Essbase Integration services(EIS)

Hi All,
Please can any one explain me what is EIS ? How it is related to Essbase? I have a EIS product license, but i want to know where it is installed in the Unix environment? How to find it. Is it related to drill through? We have few Essbase spreadsheet tools , is it related to that? Please provide information of it....
Is EIS is a product that acts a link between spreadsheet and essbase database?

I have a document which details the installation of Essbase version 5.02 p10 for Application Manager and Excel Add In and Essbase version 5.01 p9 for the SQL Drill Through on a user's PC under XP.
It also details the procedure to install the Essbase, Aged Debt and Trial Balance Toolbars and how to install the necessary ODBC Drivers.
In that document am not able to find EIS product. Is it some thing running background in unix server?
But user use, spreadsheet to connect Essbase and to some applications in the server. We also have some application toolbars which i mentioned above is it related to EIS?
I have gone through the document you mentioned, but in that it was refering a olapisvr.log file. But in server am not able to locate it.
Your help and guidance will be more helpful.

Chinese Character Problem in Essbase Integration Service & Oracle9i

I installed oracle9i on windows2000,which character set is SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280. And I installed Essbase Integration Service 6.5.4 on HP-UNIX server. I designed an OLAP Model in Integration Services Console and I defined some dimensions name using chinese characters. When I saved the model, the chinese characters I inputed is saved as some question marks(?) in the tables in oracle 9i. After I loaded the dimension data which include the chinese charaters, the dimension data which is chinese characters also displayed question marks in the EIS console. I have added the variable NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280" in the .profile, but it did not work either. How can I solve this problem? Can I do any configuration on EIS files to solve this problem? Would you please help me? Thank you very much!

Essbase Integration Services Not Starting

Hi All,
I am using EPM 11.1.2.1 and unable to start the Essbase Integration Services. When I started the services from services.msc, I got the below error:
Windows could not start the Hyperion Integration Services on Local Computer.
For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service
vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 0.
Event ID 7024
What could be wrong with it / Does someone could help me ?

To whom it may concern......
1. Check in Windows Task Manager for the 'olapisvr.exe' process, and if it's running stop it.
2. Start the EIS Service Windows Services (Service.msc) as normal.

A user at EIS level is actually a user set up on the relational catalog where your olap models/metaoutlines are stored. For instance if you got to the OLAP model properties dialog and the General tab you can see the owner here is the user you use to connect to your catalog. You can also prevent other users from accessing models not owned by them by setting the security option from the drop-down list on this tab.Mark Rixon www.analitica.co.uk

EIS/AIS [Essbase Integration Service] and SHARED SERVICES

I got the following error message when trying to get Shared Services Connection with integarion server:
Error -1: Contact your AIS administrator because the Java runtime

Essbase integration services

Hi Techies,
Good Morning to all.
I am working on EIS 9.3.1 version.
Just i have quetion to all of my friends.
Already i am having one olap model & metaoutline & data loaded successfully & that project got completed.
Now new requirement like they want to load the data in the same existing cube from different datasource (SQL).
Is it possible?? there is any other way??
Please suggest me ...

If you dont need to change the essbase structure to accept the data from the another datasource.
You can directly load the data into essbase using SQL connection and rule file from the EAS itself.
Note:
Check the data which you are trying to load from another source is overwriting any thing which is already exists in the cube.
Best solution:
Club both the fact tables into a single
Do the necessary changes to the dimension tables so that resultant essbase will accept the complete data.
Build a single OLAP model to map and load the both data sources.

Essbase Integration Services problem.

I have access to only EIS Console through Citrix.
When I start EIS Console, after first loginwindow, it is throwing the error like " Server is not running, make sure that this is running" like so. As i think this is for EIS server. I m getting the console but unable to connect.
Now my Question is : Can we start the EIS Server through EIS Console. If there is any way PLease tell me.

You can't start EIS from the console. It should be running as a service on the server. If it stops (which happens more than I like) it must be restarted on the server. When I am in a production environment, when we are using EIS part of my process stops and restats the service before doing my EIS loads. It has saved me a bunch of problems. After stopping and after starting the service I use a sleep command to give it time to stop and start.
If you don't have access to the server, you will have to get someone who does to recycle the service

Essbase Integration Services Error Logic Implementation

Hi All,
We are using EIS for Member Load activity and populating the outline to Essbase for the cubes.
As part of this process we have the cbs file and bat script and we initiate the bat script for this activity.
Now, i want to see the Failure and Success of the Member Load into some other file and send a message for Success or Failure..
Moreover, i see the word 'synchronously' as part of success in general.
Did anyone implemented this anytime? If so kindly let me know how i need to check for the failures or Success
and will try to implement the same

This is a known issue in the EIS Version 11.1.1.3 and is fixed in EIS 11.1.2.1

Integration Services Console cannot start

Windows XP Professional SP2
Installed the following;
- Hyperion Shared Services Release 9.3.1
- Hyperion Essbase - System 9 Release 9.3.1 Server
- Hyperion Essbase - System 9 Release 9.3.1 Client
- Essbase Administration Services Release 9.3.1
- Essbase Integration Services Release 9.3.1
When I tried to start Programs > Essbase > Integration Services > Integration Services Console, olapbldr crashes.
Anyone seen similar problems?

Installing Reporting & Analysis software changes the value of the system variable ARBORPATH, perhaps that's causing EIS to hiccup. If you still have Reporting installed just make sure your ARBORPATH on your server & clients is:
C:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices
(or whatever the path is to where you have AnalyticServices installed). Remove the extraneous entry that Reporting creates! It is not needed unless you have it installed on a box that has no Essbase installed, and only if you plan to use Essbase as a reporting data source. It causes issues with the Excel add-in for sure and I suspect it may be messing with your EIS.
Let us know if that helps. I assume this is 9.3.1?

Part of our information is in Microsoft Access. Also we have information in Essbase. Is posible to use/apply Essbase Integration Services for the information contained in tables in MS Access?Thanks,

Studio vs Integration services

Hello All,
Can you plz tell me what is the difference between Essbase Studio and Essbase Integration services?
If i have Essbase studio installed,do i really need to install Integration services?

To add to Sandeep's comments, it's my understanding that Studio is the future, and EIS is most definitely the past. What I mean by that is that Oracle essentially made no improvements to EIS with 11x, and is not going to do so in the future.
EAS is in the same position -- still supported, but not enhanced.
Studio is the way forward.
It really is way cool, and really reflects Oracle's drive to push Essbase to the next level.

Integration Services - Dimension Table

I?m trying to build a dimension table for a star schema to be used with Essbase Integration Services. I need to know how to structure the table when the data in the fact table is at a more granular level that that of the Essbase leaf member. The typical structure of my dimension tables is: [Leaf Node Name], [Leaf Node Alias], [Gen01], [Gen02]?, where the leaf node name is also the level of detail in my fact table.

Well do remember bitmap indexes are best on columns where there not so many unique values. Everyone has differing opinions on what that # ought to be. In other words, the cardinality, or # of unique elements is not extremely high.
IN general, bitmap indexes will improve performance given that the CBO is using them.
Look at this post, it is a pretty good discovery on this sort of thing. it tends to be a design process, where you test with your given dataset and optimize it.

Yep, they are the same. The newer is Essbase Integration Services and is very much improved. Attribute Dimensions with Integration Services

Good evening, I'm creating an ASO Essbase model through Integration Services v9.3.1 and I am having difficulties with creating an Attribute dimension that contains a hierarchy.
We have a list of stock codes which are grouped by vendor in a dimension, each stock code has an attribute assigned to it for the buyer responsible.
The business requirement is to start from the top level of the attribute dimension, drill in to categories, then to drill in to teams, and finally to the buyer... so we effectively require 3 levels within the attribute dimension.
I have successfully created both the vendor (physical) and buyer (attribute) dimensions through EIS without problems, but when I load to Essbase all of the buyers are added at the top level of the dimension and I can't seem to specify that there should be a parent/child hierarchy to build the attribute dimension from.
Is this possible, and if so any advice you can give as to how I achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

This is definitely a supported feature in EIS/9.3.1/ASO. I have many models with this type of structure. How you set it up can vary. Usually my Attribute Hierarchies are not that deep, only two to three levels, maybe four in a rare case, so I don't usually use a parent child table to set up the hierarchy (I'm not saying that it won't work, it might, I haven't tried, but same steps should apply). In a typical model I will have my stock table which has a buyer field. Then in another table I will have my attribute structure which will have columns for buyer, teams, and categories.
In EIS OLAP model, you add your attribute hierarchy table and use a join to link it to the main stock table, joining on the buyer field (you are now going from a "star" schema to a "snowflake". Go into the properties and make sure you define all the columns as "Attributes".
Then in Metadata model, drag your categories attribute onto the outline, then drag the teams and set it as a child of categories and finally drag buyer and set as child of teams. You only set the attribute association for the buyer back to the base dimension.
When you run your dim build it will set up your attribute dimension correctly.
Some things to keep in mind, make sure you have a process that ensures for every stock code you have in the main table, you have a matching one in your attribute dim table.
Sometimes, depending on how much manipulation I need to do, instead of joining the tables in EIS I will go back to relational source and create a view that joins the two tables together, then in my OLAP model, I have one table that has three attribute columns, one column for the buyer and then the other two for team and category, from that point setting up in metadata model is the same.
