Hi everybody,Who knows about PORTUSAGEINTERVAL parameter.This parameter that can be setted in the Essbase.cfg file (ex:PORTUSAGEINTERVAL 10), seems no more documented (Iam using Essbase V6.5.1). Thanks in advance

is it PORTUSAGEINTERVAL or PORTUSAGELOGINTERVAL?? if it is the later one then here is the explanation (straightfrom documentation) PORTUSAGELOGINTERVAL n<table cellpadding="5" border="1"><tr><td>n</td><td>Represents the number of minutes between each check of thenumber of ports in use. The value of n can be any wholenumber from 1 - 60, with five as the recommended minimum anddefault value. Analytic Services ignores any portion of a non-wholenumber. For example, 2.5 is evaluated as 2 minutes. Hi All,
I want to change the essbase.cfg settings using MAXL or Esscmd. Is this possible? I could figure out changing Substitution Variables but am looking forward to change settings like CALCCACHE, etc...

There is no pre defined feature that allows you to do this, but if you want to override the values in .cfg file, depending on what those values are, you can just set them in your calc script, ie: CalcCache, etc. It is best to do this manually anyway, as once you finished, you will need to recycle the Essbase service for them to take effect.

Not finding ESSBASE.CFG

Hello Gurus!
I am very new to Essbase.
I had Hyperion Essbase 11.1.13 installed. When I added my first essbase server from the administration services console, it was added. Yet when I tried to open it i got the following error "Error: 1042017: Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay values in the ESSBASE.CFG file. Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again."
My problem is is that when I finally found the file essbase.cfg from F:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin, it consisted of the following:

and I found nothing about NetRetryCount or NetDelay. Is it possible that I downloaded the file the wrong way and that the essbase.cfg isn't complete?
Also, I read in a forum post that essbase.cfg is supposed tp be located in the directory $ARBORPATH but I haven't found such a folder when I searched for it.
BTW I don't think it is exactly a network problem as I pinged the server and it worked just fine.

Also, in the error msg it says:Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again.

1- How do I update client and server
2- how do I restart the client?

Unable to start Essbase app when activating JVM in Essbase.cfg

Hi,
I am using Essbase 6.5.3, one of my application that uses a CDF won't start when activating the JVM in Essbase.cfg. Please help. Thanks.

I have successfully tested CDF in Essbase v6.5.7.
Can you please answer below questions.
1. Did you place the CDF file at respective location ?(Normally, there is a JAVA directory and you can place in that directory or create a new directory and place it in that directory under JAVA)
2. Did you update udf.policy file? Updating this file is required if you are using a cdf function like JExport which will extract the data and store in a file or database.
3. Did you set the JVM to the correct location? When you start an application are you getting a message like "JVM Initialization Failed". If the message appears, then the possible cause would be with your JVM setting.
4. Did you register the function to that specific application? You can register it directly from Application manager or use a MAXL Script to register the function.
Once you have successfully done the above steps, restart the application and check the log file
If successfully registered, you will see a message as
"Function "@JExport" registered [OK] (Similar kind of message.
If you still get error message, please post the log file content of that application.

Essbase.cfg : Port configuration

Hello,does anyone have experience concerning the parameters:- AGENTTHREADS - SERVERTHREADS - AGTSVRCONNECTIONS I have problems with the Essbase Agent, which hangs under some circumstances. So I try increasing the THREAD parameters in the essbase.cfg, but I don't really now what limit my system has (W2K SP2, 2 Processors, 2Gbyte RAM)Thanks in advance

Max no. of users connections in essbase

Hi All,
How can i find what is the max. no. of users connections is allowed for essbase. If there is some setting in EAS console or we can define it through MAXL. We are using very old version (version 6- using ESSCMD commands). We have already provided access to about 475 users. 200 more users are waiting for access.

Herewith the relevant parameter you can define in your ESSBASE.CFG - it should answer your question:
MAXLOGINS
Sets a limit on the number of user sessions that can be connected to the Essbase Server at any one time.
Syntax
MAXLOGINS n
n Any integer from 1000 to 1048575 is valid. The default value is 10000.
Description
This setting limits the maximum number of user sessions allowed to connect to the Essbase Server at any one time. This number includes multiple instances of the same user.
You may wish to adjust the value of MAXLOGINS to match computer resources, or to more closely manage concurrent ports and user sessions. A concurrent port is used for each unique combination of client machine, Essbase Server and login name. For example, the same user > with five open Excel worksheets connected to the same Essbase Server use one port, but five sessions.
Notes
Increasing the value of MAXLOGINS increases memory use approximately 6 bytes per user session.
If the setting is less than the minimum value, 1000, the value is assumed to be 1000.
Example
MAXLOGINS 50000
increases the maximum number of simultaneous logins possible, from the default of 10000 to 50000. > Kind regards

Essbase Error in Excel's Add-In

When i drill-down in a Cube's Dimension in a vast query (using the Essbase's add-in for Excel), i get the Essbase Error: Maximum number of rows [8192] exceeded [8208]. Although i increased the No of rows in parameter SSPROCROWLIMIT in essbase.cfg, the problem remains.Any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

I'm guessing that you're using an old version of Excel, since it thinks you have only 8192 rows as the max number of rows available. Since Excel 97, there has been 65,536 rows to a sheet.The problem here is you've done a query that is returning more rows than your version of Excel can handle. Change the cfg file will not fix this. Either choose a query that would return fewer rows or upgrade your Excel. One other possiblity could be that you're running the Lotus add-in instead of the Excel add-in.

MAXFORMULACACHESIZE erorr in Essbase 11.1.2

Hi experts,
I am currently working on Essbase ASO Application.
When I am trying to prepare the aggregations on ASO app, I keep getting an error Not enough memory for formula execution.
Set MAXFORMULACACHESIZE configuration parameter to [2543]KB and try Again
and it is making my EAS freeze.
But i didn't find any MAXFORMULACACHESIZE in my essbase.cfg file
Note: I am using Essbase 11.1.2.2v.
Any help would highly be appreciated.

Maybe i didn´t explain in detail. We try to copy application from three different cubes. i.e:
create or replace application "App1" as "Bpp1" comment 'Copia de application';
create or replace application "App2" as "Bpp2" comment 'Copia de application';
create or replace application "App3" as "Bpp3" comment 'Copia de application';
so, the applications and the files in the OS are differents, and locks should not be the cause of this behaviour.

Essbase Service suddenly stops during report automation

Has anyone experienced this before? The Essbase service suddenly stops while running batches.
I get the following message in the Event viewer everytime this happens:
The Hyperion S9 BI+ Analytic Services 9.3.0 - essbase service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s).
Is this due to constant batches with large reports taxing essbase?
Is there an Essbase.cfg modification that I can make to help avoid this?

Essbase Audit

Hello,
I was able to set up the Essbase.cfg file with “SSAUDIT APPLICATION_NAME DBNAME D:\Oracle\Middleware\logs” but have a couple of questions and I am wondering if anyone can assist resolve.
1) The output files keep on showing up in D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem3\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\app\APPLICATION_NAME\DB_NAME instead of what is set in the SSAUDIT parameter. What am I doing wrong?
2) For my purposes, I am trying to generate an audit report that will show who did what/when and what were the values changed. Is there a way to combine the information in the atx and alg files to generate an automated report?

SSAUDIT is not enabled by default you will need to add it to essbase configuration file, more details here
I doubt you will see much performance difference, like most things try it and see.

Remember, order of the user repositories does matter when you have same username in both of them.
You need to set MSAD repository in the first order here, I understand.
than you need to copy provisions from native directory to MSAD.
