Essbase V6.2 - Better on Unix or NT - what issues?

We are getting a new 8 processor top of the line HP Unix box for Oracle. We have the option of running Essbase on this box. What pitfalls has anyone encountered when moving from NT to Unix? What advantages? (We currently are running NT on an IBM Netfinity 8500R quad 550 with 4 gig RAM) Thanks for any suggestions/comments.

There aren't really any advantages from an Essbase perspective. All of the functionality that exists in the NT version exists in the Unix versions. You'll get people who are pro-Unix or pro-Windows that will advocate one platform over another, but the decision of what platform to go with really comes down to what the organization can (and wants to) deal with. If you already have Unix administrators, it may not be a large administrative burden to put Essbase on UNIX.From an O/S perspective, UNIX has a lot of nice built in utilities - programming languages, scripting shells, etc that are not available (by default) in Windows. However, you can get Perl and other Unix-type scripting shells for Windows. As far as the hardware goes, I don't know enough about the two boxes to compare and contrast them - from a performance perspective. If you have the opprotunity, try testing the Essbase databases you have on the new server and see if you get any performance gains.Hope that helps a bit.Regards,Jade-----------------------------Jade ColeSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity [email protected]

    Ok I have a question.
Why do you want to use Beta software? Especially since you are having this problem with it?
Uninstall it and forget about it until it is released as a real piece of software.

    Hi riffpizcy,
Error 148:3 is a licensing error.
Try following the steps mentioned in the KB: Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Windows
You can download Acrobat 9 Std. from: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/8d640488-4a92-4f7d-b50b-d8eb7f96bff8

  • Benefit of Moving Essbase from Win 2000 to UNIX

At my job, will currently are using Win 2000 for the OS that Essbase runs on. My Mgr and I want to migrate to UNIX, for simplicity. Also we believe using UNIX will shorten retrieval times for Web based reports. Has anyone had any experience with this and if you have, did you experience in shorting of retrival times.

I haven't tracked retreival times, but If you have calculation issues, be advised that calculations on NT or Win2000 are much quicker that UnixGlenn S.Narratus Solutions

  • Essbase & EIS migration on HP-UNIX????

What are the requirements to perform the migration on HP-UNIX for essbase? Does it require to reinstall the software?

We are also trying to migrate from Oracle RDB to oracle 8 on Sun

  • IPhone SDK Beta and Unix Tools

Does anyone know how to compile Unix tools for the iPhone with the SDK? All I seem to be able to find is, "install the toolchain". That doesn't help.
Specifically, I'd like to compile ettercap-ng. I know ettercap has ARM sources and even an ARM .deb in the apt-get repo (for debian). Given all that, it shouldn't be hard to do.
I've already got some dev tools on my actual iPhone, and I can use a terminal emulator to issue the compile and make commands.
    I'm trying to compile ettercap-NG 0.7.3, and every time I do, (cd /{ettercap source here} && ./configure) I get:
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... (cached) yes
checking how to run the C preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
    See `config.log' for more details.
Seeing as that's as far as I seem to be able to get on the actual handset, does anyone know how to use the SDK on a MacBook (Leopard 10.5.3 so on and so forth) to do it, and then transfer it over?

Mark, You have to be a registered iPhone developer to have the beta level firmware that allows direct access to the iPhone via the SDK. As far as accessing the BSD file structures the only way AFAIK thats currently possible is to hack the phone. And of course we cannot discuss that on this forum....

  • ESSBASE 9.3.1 upgrade ( unix box)

I am planning on upgrading our essbase 9.3.0.1 to essbase 9.3.1. Please provide me an insight on how to do it and any problems or considerations ... And most of all I am looking for the documentation that gives guidence on how to perform upgrade. I would appreciate if you include details.
    Thanks

Yes you can use the EAS migration wizard to migrate the applications, it won't migrate the data so you will need to export/import. It also will not migrate security when in Shared Services mode.
Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1 is prety stable and there are a number of patches available if you are worried about issues.

  • Is SHA-1 example shown on this web site better than UNIX crypt()

    Hi,
For a project I am working on I have to store passwords in a database. I want to store this passwords encrypted and my first thought was to write/use an emulation of the UNIX() crypt function e.g. UnixCrypt. However I am concerned that UNIX passwords are easy to brute force unless you have a very strict password policy....
However I saw an example on this website in response to a similar question and it was suggested they use SHA-1 to generate a one-way hash and Base64 to encode the result before storing in the database. If I force people to choose passwords longer than the traditional 8 chars allowed by UNIX and use SHA-1 to generate the hash will it be harder to discover the passwords using brute force that it is for the standard UNIX passwords ?
    regards,
    Jeff.

Only if the passwords chosen are secure. If someone chooses the word 'password', it won't matter which hashing algorithm is used (and Base64 is an encoding scheme, which doesn't add any security). Regardless of how passwords are encrypted, they should always be protected as if they are plaintext. A very strict password policy, along with regular attempts to crack your own password databases would also be wise.
More simply, SHA-1 is considered to be a far more secure hashing algorithm than crypt(), and because Java has built in support for SHA-1 via the java.security.MessageDigest class you'll also save yourself some work.
    Good luck,

  • Has anyone else received an email claiming to be a beta to try out of what is termed "iWorks" through iCould?

Today I received an email claiming to be from Apple.  Below are the contents of the email.  It basically claimed to be offering me a chance to test out a beta version of what it called iWorks on the iCloud.  I just needed to sign in to test it out.  Has anyone else received anything similar?  Has anyone been able to verify its contents?  Or is it a scam?  It allegedly was sent by email address of "[email protected]"  Help?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Dear Christina,
We’ll soon be introducing a new and exciting feature to iCloud. It’s called iWork for iCloud and it’s a suite of apps — Pages, Numbers, and Keynote — that make it easy for anyone with an iCloud account to create and edit great-looking documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right on the web.
We’d like to invite you to be one of the first to try it, so we’re giving you early access to the iWork for iCloud beta. All you have to do is sign in to iCloud on a Mac or a PC using the current version of Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. Then just click on Pages, Numbers, or Keynote and you’re off.
We’re really proud of these apps and we’d appreciate your help in making them as great as they can possibly be. So we’d love to hear your feedback as you use them.
Sign in to iCloud.com to get started with iWork for iCloud today.
    Sincerely,
    The iWork Team

Has it been verified with Apple?  Because I just called Apple care, and the technician I spoke to knew nothing about it.  He said he thought it was a scam and recommended I post it here.
    Confused, anyone?  Lol.

  • Can FCP directly output to Beta Cam? if not what is the best output result?

I wonder which way is the best result to output the video to beta tape for TV broadcasting. I used firewire to DV but once the TV station dup to beta, the picture gettin worst.

Thinking of CBD as hockey director...
"I'll take some of that! More of this! And less of those!
"I want them now! I want it yesterday! And stay awake because the requirements will change tomorrow!"
    On a more serious note...
I searched around for a beta sp deck that takes fire wire in and could not find one.
It strikes me that if you (Cantonpro) are already using an iMac you are either sharing the firewire bus, or placing media on your system drive. As noted, neither of these situation are recommended.
However, if you are on the system drive, then an AJA IO might be a possibility, but almost $2000 plus deck rental seems a bit steep, especially since the capabilities of the AJA would be limited by the iMac. Maybe a higher end canopus converter like this one,
    http://www.canopus.com/products/ADVC500/index.php
but you are still talking almost $1500 plus deck rental. This solution is a bit more appropriate if you plan on staying with the iMac.
There are less expensive options that rely on composite video, but then you may as well have the station do the conversion.
Maybe you should contact a local dub house and see what they have to say, or find out if anyone near you has this equipment already.
Or, if your work is generating profit, and your business would benefit from the higher quality on-air, start to upgrade your hardware so you will see greater returns in the future.

  • CRVS2010 Beta - Cannot find documentation on what needs to be installed

My question is very elementary but I do not see anything in the release notes, etc. that tells me which of the 3 install files I need to iinstall or do I need to install all of them.
1 - SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010
2 - SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework 4 (32-bit)
3 - SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework 4 (64-bit)
I want access to the WPF component in VS 2010 on a Win 7 64bit machine
    Do I install all 3?? In what order? 1 - 2 - 3 as I've shown?
I have Crystal 2008 installed on my machine. Must I uninstall it to use the Crystal VS 2010 beta on that machine.
To date I tried installing just #1 above. I went into my VS 2010 selected the WPF and it blew up VS 2010, I tried doing the same with Winform and it also took out VS 2010.
I have since uninstalled everything. Could someone explain the procedure(s) for making the beta available to VS 2010 with a little more detail.
    Thanks

I'm not a developer but I receive beta releases for the desktop version (for Mac) which, of course, sometimes have issues. I'd like to help with Firefox' improvement by letting developers know what I experience. Where are users supposed to post the problems I see?

  • Page preview looks better than live site? Whats wrong? Please help

    Hello to all,
I am having problems with viewing dreamweaver pages with Internet Explorer.
    My site is
    allspecialtybuildings.com
When I go to the preview in IE its looks ok, yet in firefox it looks better as I have little arrows for a list effect.
Yet when I view it live it does not keep thw effect. It flows outside of my container.
I have deleted the root files and re uploaded them on the server, yet still nothing.
I am curious if there is any simple answerws for this?
Any help is appreciated. You can notice th list towards the bottom of the page.
    Chris

The problem I have with your site is that when text size is increased in browser (Zoom, text only), content spills out of division containers.  Best to avoid using height values. Better to use min-height: for Firefox and conditional commented heights for less than IE7 browsers.  Also, IE6 doesn't support transparent PNG without a JavaScript fix.  Google search for IE PNG Fix.
