Essbase V11.1.1.2.0

I noticed the OTN download (Evaluation) does not have Essbase Admin 11.1.1.2.0, though it does have Essbase Provider services, client & server downloads for Essbase. The Essbase V9.3.1 does have all the modules. Can anyone explain why the Essbase Admin is missing on V11.1.1.2.0 ?

As long as I work with essbase (since 2001)
it was possible to intall it on a mobile workstation too as a playing/lerning/education instance.
I loved this opportunity.
Is this still possible (means hat anyone experience with) installing essbase 11.x (and the stuff close around it)
on a workstation (WinXP Prof 32bit, 3 GB RAM).
Or can someone say that it's definitely (im)possible to make it run.
If there where at least a small likelihood I would like to try it out.
Please let me know.

Installing Essbase V11.1.2.1

Hello,
We currently have Essbase V9.3.0.1 installed on 64-bit Solaris SPARC. We are looking to install the latest version of Essbase V11.1.2.1 and only Essbase - not interested in any of the other products that seem to come along with it. Is this a possible migration path? I understand the documentation states there are certain migration paths, but it also seems to indicate that it is only if you are using licensing and provisioning, which we are not. We basically just want to install the new version and migrate the data/cubs over to the newest version.
In one single folder I have downloaded all of the EPM products and the System Installer and I believe I have correctly installed just Essbase (and the Foundation Services - not sure if those are necessary). My biggest concern is that the previousl install path was /usr/local/essbase and when I installed EPM (which I assume is just a renamed Essbase) it installed to /essbase11121/Oracle/Middleware/… (etc). Just not sure if I have the correct product installed.
Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of documentation and/or install binaries that will allow me to just install and run Essbase V11.1.2.1 so I can confirm with my team that it has been installed correctly.

I reached out to someone on my team who is familiar with our current Essbase environment and they gave me this information and has a few questions about the migration/upgrade. If you or anyone could be of help with these, it would be greatly appreciated.
In our current essbase setup we have applications configured under /usr/local/essbase/app/ folder and under it we have different folders for different applications. All these applications stores it's metadata , logs, data under the defined directory structure - we have stores data in files. So as you can see the path for the data file is /usr/local/essbase/app/APP_NAME/default - the .dat file is the data.
Here, if you are planning to use the migration wizard , please try to check on the following points:
1. You need to have the Existing 9.3.0 application in place along with the new version 11.1.2.1 in the same machine ? ( or in the same machine could we use the migration wizard with the same application name ? ) .
2. Migration wizard should move all the artifacts (rule files, filters (user/group access) etc.

Essbase V11 : script launched with EAS didn't want to finish

Hi,
Since we migrate on Essbase v11 some one my old script launched with Essbase Administration Consol didn't want to finish however it's already finished in "Session" and result was ok !
Same problem when I launched by MAXL some reports.
The weirdest thing is when my coworker launched the same script on his computer in a same network park it's works fine. So it's not a network or policy problem.
Do you know where the problem come ? I think it is a problem with Regestry database but I don't know where search.

Dear Yohan,
best would be to find out if this is always the case - your install does not work but the on of your co-worker does.
You could test if you also see a difference between the installed EAS console and the Web launched console.
If these two behave the same but are consistently different from your co-workers you may want to check/compare the JRE versions on
your machine vs the one on your co-workers. See if there is a difference.
Also make sure that your EAS Console connects to an EAS server of the same patch/version.
There might be some slight hickups when using e.g a version 11.1.1.3.0*0* EAS Console against a version 11.1.1.3.0*4* EAS Server.

Trying (tried) to install Essbase v11.1.2.0.0

The instructions below are for 11.1.1.3 - thought they were just slightly old and used them to download and configure v11.1.2.0.0

I'm on Windows 7. So I downloaded, installed and configured. There were several problems but I figured them out. Found that I needed the Oracle 11g db and so downloaded and installed that.
In addition, believed I needed the Windows Loopback Adapter and installed that. And at that point I thought I was good to go.
I could login to essmsh (legacy maxl essbase language it seems) but wasn't able to login to the Essbase Administrations Services tool. What I wanted to do next was the examples:

and those require the Admin Services Console which I assume to be the same thing.
Much fumbling around. Reinstalled - that didn't help.
The I noticed: there are a lot more Essbase components listed under the 11.1.1.3 downloads than for 11.1.2.0.0.
Where are the other components (in the newer version)? Have things been rearchitected? Don't know so what I'm trying now is to download and install 11.1.1.3 and see if that works any better.

Uninstalled all of 11.1.2.0.0 and backed up to the previous version 11.1.1.3. 11.1.1.3 was an even bigger mess than 11.1.2.0.0 - I couldn't even get 11.1.1.3 configured. It seems that such things as the application server and apache are not bundled into the 11.1.1 install while they are bundled into 11.1.2. I've repeated this process a sufficient number of times now that I feel I can say this with some certainty.
Went back to 11.1.2. Installed it and configured, all of which I was able to do before. And 11.1.2 is (as it should be) an improvement over 11.1.1.
My original problem was logging into the Essbase Administration Services Console. It turns out that localhost, 127.0.01, and the hostname value are not all equivalent (this machine is getting its address via DHCP and I do have the Windows Loopback Adapter installed). I don't know yet what this all means but when I login to the EAS console with:
server = hostname value
login = admin
password = what I set this value to during the install
it works.
In the Admin console, I've registered my local Essbase server. However I'm not able to connect to it:
Single Sign On External Authentication is Disabled
Google this, etc. I then figured out a bunch of stuff about where various files are. You need essbase.cfg which should point to (for the purpose of Single Sign On) CSS.XML.
And that would seem to work to the point where I get the following in essbase.log:

Single Sign On function call [css_init] failed with error [CSS Error: CSS class not found: NativeCAppImpl]
I've googled this but so far haven't figure it out. The above though should be more useful here in that it's very specific.

Export data in cloumn format in Essbase v11.1.1

Hi Everybody,
I have installed essbase 11.1.1 in my personal desktop recently, to understand the new features and I observe dataexport in column format is not working as intended. When i select option called "export in column format" data is not exporting in cloumn format, exporting in blocks(normal export). In version 7.1.6 we did data export several times using column format and data was exported in cloumn format.
Do i need to change any settings in cfg file to export data in cloumn format?
Please some one share your views on this?

Export in SQLLoader format has been changed to generate the data in a separate file from the control file. This was done as there are restrictions in the data that can be embedded in the control file. You should now find two files generated for each loader format export: a .ldr and a .ctl file.

I am working on an issue where a MaxL is closing and killing connections to an application and it's database before it Stops Application inorder to flip it into a working database. Frequently, the process fails at the Stop Application and were advise that we need an ulock objects statement. Are the locks and locked objects different? I can understand why there aren't locks on an ASO and I can see locked objects on an ASO when the outline is checked out. How else can an ASO have locked objects? I am updating the Maxl to include disables on connections, updates, and commands and to unlock objects against the database.
Now I need to test this and am wondering how to provoke a locked object on an ASO cube?

Essbase Excel Addin on 64 Bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Office 2010

Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11.1.2.2 on server with Essbase and Shared Services.
Now, on the client I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit office 2010.
I tried installing Excel Addin client only (without Essbase client) and restarted machine after install.
After install Addin didnt come up automatically and i tried to manually set the add-in, I'm getting an error "This is not a valid add-in"
Is it because i am using 64 bit of office and have to go back to 32 bit.
Isnt 64 bit supported for latest 11.1.2.2 Essbase ?
Any ideas or experience in this regard will be helpful to me as our company is going for Windows 7 and Office 2010 across the business users and if 64 bit Office is not supported or has issues i would have to suggest them to go with 32 bit Office 2010.

Essbase Add-In Drill Down Error

Hi
When double clicking to zoom down in excel, excel crashes. I can use other features ok, and s/sheet retrieves ok if I select members first. I am using;
Essbase V11.1.1.3
Windows XP SP3 (recently upgraded from SP2)
Excel 2003
Hyperion components (Essbase databases / Planning / Reporting / Shared Services) are hosted on virtual servers.
I have tried uninstalling Smart View and reinstalling Essbase on my laptop, but Excel still crashes.
Although I recently installed SP3 (and this may coincide with the error), other users in the company also upgraded to SP3 are unaffected.
Not sure how to uninstall the add-in, but did deselect, the reselect the add-in (Tools - Add-Ins).
Any ideas?

Problems with extract metadata from Essbase with ODI 10.1.3.5.

Hello there, I have a really annoying problem. I have 2 dimensions in essbase v11 with a space on it, (Itens Financeiros and Centros Financeiros), and this is causing a problem when I try to extract the metadata from essbace to a table. the problem occurs some times in 3 - loading - ss_0 - begin essbase metadata extract and some times in 4 - loading ss_0 - extract metadata, but in this 2 steps the error is the same:
unknown member name [itens] in function [@idescendants]. I see in Johns blog someone sayng to add a '/"' in the front and at the end of the member filter criteria to allow ODI to parse the space as part of the member name. but I really don't understand this. Someone can helpme with this? Thanck you.

It doesn't matter, I am able to replicate with an older version of the essbase adaptor...
I take it this is the type of error you are receiving "com.hyperion.odi.essbase.ODIEssbaseException: Extract operation failed : Cannot query members by specs. Analytic Server Error(1200497): Error parsing formula for [REGION DEFINITION"
If you download patch - Patch 8785893: ORACLE DATA INTEGRATOR 10.1.3.5.2_02 ONE-OFF PATCH
It is easy to install just a matter of copying a jar file over an existing one in the \oracledi\drivers directory.
It should resolve the issue.

OBIEE Essbase error

Hi I am running OBIE on win2003 v10.1.3.4
I've installed Essbase 11.1.1.3.0 client on the BI Server
I am connecting to Essbase v11.1.1.3.0 on a different win2003 server
I've successfully done a multidimensional import of the cube
I've created the business and presentation layers
There are no errors on the global consistency check.
The Model loads successfully
When I go into answers I create the request but when I click on display results I get ;
View Display Error
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
Error Details

Resolved.
Environment variables ARBORPATH and ESSBASEPATH has been created as user variables during installation. I changed these to system variables and it works now.

Essbase install on one user profile and not able to use it on another

I installed Essbase v11 on multiple machines running Windows XP on an Admin acount and went to use the application on another user's login on the same machine.
When I do so, I had to redirect the addin to the two bin files and Essbase shows up fine. I can access the options but when I go to connect to a server, nothing happens.
It acts like I clicked off of the menu and nothing pops up at all. I fixed this by uninstalling the application on the original logged in Admin account, deleting the Hyperion folder and reinstalled the application under the user's account.
My question is, am I supposed to be able to use v11 on multiple accounts like I was v7?
EDIT - I did install the program on the C: drive and not under the Admin account.

RDBMS for Essbase

Hi All-
I got the below statement from an Oracle guy while planning for an upgrade:
"An Oracle RDBMS is required in essbase v11 for housing metadata and system security information and it was not required in the v7. "
Is it a valid statement if we just want to have Essbase at standalone product with native security? Does it mean that v9.3 also need an RDBMS for Essbase? If so, why?
I've worked on v7 & v9.3 Essbase, and I don't remember using RDBMS for v9.3 Essbase. Please let me know if you have more info on this, Thanks!

Hi John ,
I am using Hyperion V11.1.2 and OBIEE v 10.1.3.4.I went through the link.
I add the DWORD Value named Essbase and set its Data value to 1 on the machine where OBIEE is installed.Now while trying to connect to Essbase from Oracle BI Administrator it's showing error msg
nQSError:36001 unable to load the dll essapinu.dll.
plz tell me how to resolve is error??
