.server.netSocketTimeOut=200
      netSocketTimeOut=20000
      netRetryCount=6000
    Thanks,
    Aravindh K

  • Can XML Publisher add a digital certificate (cert.pfx) via the xdo.cfg file or do I need to upgrade and use BI Publisher instead?

    Hi Guys
I need to add a digital certificate to a clients customer statements and invoices. XML Publisher 5.6.3 has been used originally to design the templates as RTF. I have the following questions please...
    1. Can an RTF template be used or do I need to convert it to a pdf template?
    2. Can XML publisher even be used or do I need to get the DBAs to install BI Publisher. XML Publisher doesn't even have the signature properties in the admin screens that BI Publisher has.
Below is a copy of the xdo.cfg file which currently does not add the pfx file...
