Essbase migration (from backup)

Gurus,
In the environment I work in, we backup Essbase everyday. We have script to backup all the artifacts, such as essbase.sec, essbase.bak, essbase.cfg, .otl, .csc, .rep, .rul, etc.
We have several cubes in Essbase and we are supposed to recreate the same cubes in a different server. We do not have any cubes in the new server, so we need to have the same cubes as we have now in our production environment. How could we do this task? One may be via LCM but I would like to know if there are any other options such as copying, etc.
All the files we have are under \\server\d$\Hyperion\Essbase. So is there any way we can copy the whole essbase folder and paste it in the target server?
OR do we need to do something else?
Guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks

John and Kyle,
Thank you both for sharing your knowledge.
Well, I am thinking about using the LCM because while reading your links and then going over some of the docs, it seems to be more sensible.
Some questions,
In HSS, when i click the application group, and under FOUNDATION when I click SHARED SERVICES and export it, I have got the exported file in the FILESYSTEM. Also I have the option to save the migration definition. Do I need to copy the migration definition to the target environment or do i need to just copy the file I named during the EXPORT?
Also, we are migrating the whole SYSTEM to the new environment which consists of Planning applications, essbase cubes, reports and scripts, rules files, business rules, data forms, and all the artifacts.
Is it possible to achieve this via LCM?
ALSO, is there any sequence we need to follow in doing the export and import using LCM?
thank you again.

  • Essbase migration from 9 3 1 to 11 1 2 2

    Hi Gurus,
    I wish to migrate essbase applications from 9 3 1 to 11 1 2 2
I know one of the way is to use migration wizard to copy databases and do data export and import
    I am wondering if anyone had done App folder copy from 9 3 1 to 11 1 2 2
I tried doing that, however I get an error saying unable to load database
    Please help
    thanks
    Praveen.

    Thanks John.
the process works when the source and target are in same version (9 3 1 )
    but it fails when i go from 9 3 1 to 11 1 2 2
i am using a level 0 export and importing the data
but I am wondering why it don't work across versions.

  • Essbase migration from system 7.x to 11.x system

    Hi,
    Please i need help !
I want to migrate the essbase applications from 7.x system to 11.x system not by using the wizard.
Just i want to do it using the batch script in windows environment.
Please send the script with one example.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
If you want to batch it up then you will can use Maxl to create the v11 app / db.
If you have security/filters you want to export then it is possible with maxl though you will have to play around with the format. All the maxl statements are available in the [tech ref|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_techref/launch.htm] so have a read. If that is too much of struggle then you could have a look at using the [advanced security manager|http://www.appliedolap.com/free-tools/advanced-security-manager] tool as that may help.
You will also be able to export / import the data using Maxl.
As for the database objects (otl,csc,rep,rul..) you can use windows command line to copy them.
I am not going to provide the script to do it as with a little reading of the tech ref you should be able to develop a script yourself, if you get stuck then there always help here to guide you on your way.
    Cheers

  • Essbase Migration from 6.5.7 to 11.1.1

    Hi
Please clarify me below two questions
    1) we are using Essbase 6.5.7 now our customer want to move from 6.5.7 to Essbase 11.1.1 can we do migration from V6 to V11 directly or we have to go from V6.5.7 to V9.3.1 to V11.1.1. what are the precautions we need to take care while doing migration.
    2) we have Essbase VBA API 6.5.7, can we move from 6.5.7 to 11.1.1 VBA API's. if it is yes then what are the precautions we need to take care while going form V6 to V11. some where i have read like performance of VBA API tools will be decreased. If yes what is the alternative.
    Thanks in advance.

    1) As of now, there is no direct upgrade option available from version 6 to 11. It is supported only from version 9 to 11. However, if it is only an essbase you can always go a fresh installation of system 11 and migrate your essbase cubes into 11 environment using migration wizard in EAS.

  • Essbase migration from 6.5.7 to 9.3

    Hello all,
We need to migrate Essbase applications from 6.5.7 to 9.3. I have read somewhere that it will not be a direct upgrade from 6.5 to 9.3.
    1. Could you please someone explain the steps that we need to consider?
    2. Can you please tell me from version 6.5 to which intermediate version and then to version 9.3?
    3. Do we also need to buy the intermediate version?
    Thanks
    Ramesh

    Hi,
Ramesh, we are not able to do the direct migration. If u want to migrate from 6.5.7 to 9.3, then you should need to migrate into intermediate version.
    1) Steps:
By using migration wizard in AAS, you are able to migrate the application from one server to another.
First u need to migarte the application into 7X version and then to 9.3 version.
Important points to be remember :
    * You must have Create/Delete Applications permissions for both the source and target Essbase Servers to use Migration Wizard.
    * The target server for the application migration cannot be an older version than the source server.
    * Make sure the target server is running.
    2) Can you please tell me from version 6.5 to which intermediate version and then to version 9.3?
Need to migrate into 7X version.... i.e latest version of 7X ... It should be 7.1.5...
    3) I am not sure in this.......

  • Essbase migration from different env

    Hi All,
I need to migrate CUBE from DEV to QA env, I use the Essbase Administration tool to connect DEV and QA Essbase server, I copied the application from DEV to QA, after I test in the OBIEE report, found only the dimensions have data, the fact have no data,
I am wondering what would be the standard migration steps for Essbase cube?
Is there any one who have the same problem?
    please help.
    thanks & regards
    henry He

    Hi,
    Did you export data?
Can you try to pull the data through excel or just with preview option in EAS(only for non unicode applications). If you see data here then there should be some problem pulling the combinations of data in OBIEE.
Can you see if there are any index/pag files for application in QA? this will also confirm if your application has any data.

  • Essbase migration

    Hi Team,
I am doing only essbase migration from verion 7.1 to 11.1.2.2 . All i need is Essbase and EAS in the upgraded version.
    1) Do i need shared service in the newer version? If yes, do I need Oracle DB because shared service security is stored in DB?
    2) Do i need provider services installed?
    Thanks for your time.
    Thanks,
    Hari.

    Hi Hari,
As per the documentation and recommendation, if you are consider upgrading any Hyperion component, it is recommended and advised that all the components should be in the same version.
If you plan to upgrade Essbase to version 11.1.2.2 then all the other EPM components(Hyperion) should be in the same version. This is documented.
    For your information -
Upgrading from version 7.1.6.x to 9.3.1.x_
Migrating from 7.1.6 to 9.3.1. is covered in the online documentation in Chapter 'Upgrading Hyperion Products'. Essentially you are migrating first to 9.2.0.3 then 9.3.1.x
    Source: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/hsys9_install_start_here.pdf
Upgrading from version 7.1.6.x to 11.1.1.x_
If you are upgrading from an earlier release of EPM System products, note the following supported upgrade paths:
    9.2.0.3 to 11.1.1.x
    9.2.1 to 11.1.1.x
    9.3.x to 11.1.1.x
If you are using a release earlier than 9.2.0.3, you must first upgrade to one of the releases in the preceding list, and then upgrade to 11.1.1.x. For upgrade procedures, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

Upgrading from version 7.1.6.x to 11.1.2.x_
Follow the previous instructions to get to 11.1.1.3, and then upgrade to 11.1.2.1
For upgrade procedures, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

  • Essbase migration OS compatibility

    Hi Team,
Can you please confirm if there are any issues with essbase migration from hp-ux to RHEL6 . Can i migrate the L0 data and outline/other artifacts between from source to destination. Will there be any compatibility issues?
Essbase 7.1.0 running in HP unix 64 bit version --> EPM 11.1.2.2 under RHEL 6 64 bit.
    Thanks for your time.
    Hari.

You should be able to migrate the otl and other objects and export/import the data, it might be worth trying to use the EAS migration wizard if it can access both essbase servers.
    Cheers

  • Is there a way to identify which files haven't been migrated from a backup?

I've just upgraded my girlfriends 13" mbp from Leopard to Snow Leopard. It was behaving a little strangely and being sluggish so I erased everything before the upgrade. I've used Migration Assistant to transfer most files from a Time Machine backup but was a bit unsure about transferring everything blindly as I'm a little worried about what was causing the problems before the upgrade. The only items I didn't select in Migration Assistant were the 'All other files and folders' in the 'Users' drop box, and the 'All other files and folders on Macintosh HD'. I left these as I wanted to investigate what exactly these files were but now I have no clue how to go about this. Is there a quick way to highlight which files were present in the backup before the upgrade that aren't there now? Are any of these files likely to be hugely important?
Also, because I backed up again after the upgrade, Migration Assistant automatically selects the last backup to migrate from instead of the one that has the missing files. Is there a way to select which backup file to use from my external drive?
    Thanks

It's usually not a good idea to upgrade a computer that's having problems. They may get fixed, but more often they'll get worse.
'All other files and folders on Macintosh HD'.
Those are other files, not in any user home folders, besides system files. On most installations, they're just a few Help files, but if you've installed things or created files at the top level of a drive, they weren't migrated.
Also, because I backed up again after the upgrade, Migration Assistant automatically selects the last backup to migrate from instead of the one that has the missing files. Is there a way to select which backup file to use from my external drive?
No, unfortunately. You can only do that with a full system restore.
If you used +Setup Assistant+ when the Mac first started up, the user accounts now on the Mac are the same ones, and you can use the "Star Wars" display to restore selected items from older backups. But you can't restore an entire home folder, or the default folders in the user's home folder (Desktop, Documents, etc.); you have to select the contents of those folders instead. See #15 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If you used the +Migration Assistant+ app, however, the user accounts may not be recognized as being the same ones, so may not have permission to see and restore from the backups.
It's a pain, but your best bet may be to start over: do a full system restore of the last Leopard backup, per #14 in the FAQ. Then try to address the "strangely and being sluggish" issue. Once that's either fixed or you determine it isn't a big problem, just install Snow Leopard over Leopard without erasing.

  • How to migrate Mail & Contacts from backup disk of old PPC iMac (10.3.9) to new iMac (10.8.1)?

How to migrate Mail & Contacts from backup disk of old PPC iMac (10.3.9) to new iMac (10.8.1)?
The Firewire disk is connected and have been able to copy across document folders etc, but Migration Assistant doesn't find the disk so that method no good.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks, that looks very comprehensive.  Wish I'd seen it before completing Set-Up Assistant initially!  Will follow his instructions and report back.

  • I can't migrate from a time machine Back up. I select my TC and it says "some backups can't be opened." My HD failed and I'm Trying to get everything back... Can anyone make a suggestion?

I can't migrate from a time machine Back up. I select my TC and it says "some backups can't be opened. Make sure that all of your network devices are connected and turned on. It appears that some backups are already in use. If you don't see the backup you need, make sure it is not currently mounted by another machine and try again."
My HD failed and i installed a new one... I'm Trying to get everything back... Can anyone make a suggestion?

Read the section E about restore issues.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
But you should be able to mount the sparsebundle and backup the major items if they are not damaged. You might also do a disk verify to see if the corruption can be repaired.
Have a look here also for restore of selected items.

  • How migrate from older time machine backup (not the latest)?

My old Snow Leopard Mac had a dying hard drive. In the last few days, files were disappearing left and right.
I bought a new Lion Mac, but I don't trust the Time Machine backup for the last few days and I would like to migrate the backup from just before the problems started.
I can't figure out any way to do this. Migration Assistant only offers to import the latest backup
And the full Time Machine Restore feature, which DOES allow you to pick a backup, only works on the original machine, which will not boot any more.
Can I somehow trick Migration Assistant by deleting the last few backups from the Time Machine drive and renaming the one I want to use to Latest? (I've made a copy of the entire Time Machine folder just in case...)
Any other way to do this? I'm sure many people are in this situation.

I have this same question.  My hard drive died, and the last few Time Machine backups appear to be incomplete or corrupted.  New hard drive installed now.  Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant first refuse to even recognize my backup drive, then insist on migrating data from the newest backup instead of an older (but definitely complete and reliable) backup.  So I haven't migrated anything and am still using my old (OS 10.4) computer until i get this straightened out.  Ideas?

  • System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore as part of migrating from 32 to 64-bit

    Source system (I386): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000, Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
    Target system (x86-64/AMD64): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000 Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
Am using method System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore to migrate from 32 to 64 bit (HOM System Copy).
    Actions on source system:
    a) Upgrade from 9.2.0.7 to Oracle 10.2.0.4
    b) Used ora_br_copy.bat to generate CONTROL.SQL and init<sid>.ora
    c) Switched logfiles
    d) Performed offline backup
    Actions on target system:
    a) Installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 and patched it to 10.2.0.4
    b) Used CD 51033746 "6.20/6.40 based products Installation Master (Edition May 2008)" to install the CI
    c) Started installation of the DB instance selecting System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore (same <SID> for source and target systems)
    Relevant input parameters used:
    Database schema: SAPR3
    Database character set: US7ASCII
    d) When SAPINST stopped to allow for restoring of datafiles, logs and init<sid.ora>:
    - copied datafiles and logs to the usual place
    - copied CONTROL.SQL (edited to include utilrp.sql and utlrp.sql for the migration from 32 to 64) to the DB-instance intallation . directory.
    - copied generated init<SID>.ora to the <ORACLE_HOME>\database
    e) Resumed SAPINST.
David Byrne in a previous post suggested: "check your oracle alert file in case there are errors there you may need to update the word size for the 64bit install. Errors like this in the oracle alert file would suggest that.,
    ORA-12012
    ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: 56319], [, ], [, ], [, ], [
    ORA-06553"
Well, I am getting ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319] but then my edited CONTROL.SQL (which is mainly a CREATE CONTROLFILE as it would be obtained with a ...BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE) includes at the end this:
    shutdown immediate
    startup upgrade
    spool utlirp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
    spool off
    Shutdown immediate
    Startup
    Spool utlrp.log
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
    Spool off
    exit
which is supposed to do just that... (I think)
    Help, anyone?

    > Trying to cheer me up, are you?
    No
    > It is NOT free that reorganization! Quite expensive, actually, paid for in time! But you're right... the database needed a reorg anyway :-\
True, not "free" - it takes time but the data will be nicely aligned then
    > And why would I have to reconfigure all those 10.2 features? Everything's either in the database or init<sid>.ora, ain't it? And my database is a pretty 10.2.0.4 with all those nice features already activated...
No - not really auotmatically if you upgraded from 9.2 And "init<SID>.ora" is past, you nowadays use "spfile" If, of course, e. g. Automatic Undo was activated in 9.2 then it's there of course in 10.2 too.
    > One sticky point... I haven't really read the r3load procedure yet and I will before I import, but... I would say I don't have to do anything about the 32->64 bit, right? I mean, it should behave properly while reloading on 64-bit...
The exported content is about 10 % of the size of the system, it's database and OS independent so yes, you can import it nicely on 32bit. Another tip: make sure you don't just use the default configurations for R3load, it will take a HUGE amount of time. Use the package splitter (builtin-in in sapinst) so you get a much higher parallelism when importing.

  • Migrate essbase app from 6 to 9

planning to migrate the app from essbase 6 to esbase 9.to a whole new server.
Any issues with that...any doc on migration from 6 would be useful.
    its urgent

I started to migrate from 6.6 to 9.3.1 and it went quite smooth. What I have done:
    Installed the server.
Used the config tool and removed shared services registration.
    Copied essbase.cfg to new installation.
Had to add the env variables manually on AIX from the hyperionenv.doc.
    Installed the eas server.
Used config tool for config and deployment of eas on std settings.
Installed the eas client and used the migration tool to migrate some databases to the new server from a 6.6 (6.6 running on different machine than 9.3)
Tested our batch processing for data load, security transfers, data staging etc. which uses some api interfaces and ESSCMD and maxl scripts. All without any problems. All settings were kept the same as on the old systems (essbase.cfg, db settings, app settings).
