Essbase install

I installed and configureg everything except Essbase on a separate server. Next, I installed Essbase on a Linux server. The charater set is correct, I had the DBA change it before installing anything.
I get this error,
Failed to navigate from RegistryWizardState: Error while initializing registry.
Suggestions please?
Thanks,
P

From the error it seems that even though you are able to ping the server, you are not able to connect to the host using the configurator.
Can you try to mention the IP address and the host name of the foundation machine in the hosts file and see if that makes any difference?
<IP address> <Servername>
Are you trying this on windows on linux? If you have a windows firewall or Antivirus which is ON you can try to switch it off and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks,

  • Essbase install for 11.1.2.0 does not create opmn.xml

We are currently doing a test install of EPM 11.1.2.0 and are having a specific problem. Foundation services are all installed and running fine but the Essbase install seems to not create the necessary opmn files so we can't start it. No opmn.xml is created in
    user_projects/epmsystem1/config/OPMN/opmn
in fact nothing at all is created in there and so opmnctl complains that it can't find opmn.xml.
OPMN is running and controls OHS without problems. We also noticed that the Essbase configuration creates an empty opmnctl.bat script in the scripts directory. This is not a permissions issue, we are running the installer as admin. We have tried configuring Essbase in a cluster and not in a cluster with the same problem.

Yes, it is 2008 R2 and I know it's not officially supported yet. We're just running it to get some information for when we install if for real with 11.1.2.1 comes out ... I think it might be related to the fact that Essbase can't contact the Foundation services db or something like this - the installer logs seem to suggest that it aborts before getting to the opmn creation phase. I need to check the logs in more detail. Here is what is in the leasemanager_essbase_<hostname>.log which is written when running the configuration of Essbase:
    [2011-02-14T12:22:14.101-11:22] ESSBASE / Info (1320009)
Attempt to connect to database failed with error [[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]TNS-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor].
    [2011-02-14T12:22:14.554-11:22] ESSBASE / Error (1320010)
Database operation failed with error [[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver]String data code page conversion failed. Error in parameter 1.].
It seems that Essbase tries to get an OPMN lease by writing to the Shared Services repository using the ODBC driver and this fails with the above errors. It then shuts down and doesn't get as far as writing the opmn.xml file.

  • New Essbase install - fail at "Register with Shared services

    Hi all,
I'm configuring up a new LINUX ( Redhat ) server to run Essbase 11.1 and the installation fails at the point where, in the configtool (using this in GUI mode not command line ) it's registering the components with Shared Services. In the configtool logs file I see:
(Jul 20, 2010, 02:47:19 PM), com.hyperion.cis.config.CmsRegistrationUtil, ERROR, Failed to authenticate user = admin
    (Jul 20, 2010, 02:47:19 PM), com.hyperion.cis.config.wizard.RunAllTasksWizardAction, ERROR, Error:
    Error Code: -1
com.hyperion.css.common.configuration.CSSConfigurationException: 20:3008:Failed to connect to native directory. Error Code: 9
On a previous install, I had exactly the same problem, and this was resolved by increased the number of processes on the Oracle XE instance that the shared services was using. However we already tried that and its not the problem. All processes seem to start up OK and if I browse to http://server:28080/interop it gives me the EPM web page, but if I select "Launch Appliction" it opens another window with a error "An error was encountered while performing this operation".
I've tried reinstalling, dropping the HSS schema, stop starting all services and mixtures of all but to no avail.
    Can anyone advise.
    Thanks

Just for info, the we don't have any form of "admin" user that is used anywhere so we're not sure where this is coming from.

  • Essbase install option is greyed out on solaris

    Hi,
I'm installing 64 bit EPM 11.1.2.2 on solaris 10 Update 10 sparc 64 bit server.
I 've downloaded required files from edelivery and upzipped all files on solaris machine. But somehow the Essbase option in the EPM installer is greyed out. Infact all options are greyed out apart from couple of options under foundation. All preinstall checks done by installer wer ok.
    Any pointers will be appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance!!

    Hi
    Thanks for the replies.
I'm doing a a new install on a new solaris machine. Only oracle client was installed earlier on this machine with the same user (say userA). I'm using the same userA to install Essbase.
John- I've tried clicking on the installer window/ checking/unchecking all products, but nothing happens. I do not see any missing unix packages. Is there a list of required unix packages mentioned in the install n config guide ? what do i need to look for?
Vasavya - where does this oracle.instance file resides? In my case UserA installed the oracle client and the same user is trying to install Essbase for the first time.
However during oracle client installation - the installer prompted me to run a script using root user specifically.
Could this be related to the fact that my oracle client is installed under /m01/app/products/11.2.0/client_1 and I'm trying to install EPM under /m01/app/products/oracle/Middleware ?
Could this be the reason ?
Also, I'm downloading/ unzipping all files again just to be sure that nothing is corrupted.
    Any pointers will be helpful
    Thanks again

  • Essbase install on one user profile and not able to use it on another

I installed Essbase v11 on multiple machines running Windows XP on an Admin acount and went to use the application on another user's login on the same machine.
When I do so, I had to redirect the addin to the two bin files and Essbase shows up fine. I can access the options but when I go to connect to a server, nothing happens.
It acts like I clicked off of the menu and nothing pops up at all. I fixed this by uninstalling the application on the original logged in Admin account, deleting the Hyperion folder and reinstalled the application under the user's account.
My question is, am I supposed to be able to use v11 on multiple accounts like I was v7?
EDIT - I did install the program on the C: drive and not under the Admin account.

  • Hyperion Essbase Install Defaults to Change

    Hi,
I am looking for any advice on which defaults you would really expect to reconfigure for a production environment of Essbase.
    thanks,
    Robert.

    Hi Sh!va,
Named after the Goddess who dances all of creation?
To clarify, I am looking for what you would typically expect to alter on default config when going live, i.e. a top five you would always expect to have to look at the following before go live or any scale of UAT testing...
    thanks,
    Robert.

  • Error 404--Not Found - After Installing Essbase 11.1.2.2

    Hi,
    I have experienced error.
I have one box of EPM 11.1.2.2, using Windows 2008. After installing Foundation and configuring it, there's no problem at all. I can open workspace and interop as well.
However I added Essbase, installing and configuring it. But after installing Essbase, I managed to turn on Hyperion Shared Service again, it didn't work.
    The error says:
    Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
What I have done is reconfiguring Shared Service, Essbase also. But no luck at all.
Does anybody have the clue, please advise. Thanks.

  • How to install Oracle Essbase

    Hello!
I would like to install Oracle Essbase and then using OBIEE to designing Dashboards
    I can download from: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/bi/performance-management/111130/hyperion_essbase_111130.html
and I have downloaded three files of these page...
In my machine I have installed Windows 2003 Server and OBIEE.
How can I install Oracle Essbase? In my downloaded files I have only .dat files and I haven't setup files...
    Anybody can help me??
    Thanks!
    P.D. I don't have acces to http://edelivery.oracle.com/

Have you had a look on the web, google > type > installing essbase 11
There are a few installation guides that come up.
Also there is a V11 guide available on Oracle by Example to give you an idea :- http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/hyp_epm/Kennedy_install/Kennedy_OBE.htm
You need more than just the essbase install files, you need the Installer and Foundation files.
    Cheers

  • Essbase / EPM Configurator Install Issue

    Hello guys,
I've installed EPM and later Essbase correctly on an Windows Server 2003 32 bits.
The problem is when I've tried to configure EPM Configurator... when I've had only EPM installed there it worked fine, but after Essbase install there is an issue: Unexpected error has occured.
In the log file configtool.log appears:

    Could anybody please help me?

    George ,
    There are 3 steps
    1. configure database
    2. register with shared services
    3. deply to app server
admi , password should work in the next window
next , you select the database of DB2 , SQL server or oracle
I think, you pay more attention in providing correct database configuration details .
Check the port number ,re check the database name and the user name ,and whether this user has required prevelages
Then also check whether the TCP/IP protocol is enabled
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to share an ODBC.INI across Essbase servers?

    h5. Summary
Our planned production environment may have as many as 15 Essbase servers so it would be useful if the odbc.ini file could be maintained centrally. Is this possible?
    h5. Problem
The servers are implemented as a high availability cluster. The infrastructure team telll me that a side-effect of this is that the Essbase install builds the server node name into the path for EPM_ORACLE_HOME. Because this path has to be hard-coded in the odbc.ini Driver specification (see below) this apparently forces you to maintain a separate odbc.ini for each Essbase server.
    +Driver=/ htesb1 /u03/Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/lib/ARora24.so+
    h5. Requirement
As part of the landscape we will have an OCFS shared file system mounted across all the Essbase servers. What I'd like to be able to do is place a single odbc.ini file on this file system and for that file to be used by all the Essbase nodes. I've tried using an environment variable in the Driver path specification. I've also tried using a symbolic link.
Does anybody know of a way to avoid the hard-coded paths in the odbc.ini?
    h5. Alternative
Another possibility is to use OCI instead though I saw in another thread that this doesn't work with parallel loads. Assuming this problem can be got around it means that the connection information will be consistent regardless of the essbase server and the odbc.ini maintenance problem then goes away. The catch is that the connection information is then embedded in the rules file meaning that we have to update same whenever they are moved between environments (e.g. dev to test) and whenever an environment's connection details change. I tried using substitution variables but these only apply to ODBC connection names. Does anyone know if there is some way to parameterise the OCI connection information?
    h5. Versions
    Essbase Release 11.1.2 (ESB11.1.2.1.102B147)
    Linux version 2.6.32.12-0.7-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.4 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 152973] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2010-05-20 11:14:20 +0200 64 bit

  • Informatica and Essbase Best Practice questions

We now have the Informatica adapter for Essbase installed and working. We have been able to get Informatica to upload data successfully. Now I have a few questions that I have not been able to find answers to in any documentation or forums for Informatica or Essbase. I have submitted these same questions to the Informatica Support but thought I would also post the questions here to see if many folks are using Informatica against Essbase.
    We are using:
    Informatica 8.6.1 (Linux)
    Essbase 11.1.1.3 (Windows 2003)
    1) I can see in Informtica that when we load data to Essbase (Target) it gives me the option to run a calc script AFTER it loads the data. However, if I need to run a Calc script BEFORE the load to Essbase (Target) what is the best practice? The work around I have found was to add the same session twice and for the 1st instance select the option to 'ONLY RUN THE CALC SCRIPT' on the mapping tab. The problem with this is the log shows that it will still run the query against the Source tables. This will impact run times and double to querying against the Source database. What is the Best Practice and proper way to build the workflow to Run a Calc Script BEFORE the load?
2)Since you do not see the list of Calc Scripts for Essbase in Informatica (you have to manually type the Calc name), If I want to run the 'Default' calc for Essbase what is the syntax to run the 'Default' Calc Script? Tried 'Default' but didn't seem to work.
3)I have other tasks in Essbase I want to do before actually having Informatica load the data. I would like to run the MAXL commands via a Command task. What is the Best Practice for doing this and the syntax to run MAXL commands in a Command Task in Informatica? I previously had Shell scripts built on the Informatica server that would be kicked off within Informatica, but we are trying to move away from shell scripts and instead have the scripting codes IN the workflows/sessions to make it easier to review the code and follow the logic, rather than having to find the scripts and open each of them.
Any assistance you have with the two products working together I would GREATLY appreciate it!

AS i know addUser(User user){ ... } is much more useful for several reasons:
    1.Its object oriented
2.its easy to write , because if Object has many parameters its very painful to write method with comma seperated parameters

  • External authentication on Essbase 9.3.1

I am migrating from Essbase 7.3.x on 32-bit Windows to System9 on 64-bit windows. External authentication works on both Shared Services and EAS. I have successfully registered EAS and Essbase with shared services however I do not see Essbase in "User console" of Shared Services as an application. I am able to create native authenticated users in Essbase but unable to externalise the security. I get the following error messages when trying to externalise:
Error: 1051549: Can not convert Analytic Services to Shared Services mode when Analytic Services is not configured with Shared Services or the initialization process has failed
On starting Essbase, I see the following error message when I use the same CSSconfig file as used by shared services:
    [Wed Jul 16 10:26:45 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051223)
Single Sign On function call [css_init] failed with error [getOSVersion]
    [Wed Jul 16 10:26:45 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Info(1051198)
    Single Sign-On Initialization Failed !
If I point to the current CSS file used in production Essbase 7, I get the following message:
    [Wed Jul 16 10:33:26 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051223)
Single Sign On function call [css_init] failed with error [-1]
    [Wed Jul 16 10:33:26 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Info(1051198)
    Single Sign-On Initialization Failed !
In either case everything except External Authentication on System9 for Essbase works.
Both shared services and Essbase are on the same 64-bit Windows box.
Any help in resolving this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vikram.

    HI:
    I recommand following these steps:
    1. Go to the box where you have your Essbase installed
    2. Pull up the Shared Services Configuration Utility
    3. Select COmponent to be registered as Essbase
    4. Remeber to stop the essbase - i assume you are getting the error hence essbae would not have loaded.
    5. Re-register Essbase with Shared services
    6.Start essbase in Foreground
It shuld Start :) good Luck..let me know If this failed..
    Thanks,
    Sriram

  • Essbase 11.1.2 Connectivity issue

I successfully completed the installation of EPM 11.1.2 in a distributed environment:
Server A: Foundation Services, Reporting and Analysis, Workspace.
Server B: Essbase Server and Essbase Studio Server
I added the external MSAD authentication directory in Shared Services.
I am able to login to EAS using either the Admin user or my AD user account. I added the Essbase Server but I am not able to expand or create any new application. I have Admin privileges. I am getting an error message stating that the user does not exist.
Also, I am not able to see the Essbase server listed under Application Groups in SS.
Please help!!!!! Am I missing any steps???? Essbase is running. I restarted all the services but it is still not working...
    Thank you!

I was able to solve the issue.
I followed another thread with similar issues. I initially set up user directories before installing Essbase which seems to be the cause of the issue. As it was a clean installation I was able to deleted the user groups, un-install Essbase/install Essbase, set up user directories again and I was able to connect!

  • Substitution Variable Issue while exporting from Essbase.sec file

    Hello All,
I have an unusually distinct problem.
I have 2 environments (Development and Production) where each environment has a seperate server with Essbase installed in it.
When I tried to get information of the Substitution variables using the 'export security_file to data_file' command through MaxL and then checked the output file in Development, it showed me the right number of substitution variables and their values.
But when I did he same with my Production environment it gives exactly 1 less no of substitution variables in the export file, specifically the last substitution variable that was updated through the Essbase Administration Console.
I guess it is not updating the Essbase.sec file with the last updated Substitution variable. But I can't understand why since the same functionality works in development but not in production.
    Thank You.

    Hi all,
In addition, I exported the Essbase.sec file after a long time after changing the Substitution variable and now it does show the updated substitution variable.
I feel that Essbase does refresh the Essbase.sec file but after a long time. Is there some setting within Essbase that is done which refreshes the artifact files after a while. Or is this a setting within the system in which Essbase has been installed (in my case Linux).
Also the Substitution Variable that has been created is for (all apps) and (all dbs). Is this the reason why this is not working because I tried changing some other Substitution variable which is for a specific app and a specific dbs and it worked fine.
    Thank You.

  • ODI and Essbase in different server to read the file error

    Hi,
I have ODI and Essbase installed in different server.
I have created an interface to execute a calc script on top of an essbase cube. I kept the Caclscript.csc file in one folder in ODI server and provide the path
EXTRACTION_QUERY_FILE parameter is the path of the .csc file i placed in ODI server. it executed successfully to generate the extract file using the calc script in the specified path on Essbase server.
Now i want to read that file and load it to a relational table so map the network drive from ODI server to Essbase server where the file has been generated and provided the EXTRACT_DATA_FILE_IN_CALC_SCRIPT parameter as the Network drive path but ODI is unable to read the file.
any other option to read the file reside in essbase server and load it to relational table.
com.hyperion.odi.essbase.ODIEssbaseException: com.hyperion.odi.essbase.ODIEssbaseException: Error occured while reading the data file produced by calculation script.
    -KP

I would install an ODIAgent on the Essabse server and use this agent when running this particular operation
