Essbase instances

If we have essbase 1 and essbase 2 in same environment.
Essbase 1 will be for Essbase Only applications, where in Essbase2 will
deploy planning apps on it.Essbase 2 box will also have Planning installed.
Both essbase servers will share partitions.
Do you agree to this architecture? will it improve performance for our client?
What pros and cons you see with this model?

Sorry which company do you work for?
All your previous questions looked like exam questions and you didn't take the time to even bother to mark them helpful, correct, answered.

  • Clone Essbase Instance

    Hi,
What is the best way to Clone a Essbase Instance?
    Victor

    Hi,
Could you expand on "clone" a little bit more? Maybe describe the business need/requirement?
That said, you could just copy all the apps out and migrate them over to the new instance by saving off the outline, objevts and data?
Or you could use LCM to pull the apps via Shared Services and then export the data as well.
Bit more detail would help us give you a better answer!

  • Multiple Essbase Instance

    hi,
I need to create new Hyperion Instance but I don't have enough server resources
Is it possbile to install 2 Oracle DB and 2 essbase in one server
did anyone configure this kind of setup, multiple instance in one server
    cheers

    hi,
Yes I agreed on that aspect to put one instance per server for better server utilization
Is there any notes that discuss the best architecture for Hyperion, hope you can provide one
It will help me present to our management the pros and cons of putting multiple instance in 1 server
But it is possbile to put multiple Essbase and Oracle instance in one server right? In case they will not use the instance at the same time
We intend to put Test and Training Instance in one server, but Training instance will up during Training session only
hope to get good recommendation from you
    thanks in advance

  • Two Essbase instances vs two applications

Hi,I am trying to determine which would be better from a performance perspective:I have to create two applications in Essbase and I have one windows 2000 server. Is it better:a. to run two instances of Essbase on the same windows 2000 server with one application running on each instance orb. to run 1 instance of Essbase on the windows server and run both applications in that instanceThanks

It depends on the version of Essbase you are using. If you are on 6.2 or above, you can change the default listening port for the Essbase agent and application server processes, which allows you to have multiple instances on the same box.An easier way to run multiple servers on one box might be to use technology like VM Ware or Microsoft Virtual PC - they allow you to create a virtual machine which can have its own Essbase install, with your production Essbase environment running on the "base" OS.RegardsJade-------------------------------------Jade ColeSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity [email protected]

Hi folks,I was wondering if it is possible to have two instances of Essbase running on the same box (Win 2K server). We want the dev and the test environments to be logically seperate but physically on the same server. Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Installing Multiple instances of Essbase on a single machine

    Dear gurus,
I have done the vanilla installation of Hyperion Suit of Products (11.1.2.2) on my VM machine (windows 2008 SP1, Its a Virtual Machine) ( I installed Foundation, EAS and just Essbase)
My First Essbase instance is running on default port 1423, and I tried to configure the second instance of Essbase using port 1424 and all donfiguration went successful. I can see the 2nd service of essbase up and running at services.msc
I followed the steps mentioned at:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_install_11121/frameset.htm?essbaseAgentPortPanel.html
My 1st instance is installed at: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1
My 2nd instance is installed at: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2
Now the problem is that, I am able to Add and Connect to 1st instance of Essbase (SERVERNAME:1423) using the admin account in EAS,
but when I try to add the 2nd Instance of Essbase as  SERVERNAME:1424 using admin account , It throws following error:

    2) Can I just copy the essbase.sec of 1st instance to 2nd instance?
Can You please point me to a some reference to have multiple independent instances of Essbase on same machine?
I sincerely thanks for your time to this request.
    Warm Regards,
    Amit

    Super John,
Sincere thanks for your quick response As Suggested ,
I just followed the following steps and it worked
    1) Run the "Stop server" (a shortcut on the desktop) to STOP the services
    2) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2\bin\stopEssbase.bat   to STOP the 2nd instance
    3) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\stopEssbase.bat   to STOP the 1st instance
    4) For 2nd instance rename the Essbase.log and essbase.sec file to some dummy names e.g. like Essbase_old.log and essbase_old.sec
    5) Now Run the "Start Server" (desktop shortcut)
    6) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2\bin\startEssbase.bat   to START the 2nd instance
    7) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\startEssbase.bat   to START the 1st instance
    8) Add the 2nd and 1st instance to EAS

  • Multiple production instances - KScope follow up

Had this posted on Network 54 and it was recommended that I post here as well.
During one of the lunch and learn sessions at KScope I texted in a question about multiple instances in production. It seemed there was some confusion to the question so I thought expanding the question with additional details here may provoke some additional conversation on the topic.
We are currently running a single essbase instance with active - passive clustering in production on 11.1.2.1 (considering 11.1.2.3 for next year). For example purposes lets say we have two business areas sharing the instance each with 50 applications for a total of 100 applications. Things run very smoothly most of the time, but from time to time during peak usages the single threaded nature of the security file can slow things down. My thought was to run two instances of Essbase, one for each business area, one active on server A and one active on server B. They would each have there own failover to the other server.
    Current Set-up
    Server A
    Active
    Instance 1
    100 applications
    Server B
    Passive
    Instance 1
    Proposed Setup
    Server A
    Instance 1 active - 50 applications
    Instance 2 passive
    Server B
    Instance 1 passive
    Instance 2 active - 50 applications
I have seen that you can setup multiple instances on a server, but have also seen that it is not recomended for production. Are they considering this scenario when they do not recommend it or are there other reasons. I am fine if both instances fail to the same server as we run all applications on one server now and have plenty of memory. Also, we would have separate file systems and a separate port for the second instance (our end users do not know the port bases on their log in today so that will not be an issue). Are there any concerns with this approach, has anyone else tried it? We have successfully done this in our development region, but that does not have the usage on it that production has. It also seems a waste to have all the processors and memory sitting on server B not doing anything - we are paying for it why not use it.
Some additional information that was requested.
This is in addition to DR and having failover is required based on internal audit/IT standards.
We have a NAS device and understand that is still a single point of failure and is likely a bottleneck, which is why we archive any modified databases each night along with packaging up rules and calc scripts.
The servers are UNIX with 48 cores and 256+ Gig of Ram.
About half or more of the databases require write back.
    Thanks Andy

We have implemented similar solutions to take advantage of a server that otherwise be redundant for the majority of the time and it does work well, I have not personally done this type of configuration on unix using OPMN but have on windows using failover clusters, I feel OPMN is a bit poor in terms of management and lacks functionality so maybe worth considering Oracle clusterware depending on the flavour of Unix.
You could also look at look at virtualisation options as an alternative.

  • Creating a new Essbase Cluster on the same Solaris server

    Hi All,
    I have two servers:
    Server1: Foundation services, APS, EAS
Server2: Essbase Server, Essbase Studio Server on epminstance_1
Due to business requirements I need to "rename" the Essbase cluster from "EssbaseCluster-1" to something else.. I know this is not possible and from the below document I understand that I need to create a new instance on Server2 and configure Essbase and Essbase Studio on it.
"How to Rename Essbase Cluster (Doc ID 1434439.1)"
Goal: In EPM System Release 11.1.2.x, is it possible to rename the Essbase instance and cluster names after they are configured?
Solution: No, it is not possible to rename the Essbase cluster or instance names after the initial configuration. If you need to change the instance and cluster names, create new instance and cluster. Export the applications from the old cluster and import them into the new cluster.
My doubt lies with configuring the 2nd Essbase server as I am not clear how a single environment with two Essbase standalone instances on the same physical Solaris server, with each belonging to their own cluster will behave. I know that they are independent clusters and the concept of active/passive and active/active clusters are for Essbase instances part of the same cluster.
I plan to create a new epminstance_2 instance on Server2 and configure the 2nd Essbase server as follows: give it a *new* cluster name and not assign it to the existing Essbase cluster and deploy it in standalone mode.
    1. Now I plan to use the 1st instance only as a backup option.. In an event where for some reason the new instance were to fail I would start up the services on the older essbase instance. Is this possible without any additional configuration or changes to OPMN?
    2. Alternatively, say we want to remove the older instance. Kindly suggest ways in which I can safely "remove" the older cluster (other than uninstalling). Also when users log in using SmartView, they would see the older and new cluster.. Is there anyways I can get rid of the older cluster without having to uninstall everthing on Server2 and start fresh?
    Thanks!

    Thanks John!
I have a doubt which I hope you can throw some light now..
I created a new instance and configured Essbase Server and Studio server on it. So now I have two EPM instances on the same physical server both having Essbase server and Essbase studio server - both Essbase servers belong to different Essbase clusters. Now from the EPM docs I do not find any mention that we can or cannot have multiple instances of Essbase Studio on the same server. Kindly correct me if I am wrong..
In the deployment report I see two identical entries for the Essbase Studio server in the older epminstance but I do not see Essbase Studio of the 2nd Instance.
    epmsystem_1 (Server2)
                    Essbase Studio Server - 9080
    epmsystem_1 (Server2)
                    Essbase Studio Server - 9080
After I start up the 2nd Essbase Studio server I tried connecting to it from Essbase Studio Console and got the error "Read permission denied to object folder:\'system'."
Similarly when I run start_BPMS_bpms1_CommandLineClient.sh and issue the reinit command I get the same error.
So I stopped the 2nd Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_2 and started up the first Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_1. I was able to connect to it fine from Essbase Studio console and reinit worked too.. I ran a drill through report which worked fine.
-> So is it that we can have only one instance of Essbase Studio on a single server?
Also say I want to use the Essbase Studio on the 2nd instance.. Could I re-configure just Essbase server on epmsystem_1 and re-configure Essbase server and Essbase studio server on epmsystem_2 ?
    Thanks,
    Kent

  • How do I remove previous configuration of Essbase Server from Shared Services?

    Hi All,
I'm trying to reinstall Essbase Server (on a new server; we've upgraded the Essbase Server hardware) and reload data but the current install believes I've already configured it despite removing EssbaseCluster-1 from Shared Services Application Groups.  Is there something else I have to do to get the new install of Essbase Server configured as a new Essbase instance?

  • Lost Essbase Filters in Essbase 11.1.2.1

    Hi,
Recently i was having trouble with an application/database that had Essbase filters setup. I had to delete the app/db and in the process deleted the essbase filters. After re-creating the app/db i wanted to restore the essbase filters instead of re-creating them.
Is the Essbase filter stored in a file which could be restored if i have a nightly tape backup or do i need to create the filters from scratch?
    Thanks and Regards
    Kunal Tripathi

The filters are stored in the essbase.sec file whch holds information for the whole essbase instance so I would think about the consequences before restoring it, if you have an export of the security file then the information will be in there.

  • Financial Reporting Studio not allowing to connect to Essbase server

    Hi All,
I have installed 11.1.2.2 HFR studio (32 bit installed via workspace) on my machine and After logging in the Studio,
when I try to create the Essbase connection in it, it throws me following error:
    "Failed to Connect to server"
"Error connecting to database connection connection_name: Error: Error getting CSS support information for driver [com.hyperion.ap.aps.Driver]"
    Any idea to solve this.

    Hello Celvin,
Thanks a lot for your reply to this post.
Actually, We have foundation on One machine and Essbase on different machine.
So we have installed (R&A) FR on machine where we have Foundation installed.
Also my Essbase machine is having Two instances of Essbase running on it, one on 1423 port and other on 1424 port.
    My Environments:
MACHINE 1: Foundation + FR (FR Studio throwing error while creating essbase connection to MACHINE 2, but works opk with VM Machine)
MACHINE 2: Essbase (Two instances, one on 1423, other on 1424 port)
VM Machine: Essbase + foundation + FR on same machine (FR Studio works fine here)
Now, as per the suggested links,
    2nd option-->)
we were not having the "admaps.jar" file on Foundation MACHINE 1
. so I copied this file from my other working environment (VM Machine), but I am getting error: "Failed to connect to server" when I try to create an Essbase connection on FR Studio installed on same Foundation Machine 1 to any ESSBASE instance of MACHINE 2.
So, I thought to try the below 1st option as well.
    1st option-->)
I tried to set the registry values on foundation machine (FR installed), but very strang, we are not having any Folder in
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hyperion Solutions\FinancialReporting0\HyS9FRReports"
    I really Don't know how?
We have configued All the WEB in Single Managed Server on WEBLOGIC.
Also, My working environment is on a 64 bit Vritual Machine from which I copied the "admaps.jar" file to my non-working  MACHINE 1.
Also using the FR Studio on this non-working MACHINE 1
, I am NOT able to connect to the Essbase server of VM environment (only one Essbase instance on 1423), also not able to any connect to any of the Essbase instance on port 1423/1424 of MACHINE 2 as well.
Any other idea to get this resolved.?
Again thanks for your time to this post.

  • How to deregister epm instances from shared services

    Hi All,
I had Hyperion EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows Server A and repsitories on Oracle Database B.
I freshly installed Hyperion EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows Server C and configured it with repositories on Oracle Database D (which are exact replica of repositories on Oracle Database B).
Now what I'm stuck with is that shared services on Windows Server C is still configured with Essbase/Planning instance of Windows Server A as well. This is creating problems for me when I try to access calculation manager on Windows Server C and I see Essbase/Planning applications from Essbase instance of Windows Server A.
Is there anyway I can deregister the entire epm instance of Windows Server A from shared services on Windows Server C?
I don't want any connections between EPM on Windows C and EPM on Windows A because soon windows server A will be retired.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Jayant Sahewal

Removing instances in 11.1.2.1 is not so easy, it is not until 11.1.2.3 that there is an option to remove an instance, in 11.1.2.1 you really have to uninstall products to remove them from the registry, then also try applying the registry cleaner patch to see if it helps, if it doesn't then look at the epmsys_registry utility to delete entries from the registry.
    Cheers

  • Multiple Dropbox instances fail to install

I downloaded the dropbox package v. 1.4.2-1 from the AUR and successfully installed.  I then attempted to install a second instance of dropbox just as I have done  several times in Ubuntu with the following command in konsole:
    HOME=$HOME/.dropbox-alt /usr/bin/dropboxd start -i
The output I get in terminal is
    No protocol specified
I have also attempted to use the script for installing multiple dropbox instances that is located here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dr … _Instances  but I get the exact same problem.
    Anyone else having this problem?

This is precisely why I had to change the instance home for each new Essbase instance I wanted to create on the server. So by default the instance home is <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\user_projects\ but when running the configtool you can choose a different instance home and by doing so a new location for the reg.properties file is created.
I wonder if I just deleted the <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\user_projects\config\foundation\11.1.2.0\reg,properties file, created instances in the usual instance home location and then created a reg.properties file within each instance it would pick up the reg.properties file, or the services would complain about not being able to find the reg.properties? Hope that made sense
    Thanks,
    -Dan

No, I can't. In the configuration page, the 'Essbase Instance Name' is readonly. When I click 'Next', it complains about the instance name is already exists.
