Essbase plus license and Excel Add-In

Hi,
Can we perform lock and Send using Excel Add-In to Planning cubes(BSO cubes) if we have only Essbase Plus license?

Let me re-phrase the question. If I have Planning plus license for less number of users(e.g. X) compared to Essbase plus license users (e.g. Y) and all Y number of users want to use Excel add-in for lock and sned will there be any issue?

donno if this is the right place for this thread, I thought planning experts are experienced with both smartview and excel add-ins
what is the protocol used behind the scene in both ways (HTTP, RMI, TCO/IP) and which one takes less resources and works faster
to serve better interms of performance while connected to essbase? that I know we add URL for conneceting to essbase thru aps for a
smartview essbase connection and we directly connect to essbase in essbase excel add-in connection.

I think Essbase Excel add-in connects through TCP/IP whereas Smartview connects via web services (http).
Excel add-in should be faster as it speaks directly with Essbase as opposed to Smartview which connects Essbase through another service (APS). But Smartview comes with its own advantages (i.e. better integration, smoother user experience etc.)

Can some one tell me where I can find Essbase 11.1.1 Excel Add-in client to download.

Do you mean how to configure Essbase Add-In in excel??
If it is same then no need to download anything.
-->In Excel, select Tools > Add-Ins.
-->In Add-ins, click Browse. Excel displays the Browse dialog box.
-->Locate essexcln.xll(Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin) and select it.

Essbase and Excel Add-in Migration from 6.5 to 11.1.2.1

Essbase and excel 6.5 Wanted to Upgrade to 11.1.2.1
since there only essbase we just need to install 11.12.1 essbase and copy the otl files and series of steps
but how to upgrade the Excel addin 6.5 to 11.1.2.1

If you are doing a clean upgrade then all you'll need to do is uninstall the excel add-in from 6.5 and then reinstall the 11.1.2.1 version of excel add-in.

Essbase 9.3.1 Excel Add-in not compatible with Office 2010?

I installed Essbase 9.3.1. I realized that Excel Add-in is not compatible with Office 2010?
Any work around?
I do not want to remove office 2010 and go back to office 2007.

Essbase 6.5.7 Excel Add-In in Excel 2003

Hi all, We just upgraded our Essbase Analytics server from 6.5.3 to 6.5.7 as this new version supports also Excel 2003. One of our users has installed the new version of the Excel Add-In, but apparently the Essbase menu item does not appear in Excel!! When starting up Excel, the Essbase splah screen appears and double-clicking the Excel sheet makes it possible to connect to the OLAP server. It seems to be a problem in Excel 2003. Does anyone know how to solve this annoying problem? Regards, Olivier

I have users using 6.5.4 with excel 2003 with no problem.Did you check if "Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server DLL"and "Hyperion Essbase Query Designer Addin" options arecheck in your addins for excel? If not, try to do a find in theknowledge base. If I remember correctly, this is solved by creatinga dummy registry key in windows registry set in a specific folder.If you do a search in the forumn, you should be able to find thespecific path as to where the dummy key needs to be created.HTH

Essbase smartview retrival versus excel add in

Hi all,
I have some performance issues with smartview. I am running a simple querry through smartview having one attribute dimension on the excel sheet, it runs for couple of minutes and throws me a time out error.
I tried the same querry using excel addin for essbase and it comes back in a second. I noticed the huge difference between these two.
Are there any configuration setting specific to essbase or provider services other than net retry count or net delay to improve the performance.

In our experience, we don't see a significant difference between embedded mode (a/k/a direct connections) and APS mode connections.. In Dodeca, we are seeing retrieval speeds exceeding the classic add-in. Further, one of my friends that I saw at Kscope, who has written some custom Essbase Grid API functionality for his company, confirmed that he is seeing faster than classic add-in speeds as well.
Note: Smart View retrieves are not as fast as the classic add-in, particularly when the retrieves are large. The Smart View team is aware of the issue which is caused, in part, by the XML format and the associated processing.

Essbase 9.3.1 Excel Add-In Installation Error

Hello Expects,
I am facing the issues with Essbase Excel Addin(version 9.3.1) while installing and error is the below.
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:run
Exception in thread "main"
Even I have admin rights to the system and I have extracted all files to the same root directory, also there are no spaces in the install path of local drive.
Please respond and help on the above error, if anyone knows.

Excel Add-in issue!

Hi,
we are using essbase 7.x and excel 2003. The issue is that when we open the excel add-in with the
application, it going to sheet2 instead of sheet1 by default. and moreover we are trying to have only 3 sheets when we open excel. It is displaying 15 sheets.
Is there any setting that needs to be taken care as part of Excel for Essbase?

The 15 sheet issue can potentially be caused by an excel option, unrelated to essbase.
To change the setting, go to the Tools/Options menu. On the Options dialog select the General tab and you should see a setting for "Sheets in new workbook" about half-way down. The default is 3, but if this were changed to 15, new workbooks would always begin with 15 tabs.
As for the Sheet2 default, once a workbook is saved, the default tab is the tab that was active when the workbook is saved.
However, macros can always cause either of the two conditions above to be reset/modified. If that is happening, find the offending application and hit it with a hammer. I'm kidding here, of course -- it needs a screw driver.

I have a user who is getting the following error:
Excel experienced a serious problem with the 'c:\oracle\middleware\epmsystem11r1\products\exceladdin\bin\essexcin.xll" add-in. . . .Do you want to disable this add-in?
Do we need to reinstall the Essbase add-in ?
I have had the user disable other add-ins via 'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins and that didn't resolve the problem.
Are there any compatibility issues with 64 bit Excel?
Also, after installing Essbase add-in, what are the items that should appear

Oracle Essbase Query Designer Addin.
Could you please kindly help me understand the difference?

Essbase Add-in and Excel 2010

Hi All,
I have a user who has just had Windows 7 and excel 2010 installed and is able to connect to Essbase through the add-in but when he tries to retrieve data it completely crashes his excel which shuts down immediately.
As far as I have read the add-in does not support 2010 64-bit but I have win7 and excel 2010 and do not have the same problem and I am to retrieve data with no issues. We both have the 32-bit version of 2010 so I'm not sure why his excel is shutting down.
We are on 11.1.1.3 of Essbase
Any pointers or experiences you can give are appreciated

Essbase Excel Add-In (11.1.2.1) and Office 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Essbase Excel Add-In (v11.1.2.1) is compatible in Office 2010 (64-bit)?
I found some search results from about 6-8 months ago saying that it was supported in Office 2010, but not in the 64-bit edition. Does anyone know if this has changed and if this is in fact supported?
If not supported has it been tested to at least work?

Installing Essbase 11.1.1.2 Excel Add In (Client) and EAS on remote laptop

Hi,
Just got done installing Essbase 11.1.1.2 on a single Win 2003 server. Everything is installed EAS and Essbase Client. However, I need the Essbase Client to be ported to many users that are running Excel 2003. Also, i need EAS client to run from a laptop as instead of having to remote login to the server. My question is do I go through the same install process as I did for Essbase server? Or is there a smoother less complicated way to install. I think for the EAS client, it's ok but trying to roll the Excel Add In to hundreds of users, this could get messy.

Systems management software like Microsoft SMS, Landesk or Radia should be able to help you to deploy software to many PC.
You can ask your IT whether they have this in place.
Otherwise, you can consider to use Smartview instead of Essbase Add-Ins, Smartview allow you to deploy the software to many PC and future upgrades.

Installing Essbase Excel Add-in on 11.1.2 and Excel 2007

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has had any success installing the excel add-in (essexcln.xll) on Office 2007 and 11.1.2? I've been trying over the weekend, so that I can start using the vba api with essbase and I'm having no luck. I've tried the essexcln.xll at (installed drive)\oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\essbase\bin and I'm getting a "file is in a different format than specified by the file extension" message box, and a whole spreadsheet of random characters.
I've also tried installing the add-in through the patch created for 11.1.1.3. The add-in works, but if I try to use the API to open an outline, I get an "outline too new" error.
Anyone have any hints?

Thanks for the help. So I've tried installing the add-in both on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, and I'm still getting the "The file you are trying to open, 'essexcln.xll', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?" message box. I've tried running excel as an administrator, then adding the add-in through excel's add-in menu.
When I open the file, the first line of the sheet says: This program cannot be run in dos mode.
Also, both servers are 64-bit. I'm unsure if this could affect the add-in working.
