Essbase server properties OS tab without values

Hi guys,
I need a guidance about Essbase server properties.
I just installed essbase server 9.3.1.2 and other Hyperion such as HSS and BI with 9.3.1 version.
The architecture is
HSS(machine A), Essbase Server (Machine B), EAS & BISvcs (Machine C), BI Svcs (Machine D)
Problem occured when I opened up the properties of the essbase server and on the "OS" tab and "Disk Drives" tab has nothing inside. I checked my local machine and I got value such as OS : Windows server 2003 etc.
I did telnet for essbase port (every port in fact) and every single one are opened, I also confirm with the network manager and he said "no ports are block in our network".
Can somebody help me why this is happen?

This is a genric message which says could not connect to agent. Try the following:
- Check to see if your Essbase server agent is started and running
- Try with IP adress instead of server name to test.
- Increase NetRetry configuration setting in Essbase.cfg file and see if it resloves the issue.

Essbase Studio Fails Validation - Incorrect Server.properties path

I've tried to figure this out on my own, but I just can't seem to get it.
During the validation script of EPM 11.1.1.3 (Windows Server 2k3), I get the following error for Essbase Studio:
Start running Essbase Studio Server
Essbase Studio Server failed.
Connecting to Essbase Studio Server... - failed
Error:Logging configuration file is not found. Expected filename is D:\Hyperion\common\validation\9.5.0.0\.\server.properties
Network communication with the server failed
Clearly, it looks like the path is incorrect (the extra .\ between 9.5.0.0 and server.properties)
However, I can't seem to find where this path is set. I've looked at a bunch of the files that make up the validation script, but they seem to point to compiled JAVA files that can't be edited.
Anyone have any ideas around where I can correct this path?
Of note, Essbase Studio does in fact work, I just want to fix this validation script so that any real issues will be pointed out.

Also, this error causes it to FAIL the validation that is generated.
Essbase Studio is RED in the HTML that is generated.
I would assume if it is common, other people would be noticing that too?

Can't find "Server Properties" in the Admininstration tab of ASC

Hey,
I'm running OC4J 10g (10.1.3.5)
I'm trying to enable remote debugging (for IntelliJ IDEA) on my locally installed OC4J instance. I'm logged in as an Admin user with all privileges, however I cannot seem to find the "Server Properties" in the Administration tab. The help suggests that I expand Properties so I should be able to find it there however it isn't there.
The strange thing is, there is something else in its place which isn't being mentioned in the Help, "SSO Configuration". Obviously I don't want nor need to be in that config part.
So what's going on? No mention of this nor the SSO config in the help? What's that about?

I downloaded oc4j_extended_101350.zip, the default oc4j container from Oracle.
Then I set JAVA_HOME and ORACLE_HOME as specified in the readme.
Thirdly I started the server, opened the ASC and noticed my problem.
Surely someone knows what's going on and what needs to be done? The help isn't helpful at all for this matter.
And sorry for the double post, I thought the first attempt was a timeout.

Can't add the essbase server in the administration server

Hello every body
I'm using essbase for the first time and i'm trying to add my essbase server into my administration console.
It asks for the server name and the credentials.when i entrer the correct informations my analytic server can't be added and i catch the following error:
Essbase Server: aharrab-vm com.essbase.eas.essbase.defs.ServerCommands.Connect November 14, 2008 2:13:38 PM CET
*Error: 1042006: Network error [10061]: Unable to connect to [aharrab-vm:1423].*
The client timed out waiting to connect to Analytic Services Agent using TCP/IP.
Check your network connections.
Also make sure that server and port values are correct
I started all the servers (Administration,integration,shared,provider) and they're all well configured.
anyone has an idea about this?

Try starting Essbase in the foreground by typing "essbase" (without the quotes) in a command window.
If there's an issue with Essbase starting then the error will give you a good idea of what's wrong.

Multicast sessions page of server properties

I am using ZEN 4.0.1 ir7, Netware 6.5sp4, ConsoleOne 1.3.6e.
I was creating multicast sessions on the multicast sessions page of server
properties for later use by my technician. I had created 5 sessions, then
closed the property page. Then later I went back to make changes on one of
the sessions. When I attempt to open that tab I get the message 'Loading,
one moment please...', and there it stays. I have to kill the ConsoleOne
process in task manager and restart ConsoleOne in order to do anything.
What's going on, and how do I correct it?

Thanks guys. I started c1 without the zen snapins, then deleted one of the
sessions from the 'other' tab. Then I put the zen snapins back in and was
able to view the rest of the multicast sessions. Kind of screws up the
linkages in edir doing it that way, but that's fixable.

Essbase Server Problem

Installation and configuration with SQL Server passed without any problem, now when i am trying to add my Essbase Server it this throwing me this error.....
Network error[10061]: Unable to connect to [m/c no:1423]
The client timed out waiting to connect to Analytic Services Agent Using TCP/IP.
Check your network connections.
Also make sure that server and port values are correct.

This is a genric message which says could not connect to agent. Try the following:
- Check to see if your Essbase server agent is started and running
- Try with IP adress instead of server name to test.
- Increase NetRetry configuration setting in Essbase.cfg file and see if it resloves the issue.

Does Essbase maintain a log of the changes to the properties? For e.g. if I need to know when was the property Aggregate missing value was set, where can I find it?

I wonder if the OUTLINECHANGELOG Essbase.cfg setting would do what he wants.
Per the Tech Ref:
If OUTLINECHANGELOG is set to TRUE, Essbase logs all outline changes into the file database_name.olg. Database administrators can review the outline revision history in the .olg file and gather enough information to roll back changes if needed.
Each database contains a separate outline change log file in the same location as the database. The file is stored in the database directory of the Essbase Server installation.
The data format of the outline change log is:
* Date and time of outline modification
* Name of the user who made the change
* Type of change the user made
* Details describing the type of change made
I have never used this setting, so the OP would have to turn it on and test to see if database property changes are logged. It might be worth a try.

When I deploy the HPCM application to essbase, i received the following message below in the log file hpm.log

If you are installing on Windows, there is a limitation in the default configuration of TCPIP. I wrote about it, and included the steps to fix it, on my blog at http://timtows-hyperion-blog.blogspot.com/2007/12/essbase-api-error-fix-geeky.html.
Note the error number you reported is slightly different than what I write about in the blog, but I believe I have seen this error fixed by the blog steps..

It gets compiled successfully but when i run the report, i get 2 errors.
Error 1:
REP-1401: 'no_daysformula':Fatal PL/SQL error occurred.

Should i use only 1 return statement?
Can i use as many return statements as i want?
What is the exact mistake? Please let me know.

Let me clear you the first thing...
If you get any fatal errors while running the report (e.g., function returned without value,no value etc.,) the report will show
REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.
So you just correct the function 'no_daysformula' .
First of all you run the report without that formula column.
If it works fine then , Check the return value of your formula column (Your formula column properties --> Return value --> value (It will be DATE as i think so).
As function will always return a single value, Check your formula 'no_daysformula' returns the same.
declare a return variable say for example..
DECLARE
V_DATE DATE;
BEGIN
--YOUR CODE---
RETURN V_DATE := (RETURN VALUE)
END;
Last but not least ... use Else condition to return (NULL or any value ) in your code and check..

Network error since moving Essbase server into new VLAN

We just moved a Solaris zone containing an Essbase server into another VLAN and now I am seeing strange problems with network timeouts. When EAS runs "query database" commands in MAXL (when you click on a database, for example), it can hang for ten minutes and then timeout. If I run this locally on the server via essmsh:
MAXL> query database <Db> get estimated size;
I get, after ten minutes:
ERROR - 1056213 - message from server [Network error [145]: Unable to connect to [chr7z037:1423]. The client timed out waiting to connect to Analytic Services Agent using TCP/IP. Check your network connections. Also make sure that server and port values are correct].
THe server isn't down and I can connect to it via EAS and HSS.
I am not sure what service is reporting this error - must be APS or HSS (which run on a seperate windows box)?
Also EAS data previews are painfully slow and/or timeout with the same network error as above.
The essbase server is in HSS mode.

As CL said ,even I had faced the similar issue. In our case , it was the concept of DMZ ( they were in 2 different DMZ's ) and not able to communicate and gave the error ( which you mentioned in your post).
Try to open up the ports ( Try to telnet also to check)

You can create a text file from the SQL server that writes the command like"CREATEVARIABLE "CurrYear" "Servername" "AppName" "DBName" "2005";then you can create a schedule job that would run this script which can update the variable. CREATEVARIABLE creates/replaces the current variable.

Asset Legacy dt upld-problem in uploading fiscal year assets without value

I am trying to upload Assets which are pertaining to current Fiscal year and for which no depreciation run is taken place , using Tcode AS91,
Initially I got error :
Capitalization date must be earlier than or same as transfer date.
Then I changed transfer date to 31.03.2009 .
Now I am getting error :
Current fiscal year 2008 has to be after transfer date 31.03.2009 .
How do I take these Assets with / without values ?
and if without values , then how can I update Asset values ?

I have same scenaio we are uploading the assets on 30.09.2008, so our data transfer date is same.
The issue is
1. When we start AS91 for current year, assets takeover values fields are in display mode.
System configuration was:-
A). Legacy data transfer date was 30.09.2008
B). last period posted in previous system was 6th
C). capitalized date taken by me is after 31.03.2008 (Note: - when I take capitalization date before 31.03.2008, than system show me take over tab in change mode)
2). While doing AS92 also system shows me all takeover tab fields in display mode, when I select capitalization date after 31.03.2008.
The thing is that how we can upload all those assets which we have purchased in the current year and how we will treat with the depreciation in the system
up to which date we should take accumulated dep for previous year assets.
please answer if u want i can raise a seprate question.

Cannot Add Essbase Server From Admin Services Consol

I am trying to add a new essbase server to my Admin Services list. I get the following error message:
Error: 1042006: Network error [145]: Unable to connect to [SERVERNAME:1423].
The client timed out waiting to connect to Analytic Services Agent using TCP/IP.
Check your network connections.
Also make sure that server and port values are correct
The essbase services are running on the other machine.. And I can communicate with the other box using FTP etc. So I think I need to get some ports opened between the source and target servers.
Can anyone please tell me what ports should I try to get opened. I read the documentation from help menu and it talks about some server.xml file and also says that you need to specift the port names unless they are something other than defaults. But I am not very clear about this.
Can anyone please help me to figure out what exactly is going wrong ?

Review the essbase.cfg on the server machine and look at the SERVERPORTBEGIN and SERVERPORTEND entries. You would want those entries as well as 1423 opened.
For default configurations ensure any firewall has the below ports opened from the client to the server:
TCP/1423
TCP/32768 through TCP/33768

ESSBASE server - Connect Error 1042032:

Hi All,
I am having trouble connecting to Essbase Server on a new install i have done on a windows 2008 64 bit. The Installation went successful and I am able to start the essbase server from command prompt. From the Administration service Console, I can connect to Admin Server.
I am able to add a new Essbase server, but when I try to connect or start it gives a following error:
Error: 1042032: Network Error: Unable to detect ESSBASE server listening on IPv4 or IPv6 network protocols on hostname - [Essbase11G].
I have also ensured that all Hyperion services are running on the Windows services. I did not find any helpful threads on this error and am new to this product.
Appreciate any help in resolving this issue.
