Switching Essbase Connections with HypUIConnect

I have an existing report built up which connects to the Production instance of Sample.Basic.
I have a macro that prompts the user to log in, then retrieves all the grids on a sheet:
     lngRet = HypUIConnect("Report", Empty, Empty, "Sample Basic PROD")
     lngRet = HypRetrieve("Report")
     lngRet = HypDisconnect("Report", True)
Now, I want to run this against DEV. So I change the code (in reality, I would use a string variable to hold the private connection name so I can change it in one place) like this:
     lngRet = HypUIConnect("Report", Empty, Empty, "Sample Basic DEV")
     lngRet = HypRetrieve("Report")
     lngRet = HypDisconnect("Report", True)
All works well, I except that I get the "You have applied a new connection to a grid that was created using a different connection” warning.
My problem is that I would like to suppress this message - it appears once per grid, which can be a little annoying if there are multiple grids on the same worksheet.
Using HypConnect (and hard-coding the username and password) in place of HypUIConnect does not produce the message, but for obvious reasons I don't want to hard-code a password. Nor do I really like having the user enter their credentials into a custom dialog, which I could then pass to HypConnect, although it is an option.

Do you have different versions of essbase for DEV and PROD?

Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server in Essbase studio

I am using Essbase Studio Release 11.1.2.1.00 for developing XOLAP cubes and deploying them on to Essbase server .
I am getting the below Error while deploying the cube onto Essbase server.
error : Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Failed to build Essbase cube dimension: (TimeHierarchy) .
Caused by: Cannot get async process state. Essbase Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server.
From Essbase Studio -> Datasources tab, I could able to connect to SQL Database server..Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

There was a problem with my Essbase Server..so now i m pointing to other server.
now I am getting the below Error:
Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Cannot end incremental build. Essbase Error(1025008): Join Specification near [[TIMEID]] is invalid. Please verify the Xolap Schema file.
Please let me know how can I validate my cube and what changes might require in my Cube definitions?

Essbase Error(1021001) Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database...?

Hi there!
I am very new in Essbase and I am receiving the error message quoted below while trying to load data in a Cube. Weird thing is that we have checked all connections already and they are working correctly, however this process is still failing.
If someone can give us an idea to troubleshoot it, that would be really appreciated.

Then we concentrated in the following error message: *ODBC Layer Error: [S1000] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]ORA-04063: view "REP_ESSBASE.VW_GL_BALANCES" has errors]*
So, we checked the database and noticed the schema and their views were damaged and -due to this- they lost all their properties (like data types, for example). So, we had to recompile all of them in order to avoid any loss of data. This was done in TOAD, as per the following info: https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL66821
Finally, once all the views on this schema were rebuilt and fixed, we were able to deploy the Cube again.

Essbase Studio Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Data

I have trying to deploy a cube with Essbase Studio but I get the error: "*Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server*"
My environment is Linux 5, Oracle 11g and EPM 11.1.1.2. Oracle database and Essbase was installed with diferent users. In the .bash_profile of hypadmin user (that install Essbase) I have set the following variables

In my pc (windows xp) I can open Essbase Studio console, do the connection to Oracle database, get tables and create minischema, mesures and hierarchies (I can see the preview of hierarchies). Also I can create cubes with EAS and can connect with MAXSHELL to essbase.
When I try to deploy the cube from Essbaes Studio y get the error "Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server".

Essbase Studio - Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server

Hi all,
I am new to Hyperion and am having trouble deploying what seems a simple cube in Essbase Studio.
My environment is Windows 2003, EPM 11.1.1.2, SQL Server 2000.
I have the following two issues which may be related.
1. The EPM System Diagnostic tool says that Hyperion Foundation cannot connect to the SQL database.
Error:
Failed: Connection to database
Error: java.net.UnknownHostException: <server name: <server name>
Recommended Action:
Every other EPM application is able to connect to the database. I have tried re-configuring Foundation Services and checking the config files and nothing looks wrong. I would appreciate advice on how to fix this.
2 In Essbase Studio, I was able to connect to the database where the source data is, build the minischema and create dimensions and measures. But when I run the cube deployment wizard I get the error:

I have checked the DSN as well as the connections set up within Studio, and they are all able to connect to the database. I am using the admin user for the Essbase server and have created a different user for the databases where the data resides and the shared services database. I tried using the same user all the way through and this didn’t help.
Can you please advise what else I can check or change to resolve this issue.
Also, can you work in EAS with cubes that are created in Studio? I tried looking at it and I got an error that the rule file couldn’t be accessed because it was created in Studio.
After the above failures, I tried creating a cube in EIS, with mixed success. I have been able to load the members and data without errors. But when I try to view the data in the cube, I am seeing field names for the measures instead of the data itself.
...Definitely more questions than answers at this stage of my learning.

I don't know if you found an answer to you question after so many months but I was hoping I could be helpful.
The issue you are experience happens often when the dimension that you are getting an error on, in this case TIME, is built from a snowflake lineage and there is a bad foreign key reference. This dimension is most like high-up in your outline build process for Essbase Studio and this prevents the build from happening usually early on.
Check your logs also. They are in Hyperion > Products > logs > essbase > essbasestudio.
You can also make your logs more verbose by setting a configuration variable in the essbase studio server.properties file but that should only be used for debugging as it really saps performance.
And, yes, you can of course edit an Essbase Studio deployed cube in EAS. However, any changes you make to the cube in EAS are subject to being wiped-out upon the next Essbase Studio deployment of that Applicaion/Database combo.
If you want to provide more detail, screenshots, etc. I would be glad to help where I can.

Unable to connect to essbase server with Smart View

Hi,
I'm having trobules connecting Smart View in order to make some adhoc analysis, however I could perfectly establish connection with Planning and navigate through web forms in excel.
The address I'm using to connect to Essbase is: http://<server>:19000/aps/SmartView and the planning url is http://<server>:19000/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
I've been already using those urls in other server with version 11.1.2 but now that I'm trying to connect to a server with v11.1.1.3 I just can't. Whenever I connect to Planning in order to see the forms a prompt appears with the message saying that "I'm connecting to a server with an older version" but I could perfectly work with the forms. When I connect to essbase, I can see the Applications but I just can't make any adhoc analysis.
Could anyone have any idea of what could be happening?

Thanks for your response, I've already checked that port and keep getting the same message "Common Provider null datasource error". I can see the applications but can't get any further than that, no analysis adhoc, no smart slice, only disconnect :(

I have tested that the ODBC connection can connect to the database. The sql query has been dumbed down to select '1' from dual. I have not included the word "select" in the query.
Anyone seen this before? We are in the process of uninstalling the Oracle client completely and re-installing it to see if this solves the issue. We only installed the 64 bit version of the Oracle client. I am running on Windows Enterprise 2008 R2 - 64 bit. EAS, Essbase, EIS are all 64 bit installs. I believe Studio is the only one that is 32bit. However we are not currently using this product.

Hi Mike,
With Oracle Support's help, we got 3 of the 5 servers working now. We were using the Datadirect drivers but were configuring them wrong! You have to use the Standard Connection portion in the setup, specifying the Host, Port Number (1521) and the SID. We were using the TNSNames Connection which worked in the past, but apparently does not now.
So I am down to 2 servers not working. They are both Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit, running Oracle EPM Essbase 11.1.2.1. When I Open SQL in EAS it prompts for database (Essbase Server, App, DB) and when I hit ok it pops up with "Network error: Cannot Locate Connect Information For []". We did not do any of the suggestions in the document you linked to get the other 3 servers working. When you hit ok on that error, you then get another error stating, "There are no Data Sources defined. 'SQL data sources' option will be disabled". We do have datasources defined on the server.
Any ideas?

ODI and Essbase: Connection, Reverse Engineering, loading

Hi, please heeeeeeeelp me to understand how can I connect to Essbase, Reverse Engineer, and load data from a file!!!!!
I work with ODI and Essbase for the first time. I've read ODI documentationbut it did't help.
I have ODI 10.1.3.4.0
I have Hyperion and Essbase
ODI server, my ODI client and Essbase are located in different servers.
I have a work repository.
In the "Topology manager" in "Physical Architecture" under the "Essbase Hyperion" I created "Data Server" and in the definition tab I filled "Name", "Server" (with port), "User", "Password".
In the JDBC tab I did nothing.
In the physical schema in the definition tab I filled: "Application (Catalog)", "Database (Schema)", "Application (Work catalog)" (the same as first), "Database (Work schema)" (the same as second).
In the "Context" tab I insert a new line and chose the "Context" tha I had created before and type a new logical schema("").
(When I was creating the context I just filled Context "Name" and "Code" (automatically))
Then I want to reverse engineer data.
I opened ODI designer, created a new model: Definition tab: "Technology" = Hyperion Essbase, "Logical schema" = My_Hyperion_logic_schema
Reverse tab: "Context" = My_Hyperion_context
When I try to reverse engineer data in the Selective Reverse tab I get following error:

It is not new installation and worked well before.But recently can't login and retirive error emsg "1042006 - Network error [111"

Used the essmsh login. it retrived below error message

ERROR - 1042006 - Network error [111]: Unable to connect to [localhost:1423]. The client timed out waiting to connect to Essbase Agent using TCP/IP. Check your network connections. Also make sure that server and port values are correct.

tried to restart essbase agent with opmnctl. it also occured error to start this component.
checked ohs_component and got below error messages.

1. Open the Windows Registry.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters.
3. Add new DWORD Value named "TcpTimedWaitDelay"
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 30.
4. Add new DWORD Value named MaxUserPort
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 65534
5. A reboot of the server is necessary.

Using Planning vs Essbase connection in financial reports

What are the pros/cons of using an essbase connection for financial reporting vs using a planning connection? we are on 9.2.1. using the Financial reporting studio client. These are basic financial reports-cost center expense reports, income statement, revenue analysis, etc.
I notice that when I use a planning connection, I cannot select any attribute dimensions in my financial report.
Also, are there any differences in the security used with a planning connection vs an essbase connection

you can select any attribute (see WorkSpace->File->Properties->Financial Reporting...)

there are not big differences.
We use planning for most of our reports. If report is very big (many rows or lines) we use financial report.

Disconnect all active Essbase connections using VBA code in Excel

I am currently using the below code to disconnect the active essbase connection. It works fine but it shows me a windows with the list of active essbase connections and I have to select each essbase connection and click disconnect. I want a vba code which will disconnect / kill all active connections of Essbase at one go. for e.g. I have 10 worksheets connected to different databases in Essbase. I want a code which will disconnect all 10 sheets at one go. Please expedite. Thanks for your help in advance.

Planning Connection with FR

Hi All,
I am having an issue with some reports that I built. I need the reports to use a planning connection since they have some text fields. We are using EPMA version 11.1.1.3 and Planning. The report has the entity dimension in the POV. Yesterday, I added a new entity and deployed the application. The new entity shows up in Planning on the web and it shows up in essbase.
Next, I try and run the report and I preview my POV. I can select the new entity from the list, however, when I click ok and run the report I get the following error:
5200: Error executing query: Unrecognized member for dimension. Dimension - (Entity) Member - (New Entity)com.hyperion.planning.HspRuntimeException
If I change the report to use an essbase connection it runs just fine, but again, I need the test details so it has to be a planning connection. Why is FR not recognizing the new member and why can I select it from the member select but not run the report. I'm really confused here. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks,

Hi,
It sounds like POV cache problem. If this is the case you should delete your POV cache by running the delete pov command. (It's under BIPlus\bin directory in your installation folder, or search for deletepov if it's not there). It will ask you a few parameters, servername, username-password etc. Name of the file is little bit scarry but no worries, it is safe.

EIS connection with Shared services failed.

I m using EIS for data load ,and getting error while test connection with Shared service. while its connectiong with essbase with default user "admin"
Error :
