Essbase Server Password

Is there a default Essbase Server Password? I stopped and tried to restart the server in 9.3, but it's asking for a password. I don't think anyone set a custom password for the server.

Have you tried :- password
If that doesn't work then more than likely somebody has changed the password.

I am sure that I am giving correct credentials as I did it couple of times.I just added the essbase server as LOCALHOST and username as ADMIN and password as PASSWORD and confirm password as PASSWORD.I am not sure where I am making mistake.or Do I need to configure anything after adding the ADMINISTARTION SERVER through CONSOLE.
Please let me know if you have any idea on this.

Yes,While configuring essbase server,it has asked me to provide userid and password twice.
First time:
By default it came with userid as hypuser.But i changed it to essadmin(This is the user which i have created in database specifcally for essbase).
Second Time:
After the above step is completed ,when i click next,It was asking the for userid.By default it came with admin.I left it as it is and provided password as password.
After this it took several mins to configure and finally came out successfully.
Now my doubt is that Do I need to provide essadmin(which i have given while configuring essbase server) while adding essbase server through CONSOLE?.

Cannot add a New Essbase server into the EAS Console

Hi can someone assist me...........
I have installed Essbase on a new / additional server (that all went rather well, its not hard just pressing NEXT, NEXT, NEXT).
I then used a essadmin account to configure, i have to say its not the same as the other essbase server (so i am wondering if this was the start of my problems)!!. I did not use the same essadmin as the password is unknown its not known and the orginal installation was not recorded. I do however know and used the admin account for the shared services.
I then logged into EAS Console (single instance of the EAS, with a plan to add 3 new essbase servers to this console over the next couple of days.) i added the new essbase server, then externalised and all was happy with the world. SUCCESS :-)
I closed EAS, and went back in and thats where the fun started, it then stated that it could not connect and i recieved the invalid login message in essbase. I have read some forums and followed the advise of going into Shared Services and manually removing the new essbase server registry under projects, cleared down and replaced the essbase.sec file etc etc to the originals and stop/started the services.
So can anyone help on what my next steps should be?, I don't want to run off and re-register again via the console for shared services if i need to use the original essadmin password in my configuration. Any help will be gratefully recieved.

Essbase server does no appear in Shared Services

Hi All,
I've installed and set an EPM 11.1.2.2 environment under Win 2008 server with Oracle 11g database. I've installed and configurated Essbase Server, EAS, Essbase Stdudio, APS and EIS. But when I open up shared services the Analytic Server does not appear in Application Group and into EAS I'm getting :
Error: 104: Invalid user name or password
Error: 1051012: User native://DN=cn=911,ou=People,dc=css,dc=hyperion,dc=com?USER does not exist
I know the second error is because the admin user is not provided to the Essbase server, but it does no appear there.
Does someone could help me on that ?

Obviously several months later now, but just want to say thank you as well - I was having the exact same issue as the original poster (Essbase Server missing from Shared Services, credential error from EAS, etc). Your solution worked perfectly for me as well. That you for this solution.

Unable to login into Essbase server

Hi all,
I have installed Shared services and Essbase, I did "Externalize Users" in Essbase. It happened successfully. My understanding on this Externalize user is
"Essbase runs in Shared Services mode and in this mode Essbase create, Edit User permission becomes obsolete. You must be an Essbase administrator to manage users, and you must additionally be a Shared Services administrator to manage users from Shared Services"
Is this correct please validate. If this is correct, then if you change the password in shared services and sync the native directory in shared services, Essbase should work with new password but this is not happening when i try to connect the Essbase server it is throwing the below error.
"Error: 1051293: Login fails due to invalid login credentials"
Is there any other activity that has to be done in this process. I dont have clear idea on this Externalize users can any one explain.
Can any one help me in this urgent issue.

Thanks for the reply. I have few more doubts.
At the time of configuring the Shared services the default login will be admin and password. But when i configure the Essbase with Shared services in Configuration Utility i had given the different user name as "essadmin".
So i have followed the following steps to do Externalize users in Essbase:-
1. Just created the same "essadmin" user in shared services
2. Done externalize users in Administration services first inside Essbase console, while doing that i have given my own password.
3. Then went into the specific Essbase server and right clicked security and externalized users there, here also while doing that i have given my own password.
By doing this step externalize users worked successfully and i can sink the user with shared services.
Can you let me know whether the above steps are correct or any other procedure is available??
And i have one more doubt....
Once externalize users has been done, all the essbase sample database and Analytic services got migrated to Shared services. Then i have created new planning application which reflected in both essbase and shared services.
Then i loged into shared services and created a new user, then granted only one specific sample application and planning application to that user and sinc with database and also i loged into planning application and refreshed database.
Then i logged into essbase with the newely created username and password... but i noticed that there is no Essbase server available with the new user login. So i added the same essbase server with "external authentation" ticked.
Once this is done all the availble application appeared in his login, Here it has Not restricted only to the applicaiton which i have given access to that user, it is showing all the application and also allowing to edit the application.
I just want to restrict a particular application to one particular user to edit the outline in essbase and this has to be acheived by giving access restriction in shared services.... now i am unable to acheive the same. Can any one help me in doing so???

Unable to Shutdown Hyperion EPM 11.1.3.0 Essbase Server in Linux Environ

For Essbase start up purpose we have ./startEssbase.sh command is available in Linux Environment.
What about to shutdown the Essbase server command in linux env or any other procedure.
I am here trying ESSCMD command through cmd prompt.
SHUTDOWNSERVER SERVERNAME USER PASSWORD;
Please let me know the required steps.

You can write customized Maxl script stopEsb.msh as
login $1 identified by $2 on $3 ;
alter system shutdown ;
exit ;
And call the script in a shell script as
essmsh stopEssbase.msh $Uid $PWD $ServerIP

Shared Services doesnt show my Essbase server

Hi, im wondering if anyone out there can help.
I have been working on a new System9 Installation.
I have installed all of the Foundation software (Shared Services), Web analysis on a windows 2003 32 bit server and installed the Essbase application on a windows 64bit. I have gone through the configuration process and registered all of the products with shared services, however when i connect to shared services through http://SERVER:port/interop/ and sign in i cant see the essbase server? im really lost with this and not sure what to try.
I have set up my SQL databases and shared severices is talking to them i guess as SS works. (HSS, BIPLUS)
On all the setups i left the standard defualt credentials as the same. so on the essbase install the user name is admin and password, password for instence. Does this make a difference?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as i am very lost with this.

You won't see the essbase server in shared services until you convert essbase to shared services security mode.
If you log into EAS and connect to your essbase server, expand the server and right click security, choose "Externalize Users", then follow the options to convert to shared services security, more detailed information available at :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_eashelp/sec_mode.htm

Essbase Server and Deployment Server on different boxes

Hi,We're currently testing Hyperion Essbase 7.1.2 and we were wondering if it was possible to have the Essbase (Analytic) Server on one machine and Deployment Server on a different one. At first sight, it seemed so, so we did just that.Now, we'd like to test our setup by signing on through the ESS command line prompt (on the Deployment Server machine) but seem to miss something since the connection ("signon") is refused. The funny thing is that on the machine on which the Essbase Server is installed, we've also installed the Administration Services: through the Administration Console, we can indeed connect to the Deployment Server and interact with it.So my first question is: is our setup possible (that is, having the Deployment and Essbase servers on distinct boxes)?If so, what is the meaning of all the parameters needed for the "signon" command of the ESS command line prompt?Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,A. Yes, you can configure it that way and we have many customers with that setup.You have to login to the EDS console the first time using the 'default' admin username/password (system/password) and setup a username, with admin privileges, that also is on your Essbase server. Logout, then login with the 'real' username. Select the domain object ('essbase at the top of the tree'), right mouse click and add an analytic server. Type in the name of your Essbase server and it should be added (and you should be able to browse objects on the Essbase server). Yes, you are correct. Due to invalid credentials only i am getting this error.
I want to ask you one thing. Actually, at the time configuration i gave password as a password, then my manager wants to change that password to Gxxx@123!
I have changed that password, it is working fine to connect workspace, easconsole and all.
But the issue i seen in creating DataSource(In planning), i am getting error with new password in the Essbase server datails. If i give old password(as password), it is working fine.
So, How can get that new password to work here??
In ODI also, it is the issue. When i am using New password it is not working. With Old password it is working fine.

the user you were using to login to admin server might not be having access to the essbase server.
so make sure you were using the right user to connect to essbase server who is having access to essbase server.
like if you are using 'admin' user, check in shared services for the provision of admin user.
Check if he is having server access to that particular essbase server
or you can check by logging in with the same user through maxl.
in maxl, use the following login command and see if you were able to login or not.
login <username> <password> on <essbase server name>;

Essbase server startup issue

Hi All,
We are encountering a strange essbase server issue. We installed all products on Hyperion suite 11.1.2.2 on 64bit windows and successfully configured too(atleast as per message pane)
All services are up and running including Oracle Process Manager(Essbase.exe running in processes). But when we open EAS console and try to add Essbase server, it doesnt add but there is no error message as well. The window just stays and hangs.
2 things we tried:
1. Navigated to C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin and ran startessbase - it runs fine...message says..started successfully..opmn service started(we found essbase.exe in processes too) but still same issue from EAS console
2. We go to the path D:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin and then from cmd prompt...started "essbase" and then it works.,
So as 2 is working, we copied the path to "path" environment variables and created couple of them as well ESSBASEPATH and ARBORPATH., tried to again start services or run startessbase.cmd....but no use.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

On the opmn log this is what I see...and in the essbase server .cfg file....it doesnt have netdelay and retrycount numbers...will that cause any issue?

Essbase server is not starting...

Hi,
I'm not able to login to Essbase server. Its already started in windows service. Initially it used to blink and disappears. I have changed the ARBORPATH environment variable to c:\hyperion\analyticservices.
Now when I type essbase in command prompt, its giving
Fatal Error: Essbase is already loaded
Could anyone please help me in this regard....

Unable to connect to the Essbase server from Admin console

Hi,
I have installed Essbase Server 9.3, Client 9.3 and Administration Server 9.3 in my laptop.
The Essbase server is working fine. I am able to see all the sample applications from Excel add in. (This mean client is also working fine).
But, the problem is when i try to connect to the Essbase server, its not allowing me by producing an error:
"Unable to connect to the Essbase server please check the user name & password"
username: admin
password; password.
i tried several times...but its not working.
Please advise me.
FYI, The admin server service is started already.

Here , there are 2 things
1. Check, your essbase server is up and running ,and your admin service is up. Now , when you open the 'essbase admin console ' , provide user name and password as
admin
password
2. After you are connected to the console i.e admin console .
You see
enterprise view -> essbase analytic server -> under this , you might see your host name ( i.e of your laptop).
This host is your essbase server , and if you want to connect to it .Provide 'username' and 'password' ,which you have give after your essbase installation
So, conclusively, here we are dealing with 2 different sets of 'username' and 'passwords'
In step 1-> to connect to console , use 'admin' 'password'
In step 2-> to connect ot essbase server, use the credentials wchih you had given after installation of essbase server
Hope this clarifies you, as this is a lil confusion to many

Error when adding Essbase server...

Hi,
I installed Hyperion System 9.3.1 in my development machine and encounter the following error when adding a Essbase server in AAS for the first time.
Error: 1042017: Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay values in the ESSBASE.CFG file. Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again.
I used the default user "admin" and password "password". I used my servername:10080 as the server name. I hope I am right.
Why is this happening? I tried changing netdelay settings but still get the same. Is this something else? Does this have anything to do with my TCP/IP settings? I am installing this on a virtual PC.
I couldn't find an answer in previous posts.

The things that come to mind:
The server name you use should be the name of the virtual PC, not the machine it's running on. Also, depending on the settings for the Virtual PC environment, you may have to change the network options to allow it to be visible to the network, be in the right domain, etc...
The above may or may not get you any closer, the error message itself is just saying it can't receive a response from the server, which means the server never got the request or can't send a response back.

Essbase Server Hangs Intermittently - Urgent pls Help

Essbase Version - 9.3.3
Shared Services - 9.3.3
Enviroment - Windows Server 2003
We are in the process of migrating the users from Domain A to Domain B
There are around 15000 users across the board, out of which I assume there are around 250 users accessing the Hyperion Application.
Since the Domain Migration was started, We encountered Essbase Server freezes Intermittently.
Essbase Server goes down for about 10-15 Minutes and automatically comes back. No Error Msg in the Essbase Log.
Active Directory Migration was put on Hold because business had to complete their Month end Activities.
While we were working to find the RCA and identified that few users who were migrated from Domain A to Domain B appeared to be on Both the Domain and we figured out that it might be one of the reason for Essbase Server Hangs.
We had a Plan to Run the Update native Directory Utility to clear the Stale Data
Post Performing the Action our system was stable and didn't had system Hangs.
we also changed the shared services Cache refresh Interval to 24 Hrs in CSS.xml File ( Just to Make sure the Refresh happens Overnight)
Since the Active Directory Team had resumed their Migration Activies, we started Experiencing the System Hangs Issues again. server goes down for 5-10 min and comes back up

As mentioned, AD team have the filters on place, There is no issues with the User Access and there was no change in password after migrating the Domain.
I have checked the Display Session through Maxl and there is No heavy sessions.
As Stated earlier, we are unable to identify the cause regarding the System Freeze. All users access the application all of sudden essbase server hangs and it doesn't allow user to retrieve the data, nor allow him to access any application within Essbase and Planning.
After 5-10 Min, server automatically comes back.
Can you tell me if there is a way to track the system Hangs through Essbase Log without getting the any inputs from the users.
Assuming if the users sessions are heavy what makes the server hang and automatically resumes without intervention.
Shared Services Security Log display the following Error, Can you tell me if you had come across any such errors before.
