Essbase Configuration (Linux)

Hi All,
I have a bunch of questions that I have put together which does not allow me to move forward. Please take some time and respond with available knowledge.
Environment:
Essbase on Linux
Foundation services on Windows
Version 11.1.1.3
Questions:
1. Having installed foundation services on windows, when we run the config utiliy everything passes except the "Registering with Shared servies part". The error says "Unable to connect to Shared services: Start Shared services". We do not see any services running specific for shared services.
2. On the Essbase server, we run the config utility and face the following issues.
a. Unable to connect to shared services. Do we have to mention the host name where shared services are installed or just the DB info is good.
b. Should we mention the same port that shared services is configured on while configuring essbase or can we specify a different port in here. This is cos we have 4 instances of essbase installed.
Please try to help me out of this situation.

1. HSS,OHS,Weblogic server,workspace - On a Windows 2008 server
2. Essbase server,EIS server,EAS server,EIS server - on a Linux server
3. Oracle database on another linux server.
my questions is, can we have the installation and configuration done considering the OS (wid and Linux), as described in points 1&2 above.
I guess I read somewhere, that all the web applications can be deployed to either all windows or to all Linux OS servers? - Is it correct?

Issue in 11.1.2 Essbase configuration on Linux 5.5 64Bit - Config hangs

Hi Experts,
I am trying to do a fresh install and configure of EPM 11.1.2 in a distributed environment:
1. Oracle database version 11.20as repository on Linux server 1(linux 5.5, 64 bit) installed and working fine.
2. I installed and configured HSS on a Windows 2008 server SP1 64 bit - configured following: common settings, database,OCM,deploy to Application Server - Success. and I am able to open the HSS front end and check users,groups etc.
Now, I installed Essbase server,EAS server,ES server,EIS server on Linux server 2(5.5,64 bit).
The Problem is: When I am configuring Linux server 2(All the above mentioned Essbase components) -
Configurator asks for "Previously configured SS database"- I provide the details
next -> it asks for ES,EAS database schema -> I provide the details
next -> asks for weblogic domain information -> 2 options there -> I choose- > Deploy to an existing domain -> All the required info was already there(Windows server above)
BUT, when I click "next" -> the screen just Hangs and does not go anywhere. I waited for 1 hr and nothing happened.
So, I cancelled it and started the config again, but again the same issue.
the message on the linux server console are:
"HBR Configuration has not been initialized. Make sure you have logged in sucessfully and there are no exceptions in the HBR log file.
ConfigurationManager not available"
and No logs are generated under /oracle/Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/diagnostics/logs/config
any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!

Installing Hyperion Essbase on linux 64 bit

Hi John,
Totally I'm having four machines (Machine A,Machine B,Machine C,Machine D). With the help of these four machines I'm going to install Hyperion Essbase and Planning 11.1.2.1.0.
Machine A (Linux-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure the Hyperion Essbase Server,EAS Console.
Machine B (Linux-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure the Oracle Database.
Machine C (Windows-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure Hyperion Planning.
Machine D (Windows-32 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure Hyperion Essbase Client.
In my 3 machines i have 64-bit, and 1 has 32 bit, I do not know this would be working, if this is correct kindly tell me how to do.

Error installing Essbase in Linux machine

Hi,
I am getting the following error while installing Essbase in Linux server.
WARNING: error intantiating 'oracle.core.ojdl.logging.LoggingConfiguration' referenced by java.util.logging.config.class, class not found
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.core.ojdl.Logging.LoggingConfiguration not found
The steps followed for the installation are as follows:
1. Copied all the required softwares in Linux server in the "EPM_Linux" directory.
2. I typed the following command in Linux Window
[home/epm_linux]>./installTool.sh
After typing the above command, I got the above error message.
Java version in Linux server is : 1.4.2
Linux version is : Red Hat 4.1.2-48
Did anyone face this issue? Please help in the resolution.

2. How to set Java Environtment variable .

Essbase Configuration File

hi,
I have one my user who gets following Error while submitting the data via SmartView:
""The request timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetryCount and netRetryInterval""
I want to know what exactly does netRetryCount & netRetryInterval do?
Moreover i checked my essbase configuration file the current setting for the two are as follows:
NetDelay: 5000
NetRetryCount: 8000
Can we increase on these setting any more? If yes what would be the impact on system performance by increaing the same.

If oyu bump them up, I don't think it will hurt much, you will just wait longer before getting the error. between the two with your configuration, I would increase Netretrycount and not the delay. Interestingly, these are about the only two settings that can be used in a client config file. The others all have to be on the server(these can be done on the server as well). I'm not sure if the client settings would affect smartview or just the classic addin.
NETDELAY
Specifies the network request delay time.
Syntax
NETDELAY nWhere n is an integer value of 100 or above, expressed in milliseconds. The default value is 200 milliseconds.
Description
This setting defines the network request delay time in milliseconds. This is the amount of time an unsuccessful operation waits before Essbase retries the operation.
NETRETRYCOUNT
Specifies the number of attempts Essbase is allowed to make a network connection before failing and reporting an error.
Syntax
NETRETRYCOUNT nWhere n is an integer value. The default value is 600 retries. The minimum value is 300.

Essbase configuration in Shared Services

We have a distributed Hyperion Planning Architecture.
The Shared Serives is hosted on Windows Platform. While Essbase is hosted on Linux.
I am trying to configure Essbase in the shared services but repeatedly the process in failing.
I am really in sight of some help to overcome the sitution.

While executing the ./configtool.sh -forceREgistry -consol from Hyperion_HOME/common/config/9.5.0.0 - I am encountering the error -
"ERROR:~/.hyperion.<hostname. does not exist or is not found "
Essbase is installed on Linux and Shared Services is installed on Windows Server.
Can someone suggest a way to register Essbase into shared services.....

11.1.1.3 Essbase Configuration Problem

I am trying to Upgrade Essbase from 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3. I've successfully upgraded Shared Services (on a different server) and am getting the error "Shared Services database content not found in the specified database" in the Configuration Manager on my Essbase server.
I've search earlier threads and have tried to rename vpd.properties, which did not help.
I am pointing to my SQL Server HSS database and can not get past this error.

Problems starting Essbase on Linux

Hello; I installed Essbase 7.1.2 on Linux redhat8, when try to start the essbase server send a message that the libessnetu.so.1 file is not shared; how can I start Essbase? If somebody can help me, please? I cannot start it. Thanks in advance.

Pre-configured Linux with Oracle DB and Applications

Does anyone know if there is a pre-configured oracle-linux stack out there that would have all the components already configured. I have seen this for other products such as sugarCRM. Its really nice to have this, since it takes the complexity and installation time out of the equation, especially if you are just trying to test or demo the software. I imagine a PeopleSoft Oracle Linux Stack, as well as one for each of the Oracle Application and Software Suites. If not, i guess i will go the more fun route of downloading and installing each package individually.

Could you please tell me How to configure the linux Kernel to
accommodate the SGA ?
I run the ipcs command and didnt list nothing. I already look the
linux library to find out how to set the parameters listed on
page 4 on chapter 2 "setting the enviroment" on the linux
Installation guide for Oracle8 but I couldnt find nothing.
Could you please help me ?

Essbase Configuration Error

Hi All,
M newbie to Essbase...., after installation of the Hyperion v 11.1.2 while i tried to configure shared services with Oracle database it gives an error msg as below
+" The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"+
but when I changed the server name from Computer name to Localhost it works fine.
I have checked my computer name and it is same as the name I had given while configuring Shared services.

Reading thru Oracle install doc, says to do an "ipcs" to see
stats about MAXMEM etc. My stats show I need changes, Oracle
doc gives no hints about "what to do". Maybe I need to
"somehow" reconfigure Linux Kernel (running latest Red Hat via
Linux Unleashed book), ideas, hints? Thanks! :)

Someone might have to correct me here, but I think the kernel
configuration is done inside the lilo.conf file by adding a
following line in:
append="params go here separated by a comma"
then you run lilo, and if lilo does not complain, simply reboot
your Linux. I would also suggest to have a boot disk handy (just
in case)

How can i deploy EAS to application server (weblogic) which is on another server...

I am on Essbase 6.5.4, the DDBB has a several "complex" dynamic calcs across dense and sparse dimension, also i have stored members that it?s calculated in a calc script. Could anybody say me which parameters a more critical for this calcs.Thank you very much.
