Essbase on San Drive

We have installed Essbase in SAN drive. It was working fine for past 2 years recently we have noticed some abnormal behaviour on the calc performance. The same calc takes 2 hrs in the morning but if we run at around 6 pm takes 4 - 5 hrs. I(there is no backup process running at 6 pm).
Any suggestion what needs to be check to find the issue?

Hi,
As SAN setup is a common storage setup for all the applications/systems of an enterprise. It might have some maintance issues ..which might impact our essbase environment.
But, I personally would prefer to have the installation of an application ( like essbase on the local drive of the server ) and distribute its storage across the SAN drives( as my storage requirement for essbase might be huge, and might beed in TB's ,which is possible only through SAN).
Its more important for an applications performance that SAN is configured optimally for performance. There are few parameters at SAN end like
1. Raid configuration( EX if its Raid 1 0 , though its more expensive , its faster ).
2. How the LUNS and LUSE 's have been assigned
3. Count of spindles ....etc
This is what I can add, hope its useful

  • Using final cut on a network SAN drive

We have Final Cut Pro X installed an new iMacs at the college I work at. We installed Final Cut Pro X 10.0.1 under Mac 10.7.1 and added a network SAN drive to store Media files and it worked perfectly. We then upgraded to 10.7.2 because of network problems we were having with the Macs and now whenever you go to add a SAN drive, all the folders on the network drives are greyed out.
We run the Macs using AdmitMac to connect to the network, it's not a permissions problem as the Macs can read and write to the drives via the finder and we definately do have a SAN in our building to store edited videos.
This is causing us a headache because of security the Macs cannot write to the local drives of the machines and only to the network. It's a real pain because we cannot use Final Cut Pro X at all at the moment. Anyone got any ideas?
We have tried with machines without admitmac and it doesn't work. The only thing we can think of is because of the new security implemented in 10.7.2 for network drives, that might have something to do with it. Like I say the major variable between it working and not working is the Mac OS X update.
Can any help with a workaround that doesn't involve creating a DMG on the network? Please help!

FCP 5.0 is the PowerPC version. That and lower. FCP 5.1 is the Universal version.
Where are you storing your media? Your captured footage?

  • Recover point - SAN Drive Replication DR Test

Just want to share our DR Test exercise which i am involved in, SAs are trying to replicate SAN Drive/Server on 2 places, server has the same name & IP with recover point.
That was my understanding about recover point.
we should be seeing the duplicate on another set of disks on another server, within DCX ( the server can be called the same, but diff IP for that server.( but i say same server name & IP on both ends)
Any body can help me clear my concepts about this?
That was the steps SAs/SAN engineers done
    DNS was activated
    domain controller was activated
tulppsh05 was successfully built from makesysb
tulpcorbadb02 was successfully built from makesysb
    wmstutps01 was restored from symantec
    citrixbox (name?) was built
Replication issue with SAN drives was resolved

    My answers:
    1. The restore command can restore datafiles belonging to tablespaces or control files or spfile and will do this at the right OS locations but it cannot restore online redo logs because RMAN does not back online redo logs.
    2. If you are testing disaster recovery, you should test loosing all database files on disk (control files and datafiles and redo logs and spfile): it means that you can only do incomplete recovery since transactions committed in redo logs are not in your archived redo logs backups. So, yes this is point in time recovery.

  • Capturing OnLocation to a SAN drive

Is anyone capturing through OnLocation to a network drive under a SAN?
I'm talking SAN, Storage Area Networking like Fibre or iSCSI, and not NAS, Network Attached Storage like some cheap ethernet box.
Why do I ask this? I recon that this may be the best forum to launch into some network storage issues when recording in a studio or at an event.

Any luck on this subject. I want to use a raid server to capture approx 20+ hrs of video for a dance competition with the ability to use the server to copy files and produce DVD's on site for my customers. Others in the industry use OnLocation but do not produce on site.

  • Replacing Essbase server , different drive letter

Will be getting a replacement Windows server for our Essbase software & apps(don't have it yet). The directory structure will be the same(\Hyperion\Essbase\...)but not the drive letters. The existing server has a C:(OS) and a D:(data drive). The new server will have a C:(OS) and E:(data drive-this is based upon IT standardization). My plan is to install software and copy Hyperion directories & subdirectories from old to new. I have done this copy in the past when the drives letters are the same, but will it work when the drive letters are different? My main concern is the security file. Will the copy work for security or will I be forced to rebuild security?

You need to re-start the application in order that it takes the new setings. But in order that it moves the files to another drive, you need to export the database (all data), clear the data (clear all data) and to import the data again from the exported file.hope that helpsClaudio

  • How to mount SAN drive inside Solaris 10

    Dear Support,
I have some solaris servers, and storage administrator have given 1 of the solaris server 4 LUN. I will need to mount those drives inside my solaris servers. I would like to know how to do it step by step.
    Anyone can guide me?

    1. After I do rescan with DEVFSADM and I do sympd list will device appear?
    hostname#echo | format :
    Searching for disks...done
here you can able see non labled disks. you need to labled first. after labled, here you are not see disks.
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0.c0t0d0
    2. How can I see the device prior to formatting and mouting it?
After labled, you need to create the new file systems with user : newfs /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0sX
    cerate mount point: mkdir /test
    mount /dev/dsk/c1t2d0sX /test
    3. From the FORMAT command how do I know which is my new device as the server already has plenty SAN disks assigned?
    A): hostname#echo | format :
    Searching for disks...done
here you can able see non labled disks. you need to labled first. after labled, here you are not see any disks.
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0.c0t0d0
    4. From the FORMAT command how do I tie devices back to a SAN/Symmetrix device number?
echo | format | grep c1t2d0 (SAN device name)
    5. Then the easy part to the guru's how to I physically map/moun the newly added device?
you have fallow the above steps..

Sharepoint generally isn't very demanding either.

I've pulled the trigger on a new SAN. With limited funds I decided to get a Nexsan Satabeast. With 42 bays, good reviews, decent performance, and the best $/GB I could find I'm not regretful. However now is the cart of my discontent. I have enough left over funds to buy a combination of SSD and normal drives but I'm unsure of the best combination. At first I had this planned:I was going to load up our VMs that needed high I/O to the SSD LUN like our ERP, Sharepoint, and maybe our exchange. It's just confusing considering the differing opinions on methods.- I went RAID 5 on the SSDs to get some space while saving money but is there a concern about drive wear on certain RAIDs?- Is there another configuration that would take advantage of using some, all, or another set of SSDs as a cache? - With not having a top-of-the-line SAN would I...

  • SANE driver (or other software) for my film strip scanner?

I took advantage of a cheap (£40) offer from Aldi and bought a "Tevion Film Strip Scanner" which nominally is only meant to work on Windows XP and Vista. On Arch, lsusb identifies the device as:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05a9:1550 OmniVision Technologies, Inc. VEHO Filmscanner
and it looks identical to the particular model: Veho VFS-004
I've done quite a bit of searching, and found some hints in forums that SANE might support it, but no evidence of this on the SANE site. Also, Avision drivers for film scanners were mentioned, but no go either when I tried to tweak /etc/sane.d/avision.conf with the device info. Also, I tried the VueScan program which was also hinted to work, but got "scanner not found".
I do have access to Windows to use the device on, but it would be great if anyone knew how it could be accessed on Arch.

    Hi,
No OCR software came with your printer, it may cost more than the printer itself. There are many OCR software around, you can purchase one or please try:

  • Install Essbase App on SAN (v11.1.2)

Has anyone installed the entire Essbase application on a Storage Area Network (SAN) drive in Windows environment? If so, what has been your experience? Faster / slower performance? Any risks should the SAN configuration change on the back end?
In the past, Essbase was always installed on a local D:\ drive and the E:\ drive was used for page and index files.
    Current setup
    1) C:\ Operating system
    2) D:\ Essbase application (essbase.exe, etc) and other non-Essbase apps on a local drive
    3) E:\ Essbase page and index files on a SAN
    Proposed setup
    1) C:\ Operating system
    2) D:\ Other non-Essbase applications on a local drive
    3) E:\ Essbase application (essbase.exe, including page and index files) on a SAN
    Any comments are appreciated.

  • Sans Digital Drives with Snow Leopard-Anyone??

Hey Anyone using Sans Digital drives (USB) with Macbook pro and Snow Lep.
USB drive is crashing my system as soon as I plug it in
    Any Help???
    Matt

Sans Digital has not tested these drives with SL-every time I call them-they think their drives just should automatically work -oh well
Well what is happening with my drives is- I have a Sans Drive that has 2 HD in it -when they are running separate they will mount fine by USB= once I go to disc utility to rad them together in a mirror raid --once the OS mounts them -SL crashes and here comes the grey screen.
Anyone having issues with the raid control in SL --I had these problems with reg leopard as well but I guess with updates it turned out working just fine .

  • Essbase and Windows persistence storage

Has anyone faced issue wherein changes in essbase cause Windows to create too many restore points? Our cube is on a SAN drive (and Windows 2008), and it seems to be mis reporting disk size every now and then. On checking with Windows operations, they found many restore points being created, each one of them taking good amount of space. They say while this behavior is controlled via the windows setting, there is some part being played by Essbase too.

Are you definitely sure Essbase is creating the restore points, do you have evidence to suggest this? If you do then it should be logged with Oracle.
    Cheers

  • Is it possible to share an ODBC.INI across Essbase servers?

    h5. Summary
Our planned production environment may have as many as 15 Essbase servers so it would be useful if the odbc.ini file could be maintained centrally. Is this possible?
    h5. Problem
The servers are implemented as a high availability cluster. The infrastructure team telll me that a side-effect of this is that the Essbase install builds the server node name into the path for EPM_ORACLE_HOME. Because this path has to be hard-coded in the odbc.ini Driver specification (see below) this apparently forces you to maintain a separate odbc.ini for each Essbase server.
    +Driver=/ htesb1 /u03/Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/lib/ARora24.so+
    h5. Requirement
As part of the landscape we will have an OCFS shared file system mounted across all the Essbase servers. What I'd like to be able to do is place a single odbc.ini file on this file system and for that file to be used by all the Essbase nodes. I've tried using an environment variable in the Driver path specification. I've also tried using a symbolic link.
Does anybody know of a way to avoid the hard-coded paths in the odbc.ini?
    h5. Alternative
Another possibility is to use OCI instead though I saw in another thread that this doesn't work with parallel loads. Assuming this problem can be got around it means that the connection information will be consistent regardless of the essbase server and the odbc.ini maintenance problem then goes away. The catch is that the connection information is then embedded in the rules file meaning that we have to update same whenever they are moved between environments (e.g. dev to test) and whenever an environment's connection details change. I tried using substitution variables but these only apply to ODBC connection names. Does anyone know if there is some way to parameterise the OCI connection information?
    h5. Versions
    Essbase Release 11.1.2 (ESB11.1.2.1.102B147)
    Linux version 2.6.32.12-0.7-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.4 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 152973] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2010-05-20 11:14:20 +0200 64 bit

  • If I partitioned my drive from within a bootcamped windows volume will it destroy my GPT scheme and disable my booting ability into Mac OSx?

Alright I consider myself a fairly computer literate person but do excuse me if this issue is not actually all that interesting. Know that I would call apple care but what I am trying to do isn't exactly supported by them so they wouldn't help me. I am setting up my system to triple boot. I did the normal method as far as I can tell. I used bootcamp assistant to shrink my drive and installed windows through that. All went well. So then I had a apprx 400gb mac os volume and a 100gb windows volume. Following the advice from the mactel team over at the ubuntu help site I logged into windows via startup+option. When I did this all volumes popped up. recovery mac and windows. selected windows and then used the windows disk utility equivalent to shrink that partition in half. When I did this I check the disk manager and all was well. all volumes were there and healthy. When I restarted my computer in the boot manager window though only the recovery boot and the windows boot showed up. After doing a little research I figured that the error was negligible and that I could fix it easily enough later so I proceeded to then format the free space volume into an ntfs for the ubuntu setup. When I did that and restarted only the windows boot shows up in the boot menu. When I look through disk manager all of the partitions are where they should be and healthy. The only real clue I've found is that when inside of bootcamp control panel instead of the different volumes showing up as they are normally supposed to it gives me the option of startup from the windows volume the ntfs volume and a pseudo volume that doesnt physically exist that serves the purpose of windows recovery. This makes me think something went wrong with bootcamp. I would rEFIt it and try to see if theres some magic I could work in there but I can't install that program on windows. Additionally I found out that theres some talk that ssd can only handle two bootable partitions and that perhaps when I added a partition it shifted priority to volumes 2 and 3 instead of 1 and 2. I've tried all of the bootup tricks i know and some I looked up. the only one that still works is the boot manager window. The rest just do nothing and then go straight to windows which makes me thing if something happened with bootcamp that all the very low level osx to setup and then run windows on top of that- that now the operation isn't running as planned and windows is actually touching the hardware thus subverting any attempts to use low level osx tricks to get around it. Anyway those are the facts and my thoughts.
Having done more research than when I originally wrote ^^ I now realize that the entire reason for bootcamp (sans driver issues) is to deal with the difference between  the use of GPT and MBR. I am now pretty sure that rewriting any part of the drive from software that uses MBR will mess up the partition scheme of the entire drive. Additionally I've seen a few things about ssd's being weird when they have too many partitions on them. And lastly I have an iso image of my computer right before I started tinkering so if anything I can factory reset and voila(I don't feel like pulling up a french keyboard).
picture from disk manager in windows

I actually managed to get the setup running and relatively stable. There were alot of random issues and quite honestly I was fixing my computer more often that I was using it so I backed out. If anyone wants to do this like I did I would say: It's not easy and definitely not for someone who doesn't know anything about the differences between operating systems and partitioning schemes. That being said I didn't know nearly enough and if you're careful its possible. The steps however aer pretty simple.
Before doing anything get a third party boot handle up and stable on your machine.
    1. Create a partition for Windows
    2. Create a partition for Linux
    3. Bootcamp Windows. This step can be tricky with the extra partition because bootcamp tries to handle all of it for you so it may benefit some people to bootcamp first and then create a linux partition. But that comes with its own set of issues.
    4. Run Linux setup from inside of osX NOT windows.
There are a hundred steps that could come between each of those and I neither have the expertise nor the balls to empower someone who needs to read a forum post how to do it. But it really wasn't more conceptually complicated than that.
Now on to the new issue. I was getting .NET framework incompatibilities and the whole reason I wanted the windows setup was to game so I deleted that partition. When I did that everything went back to normal EXCEPT somewhere somehow the windows boot manager is still buried and when I boot up it tries to boot into windows which obviously doesnt exist anymore. Any advise on how to get rid of this?
to make things clear I'm now running "single" partition.
