Estimate for Implementing Information Broadcasting

Hi,
Our customer is interested in installing the Information Broadcasting feature in their BW system. The BW version they have is SAP BW 3.5, data is fetched from different Legacy systems into the BW systems. No R3 is involved.
We have also got the requirements from the Client. They are now asking for an estimate to implement Broadcaster in their system. They need the reports to be sent to their E-mail ID's. I know there are steps like Installing Precalc server, adding Reciepient ID's, adding Reports, Time of execution are all involved in the Procedure but i am not sure about the time taken for this installments. It would be great if somebody provide me the approximate Estimate(Time taken for each step) for all these & anything if i have missed for.

Hi,
To configure Basis activity will come into picture.Be coz you will not be authorizations for relevant T-Codes for BEx broadcasting.
Like :
You need to configure the settings in SCOT T-Code some other seetings.BI role is very less in configuring BEx broadcasting.
So check with bases team how much time required for complete the Procees ( Check the steps for Installing BEx Broadcasting mentined by Marasa Naidu)

I need your help to set up Bex Broadcasting. We have a new implementation of BI 7 version year ago, I'm a BI developer and we don't have a team on BI, where as we have a team on ECC. If I want anything in BI, I need to give all specifications to my administartor who doesn't have much knowledge on BI.
My problem is I can able to broadcast reports from BI backend, but not from Bex Analyser. When I open Workbook in Bex Analyser, I can able to see enabled Bex broadcasting option in Context Menu from tools icon. But when I click on it nothing is happening. We don't have portal, I need to broadcast reports from Bex Analyzer.
Would you please assist me to know all required components needed to get Bex Broadcaster via Bex analyser. I need to assist my system admin to get this.
We are on BI Netweaver 2004s.
SAP GUI for Windows:
Release - 710 Final release
Patch level - 5
Recently upgraded Bex Analyser:
BI Add on 7.X(based on 7.10)
Support Package 10

BASIS Settings for Enabling Information Broadcasting in BW 7.0

What BASIS settings should I enable for Information Broadcast in BW 7.0. Email settings work fine in SCOT. When developer goes to Publish-> Bex Broadcaster, it does nothing. It should ideally pull IE. In Dev, it works fine but in QA it fails.

Is Precalculation server a prerequisite for Information broadcasting

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to know is installation and configuration of pecalculation server a prerequisite for enabling Information broadcasting feature in BW 3.5 i.e; inorder to send emails to users .I mean inorder to send mails to users is it necessary to install pecalculation server first.

The Precalculation server is only needed if you want to distribute workbooks. In order to distribute workbooks, the BW needs access to a computer with Excel on it. The precacluation server service software can be installed on a standard desktop PC. It can be installed on mutliple desktops, or you can consider a centralized server, but for initial testing, a desktop will do. There are a number of OSS Notes to apply, several from SP 17 that deal with problems occuring as a result trying to distribute multiple wkbks simultaneoulsy.
You do NOT need it to distribute either query links or html formatted output.
You also need an IGS server if you want to be able to send your output in a zip file format.
Don't have the link handy, but try searching SDN on Precacluation Server - there is a good paper (think it was a How To...) that was just written in April on troubleshooting Precalculation Server issues.

Basically, what you need to do is :
1. configure transaction SCOT to be able to send mails from bw server (maybe you'll need basis assistance)
2. send querys from information broadcasting in the bex query.
it´s a very simple task, for making it work.
depending on the scenario you want to do, it will vary what you need to customize (i mean, reporting agent, sending periodically querys, sending mails from bex, etc)

Some questions on Information Broadcasting

We're implementing Information Broadcasting. I have some questions and would be delighted if you could answer some or all of them!!
1. When using Web-templates I get the following message after opening my zip-file (Independent HTML-file) thru e-mail:
- Bex Broadcaster does not support Precalculation. What's the meaning of this? We get precalculate figures.
- The broadcaster demands that Javascript can be executed in the browser. How to solve?
2. When I broadcast a query as zip-file HTML with seperate MIME files then the precalculated views do not have drilldown functionality, i.e. the navigation block functionality does not work (static). I put navigation on Distribution channel. Is this normal way of working?
3. Broadcast functionality does not give possibility for Distribution type: 'Export to Enterprise Portal'.
We have an Enterprise Portal. Is additional customizing required?
4. Process chains have the Event Data Change process. This only works if I attach it directly to a cube. When I connect it to the process load data (i.e. to an Infopackage) it does not work. Any ideas?

Hi Harjan,
Not sure what the issue is with regard to (1).
With regard to (2), you need to to click on the 'Filter Navigation' tab in the BEx Broadcaster, enavle filtering, and select the characteristics you wish to filter on.

Information Broadcasting on Portal and KM

Hello all,
We are about to implement a BI-Portal integration for information broadcasting soon. At present we are planning to integrate BI and it's BI runtime portal for information broadcasting - and our BI Portal does not have KM or TREX yet.
I would just like to confirm one issue. I've read materials but I'm still not 100% sure on this issue: does Information Broadcasting require the KM installation together with the EP?
It says on the FAQ:
In addition, using Broadcasting not only using e-mail but also with the SAP NetWeaver Portal requires the additional installation of a J2EE Server with SAP NetWeaver Portal or KM.
What I understand, do correct me if I'm wrong, is that when you publish into the Portal - it will reside on the PCD or in WebDAV (KM).
Question: is it mandatory to install KM for this scenario? Or can information broadcasting live by without KM?
I believe there are benefits on having KM - like subscriptions or have it accessible via BEx Portfolio under the business explorer role in the portal.. but I'm quite confused as to requiring to have KM installed.

It does appear that KM is required.. but some articles I've read did not point out it be mandatory. So overall, this one's kind of confusing -- well at least for me having no experience on BI-Portal integration.

Anyways, thanks again. And I will leave this thread open running and hopefully someone who has implemented Information Broadcasting can shed more light on this topic.

Information Broadcasting - Error in the Workbook

We are implementing Information broadcasting for the workbook. It works pretty good as far as running the workbook, scheduling the workbook on a precalc server. When we try to email the workbook we get the email but the file is corrupted. We see the following error on the precalc server log,

When we open the workbook we get a message that the excel is corrupted.
Has anyone had similar problems.

Check the below error in the workbook for reference field of the query.
E,608,Error in Calculation error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.,Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Refresh the work book and check it the values for the column. if you get the same error then check the corresponding reference value of the query. there might be some problems in the query/

Information Broadcaster- change attachment filename

Hello,
we're implementing Information Broadcasting to distribute csv-files to our information-consumers.
Now we have the problem that we want to change the generated attachment filename to a more meanful name.
Does anybody has a way to solve this problem?

If you don't want to display the footers in the broadcasted email then you can hide or remove it with settings. Please follow the below path and select for no footer.
SPRO -> SAP Reference IMG -> SAP Netweaver -> Business Intelligence -> Setting for Reporting and analysis->Settings for Information Broadcasting-> Settings for Distributing E-Mails.

Including the Trigger Event Data Change (for Broadcaster) process type in process chains that load data allows you to process broadcast settings when data is changed. The Trigger Event Data Change (for Broadcaster) process type is added to the data load processes. In this process type, you can choose the changed InfoProvider for which information broadcasting can be triggered.
The end users that have created settings for precalculation and distribution in the BEx Broadcaster can specify when scheduling their broadcast settings that the precalculation and distribution be executed whenever there is a data change in the InfoProvider on which the scheduled BI object (query, query view, Web template, report, or workbook) is based.

Setting Up Basic Information Broadcasting

Hi All,
I need to config for Basic Information Broadcasting, means I do not want to use portal only simple broadcasting on mail. I tried a little bit to config settings under 'BEx Web' and 'Settings for Information Broadcasting' in SPRO but I am confused what should be proper parameters to be maintained in those settings.
Please guide. I am using SAP BW SP19.

Hi Gupta,
Add on to previous response, you need not to have Pre-calculation server for Broadcasting reports.
Pre calculation server is required for work books only, you could make your PC as pre-calclation server for testing purpose.
We have plenty of documents for IB configurations, please check out in forum.

Information broadcasting - web template help

Hi
We are using the standard 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN template ( though saved it as a Z template ). When I click on the Send icon ( for emailing the report ) , a new page opens up which provides me the following tabs :
1.Data Analysis
2.Graphical display
3.Information
4.Information Broadcasting
I just need the tab for the information broadcasting when I click on send. Pls help me on how to achieve this.

Information broadcasting - precalculation error for BEx workbooks

Hi,
i have problem with Information broadcasting for BEx workbooks 7.0. At the log display of transaction RSRD_ADMIN i get a red status message with " Cannot precalculate workbook XYZ" -> connection transfer did not succeeded.
At the transaction RSPRECADMIN -> show queue (program: RS_PREC_SHOW_QUEUE) , i see that the request is listed as "successful precalculations" (?!)
Some hints:
-Further tests (2 days ago) were successful for workbooks and query email-bursting
-Precalculation server is switching between green and yellow status every refresh
Do you have any ideas or hints?

Hello,
I would like to suggest you something:
Go to Windows -> Services (Start -> RUN -> Services.msc)
Stop the SAP Precalc. Server
Start the SAP Precal. Server Multi-instance.
ON THE PRECALCULATION SERVER, access your system via SAPGUI and go to RSPRECADMIN.
Then, there is the tip, register 10 times the Precalculation Server with different names.
E.g.
Precalc1
Precalc2
Precalc3
Precalc4
Precalc10
Then, test again.
