  • Essbase Outline Member

    Hello,
I have an issue with moving outline members from unplaced members and restructuring. All new members from daily loads come under unplaced member area, its Unplaced Account, Unplaced Cost Centers or Unplaced Channels. Unplaced member is stored member, when I moved these members data does not tie out.
What is the best strategy to move these members if member is from dense dimension or sparse and how members properties impact on these changes, if I move child of stored member or Dynamic Calc member.
Please reply me if my question does not make sense. We are using version 7.1.6
    Thank you,
    T.Khan

    Hi,
If you move a member then the data probably needs to be aggregated again.
[Here |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1014181&tstart=15] is a similiar post from the other day.
Here is some information around restructures when saving after moving a member.
Dense restructure: If a member of a dense dimension is moved, deleted, or added, Essbase restructures the blocks in the data files and creates new data files. When Essbase restructures the data blocks, it regenerates the index automatically so that index entries point to the new data blocks. Empty blocks are not removed. Essbase marks all restructured blocks as dirty, so after a dense restructure you must recalculate the database. Dense restructuring, the most time-consuming of the restructures, can take a long time to complete for large databases.
Sparse restructure: If a member of a sparse dimension is moved, deleted, or added, Essbase restructures the index and creates new index files. Restructuring the index is relatively fast; the time required depends on the index size.
Outline-only restructure: If a change affects only the database outline, Essbase does not restructure the index or data files. Member name changes, creation of aliases, and dynamic calculation formula changes are examples of changes that affect only the database outline.
    Cheers

  • Essbase and iSeries data record locks

    Hello,
I was wondering if there are any known issues with using Essbase 7.1 on iSeries where data can only be updated one at a time. Essentially the equivalent to MSAS's record locks where when one person is creating a new table or adding entries to one, it is locked for all other users.
If this is a known limitation, what would be required to unlock it? eg. new version of Essbase?
    Thanks everyone.

Is it true that if someone opens the outline to make changes then the outline will be locked.^^^I just opened the outline of my Very Favorite Essbase Database In The Whole Wide World (Sample.Basic) in EAS and then went into Excel and was able to change a data value. A locked outline does not prevent users from changing data.
Users can’t update the cube when someone else is editing it?^^^The outline lock is exclusive, i.e., only one process can have the outline locked.
Or are you talking about the actual writing of the outline/updates through load rules and the concomitant restructure (dense/sparse/outline)?
    Per the DBAG:
You cannot build dimensions while other users are reading or writing to the database. After you build dimensions, Essbase restructures the outline and locks the database for the duration of the restructure operation.See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/frameset.htm?ddlintro.html#ddlintro1029815

  • Use of 32 bit setup files of EPMA  11.1.2 to install on windows 7

    Hi All Experts,
I need guideline to download the Hyperion EPMA 11.1.2 , from which link I could download and can I use 32 bit setup files to install on 64 bit WINDOWS7.
is it compatible and possible to have Essbase,HFM,FDM HFR tool properly with 64 bit windows 7 for 32 bit setup files of 11.1.2.
    Please share your valuable suggestions.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks John,
one more thing I want to know about installation can I install Hyperion 11.1.2 on XP , as my intel motherboards LAN device and driver is not supported for server 2003/2008 OS and intel recommended to use WIN7/XP os only, I need Essbase only so which files to be download and also can I install it on XP machine,
I tried for 11.1.3 last year and it worked for essbase (less components of hyperion), just thinking out of certification matrix.
If practically possible let me know.

  • How to kill EPMA Deployment

    Hi,
I have EPMA 11.1.1.3 and after making some changes in account and location dimensions i started deploying the app.It was initialed at around 6pm..i informed by client that it usaully takes aroung 6 and half hours to complete the deployment but after 8 hours i checked the Job its still it was going on and it might have hung up at 6%..Main thing all the changes have been reflectd in Hyperion Planning...So my question is how to kill this job running on?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pranav

So my question is how to kill this job running on?^^^I thought I was going to hear "Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" EPMA can be Alien-like.
it usaully takes aroung 6 and half hours to complete the deployment but after 8 hours ^^^Really? That's amazing. I suspect you are forcing a dense restructure this time so that might be part of the issue. Has the Essbase restructure happened yet?
I would be unbelievably suspicious/completely unaccepting of any metadata build that took 6 hours. There has to be a better way.

  • Essvbase Drill down

Is it possible to drill down to Relational databases from Essbase hierarchy instead of navigation?
I have an Essbase dimension called "Time" that is spread accross four generations. The last generation Gen4 is month. I have the day details in the Fact table.
I established relationship between essbase and relational in LTS and i am able to navigate from essbase to realational sources. But is there a way to Drill down instead of navigation?? Can i make use of the Essbase hierarchy to drill down to realational fact details from Gen-4(It is the lowest level in essbase time dimension)??
    Please advice....

  • Essbase clear script is triggered 32 times from FDM

    Hi All,
I've created a simple clear script in the load action of the Essbase adapter in FDM.
When loading a short file the clear script runs very fast and no problems occurs.
When loading a long file (multiload 12 periods, 10.000 rows) the validation alone takes already 4 minutes. But the problem is that the clear script is triggered 32 times.
Every time exactly the same script (so it only cleares data the first time) but every time takes a few seconds..
Anybody a clue why this is happening and how i can solve this?
I'm thinking of triggering the clear script from an event script but not sure which one.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marc

    Marc,
This is by design. As the FDM Essbase Adapter requires customizations to mirror/match the Essbase Application.
Importantly is the clear scripts that it executes.
Without the appropriate changes to the adapter, it will appear* to execute the same script multiple times. But when in-fact if the customizations were done correctly, you would see slight differences each time.
By default, it will clear based on the combinations of Period and Entity.
So if your file had 12 periods, and 3 unique Entities, it would do 36 clear statements.
I would suggest you review your customization for accuracy.
    Hopefully this helps...

  • Essbase Data Clears Off After Restructure

    Hello,
When I am doing the Dimension Update in ASO Cube , the Data file is getting cleared off even while I select Retain all Data when Structured . I have done Restructuring Number of times and I have never faced this Issue . Can anyone let me know whats happening here . Its pretty crucial !
    Thanks !!

Checking the properties tells you for certain...  ...you could have lost some data, you could have broken a formula, etc.
Surprisingly, deleting a dimension and re-adding it does actually work, providing that the dimension has the same name before and after.  But in any case, if you do something that Essbase knows is going to clear the data you get a message after saving that says "In order to restructure, all data must be cleared", even though you have selected "Retain all data".  Any chance you got that and clicked through (it's easily done )
Possibilities for 'silent' data loss are that you have made previously level-zero members level-one or above, deleted the level-zero members that contained data (obviously) and / or changed the names of level-zero members.

  • Slow restructure on Essbase 11 (ASO)

    Hello, Essbase experts.
I'm ramping up on Essbase knowledge, but I'm still closer to the beginning than the end, so if this is a basic question, I apologize.
We have a MAXL script we use to load an ASO database, and the dim-build/restructuring part of this process is taking quite a bit longer than it did on our 6.5 Server. The MAXL command we're using for 11 is:
    import database 'P&L'.'P&L' dimensions
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim1',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim2',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim3',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim4',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim5',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim6',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim7',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim8',
connect as 'dts_admin' identified by 'domino1' using server rules_file 'DB_Dim9'
    on error append to 'D:\esscontrol_DIM_P&L_All.err'
Most of the dimensions are small (10 - 1000 members), but a couple are larger (200k-300k rows). I can see from the result text that restructure portion itself is taking over 4.5 minutes:
    OK/INFO - 1007067 - Total Restructure Elapsed Time : [264.733] seconds.
At the moment we do the restructure, there is no data in the database. Based on our experience with 6.5, we assumed that restructure of an empty database would be either unnecessary, or very quick, but that is not the case with 11.
While the restructuring is in progress, attempts to access the Essbase via the Excel Add-in appear to be blocked. I've read that restructuring in 11 is not single-threaded, but I sure seems that way, based on the way the add-in reacts.
Any information or direction would be appreciated.

Cameron, thanks for the assistance. No, we're not working with Angie Wilcox, but I'm glad to know we're not alone with this issue.
We initially looked into suppressing verification, but had the same findings (doesn't work with SQL dim loads). We used http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12032_01/doc/epm.921/html_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/imp_dims.htm as a reference for that one.
We used to run each dim build as a separate statement, but found that the restructuring after every dim build slowed the whole process down considerable. However, with individual dim builds, we noticed that restructuring slowed down after we had loaded one of our bigger dimensions, so it seems the number of members in the database has a direct correlation to the restructuring performance (even when empty).
Something I forgot to mention in the first post...the same process seems to run much quicker on our development server than or production server. Same dimensions, same data, same Essbase version. I don't know the exact specs of those servers, but i know our production server is supposedly newer and faster (16 cores, tons of RAM, etc). However, the production server is on a SAN, and I wonder if that might be the issue.
Is the restructuring process I/O intensive?

  • Need Sample for Essbase Triggers

I would like to set up some Essbase triggers on a database (when a value for a particular member is not #Missing, I'd like an email sent to me). I have looked through alot of documentation and in all honesty, it leaves alot to be desired.
I'm setting this up in EAS and was just looking for some examples of what to fill in on each screen. I am getting error messages "bad trigger definition" which doesn't really help me to determine what the error exactly is.
Also, if I choose to spool to a log file, I can't determine where this log file will be exactly.

You must be referring to Glenn's unique sense of punning. Imagine working side by side...
FWIW, I believe I tested each and every one of those examples -- they're real and they work.

  • Procedure to connect to HFR with Essbase.

    Guys,
I have a few questions regarding connecting HFR to an Essbase App. The question seems silly, but this is something different than normal configuration.
We have Essbase 9x & HFR installed in one environment and configured without any issues as Instance 1. Now we have HFR installed in different environment/instance which needs to connect to an Essbase application of instance 1.
I have the following steps in mind. Please guide me with your inputs, if i missed anything.
    1. Open the ports 1423, 32xxx-32xxx between the Instance2 HFR & Instance1 Essbase
    2. Add Instance2 of HFR with Shared Services Instance1 and provision the users for the App. (Any idea on how to add this Shared Services & what ports to open??)
    3. Connect to the App using Workspace of Instance2
    Cheers,
    mikki

You are jumping too many hoops for a simpler solution.
I am not sure about ports because it depends on your configuration. I would be surprised if you need to do this for internal communication on the same network. Once you have this figured out, you can just connect FR from your 'instance2' to Essbase in 'instance1' by simply creating a essbase database connection that points to instance1 server instead of instance2 server. Once you dont need instance1 essbase server, then you can just change database connection for report/s to a connection pointing instance2.

  • Script to do restructures into Essbase's databases

    Hi All,
Can anyone help me the process of creating a script to do restructures into Essbase's databases with steps ?

  • FDM and HFR for Essbase ??

    Guys,
We have a requirement to report chart of accounts, etc through Essbase from Oracle ERP and I want to validate the following
    1) Can we use FDM/ODI and connect to Essbase from ERP for building cubes and loading data?
    2) Can we use HFR to connect to Essbase cubes for reports?

For question 1 it may be worth having a read of the ERPi doc to see what it is capable of - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/erpi_admin/launch.html
Depending on your system ERPi may be able to do what you are looking for -
"ERP Integrator supports loading data into EPM applications from general ledger source systems and also writing back budget data from target EPM Planning applications to general ledger source systems.
    • Loading data from the General Ledger Source System - ERP Integrator supports loading data from general ledger source systems. ERP Integrator can load both metadata (dimension members and hierarchies) from the ERP source system as well as the related data."
There are other possibilities like loading data into FDM and pushing into essbase or not even using FDM, metadata would have to be built another way e.g. load rules, ODI.
Second question the answer is Yes.
    Cheers

  • Essbase Triggers

    Hi,
    1) Please let me know the utility of Essbase trigger with respect to real time business requirement.
    2) Can we write a trigger without "WHERE" and "WHEN" conditions ?
    3) I want to write a trigger on a database that executes every time when a new data load happens. So what should I write in where and when condition so that the condition meets every time when a data load happens ?

    Hi John,
I have Picked up the SMPT srerver details from the Outlook->Tools->options->Mail setup->E-mail Account->Exchange server settings. The same has been copied in the EAS server-> properties ->Configuration->E-mail Server -SMTP Server.
Now when i careate a tigger through EAS console The STMP Details are being picked up from the EAS settings what i mentioned above.
I also checked the JVM ( Java virtula machine) is installed on the windows server where the Essbase is installed. once confirming all settings and sucessfully creating the tigger.
Now when i do a dala load or calculation on the cube. The trigger is not getting called. also i checcked in the essbase log files for the app CubeStat but could not find any message on tiggers execpt the logs which got creatd while creating the triggers.
