Essbase Services stops immediatly

Hi all,
I just configured Shared Services before trying to start Essbase 11.1.1.3 Server. The service starts but stops immediatly.
The log of Essbase is OK.
When I look at the Shared Services, I understand that something is wrong but I really don't understand what and why..!?
Can you help me I'm really lost and in stress with configurations issues...

First of all can you log into shared services without any problems, if so can create users and provision?
When you say the essbase.log looks ok can you post the details, also there should be SharedServices_Security_Client.log in the same directory
Before posting the logs delete essbase.log and SharedServices_Security_Client.log and then try and start the service, once it fails copy and post those logs.

What you have written is the stop order and the reverse is start order.
and wat is HYS9ESBAgent11.1.1.1_Hypservice_1??It is the essbase agent running in the background services and available in
$Hyperion Home\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin\ESSBASE.exe

How to create a batch file to stop/start only essbase services 11.1.2.2

Hi,
I have a requirement to build a batch file to schedule stop or start essbase. This batch files should run daily once. Version 11.1.2.2.
I have tried to prepare a batch file which is calling the default service restart batch StartEssbase.bat and stopEssbase.bat.
Stop process is running fine. But, Start is not success. When I run StartEssbase.bat and stopEssbase.bat manually essbase is restarting successfully.
I tried with the command like START ESSCMD.exe "Password" also. Still it is not working.
Could any one please help with the batch scrpit how can I build to start or stop essbase.

Automate start/stop essbase service using Maxl or batch

Hi - how would my batch or Maxl file look like if I wanted to come out with a script to stop and start my essbase service? The reason why i am doing this is because I wanted to stop the essbase service, so that I can archive the essbase.log file.
I am on essbase 7.0, I have read on some postings that stopping and starting the essbase service can potentially corrupt the sec file. If so, then is there any other way of archive the essbase.log file so that it does not grow to megs.

You could use the following maxl
alter system shudown;
it may be useful to stop all the applications first e.g.
alter system unload application all;
or you can use windows command line
net stop essbaseservicename
and to start
net start essbaseservicename
Another method to backup the essbase.log is to make a copy of the log then use maxl to delete the log.
alter system clear logfile;

Above entries in Essbase.log tells that Essbase product entry was not found in Shared services.
As you rebooted the server, you might have lost domain server logs, but I think you can get more info about root cause in Essbase.log or essbase related log files only.

Essbase Service suddenly stops during report automation

Has anyone experienced this before? The Essbase service suddenly stops while running batches.
I get the following message in the Event viewer everytime this happens:
The Hyperion S9 BI+ Analytic Services 9.3.0 - essbase service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s).
Is this due to constant batches with large reports taxing essbase?
Is there an Essbase.cfg modification that I can make to help avoid this?

This is the exception file ( I believe it is generated at the server level as it is in the \Hyperion\AnalyticServices directory (if that is what you mean))

Essbase service wont stop

I know this might be better posted in the Essbase forum, but..
I have Planning, Essbase, HSS etc running on Windows server, and recently have had the issue where Essbase service refuses to stop when running the job to stop all Hyperion services.
This has actually occurred on 2 seperate client sites.
Nothing obvious appears in the Essbase.log or on the server event log.
I know its vague but anyone got any suggestions ?

How are you trying to stop essbase via Maxl ? If not have you tried using Maxl
I know essbase can be funny about shutting down when there locks or unable to unload applications.

Essbase application stopped

Hi Gurus,
One of my essbase app has stopped. I tried to start it from the EAS console and it does not start. It give a message, the following application did not start.
It gives ERROR 1002097 Unable to load database
Any suggestions?

Please check below steps!
Symptoms
Error 1002097 Unable to load database (dbname) when:
Trying to start an Application or
Trying to Launch a Business Rule from Essbase
The application log also may show the following two errors:
Unable to lock file dbname.esm
Unable to open dbname.esm file
Cause
A lock was kept on the database or file (either by third party process (e.g. virus scan) or Essbase (orphaned ESSSVR process)
Solution
Ensure in Essbase Administration Services that no locks exist (right-click on Essbase Servername, EDIT->LOCK and EDIT->LOCKED OBJECTS, and if your database/outline appears in there, unlock it.)
Ensure no third party process keeps a lock on Essbase files. Pay special attention to antivirus- and backup software that may be scanning / running on your Essbase folders as that can lock the files.
Check if any ESSSVR process stays when the Essbase Agent is stopped
If the Essbase Agent is stopped using the Services Panel on Windows while a process is currently running, or if there has been an abnormal termination of the Essbase Agent, orphaned ESSSVR processes can be left. The steps to recover are then:
On Windows:
1. Shutdown the Essbase server using ESSCMD or MaxL.
2. Check Task Manager, confirm the ESSBASE.exe process is gone.
3. Check for any orphaned ESSSVR.exe processes still running.
4. Do an "End Process" on any ESSSVR.exe process that is still running.
5. Start the Essbase service and start the application.
UNIX:
1. Log in to the UNIX server as the user that starts Essbase.
2. Shutdown the Essbase server using ESSCMD or MaxL.
3. Run a "ps -ef | grep ESSBASE" to confirm Essbase is shutdown.
4. Run a "ps -ef | grep ESSSVR" to check for orphaned ESSSVR processes.
5. Note the process id (PID) and do a "kill -15 (pid)" for each of the orphaned ESSSVR processes. It may take a few minutes for the process to terminate. If it does not terminate, you will need to run a "kill -9 (pid)" which is a hard kill.
6. Start Essbase as you normally do and start the application.
To shutdown Essbase using ESSCMD or MaxL, use the following commands:
ESSCMD:
Shutdownserver "servername" "username" "password";
MaxL:
Alter system shutdown;
Windows Services:
sc \\MACHINENAME stop "HyS9ESBAgent11.1.1_hypservice_1"
choice /n /t 5 /d y > nul

Essbase service gets shutdown abruptly

Hi, We are facing a problem with Essbase Service. even after multiple restarts, the service just stops with in few seconds after its starts. Please find below error in the log.
[Fri Apr 30 09:21:40 2010]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051496)
Essbase failed to register product at Shared Services Server with Error [Registeration failed: null.Registeration failed: null.]
We are using 11.1.1.3 version of Hyperion.
I have checked the Shared Services and its running fine, as i can login into the EAS.
Please suggest.

Is this app with foundation services right?
Have you check http://<servername>:58080/interop before you up essbase service?
base on my experiance Essbase always going down when it up that services too fast.
Try to stop all services include repository and make sure u can accsess interop before you up essbase services

Essbase services from remote machine

Hi,
Can anyone suggest if we can start all the essbase services(like foundation services, essbase server, etc) from a remote machine or client machine? Please advice. Can we write a script or is there any other option available?

If you want to script it, I can think of three ways (there are probably more):
1) SC.exe -- http://ryepup.unwashedmeme.com/blog/2007/01/04/restart-a-windows-service-remotely/
2) psexec.exe -- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
3) VBScript (and probably PowerShell but I've never used that) can remotely stop services through WMI -- http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vbscript/wmi_services.htm

Recyle Essbase services only

Just thought to get some opinion for our practice.
We have been stopping Essbase service, rebooting Essbase server and starting Essbase service weekly, but not the rest of Hyperion services, such as HSS, BI and Planning, etc. Do you think this is a good practice? The reason we are doing this is that sometimes our Planning application is hung. Sometimes we just got Essbase exception files, sometimes just nobody can connect to Essbase server. But it seems the users are in system already working fine, just no new connection can be made. Thought by recycling Essbase weekly, it can help to free up the resource on Essbase server, in turn, reduce the application hung incident.

Thank you for your quick reponse!
My concern is that there is dependency among Hyperion services, do you see any downside by only recycling Essbase service? I think I may need to recyle all the services on a regular basis per Hyperion suggested orders. Just it's hard to schedule them due to the service dependency and cross platform between Unix and Window.
Also have you experienced Planning hung before? We have been experiencing Planning hung more often these days. We always end up with recycle the services. Sometimes we can get away by only recycling Essbase, but more recently we have to recycle all the services.

Windows Server 2003 service stop on machine shutdown

I have many db's running on W2003 Server.
The services are set up to issue a shutdown immediate on service stop. This works fine if I stop the service manually. If the machine shuts down, the database is aborted, or so it seems. The alert log has no entry at all. Subsequent startup shows crash recovery.
How do I get windows to stop the service normally on shutdown?

We are also having the same issue. We create a shutdown script via the Group Policy editor which works fine if we do a manual shutdown, but if we do a remote shutdown ex: "shutdown /r /f /m <servername /t 120", it does not work, the Database crash.
As mentionned the script works when we do a manual shutdown but does not work for a remote shutdown. The group policy script contains the following:
echo Rebooting server START at %DATE% %TIME% >> E:\oracle\product\admin\test\Reboot.log
net stop <Oracle servicename>
echo Rebooting server MIDDLE at %DATE% %TIME% >> E:\oracle\product\admin\test\Reboot.log
net stop <Oracle servicename>
echo Rebooting server END at %DATE% %TIME% >> E:\oracle\product\admin\test\Reboot.log
After the reboot we see all the echoed line in the "reboot.log" file but the "net stop" doesn't get executed or failed since the database crash and recovers

Could not start hyperion essbase service

When i am starting essbase services it is starting sucessfully.
and when iam starting admin services its starting and at the same time essbase services is stopping, if iam trying to start the services its throwing error like
Could nto start the hyperion essbse services 11.1.1-hypservice_1 service on local computer
error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly
i have checked the task manager : no other process for essbase are running for any user.

when iam trying to run the essbase.cmd the window is closing abruptly by displaying the error "failed to start essbase"

In Shared Services Security mode it is not possible to start Essbase when single sign on initialization fails.

Sql reporting services stops every 24 hours for a short time then restarts

I have noticed that recently in sccm 2012 sp1 the sql reporting services stops every morning at 7:58 am and restarts after a minute or two. The only entry in the event logs is when it stops. I don't see anything tied in with it that stops or
starts at the same time and there are no tasks or anything like that which would point to this time frame. I just thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone had any ideas. Usually with something of this nature there are some corresponding
log entries that go beyond the service stopping, but in this case there isn't. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think I found out what was going on. I approached this from a different angle and was directed to the sql reporting services logs and found information on the reporting web server stopping. Researching that yielded the following information.
It appears that this is a result of the SSRS Web Server recycling the App Domain, which is supposed to be a pretty normal process. In fact, the configuration file for this process defaults to recycling the app domain twice daily. This lines up
with the time frame that the reporting service is stopping. It restarts it in less that two minutes and logs the recyling in the reporting services log twice daily so why I'm not seeing this entry in the event logs twice daily or even every day must
be a timing thing. I think if it takes an extra millisecond or two to recycle the app domain, it dumps an entry into the windows event logs and the sccm component status monitoring.
