Estimating product life

I have several test stations that primarily have the following types of hardware:
PCI 16 series E DAQ Boards
SCXI 1000 & 1001 Chassis
SCXI 1102 Input modules
SCXI 1163 HV
SCXI 1162 HV
SCXI 1120 Input modules
SCXI 1125 Input modules
Some of these products are over seven years old now.
My question is this. Is there a good method of estimating failure rates for these products? I know this is a loaded question as application of the product will be a large factor in determining the mean failure rate. However, I still must budget for replacement or repair of these items. I appreciate any suggestion you might have on how to estimate this.
Thanks.
Randall

Hello Randall,
Thank you for posting to the NI discussion forums.  I believe what you are
looking for is the mean time before failure (MTBF) for the devices you listed.

  • News products life cycle

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me if there is a way or a tool on the Cisco website, to know the life cycle of a product? (end of maintenance, and of support, end of sale, end of life...)
    This concerns news products, not formers for which information is of course on the Cisco website
    best regards

    Neha,
    Yes, you can use the same Forecast profile for Lifecycle Planning which you use for Statistical Forecasting.
    In the Master Forecast Profile, Make sure you Activate the " Lifecycle Planning Active" indicator.
    Other required procedures being:
    Creating Like Profile
    Assigning the Like profile to Products/Characteristics in the Assignments section/table.
    Let me know if you have any questions,

  • Estimated Battery Life

    I just unpackaged my 13 inch MacBook Pro and re-calibrated the battery (drained battery and recharged). It still shows about 3 hours on the battery icon which is what it showed prior to the re-calibration. Given the reports of up to eight hours of battery life I was expecting to see a much higher estimate. Is this normal? Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.
    My battery profile looks like this:
    Charge Remaining: 5718
    Fully Charged: YES
    Charging: NO
    Full Charge Capacity: 5768
    Cycle Count: 3
    Condition: NORMAL
    Amperage: -2225
    Voltage: 12145

    Battery life depends very much on what you're doing with the system at the time. Apple's estimates are generally going to be pretty optimistic. Like what you'd get if screen brightness were at it's minimum, the system was just sitting idle, doing nothing at all, and every possible power saving trick had been employed.
    The more parts of your laptop are active however, the more power they draw, and thus the faster the battery drains. So, battery life figures are never reliable. One person's experience will never match that of the next.

    You can try this....
    In the first page when user click the update button you can get that value and set this to request level like given below,
    public void processFormRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
    super.processFormRequest(pageContext, webBean);
    OAApplicationModule am = pageContext.getApplicationModule(webBean);
    if(pageContext.getParameter("Update")!=null) {
    //Get the value of required field and set that in parameter
    pageContext.putParameter("LogItem",pageContext.getParameter("longItemID"));
    In other page you can get that value through getParameter method in FormRequest Method
    public void processRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
    super.processRequest(pageContext, webBean);
    String longItemDesc = pageContext.getParameter("LogItem");
    OAMessageStyledTextBean bean = (OAMessageStyledTextBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("BeanName");
    bean.setText(pageContext,longItemDesc);

  • Quarterly Cost estimation - Production Costing - Costing Run

    Dear Experts,
    is it possible to run CK40N on quarterly basis - at presrnt we are using this function on monthly basis, but my client is asking to run this on quarterly basis.
    if yes please help me
    Regards

    Costing run will update standard costs and there will be any change in std costs only when say the quantity structure changes, BOM changes or overhead rates changes. If none of the above is changing, running CK40N will have no impact
    Which means that you can choose to run in quarterly as well.

  • Powerbook battery jumps remaining life VERY quickly

    I recently got a powerbook from a friend, and noticed some pretty wierd stuff going on with the battery. first, when I completly charge it, it will stay at about 98% charged for maybe 45 minutes saying there is 70 minutes remaining the entire time, never higher than that. then it will suddenly drop to 4% every time and give me about 7 minutes remaining. then I will charge it and it will go from 4% all the way up to 9% normally before it jumps back to 98%. I was looking through the posts on this forum and did not see anything like this, nor did I know what to search for, so I don't know where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Apple talks about a properly-maintained Powerbook or iBook battery being designed to retain 80% of its original charge capacity after 300 charge-discharge cycles (see the lower right sidebar on this page). The meaning of "properly maintained" is not explicitly spelled out anywhere that I know of, though one can infer some of it from the other contents of that article. A battery that has ever been exposed to intense heat (e.g., left in a closed car in the summer sun) is likely to be permanently damaged, and I wouldn't expect it to behave as intended thereafter. When buying a used computer (or battery), one has no way of knowing what abuses it may have suffered in the past.
    It's one of the hallmarks of a damaged or defective battery, or even just a well-maintained battery approaching the end of a long and productive life, to become unable to report plausible or accurate information about itself: its current charge level, its charge capacity, or the estimated running time remaining on a charge. All of these readouts, whether displayed in Apple System Profiler, through a third-party utility, or on the menu bar, can become wildly inaccurate, and it's very commonplace for the OS's weak-battery warnings to disappear, so that the Powerbook simply goes to sleep without any advance notice. When these things happen, replace the battery, no matter how many or few charge cycles it reports. If the battery is still new enough to be under a warranty, by all means appeal to the manufacturer, but I suspect the circumstances would have to be unusually clear-cut for such a claim to succeed.

  • 2013 Macbook Air 13" battery life not as good as advertised

    At full charge, the estimated battery life read a little over 17 hours. At 97%, it now reads 15:39. Like I get this is vastly better than the older Macbook Air, but it still falls quite short of the 24 hours advertised on the website. Currently, it is still at 97% but now the estimated battery running time reads 14:59. Is this normal? I accidentally drained my battery twice since I bought it at the beginning of August, and I understand that's not good for the newer batteries - could this be the reason? My screen brightness is at 50% and I have no movies or music playing. Safari is the only ap I have open.
    I'd appreciate any ideas or help with this problem (that is, if it is one).
    I just looked at the estimated time again, and while it is still at 97%, the estimated remaining time is at 13:48. It's taken me a little over a minute to type this.
    I'm not very tech-savy - is there something wrong with the way I understood the advertised battery life?

    The Air is nowhere advertised for 24 hrs. batt. life.........  in any configuration.

  • My battery is 100% yet the estimated time is 6:15 only. Why is this?

    Hello. I am new to Mac. I got my first MacBook Pro 15 with retina for Christmases and in that machine the estimated time always displayed more than 7 hours. Last week I replaced my laptop for one with 16GB. In the new machine the time usually show as 6:15 wit 100% charged battery. Can someone tell me if this is something I should be concerned about or is this due to some settings? Thank you in advance.

    You should consider yourself fortunate to be getting such battery life.  First the Apple advertised battery life hours are predicated on very 'ideal' conditions that the overwhelming amount of users do not adhere to.  If you get 60% - 70% of these figures in normal application usage, your are doing just fine.
    The estimated battery life figures that are displayed can vary radically.  They reflect the time left based on what is being done at that particular moment.  Open another application and the time will decrease.  Close an application, the time will increase.
    Increase of RAM will have no meaningful affect on battery life.  The number and type of applications that you are using are the determinants regarding battery life.
    here are a couple of support articles that you may find informative regarding your battery:

  • Battery life on Macbook Pro (3 hours?)

    I just got this laptop. It's a 15.4" MBP. I installed Snow Leopard on it from the upgrade DVD (from Leopard). All is well, but the estimated battery life is around 2:30 - 3:30. I've had the battery on charge for days and the button on the left of the mpb indicates a full charge.
    Is it some services that are running? Is the estimate just way off (I know they usually are)?
    My brightness is 3 blocks from full. I have iTunes (playing), Terminal (no activity), Adium, MacVim, iCal, Firefox running. Does this sound accurate?

    i have a unibody late 2008 w/c lasts about 2Hrs+ or 3Hrs max. is your macbook pro the built in battery?early 2009 and mid 2009 model?if so that doesn't sound right since the built in battery have 7hrs battery life "ideally" but reality its just 4-5hours. I've tested 3 of them already and all have same behaviors.(2mid 2009 macbook pro and 1 early 2009 macbook)
    Airport: off
    Bluetooth: off
    Brightness: 2 bars
    only running: safari and quicksilver
    no external device plugged in
    no CD inserted
    have the latest battery update and firmware update
    so yeah not a bug not an issue with battery but that's just how it is. Macworld already did some lab bench test on their own and so did the other mac fanatics. I just don't get why sometimes Apple says it will last 5hours if it won't.

  • Configuration product lifecycle in sap

    Hi,
    Could you pls help me to get a configuration document for product life cycle in SAP?
    Thanks,
    Vijesh

    Hi,
    I would recommend you have a look at the (cross-plant) material status and its related Customizing. This should help you with your product life-cycle status management:
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_07/helpdata/en/ff/515dd249d811d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm?frameset=/en/ff/515c2049d811d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm&current_toc=/en/ff/516a6749d811d182b80000e829fbfe/plain.htm&node_id=42
    On top of that, you could leverage SAP PLM Web UI Status and Action Management for managing the status changes:

  • Question about battery life

    Hi everyone,
    I got my refurbished MBP 13" mid 2010 model two Friday's ago (July 16) from the Apple online store and I have some questions about the battery life....
    Immediately after I got it, I followed all the battery calibration instructions from apple.com/batteries (and did it again after it because I was unsure if I did it properly). While it was charging, I was installing some recommended applications, one being coconutBattery. In the additional information section, it said that my MBP was 7 weeks old, has gone threw 10 battery load cycles, and had a original battery capacity of 97%. I am now at 17 loadcycles, with 94% original battery capacity.
    Now to how much time I get with the battery... I have done some testing of my own, such as watching some movies (Tron and Star Trek First Contact, I'm a geek :D), basic web browsing (5 tabs open, reading blogs, watching a couple of 3 minute youtube videos) and listening to an audio book (iWoz) with a tab or two open. The best battery life I have gotten (basic web browsing) was 5 1/2 hours, with 60% LCD brightness, keyboard backlight off, and bluetooth off, with just Chrome and coconutBattery open.
    Is this the average battery life for everyone else? I bought this because of its supposedly good battery life, and though I am very happy with my purchase, I just want to make sure that I have a fully working MBP.
    Some other notes:
    The battery meter next to the clock sometimes says that 98% is fully charged (I think it is just a glitch)
    The estimated battery life is between 9-11 hours when brightness is at 30%-40%, airport and bluetooth is off, and keyboard backlight is off when I am doing text editing.
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT: Forgot to say I have the 2.4ghz 250gb model.

    My MBP has been plugged in and fully charged for the past 2 hours and everything listed here has been the same, and here is some information in coconutBattery:
    Current Battery Charge: 5434 mAh
    Maximum Battery Charge:5490 mAh
    Current Battery Capacity:5490 mAh
    Original Battery Capacity:5770 mAh
    Battery-Loadcycles: 17
    Age of your Mac: 2 months (I have had it 2 weeks)
    Charger is connected: Yes
    Battery is charging: No
