Essbase server blinks and dissapear

i All,
I am using 9.3.1 version on windows 2003 server. Today When I tried to start my essbase server it just blinks and dissapears, and not starting. I even rebooted couple of times but turned no luck. Any body faced this problem before?? Please let me know what steps I need to take to get my essbase server up.

Thanks a lot....the essbase server pops up now and i am able to give the password after following your steps.
Before adding your steps I just tried to register the essbase server as windows service from configuration utility and it was succeded. I was even able to login to console and access my applications.
At that time i didn't have any problem with the environment variables which you have suggested. After that I stopped the service and followed your steps and started essbase server from Programs->Hyperion.......where the window pops up.
Before adding your steps I checked that there was a variable with name as below:
ARBORPATH: D:Hyperion\Analyticservices;D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1
One more thing is that I was able to start essbase from Programs-.Hypeion....... before without any problem.
Why this sudden behaviour???

I have installed 9.3.1 on windows and configured the components and registered with shared services some days before and everything was running fine.
Today when I tried to start my essbase server it simply blinks and dissappears. I haven't made essbase server as a service, and normally I used to start and enter my password. Now I am not able to login into console due to this problem. Some one Please help!!!

How do I remove previous configuration of Essbase Server from Shared Services?

Hi All,
I'm trying to reinstall Essbase Server (on a new server; we've upgraded the Essbase Server hardware) and reload data but the current install believes I've already configured it despite removing EssbaseCluster-1 from Shared Services Application Groups. Is there something else I have to do to get the new install of Essbase Server configured as a new Essbase instance?

I did the install as PTH0RC and my inventory.xml is configured correctly, but I get the following message trying to run a simple view

Essbase Server Hangs Intermittently - Urgent pls Help

Essbase Version - 9.3.3
Shared Services - 9.3.3
Enviroment - Windows Server 2003
We are in the process of migrating the users from Domain A to Domain B
There are around 15000 users across the board, out of which I assume there are around 250 users accessing the Hyperion Application.
Since the Domain Migration was started, We encountered Essbase Server freezes Intermittently.
Essbase Server goes down for about 10-15 Minutes and automatically comes back. No Error Msg in the Essbase Log.
Active Directory Migration was put on Hold because business had to complete their Month end Activities.
While we were working to find the RCA and identified that few users who were migrated from Domain A to Domain B appeared to be on Both the Domain and we figured out that it might be one of the reason for Essbase Server Hangs.
We had a Plan to Run the Update native Directory Utility to clear the Stale Data
Post Performing the Action our system was stable and didn't had system Hangs.
we also changed the shared services Cache refresh Interval to 24 Hrs in CSS.xml File ( Just to Make sure the Refresh happens Overnight)
Since the Active Directory Team had resumed their Migration Activies, we started Experiencing the System Hangs Issues again. server goes down for 5-10 min and comes back up
Please Input your Valuable Thoughts, Would Really Appreciate your Help.

Thanks for your prompt response.
As mentioned, AD team have the filters on place, There is no issues with the User Access and there was no change in password after migrating the Domain.
I have checked the Display Session through Maxl and there is No heavy sessions.
As Stated earlier, we are unable to identify the cause regarding the System Freeze. All users access the application all of sudden essbase server hangs and it doesn't allow user to retrieve the data, nor allow him to access any application within Essbase and Planning.
After 5-10 Min, server automatically comes back.
Can you tell me if there is a way to track the system Hangs through Essbase Log without getting the any inputs from the users.
Assuming if the users sessions are heavy what makes the server hang and automatically resumes without intervention.
Shared Services Security Log display the following Error, Can you tell me if you had come across any such errors before.

Can i have 2 essbase server for one EAS??????

Currently I'm working on version 11.1.2.I need some help.
Actually my question is can i have 2 essbase server(Dev and Prod) under one administrative server i.e., Localhost1(Dev) and prod as its own box i.e.,Localhost2.Here my username and password for Dev and prod are different.So while adding the prod Server .I'll uncheck the single sign on option and enter my username and password for the prod server.When i add the prod server i could not see any application under the server.My question is Do we need to have any connection between the DEv and Prod server in order to have 2 essbase servers under one EAS????

It means that EAS can't see Essbase running on the server you specified. This is either because Essbase really isn't running, the Essbase agent isn't listening on the default port (1423), the server name you have provided is wrong, or the server name can't be resolved from the EAS server's perspective.
First I'd confirming you can access the PROD Essbase server just to confirm that it's up (though since it's Prod, I guess you'd know if it wasn't running...) using e.g. MaxL, SmartView or the Excel Add-In.
Then try using the server's IP address instead of the server's name when you enter the details into EAS.
I am not great with networking so I can't give a full description, but I have also worked on sites where the PROD environment was intentionally completely cut off from the DEV / TEST environments - i.e. no TEST server can see a PROD server. Is it possible your site works that way?

I am able to use the essbase once again.What i did that i removed D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1 from the ARBORPATH.
ARBORPATH: D:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices;D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1
But i do not know if it is the right thing to do.Please suggest.

Basic understanding about Essbase Server and Administration Services

I am a newbie to the Essbase. I am trying to figure out the diference between Server and Services.I am very confused.
Please clarify my understanding
Essbase Server - This is a server in which Essbase stores all the data.
Essbase Administration Services -This is a agent used to communicate to the Essbase Server from the front end ( Admin Console)
Admin Console - This is a front end client used to connect to different Essbase Servers. It is possible to have Essbase Servers to be installed on different machines.
Before connecting to client Admin console we should make sure Essbase SErver and Essbase Administration SErvices are up and running

it not necessary that Essbase server and EAS should be on the same machine.we can add differnt servers in EAS console.
As far as your last question(Before connecting to client Admin console we should make sure Essbase SErver and Essbase Administration SErvices are up and running)

At first sight, it seemed so, so we did just that.Now, we'd like to test our setup by signing on through the ESS command line prompt (on the Deployment Server machine) but seem to miss something since the connection ("signon") is refused. The funny thing is that on the machine on which the Essbase Server is installed, we've also installed the Administration Services: through the Administration Console, we can indeed connect to the Deployment Server and interact with it.So my first question is: is our setup possible (that is, having the Deployment and Essbase servers on distinct boxes)?If so, what is the meaning of all the parameters needed for the "signon" command of the ESS command line prompt?Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,A. Yes, you can configure it that way and we have many customers with that setup.You have to login to the EDS console the first time using the 'default' admin username/password (system/password) and setup a username, with admin privileges, that also is on your Essbase server. Logout, then login with the 'real' username. Select the domain object ('essbase at the top of the tree'), right mouse click and add an analytic server. Type in the name of your Essbase server and it should be added (and you should be able to browse objects on the Essbase server). I am running Essbase on one Windows server and EAS, EDS, ESS, and EIS on another. Did you create the Analytic Server in EDS and then Sync Security?

Shared Services and Essbase Server Access Question

Hi,
It seems that we have to assign Essbase Server access at the individual username level and that groups don't work when it comes to Essbase Server Access. Is this correct or are we doing something wrong and groups do work with Essbase Server access? We are on 11.1.1.3 Essbase/Planning/Shared Services.

You can provision Essbase Server Access via groups but it must be the very first thing provisioned and pushed to Essbase. Then after that, provision your groups with other accesses such as Planning, Reports etc....

Planning and Essbase apps with same name on HSS-enabled Essbase server

I have an Essbase app "FOO" which was migrated from another Essbase server. I re-pointed an existing planning app also called "FOO" at this new server/app using the configuration setup utility. As soon as I did this, the app "FOO" disappears from the list of Essbase apps in EAS and HSS. The Essbase .sec file now has it listed as "Client Application Type: PLANNING". This is not so good as I now can't apply provisioning etc. to the Essbase app. I need to see this in both projects, as it was before - any ideas?
I tried:
* A MAXL re-register of the app but you can't as it gives "ERROR - 1051494 - Re-Registeration not allowed on planning application"
* In Planning, register the app with the HSS "Analytical Services" app but there is a bug in the GUI interface. The project name for an Essbase server always contains colon ":" characters and the GUI splits the project list on these so it's a mess and you can't select the project you need.

You can try to mount all these mount points via NFS in one additional server and then export this new tree again via NFS to all your servers.
No sure if this works. If this works, then you will have in this case just an additional level in the tree.

Any problems if run SQL Server 2005 and Essbase Server on 1 machine?

Hi, I would like to know if there's any problems in terms ofperformance when running SQL Server 2005 and Essbase Server on 1machine? Currently, my users are using Excel File (Lock & Send) toupload data to the Essbase Server and it took about 30 mins perexcel file upload. Application Manager is installed on client's andserver PC for adminstration. Now, I need to implement Datawarehouse and wish to installSQL Server 2005 on the current machine my Essbase Server isrunning. I will need to do simple SQL statements on the SQL Server2005 such as Update, Select, Insert etc. When comes to performance issues, will my current Essbase Serverbe affected? What if 2 users are accessing the Essbase Server andSQL Server at the same time? Will any data be lost in the midst ofextracting data? I hope someone can advise. Appreciate that. Thank you.

If a lock and send is taking 30 minutes, you are using the wrong technology to load Essbase. You should really consider doing the load using a data load rule. If that isn't the problem, it may be that you are having a real performance problem. If you are moving enough data to require a half hour load, it should be probably be loaded from a text file, or even a spreadsheet, using a data load rule. Text file loads are a bit better than excel, especially when there are formatting issues. Lock and sends are fine for changing parameters and doing adjustments, but heavy duty data loads really work a lot better with load rules.

The connection between ADM and Essbase Server is lost?

I can login essbase server with MaxL, excel spreadsheet, the Essbase Administration Service is started by command line and it shows running fine, But I cannot login to Essbase through ADM console, the error message is: Could not connect to the Administration Server

You really should change your architecture. I assume that your other controls also control the robot, so you will need more complex messaging.
I suggest you look at some of the examples and templates for queued message handler. Essentially, this will allow you to send message between two loops, which is probably what you want.
As for what your comm loop should actually look like, you should separate the opening part from the communicating and closing part. That way, you can send the Ready string immediately after connecting. The example code you used already handles the timeout error, which is the indication you want that the connection was lost.
Here's one (very bad) example of how this could be done:
You should note that this does not really do any error handling. If you use a queued message handler and actually turn the comm loop into a state machine (with states like Open,Comm and Close), it should be cleaner.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try looking at some of these tutorials.

Time Capsule blinks yellow,when I go to airport utility to set up, it Says This apple wi-fi bse station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to internet. My internet works, but I can't back up anything. What do I do??

Worked fine for about a couple of weeks after my son -law installed the time capsule. I can access the Internet both from my wife's I phone and from my desktop. I think that I need to get the DNS server numbers and put them in the two blanks; but where do I get them? Thanks, Jim

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

Essbase server is not starting...

I'm not able to login to Essbase server. Its already started in windows service. Initially it used to blink and disappears. I have changed the ARBORPATH environment variable to c:\hyperion\analyticservices.
Now when I type essbase in command prompt, its giving

Could anyone please help me in this regard....
