Essbase security sync issue with Shared Services v 11.1.2.2

Hi,
We are using Essbase version 11.1.2 (ESB11.1.2.2.102B025) and shared services version 11.1.2.2.300.6001 (Drop 6)
Foundation Services is on a cluster evironment, windows 2008 64 bit.
Essbase is on Unix Sun Solaris.
We encounter an issue in which each time a new user is added to a group.
The user will not have immediate access to Essbas. Currently the only time the
user will have access is when we restart essbase.
Is there a way to sync users from Shared Services without restarting Essbase?
Anyone has experience on this problem and may know what and where to look?
This is the error the user get, even though the group has access to essbase cube and the user
has been added to the group.

There is no issue if we provision the user directly to the cube, e.g. without using group.

You shouldn't have to restart Essbase as it should automatically sync, there may be additional information in SharedServices_Security_Client.log though it is probably worth logging with Oracle.

    Ah, the sweet mysteries of Essbase/Shared Services.
    Okay, the easy one first:
    Should something appear in HSS just by registering or do you have to "externalize users"?You do have to externalize users from the security node in EAS for Essbase to show up in Shared Services. This is a one way street, i.e., it cannot be undone, except by stopping Essbase and restoring your pre-externalized essbase.sec file. Obviously this is not a particularly good approach. :) You could also stop Essbase and delete essbase.sec altogether but again, an even worse approach.
    Still pretty easy:
    What would you expect to see appear in Shared Services when you register an Essbase server? I seem to get random results: sometimes something called Analytic Servers:<hostname>That's what I usually see (I am not an installer, just enough to be dangerous). It usually takes the form of Analytic Server:hostname:n where n is a counter as SS can handle more than one Essbase server. BTW, I may have that string wrong -- I'm not in front of a SS-enabled Essbase right now but what you describe sounds right.

    How do I "unregister" an Essbase server from HSS? It is designed to be a one time thing. Really, I think the only reason they keep unexternalized Essbase is so we consultants can run it on our laptops without pulling all of our hair out when SS/OpenLDAP throws a fit when the laptop gets put into standby mode. :) In a real server environment, I don't see a lot of value in not externalizing as going to a SS mode of security gives you a single point of administration for security, roles, etc.

  • Issue with shared services - Need Urgent Help please!!

    Hello Experts
    One of my customer has installed a new instance of oracle and copied all the schemas and data over to the new instance.
    Now when they bring up shared services, have lost all our provisioning. None of the projects are recognized by shared serices and gets the following error when we try to bring up a user
    'xxxxx' is not a recognized Shared Services project. Please contact your adminstrator
    Is there something we need to do to restore Shared Services to its original state?

    hi,
    I doubt that "creating a new instance of oracle and copied all the schemas and data over to the new instance" will register the project with shared service and thats why giving error. Because when you install shared service, it asks you about the database name (oracle in your case) to register with. So even if you overwrite that database by new instance it gives error.
    Have you tried the configuration utilty ? Over there you can provide the new database instanse as your database and configure your shared service. Remember that you need to do a complete configuration of shared service , analytic administration services and analytic services. After configuring, Restart the system.....it should work.

    I have an issue with the shared services in version 11.1.1. When i am trying to click on the Application Groups on the left pane in the console, an error message has been displayed as " A communication error has occured while loading the view pane"
    Please Help!!!

  • Security sync issue with a newly create group

    We have created some groups like A to D . in that for C we are not able to refresh the security . we have added 2 users only. later we have deleted the group and created the same. even then also we are not able to find the group or not able to do refresh from web. its telleing failed. if i check the log i found like : another child with name C already exists under parent. failed to sync with user provisions. Could you please suggest me any solution on this to resolve it.

    So you can see the MSAD group in the user management console as well as the users part of this group, right?
    Try deprovisioning the group completely, then synch native directory, refresh security from Shared Services (in AAS - Only if you have externalised your Essbase users) and run a Planning security refresh.
    In theory the refresh should complete successfully.
    If it does try reprovisioning your group.
    Are you sure you dont have another group or user called C either in your MSAD directory or in the native directory?

    Im installing Oracle EPM 11.1.1...
    I have successfully installed Foundation Services and Essbase Server/Client...
    But I'm facing two issues...
    1. I couldnt able to register any products to the Shared Services except for Essbase Server
    I tried restarting the services (1) Hyperion Foundation OpenLDAP, (2) Hyperion Foundation Shared Services - Web Application in the same order...
    2. I couldnt able to configure Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 for Essbase Administration Services...
    It shows the below error...

    Hello!
    During your first configuration of the EPM System Fusion Edition, configure the two conponents first - COMMON SETTINGS and CONFIGURE DATABASE. Never configure other components together with these two (especially Workspace). After you have configured these two, then you can rerun the configuration utility and configure the components that you left out.

  • Sync User with Shared Services

    I noticed that if I provision a user in shared services the user can not log into planning until I restart planning. Is there a way to do this without restarting planning? This also seems to happen with EPM.
    I know this happens with essbase but you can put a few commands in the essbase.cfg file and it can either sync on a time basis or when a user logs into the system.

    I am not sure what version you are using, but I will assume 9.3.1
    If so you shouldn't need to restart the planning server, once you have set them up in HSS the user should be able to log into planning, once the newly created user logs into planning the user is also created on the essbase (EAS) side as a planning user.
    If you set up a new user and then log into the planning app as an admin user, select a form and click assign access, then click add access, can you see the user in the list ?

  • Can Essbase be registered with Shared services if they both belong to different versions

    I am analyzing a situation whether Essbase can be registered with Shared services and continue to interact with other components like HFM, FR, Web Analysis, FDMEE, DRM etc, where Essbase will be of one version (possibly 11.1.1.3 or 11.1.2.3) and rest of the products will be of a different version (11.1.2.4). I would like to understand if they can coexists and interact with each other in the same landscape and the possible issues or risks associated with it.

    Based on that the 'official' answer would seem to be "no", but whether it works is another question (I don't know).

  • Essbase server not listed in Shared Services

    Installed and configured 11.1.2.3 successfully on Windows Server 2008R2.(Essbase, Planning and WebAnalysis)
    In Shared Services it is showing Shared Services, Studio and Reporting only.
    Its not showing Essbase. I just gone through essbase log and deleted essbase.sec file and again configured but no use, still its not showing. after that restarted the system also.
    I am able to login to EAS console, i can create users in essbase but not in EAS. create and disply user options are greyed out.
    Can you please let me know how to resolve this issue?

    facing the issue with shared services, after run import/export utility(it ran for long time),can't find any users/groups in shared services, only admin user is present in native dir,otherthan this user, we dont have any users/groups in ND and MSAD. can somebody help on this.

  • Performance Scorecard - unable to sync security with Shared Services

    Hi all,
    after successful installation of HPS we have provisioned users in Shared Services console for using HPS application. Now we need to sync HPS application with HSS. We have logged as "admin" to run this sync but we are missing Administration menu.
    Could anyone give us an advice how to fix it?

    Hi Amith,
    Before configuring EAS with Shared Services, please verify following:-
    1- Installaed relational database repository (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2).
    2- Create a database called hypdb in database repository.
    3- Create user called hypuser with valide password who has access on this database.
    4- Also ensure service related to database repository is running.
    Now try to configure EAS with SS. Hope it will help you.

    If we delete the Application group for Essbase how can we get back it..Is there something stored as a backup after installation and
    configuration...
    I tried to reconfigure essbase with Shared Services and it is successfull...but there was a problem with Global Analytic Application not existing
    with Shared Services during Essbase Startup...

    This is something related to the Essbase Project created in Shared Services...I think the structure in OEPM11.1.1.2 is shown as
    Application Group
    ----- Applications
    ----- Global Analytic Application (Problem is lying in this application during Essbase startup after reconfiguring with HSS)
    Suppose if we delete the project how can we get back the Essbase Project if it is already in Shared Services Security Mode..

    We were able to resolve the issue. The "Invalid Deployment Information" test in the application diagnostics failed. We had to synchronize the deployment data and later we were able to validate the application.

  • Essbase Registration With Shared Services Fails...

    Hi all,
    I have three system A, B, C in a distributive manner. A has only Oracle 11g and Essbase Server. B has Shared Services, Planning, Essbase Essbase Components, Workspace. C has EPMA, Calc Manager, Reporting Analysis. I created separate database for each components. While configuring I do the following-
    -> First on B I configured Shared Services/Common Settings with its database(1st Time). I could see the green tick.
    -> On A I configured Shared Services/Common Settings with previously configured database. I could see green tick.
    -> On A configure Essbase Server, here I get the error which shows Register with Shared Services failed.
    Examining the configtool_err.log navigate to D:\Hyperion\logs\config folder I see the following message-

    Thanks John. I was so anxious to get a response from you. See, on the machine where only Essbase Server is installed( and 11g as well), on configuration page I get two options- Hyperion Foundation and Essbase. Now Hyperion Foundation( Configure Database and Common Settings) configuration is done properly with previously configured database.
    Now in Essbase node there is Essbase and under it is Essbase Custom Configuration. when I try to configure it I get the error that Register to Shared Services failed. I could see green tick on Essbase Custom Configuration, but a red cross on Essbase.
    What needs to be done John?? Please help.
