Essbase.cfg settings

Hi,
We have a 64bit Windows Essbase environment with 8GB Ram. What would you recommend for the below settings. Values are what we currently have that was on a 32bit 4GB Ram server.
CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH 5500
CALCLOCKBLOCKDEFAULT 3500
CALCLOCKBLOCKLOW 100
CalcCacheHigh 199229440
CalcCacheDefault 104857600
CalcCacheLow 52428800

  • Update Essbase Cfg setting using MAXL or ESSCMD

    Hi All,
I want to change the essbase.cfg settings using MAXL or Esscmd. Is this possible? I could figure out changing Substitution Variables but am looking forward to change settings like CALCCACHE, etc...
If yes, please let me know any insights on the same.
    Thanks,
    AJ.

There is no pre defined feature that allows you to do this, but if you want to override the values in .cfg file, depending on what those values are, you can just set them in your calc script, ie: CalcCache, etc. It is best to do this manually anyway, as once you finished, you will need to recycle the Essbase service for them to take effect.

  • Not finding ESSBASE.CFG

    Hello Gurus!
I am very new to Essbase.
I had Hyperion Essbase 11.1.13 installed. When I added my first essbase server from the administration services console, it was added. Yet when I tried to open it i got the following error "Error: 1042017: Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay values in the ESSBASE.CFG file. Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again."
My problem is is that when I finally found the file essbase.cfg from F:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin, it consisted of the following:
; The following entry specifies the full path to JVM.DLL
    JvmModuleLocation F:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\client\jvm.dll
BPM_Oracle_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle Wire Protocol"
    BPM_DB2_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT DB2 Wire Protocol"
BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT SQL Server Wire Protocol"
    BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "SQL Server"
    ;BPM_Netezza_DriverDescriptor "NetezzaSQL"
    BPM_Teradata_DriverDescriptor "Teradata"
    BPM_ORACLEBI_DriverDescriptor "Oracle BI Server"
    AuthenticationModule CSS
    AGENTPORT 1423
    SERVERPORTBEGIN 32768
    SERVERPORTEND 33768
    AGENTDESC hypservice_1
and I found nothing about NetRetryCount or NetDelay. Is it possible that I downloaded the file the wrong way and that the essbase.cfg isn't complete?
Also, I read in a forum post that essbase.cfg is supposed tp be located in the directory $ARBORPATH but I haven't found such a folder when I searched for it.
BTW I don't think it is exactly a network problem as I pinged the server and it worked just fine.
Any help is appreaciated. Thanks in advance :)

    Thanks for response John :)
the essbase.cfg now looks like this:
; The following entry specifies the full path to JVM.DLL
    JvmModuleLocation F:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\client\jvm.dll
BPM_Oracle_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle Wire Protocol"
    BPM_DB2_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT DB2 Wire Protocol"
BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT SQL Server Wire Protocol"
    BPM_SQLServer_DriverDescriptor "SQL Server"
    ;BPM_Netezza_DriverDescriptor "NetezzaSQL"
    BPM_Teradata_DriverDescriptor "Teradata"
    BPM_ORACLEBI_DriverDescriptor "Oracle BI Server"
    AuthenticationModule CSS
    AGENTPORT 1423
    SERVERPORTBEGIN 32768
    SERVERPORTEND 33768
    AGENTDESC hypservice_1
    NETDELAY 1000
    NETRETRYCOUNT 2000
is it missing something?like a semicolumn or sth?
Also, in the error msg it says:Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again.
    my questions are:
1- How do I update client and server
2- how do I restart the client?
Is there any reading material to help me with this?

  • Unable to start Essbase app when activating JVM in Essbase.cfg

    Hi,
I am using Essbase 6.5.3, one of my application that uses a CDF won't start when activating the JVM in Essbase.cfg. Please help. Thanks.

I have successfully tested CDF in Essbase v6.5.7.
Can you please answer below questions.
    1. Did you place the CDF file at respective location ?(Normally, there is a JAVA directory and you can place in that directory or create a new directory and place it in that directory under JAVA)
    2. Did you update udf.policy file? Updating this file is required if you are using a cdf function like JExport which will extract the data and store in a file or database.
    3. Did you set the JVM to the correct location? When you start an application are you getting a message like "JVM Initialization Failed". If the message appears, then the possible cause would be with your JVM setting.
    4. Did you register the function to that specific application? You can register it directly from Application manager or use a MAXL Script to register the function.
Once you have successfully done the above steps, restart the application and check the log file
If successfully registered, you will see a message as
"Function "@JExport" registered [OK] (Similar kind of message.
If you still get error message, please post the log file content of that application.

I am a novice and would like to know how to set the parameters in Cfg file. When I have opened the file I am seeing only one entry there in that filei.e about JVMModulelocation. I wonder why all those default settings are not shown there? Can someone guide me on this?Jaya

JVMModulelocation .This Itself sets all default options.if you want means you can add some commands to change default settings and you can see it through app manager.Let me know if you have any Questions ?ThanksSreenivas

  • Essbase Database Settings - Restore

Was wondering. When you restore a database from backup, is there a file that holds all the db settings like Data Cache, Index Cache etc.... Or do you always have to manually set them again?

I thought this information was held in the essbase.sec file, so depending on how you are restoring the values may still be stored.
    Cheers

  • CalcLockBlock setting.....

    Hi All,
I have written a business rule in EAS console. The rule was validated successfully but when i tried to Launch,it shows error msg as below..
Detail:Cannot calculate. Analytic Server Error(1012704): Dynamic Calc processor cannot lock more than [4] ESM blocks during the calculation, please increase CalcLockBlock setting and then retry(a small data cache setting could also cause this problem, please check the data cache size setting).
I read through the Essbase Technical reference guide to increase CalcLockBlock setting. It is written that
If the essbase.cfg file contains the following settings:
    CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH 500
    CALCLOCKBLOCKDEFAULT 200
    CALCLOCKBLOCKLOW 50
then you can use the following SET LOCKBLOCK setting commands in a calculation script:
    SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH;
Then I added the above 3 setting into my essbase.cfg file and set LOCKBLOCK HIGH.Still unable to launch the business rule.
can someone plz suggest me how to set the CalcLockBlock size?
    Regards,

    Hi,
The exact value is entirely relevant to the type of calculation you are trying to run. However, I suggest you to keep increasing these gradually (by 100 each time) until you can make it work. In most cases though, 500 should work fine. Have you recycled essbase service? Essbase.cfg settings are effective only after restart.
    Cheers,
    Alp

  • Capex performance

    Hi,
It takes time to run add asset, calculation depreciation and remove asset business rules in Capex. Usually, it throws an error in Excel when trying to run those business rules. I want to improve the performance but don't know how. Please help.

    Hi,
It would almost be impossible for the users here to answer your question with so little information. It would help if you could provide more info such as:
    - Business Rule code
    - Has the performance always like this or it got worse recently?
    - Your Hyperion version?
    - Your Essbase server specs
    - Your Essbase.cfg settings
    - Excel error message?
Couple of things you can do:
    - Compare your business rules with Hyperion Planning Capex Module: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hp_11113_capex_admin.pdf
    - Read the essbase admin guide for optimizing calcs: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag/dcaoptcs.htm and improving Essbase Performance: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag/daprcset.htm
Hope this helps. I am sure I've missed things, but hopefully other users will also provide some suggestions & tips.
    Cheers,
    Mehmet

  • Maximum no of members in Essbase Dimension can support

    Dear All,
    I am using Essbase 11.1.2.2 (64-bit)
Number of dimensions used in my BSO Essbase cube is 9 (4-dense and 5 sparse).
I am having a Customer dimension (sparse) upto 7 levels.
The number of members in customer dimension is 98000.
After loading data in essbase BSO cube, while performing Ad hoc Analysis it throws the following error in Smartview,
"Request timed out contact your administrator to increase netretrycount and netretryinterval"
After making changes to below variables in registry and essbase.cfg files
    NETDELAY 500
    NETRETRYCOUNT 400
    Registry settings
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]\
    ReceiveTimeout=480000
    KeepAliveTimeout=180000
    ServerInfoTimeout=180000
    and also with
    ReceiveTimeout=900000
    KeepAliveTimeout=300000
    ServerInfoTimeout=300000
I am getting the following error
"Concurrent requests on the same session are not allowed. Wait till the previous request completes processing"
After i reduced the no of members considerably in Customer dimension, the issue got resolved.
My question is "Do we have any limitations in maximum no of members in a single dimension"
What is the maximum no of members a Essbase dimension can support ?
    Regards,
    Tharik

To answer your specific question, the limits are listed here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26232_01/doc.11122/esb_dbag/limits.html. According to that, BSO will handle 1,000,000 members.
My question would be what exactly you are doing when the error occurs. Does it happen when you attempt a drill to level zero for example? Or as soon as you retrieve an ad hoc sheet?

  • Improving retrieval performance of essbase server in unix environment

    HI,
Our production environment is unix system. can any one suggest settings which impact the retrieval performance and how to do these settings in unix environment.

    Naveen,
For retrieval perfomance, Increase the retreival buffer size.
Default is 10 KB for 32 bit platforms and 20 KB for 64 bit.
    make it 100 KB.
    2. if the data block size is large ,and you are retriving cells across several blocks
set VLBREPORT true in the essbase.cfg configuration file
NOTE: this will increase the retrival process but , its applicable to the outlines which does not include dynamic calcs.
    3. If the format of your reoport is of not much importance. group dense dimension in colums and groping sparse in rows ,this would be faster.
    4. An applicaion/database does has a limt on its memory consumption.
So, RAM is the key for the speed.
Best part is that ,as you have UNIX operating system ,addressabe memory in your case is 3.9GB(which is very good) unlike 2 GB in case of windows. This is per application.
