Estimating Size of backup Items taking considerable amount of time?

The part of the Azure Online Backup that does the "estimating size of back items" is taking hours to complete.   Is there anyway to speed it up?  I want to be backing up files right away, not have to wait for an estimate of size.

Hi,
the message might be little misleading but as part of estimating size of the backup items, we enumerate what all files and directories need to be backed up based on whether they changed from last backup and then start backing them up. if you have huge amount
of files and directories say like a build server then its likely you will be seeing this. We already have a feature request to improve this for such kind of workloads.
Thanks

  • Update 3.1.3 Vault backup takes an inordinate amount of time...

Installed the update, 3.1.3. Now clicking Vault icon to update the Vault, the update takes an inordinate amount of time. In addition after the update the Vault icon, lower left, remains red.
Normal Vault update goes to the server, prior to the update it ran quite fast then icon turned black. As a test I created a new Vault on my Desktop (deleted the original), again update takes an inordinate amount of time, still the Vault icon is red.
    MacBook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 10.6.8, 2.4 GHz i5.

    Hi shutterp33d,
That speed answer is a yes and no. To the local drive yes speed is almost where it was prior to the 3.1.3 update. Over to the network drive it is quite slow. Even direct connected to an external vault update is much slower than before the 3.1.3 update.
My network is AirPort Extreme to which I have a Pogoplug connected with RJ45, a Seagate 1.5 TB external drive is connected to the Pogoplug via USB 2.0.
At present Aperture vault update has been running forty-five minutes being one third through. So, shutdown the Pogoplug did a direct cable connect to the Seagate from the laptop still vault update is taking a longer time than before the update.
This time the icon has changed from red to black. Then I disconnected the USB cable direct connect, reconnected the external to the the Pogoplug. Maybe this is a Pogoplug hit maybe not.
    Thank you for listening.

  • CheckTLFFontsLoaded taking large amount of time every frame

After trying to figure out why converting all our text fields to TLF is hammering performance for ages, I've finally discovered the culprit function that is taking so long on every single frame:
    RuntimeManager$.checkTLFFontsLoaded (fl.text)
This function often spends more than 10 ms running each frame, and is by far the longest running function in our application's action script every single frame.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of what calls this function so I know what to start looking for in my code?
I posted this question on the TLF forums but was told to come here because fl.text.RuntimeManager is a class of Flash Pro not TLF.

fl.text.RuntimeManager is not a class of TLF but Flash Pro. Here we mainly focus on TLF, which includes classes in textLayout.swc. So you may want to duplicate your question to http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash. Thanks!

What bothers me is when I do get a new iOS device, iPad and/or iPhone 5, and I don't want to just copy the back-up of my current iOS device to the new one, then to get the apps I want I will have to scroll through countless useless 'trash' applications in my purchase history to 'cloud download' the ones I want.
Just sync the apps you want from your computer. You don't need to redownload them directly on the iPhone Purchased list.
Will Apple be employing such a feature, a 'permanently delete/un-purchase' feature?

  • Song and Video downloading taking long amounts of time.

I have been trying to download a 5 minute music video, and the process has taken over an hour so far. I am wondering if there is any setting I could change, or something wrong on my PC that is causing this.

I'm using a cable connection from a wireless router, and I'm getting 11.00 Mbps. the strange thing is, it's never done this before. Just yesterday, everything started downloading really slow.

  • Changes to guest taking excessive amount of time

I have a 4 node hyper-v cluster running. All nodes are server 2012r2 and the cluster is present in scvmm (scvmm 2012r2).
The only issue I seem to have is actions that actions such as changing guest hardware, cluster refreshes and even guest shutdown take a long time.
Below is an example where I added 2 nic to a virtual guest, the whole process took 15 minutes. Is that normal? cluster refreshes have been known to take an hour and to shutdown a guest it is quicker to remote desktop and shutdown than issue the command from
    scvmm.
I've read about a similar issue related to CSV and server 2008r2 but I can't find anything related to server 2012r2 and this issue. Any help appreciated even if it is just a "thats how long it is supposed to take"

Usually the delay is in the details, the validations, the checks that the change was applied.
The fastest is not to modify the VM after deployment, but do it prior to deployment, or modify the template itself before deployment.
You are right, adding a NIC should not take minutes.  Unless there is something else happening in the background that is not finished yet.

  • Connection to database takes a considerable amount of time

    Hi,
This is basically an IDS 10g thing. Same issue in Reports
    1. Whenever I connect to Oracle 10g by pressing CTRL J, it takes like 4-5 mins to connect to Oracle. This only happens once till I close down Forms 10g and reopen it.
    2. A related thing, I cannot FILE-OPEN any .fmb file till I first connect to database, or else I just get one of those windows errors (not responding) and the form builder crashes.
    Environment:
    1. Windows 7 x64 and x86
    2. Windows 8 x64
    3. Connecting to Oracle 10g.
i7 processor 8gb ram, plenty of hard drive space.
Why does this happen, how do I fix it?

  • Drop Command taking considerable time!!!

    Hi guys,
In the morning i had asked u alll about Truncate command taking time.
I used "Truncate <table> reuse storage" for truncating the table. It worked fine.
Now, when i'am dropping that same table due to some change in our plan, this is also taking considerable amount of time...
    FYI,
The tablespace is Dictionary Managed Tablespace and the Oracle Version for this is 9.2.0.8.
    Can somebody help...
    Regards,
    Nick.

    Hi
    1. Note 68836.1 spells out a method to do this. Basically, it involves
    a) truncate table reuse storage.
    b) Then releasing extents slowly spreading it over many nights.
    Night 1:
SQL> ALTER TABLE BIGTAB DEALLOCATE UNUSED KEEP 1707M; (2Gb*5/6)
    Night 2:
SQL> ALTER TABLE BIGTAB DEALLOCATE UNUSED KEEP 1365M; (2Gb*4/6)
    Night 3:
SQL> ALTER TABLE BIGTAB DEALLOCATE UNUSED KEEP 1024M; (2Gb*3/6)
But, you are out of luck. Since you have already started dropping the table, if you interrupt it, smon needs to cleanup. That might take longer time.
    2. Another option, need to be planned better, is to convert Dictionary managed to locally managed tablespaces first and then drop the table. I never tested this method, but giving you an option.
dbms_space_admin.tablespace_migrate_to_local call can be used to convert from dictionary to locally managed tablespace.
    Cheers

  • Is there any way to connect time capsule to a MacBook Pro directly via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...)?

Perhaps via USB. I have a large amount of data that I want to back up and it is taking a very long time (35GB is taking 3 hrs, I have 2TB if files in total)...? I want to use TimeCapsule as back-up for an archive which is curently stored on a 2 TB WESC HD.

No, you cannot backup via direct usb connection..
But gigabit ethernet is much faster anyway.. are you connected directly by ethernet?
Is the drive you are backing up from plugged into the TC? That will slow it down something chronic.. plug that drive in by its fastest connection method.. WESC sorry I have no idea. If ethernet use that.. otherwise USB direct to the computer.. always think what way the files come and go.. but since you are copying from the computer everything has to go that way.. it makes things slower if they go over the same cable.. if you catch the drift.

  • To calculate the size of backup for a particular database in RMAN catalog

    Hi ALL,
Could you please guide me how I can calculate the size of backup data for a particular database in Recovery Catalog, if I am using Tapes as my backup media for recovery catalog.

    Hi,
I am not Up to the mark of your question ..
If you see the V$log you can get it.. Size of the redo logs can be determined either by examining the file system size or by reading the BYTES column on the V$LOG view. Then Check the number of redo Logs avaialble checked whether they are mirrored or etc., Combining the two figures we have a total redo log data at peak in one day. This is the amount of data that any backup facility or storage of Archive Redo Logs would have to take into account. This figure should be mitigated against the fact that manual switching of redo logs means that not all archived redo logs will be the full size.

  • First backup is taking forever (more than two days) in my MacBook Air

First backup is taking forever , painfully slow, I am using MacBook Air, what can I do to speed things up. is there a particular way to set TC up ?? I set it up to join an existing wireless network, is this right or wrong? I just need a few tips to make the backup faster.

Answer: yes, the Time Capsule is junk - in my opinion. I was excited about an all-in-one router plus 1TB of backup wirelessly available, but if you check the many posts about this thing, you'll hear about numerous problems:
    - unbelievably slow backups, overnight or longer for the first, very long for even small backups after minor activity - and not necessarily due to network speeds.
    - heat issues - this thing runs very hot, even with fans running, and people have had to put little rubber feet under it to improve airflow, etc. - not something I think is reasonable for a $500+ item - some get an "overheating" message from the utility app.
    - problems with hanging - it hangs on "Preparing Backup" (as it did for me for days) and doesn't backup - thereby making the unit useless as it was designed.
    - mounting and recognition issues - not so much with me but for quite a few others.
SEND IT BACK... I am sending mine back and going back to manual backups where I can see exactly what is being backed up to my external HDD and where it is. The opaque nature of the entire Time Machine backup is irritating to me - TC was "backing up" say, "75MB of 125.3MB" but I had no idea what it was backing up, and why only 125.3MB? Was that all my activity changed during the session? Or all sorts of system files, etc. being backed up? I'm not techie enough to get into the guts of it, so I am going back to my usual external HDD to do it by hand. It's a good habit to get into (if inconvenient compared to the TC) but at least I am secure with it.
I am also not sure if TC can be used as a plug-and-play USB storage drive if I were to, say, just connect it to a Windows machine and try to access files in folders. I suppose not?

My pc has crashed and lost a considerable amount of music and videos from iTunes the files are still in iTunes but are empty, will iTunes Match restore my content over the cloud?

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • Time Machine size discrepancy / backup fail

Hi! For a few weeks now my Time Machine backups have ceased to work, with an error that they are too big for the drive. While I only have a 500GB drive, my total size of the backup has always been well within that (thanks to the exclusions I have set up, mostly for my video projects).
I've finally had a chance to look through my files and determine that the only truly gargantuan folder was indeed my Videos folder, but it is excluded.
Here's the nub of my problem / question:
My Time Machine panel under Options says the estimated size of the full backup is 274 GB. But backups fail with a message that the backup requires 849GB! That's way more than the 20% overhead I know TM requires in addition to the backup size.
This seems to be the key to why my backups are failing.
Can anyone suggest a course of action?
    Thanks!
    Adam

ARGH! Would you believe that - only days after I fixed it with the combo update - it happened again?
Well, it did. "The backup requires 847.90 GB but only 93.79 GB are available."
847 GB? The "Estimated size of full backup" in the exceptions window is 276.88 GB.
    Just like before.
I did run a Repair Permissions after the combo update as suggested... just to rule that out...
Just in case it's at all helpful, I'm including the info from the Dashboard widget that reveals Time Machine log info - first for the last successful backup, then for the first one to fail.
    Sigh...

  • Time machine backups have slowed considerably since my installation of Mavericks -- why?

Ever since installation of Mavericks, time machine backups have slowed to a crawl.  The message preparing backup used to to take 10 seconds to a minute, now it takes 5 minutes.  The status of the backup used to show 10mb's of 80 mb's backed up, and take under 1 minute, now it takes 5 minutes.  Finally cleaning up notice, and the time to clean up has increased significantly.  My backups go to an external HD (7200rpm) connected vis firewire 800, that has approx 180 gigabytes available of its 1 terrabybyte capacity.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion a few weeks ago. Everything was fine with Time Machine until a few of days ago.
Same problem others described: extremely slow, taking hours to back up just a few MB.
I verified the Time Capsule drive and my Mac hard drive - no problems found.
I then erased the Time Capsule and started Time Machine. It did the full backup in a fairly reasonable amount of time (several hours, but not unexpectedly long).
When it started its first incremental backup, it reverted to the same problem: extremely slow, but it did finish eventually.
I then shut down the Mac and restarted (power cycled) the Time Capsule. Then I started up the Mac and told Time Machine to back up now. It backed up 30+ MB in just a few minutes, so it seems back to normal. We'll see how it goes when the next scheduled backup starts up.
But you might try rebooting the Time Capsule (and your Mac).
By the way, when it was in the middle of the extremely slow backup, I disabled Norton Anti-virus and it didn't seem to speed it up any. But I left it disabled after I rebooted the Time Capsule and had a successful incremental backup, so I'm not sure yet if Norton is a factor.
