Essbase outline locked running Financial Report

Ok, this is a wierd one. We have experienced the Essbase outline getting locked by the user running a Hyperion Financial Report using HFR 9.3.1.0 and Essbase 9.3.1.3.5. The user is an admin, however the outline should not get locked - should it?
I searched for anything similar, but couldn't find anything and was wondering if anyone else has seen this?

We walked through each step checking for a lock on the outline and was not able to reproduce at all. This is what I did and had the other user do again:
1) make a new database connection - no lock
2) made a copy and changed an existing report to use the new connection - no lock
3) create a batch for the report - no lock
4) schedule the batch, which the first time forces a login for workspace and essbase - no lock
4) select a busrsting member list - no lock
5) run the batch - no lock
Also asked if anyone edited a report using the id and no one had. I also edited a report and tried several different modifications and could not force it to lock the outline.
Still a mystery, this has happened before and we unlocked and moved on. Same today, the user was still in workspace (or might have been timed out) after submitting the reports earlier today and the outline was still locked after the reports completed.
The only time the outline "should" be locked is when editing via EAS or dimension builds/restructures right? Things haven't changed much in the last 17 years of my using Essbase and this client does not do any fancy API or spreadsheet Add-in work.

Wrror while running financial report in workspace

I am able to open the report layout in FR studio from my local system but cant do the same in FR report server getting an error "Failed to Connect to the server".

Essbase connection - POV in Financial Reporting prompts missing

Hi,
I'm connecting to Essbase using Financial Reporting, this report has 3 POV's. When I go to Workspace and run that report, I only see one POV. When log in as someone else, I see the 3 POV's expected. Does anyone ever encountered this? Does anyone know how to fix this?

I had a similiar problem, but really not sure how close it is compared to yours.
My issue was, for a old report,I had 3 "user point of view" dimensions set up, but when I ran them on workspace, I had none of the user POV prompts coming up for selection. I identified that, the user point of view isn't working or not recognized by the report. so below is what i did to get them to work.
1. Navigated to "Dimension Layout" and moved the "user point of view" dimensions to "Pages". Saved it.
2.Then again reverted back the same dimension back to "user point of view" dimension.[Just did this to get rid of the report memory having the user point of view dimensions]
3.Unchecked Grid point of view [Incase if it is checked]
4.Navigated to Task->User Point of View, and for the 3 dimensions in the user point of view, select "Member from List" and for each dimension give more than one selection[ :) ], like sample below.
Dimension: report viewers may select Choices List
Hsp_Audits A Member from List Hsp_Rate_InputValue, Hsp_Rate_USD
Save the report, Try running the report from Workspace. This way i got all my user point of view prompts while running them in workspace.

How do I create a GL responsibility to access multiple ledgers (error trying to run Financial report submission)

I created a new GL responsibility and used the same menu as an existing one but created a new data access set that has all the ledgers in it that we want to access.
I left the following profile options with no value. The reason being is this responsibility should not be tied to any org/ledger.
MO: Operating Unit
GL Ledger ID
GL Ledger Name
This all seems to be working fine except when the users try to access Financial Report Submission. The error that appears when trying to choose a ledger when running the report.
Error: Stale Data
The requested page contains stale data. This error could have been caused through the use of the browser's navigation buttons (the browser Back button, for example).
I have cleared the browser cache and cache was cleared by functional administrator. In this case it really doesn't seem to be anything to do with the browser's back button being used (I didn't use it) since I can make this error go away by setting the value for GL Ledger Name. But that is not what the users want since that will restrict them to a specific ledger but they should be able to run the report for any ledger.

Workspace Error Running Financial Reports Post HFM Metadata Change

We recently updated the metadata in HFM to use the Custom4 dimention. We are now trying to run reports from Workspace and get an error 5200 - error executing query. I have confirmed that the database connection in Workspace is ok. I am able to run the reports from the Financial Reporting Studio. Any ideas what's wrong when running from Workspace?

That error means that the report is trying to retrieve data from a member that either does not exist or is not valid. I have seen it happen when the user POV chooses [Year] for period.
I would start by trying to get the report to run from Report Studio where you can control the POV settings. If you still get the error, you will need to go through every data point in the report and verify that each member exists.

User Missing Export Menu After Running Financial Report

I've got a user who has run a financial report in Workspace and wants to export it to Excel. Most of my users have the File-->Export-->Excel-->Fully Formatted Grids and Text option available, but this user does not. He appears to have all the same security settings as everyone else. Does anyone know what controls this capabilty and what is causing this user to not be able to see the Export menu? Any help would be appreciated.

It could be a different version of IE. Is he/she has the same version of IE with the other users? I would also check his/her preferences and make sure he can export to Office 2002 and higher. I assume the version of the office you are using is newer than 2000.
To see/change the preferences, login to Workspace > Explpre > File > Preferences > Financial Reporting > General

Can I submit one process to run many Financial Reports at once?

I've been asked by one of our HFM customers, about ways to submit 50 FR reports by one command. Best of the process can also be schedulled.
There is a function called “Batch Reports for Scheduling”. This function can run and refresh a report (built with Financial Reporting) and create a pdf file into a specified target folder.
The problem with it, is that each report is schedule by a seperate “Batch Reports for Scheduling” function. Since the customer has lots of reports (more than 50), they need to submit them one by one, specify for each one it's parameters values (Year and Period) so it's a time consuming process.
The customer would like to find an option that will simplify the process by doing all refresh at the same time.
We are looking for a command line that we could use by a batch (by using .bat for example). We need those commands:
1. Connect to HFM
2. Launch “Batched Reports for Scheduling” with right parameter
3. Disconnect to HFM
I'd appreciate any idea that would help.

Hi Yoram
There is a command line utility that you can use to run Financial Reporting batches. It is called ScheduleBatch.cmd and can be found in the 'bin' directory under BIPlus (I can't be more specific as it depends which version of FR you are running).
Take a look at the help attached in the section Scheduler Command Line Interface under the Administrative Tasks for Financial Reporting

These notes are labelled as v11 but this section equally applies to v9.3.1
I have not used this with HFM but I have uses a windows .bat file to launch multiple FR batches using this feature (against Essbase) and deliver reports to users out of working hours so that they are in their email inbox when they arrive at work.

Error run-time 429 ActiveX can't create the object Financial Reporting

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to run Financial Reporting 9.3.1 on my pc with Winodws Vista but as I launch the exe it shows me an error message:
Error run-time 429 ActiveX can't create the object
I know it works out with XP. Is there a problem with Vista? How can I fix it?

I cannot say this IS your problem, but some oddities I ran into installing the report client on my laptop in my current environment ....
#1 - Even though you type in your username and password in the Reports login box, it apparently uses the credentials of the logged on user.
#2 - The machine MUST be on the domain that is used for authentication or it flat out won't work (see item #1)
#3 - I ran into the ActiveX error once and apparently something did not register properly during the install. To fix it :
Run the batch file : %HYPERION_HOME%\BIPlus\install\bin\HRRunAnt.cmd
Where %HYPERION_HOME% is the main hyperion folder. (i.e. c:\hyperion )
After the script executes, reboot your machine. You MUST reboot.

HTTP Status 500 message when attempting to open Financial Report.

In a new 9.3.1 installation (BI, Essbase, HFM, Planning) I am unable to run Financial Reports in Workspace. As a test, I have created a simple report, using Studio, which has only boilerplate text - no grids or anything else that requires a DB connection. The report previews fine from the Studio client but when I attempt an HTML preview or when I attempt to run the report from within Workspace, I receive an HTTP Status 500 error in the right panel in Workspace. Below is the text of the error. I am using IIS 6 with Tomcat. My troubleshooting effort have been around IIS and BI configuration. I am able to open Web Analysis documents without any trouble. Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated.

Did you try any of the following:
1.) Delete Tomcat cache with the following steps
Stop Tomcat.
Remove the folders from <Tomcat\work\Catalina\localhost> directory.
Start Tomcat. (it will delay a few minutes)
The cache will be recreated automatically.
2.) Redeploy Explorer application with wdeploy tool (Location: <install_dir>\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\wdeploy)

Financial Reports Issue

Hi,
When I am trying to run Financial Reports in workspace getting the following erroer.
*5200: Error executing query: Java.lang.ArithmeticException: / by zerojava.lang.ArithmeticExceptoion*.
the issue with the only Planning reports. Consolidation reports are working fine.
I am not sure it is issue with database as last week oracle database got corrupted & fixed by client.
The next day onwards Planning Reports are not working.

I'm actually facing the same issue with a report on a Planning datasource. It's quite strange because just one user has this problem and I can't find any specificity on this user, correct group, correct options, correct provisions, etc.
I'll try to change the data source to an Essbase datasource... even if I'd like to stay on the Planning datasource.
Any idea on this issue?

Financial Reports member addition

I have a financial report created based on an essbase cube which has five members NY, CA, DE, MN, and CO. Because these are the members I had these are the members that I see in the Financial reports page. However, now I have just added a member called NJ which is a sibling of these members mentioned above. Now, I want this member also to be included in Financial report. Does it automatically get transfer as these are all the children of a member called STATE? OR do i need to manually add it. What is the way of doing it. Any suggestion would help.

I added the member in essbase cube, and now I can see it in Financial reporting. I have tried to open the related reports in workspace as we create batches to run some of the reports, however, the numbers corresponding to the newly added member does not seem correct. They do not add and something like that What could be the reason. Do i need to wait a while or is there anything else I need to do in Essbase or Planning or Financial reporting studio? Some reports are from one database while others are from a different database. So any advise or help is appreciated.

Access is denied error when launching HFM based Financial Reports

When attempting to run Financial Reports where the data source is an HFM application, users sometimes get the following error(s):
Access is denied

Sometimes the error is more detailed:
1001:datasourcename=HOLX;errorMsg=Access is Denied. <BR>Access is denied. (The more detailed error is followed by references to POV members display names and member names, etc.)
The error is intermittent and cannot be easily reproduced. Sometimes users get it for hours at a time, other times they can log out and log back in and run the report fine. The users are running the reports via Workspace.
We are running the following versions, and Web Logic is our application server.
HFM Server: 9.3.1.3
Workspace: 9.3.1.0
Financial Reports: 9.3.1.0
I did increased the JVM heap size allocation on the Reports server from:
-Xms512m
-Xmx1024m
to
-Xms768m
-Xmx1280m
That setting change appears to have made the issue not appear as frequently, but it is still occurring. I may have bandwidth to increase the heap size limits to 1024 and 1536.
Any advice and / or help would be appreciated! The fact that I cannot easily reproduce the error and the lack of references to it in the application logs are making it very frustrating!

We had gotten this exact same error with some users getting it, some not getting it, and other users getting it sometimes.
We were told it happened when a certain number of users are in HFM reports at the same time.
To fix it you need to do the following on the HFM production servers (Foundation/Core Servers, Application Servers, and Web Servers)
Apply registry changes to prod servers:
On the server click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Rpc
Click the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type Server2003NegotiateDisable as the name of the new DWORD Value
Right-click Server2003NegotiateDisable, and then click Modify.
In the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.

Financial Reporting Studio and Windows 7

Anyone running Financial Reporting Studio 9.3.1 or a similar version on Windows 7? When I try to open a report I'm receiving an error: "Error connecting to database connection <database name>.

The user (myself) does have access to the database since I can access from an XP and/ or 2003 server machine. I think it's related to Windows 7.

Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3 installation problem

Dear all,
i'm not able to run Financial Reporting Studio 11.1.1.3 on my laptop after a fresh installation.
I don't reach the splah screen due to this error: "Run-Time error '429' ActiveX component can't create object".
Any idea how to manage this problem? Maybe some batch to run or properties file to change?
My OS laptop is a common Win XP Professional Edition.
