Essbase v7.1.2 and the License Server

Is anyone using the new License Server with Essbase? How is it working? I'm hesitant to make the jump, based on the numerous times Hyperion has screwed up our license keys. I'm concerned about the reliability, since the thing shuts down your Essbase access if there's any problem.

We have started using the licence server and have had some false starts due faults with the licence files. Also there has been a problem installing a new copy of essbase when using the licence server. Install works fine if you use the licence file locally on the essbase server, so we have done that first and then switched to the licence server post installation by editing the essbase.cfg file.

  • Is it possible to administer the license server from a remote computer?

    NI VLM and the license server service are running on a license server machine. Company policy prevents me from having admin access to the machine (which seems necessary in order to run NI VLM). Is it possible to administer the license server service from a remote machine? i.e., can I install NI VLM on a machine that is not the license server, but connect to and manage the license server service over the network? I can access the license server via RDP, but without admin access, I can't get very far.
    Is there any other way to manage the VLM without admin access to the machine it is running on?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hey Chris,
    I haven't heard of a case where someone was able to administer licenses via VLM without having administrator access. Is there any possibility of getting administrator access on the license server machine, even if it's through some sort of temporary account?

  • Best practice for deploying the license server

    Was wondering if there is a best practice guideline or a rule of thumb out there for deploying the license server. For instance, is it better to have one license server and all your products connect to that, dev, QA, prod. Or is it better to have a license server for each deployment, i.e. one for dev one for QA.. etc.

    Thanks.

    Yes, I am specifying the license server.  I've tried it both ways (specifying and not specifying the server).  Here is my code:
                        SAPbobsCOM.Company sapCompany = new SAPbobsCOM.Company();
                        sapCompany.Server = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SAPServerName"];
                        sapCompany.CompanyDB = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SAPCompany"];
                        sapCompany.UserName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SAPUserID"];
                        sapCompany.Password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SAPPassword"];
                        sapCompany.language = SAPbobsCOM.BoSuppLangs.ln_English;
                        sapCompany.LicenseServer = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SAPLicenseServer"];
                        sapCompany.DbServerType = SAPbobsCOM.BoDataServerTypes.dst_MSSQL2008;

  • Windows 2012. Assign RDS service Licensing Server on Standalone Server. Connect to the licensing server on the same server as RDS

    I have installed Windows Server 2012 Standard. I wish to run this server as a standalone server using local users as the authentication for RDS and not part of a domain. I have my RDS licenses loaded in RDS licensing service and all license show up
    in the Licensing Server.  I get events telling me to connect to a licensing server and I find no configuration tool now to connect to the local licensing service.  It will not let me connect to the licensing service on the same computer.

    Hi Bill,
    After referring to your post, we can understand that you are facing issue with licensing service for your RDS Server. As Ryan has provided great article for deploying RDSH server in workgroup mode you can refer that and also I would like you to check that have
    you specify a license Server for RDSH server to use. You can perform this setting under
    deployment properties of RD Licensing and specify the name of the server and in addition there is registry setting for this under below path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
    More information:

  • Essbase cannot start up after the DB server IP changed.

    Hi,
    My essbase is installed in server A and the DB server is in server B. For some reasons, the IP of DB Server (B) changed.
    Then the essbase cannot startup. When run the StartUpEssbase.sh, no error shows up.
    +[oracle@eucbi03 ~]$ ./StartUpEssbase.sh+
    Starting all
    Apache Ant version 1.7.0 compiled on December 13 2006
    Buildfile: /home/oracle/app/epm/EPMSystem11R1/common/config/11.1.2.0/resources/instance/start.xml
    Finish all
    Environment:
    Cent OS 6
    Essbase 11
    Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Alex

    Hi John,
    We didn't use the name for DB configuration. We used the IP. So I changed the 2 files.
    And very thanks for your information, I resolved the problem by the document you provided. Just as you said, it's no need to update the files.
    Here briefs the case and the solution:
    Problem:
    I used IP to config the DB server when setup the Essbase. But later, the IP of the DB server changed, the Essbase won't startup, either the administration services.
    Solution:
    1. Run the config tool (EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/config/version_numberconfigtool.sh) and change the DB server setting (fill the new IP for the db server, and choose 'reuse the database' when prompted)
    After this step, the essbase could startup. But administration services couldn't
    2. Go to weblogic admin console (http://ip:7001/console). Edit the JDBC data source setting from old DB server to new one
    After this step, the administration services could startup now.

  • Problems regarding access to the license server

    Hi there,
    I placed my question in the german forum, but maybe here are some more people who could help, therefore I place my question here again:
    I had to restore my system drive (windows) due to a hardware crash.
    I did this with a backup software called acronis and mostly everything looks fine.
    One major problem is, that I don't have proper access to the adobe license server since then.
    CC Desktop doesn't open and PS can't reach the license server as well.
    I found a german speaking webside from adobe with instructions, but they don't help:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/de/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html
    1. In general I have no problems to access the internet at all.
    2. Even SSL communication is no problem.
    3. I deactivated my anti virus software (kaspersky) without any change.
    4. I tested the link https://ims-na1.adobelogin.com/renga-idprovider/resources/img/logos.png  and it worked.
    5. Calling https://lm.licenses.adobe.com/ leads to -> Congratulations! You have successfully connected to Adobe License Management Server. -> which should be OK.
    6. There is no entry in my host file. Not from adobe, nor any other server.
    So, CC Desktop still can't access the license server.
    Any clue what to do ??????

    Hi Anji,
    Thanks for ur quick reply,
    Can u Allobarate some more  Regarding this.
    Please Answer This. Its very Urgent Please.........

  • SQL ENTERPRISE: The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database

    The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
    w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore

    Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
    Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
    That article says remote connections are completely supported.
    ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?

    Hi jeffoliver1000,
    According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
    In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
    actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
    please refer to the similar thread below:

  • The lease timeout between avaiability group and the Windows Server Failover Cluster has expired

    Hi,
    I am having some issues where I get a lease timeout from time to time.  I have a Windows 2012 Failover Cluster with 2 nodes and 2 SQL 2012 Always-on Availability Groups.  Both nodes
    are a physical machines and each node is the primary for an AG.
    From what I understand if
    the HealhCheckTimeout
    is exceeded without the signal exchange the lease is declared 'expired' and the SQL Server resource dll reports that the SQL Server availability group no longer 'looks alive' to the Windows cluster manager.  Here are the properties I have setup
    which are the default settings:
    LeaseTimeout - 20000
    HealthCheckTimeout - 30000
    VerboseLoging - 0>
    FailureConditionLevel – 3
    Here are the events that occur in the Application Event Viewer:
    Event ID 19407:
    The lease between availability group 'AG_NAME' and the Windows Server Failover Cluster has expired. A connectivity issue occurred between the instance of SQL Server and the Windows Server Failover
    Cluster. To determine whether the availability group is failing over correctly, check the corresponding availability group resource in the Windows Server Failover Cluster.
    Event ID 35285:
    The recovery LSN (120881:37533:1) was identified for the database with ID 32. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
    SQl server logs are too long to post in this box but I can send them if you request.
    The AG is setup to failover automatically but it did not failover.  I am trying to figure out why the lease timed out.  Thanks.

    From what I've been able to find out, this is due to an issue with the procedure sp_server_diagnostics.  It sounds like the cluster is expecting this procedure to regularly log good status "Clean" in the log files, but the procedure is designed not
    to flood the logs with "Clean" messages, so only reports changes, and does not make an entry when the last status was "Clean" and the current status is "Clean".  The result is that the cluster looks to be unresponsive.  However, once it initiates
    the failover, the primary machine responds, since it was never really down, and the failover operation stops.
    The end result is that there really never is a failover, but the database becomes unavailable for  a few minutes while this is resolved.
    I'm going to try setting the cluster's failure condition level to 2 (instead of 3) and see if that prevents the down time.

  • Jbuilder 6 and the J2EE server.

    I love Jbuilder and I have been using the J2EE Server(Through the Forte Ide) to develop a few J2EE applications. Is it possible to develop and deploy J2EE applications using only Jbuilder6 and the J2EE server.
    NB: Applications are for educational purposes.

    I'm presently trying to get the Java Pet Store demo
    http://interstagedemo.fs.fujitsu.com:8000/petstore/index.jsp
    working in JBuilder 7 Enterprise, and I've made at least some headway (some of the JPS 1.3_01 source files aren't in the right subdirectories- per their package declarations- which I've reported to Sun and which they've promised to fix in v1.3_02). JPS works out-of-the-box with the Cloudscape database that's distributed with J2EE v1.3, but at the moment, I can't figure out how to make the JPS connect to Cloudscape through JBuilder.
    Borland has their own J2EE server/container, and in fact I just received their 60-day trial on 2 CDs today ("Borland Solution for Java Trial" $19.90 US including shipping; includes JBuilder 7 Enterprise 30-day trial):
    http://shop.borland.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?V1=396710&PN=1&SP=10023&xid=39696&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=0
    BES (Borland Enterprise Server) claims to be well-integrated with JBuilder, so it may be a better bet than trying to use the freebie J2EE server, at least to start off with.

    1. I have Integration Server and Oracle on the same machine (windows 2008 R2 x64).
    2. I have created ODBC(system DSN) on the same server.
    3. I have a client machine (windows 7 x64) on which EIS console has installed.
    4. Error while connecting to the Server with IP address, the Catalog ODBC DSN drop down keeps on loading and results in No connection error.
    Tried:
    1. Created a ODBC with the same name as on the Server, ODBC has created. But from EIS Console, I enter the IP address of the Integration server, click on Catalog ODBC DSN, no connection error.
    No errors on Server log.
    The Port 3388 is opened.
    From Shell:
    Used the command LOGIN xx.x.x.x
    Results in Network error xxx.x.x.x:1423
    Essbase Server is just fine and can be connected from the same client machine from smartview,MAxl, EAS
