Estimating Video Size for Project

Hello All,
I have captured 626x480 video from a camcorder and wish to author a dvd5 project but I am uncertain as to how to estimate the video's running time such that it fits onto a 4.7gb dvd. Is this a way in imovie to notify the user if such a video would surpass this limit?
My workflow would be the following, edit the raw footage then export the video (Large 720x540) and from idvd import the video file. Does this make sense?
Thanks.

iDVD has a hard limit of 2 hours total video on a DVD-5, including video embedded in menus. By minimizing the length of menu video loops I have been able to get up to 115 minutes of actual video using the Professional Quality option for DVD compression (which takes longer to process).
If you want to include extras such as still photos on the DVD, you will reduce your running time proportionally to the space they use.
The expensive professional compression software in Final Cut Studio will let you get more video on a DVD by using a lower bit rate, if you are willing to accept a loss in quality. You also have to be willing to learn how to use a very complex program with a lot of options.

  • HELP ! Need to change video size in project sequence...

When creating a project last month I accidently created it as 1280x960 in the sequence settings, but meant to create it as a 1920x1080 which is what all the video clips are in size. Now I have this nicely edited project but need to convert it to a 1920x1080 in the sequence settings so I can export it as that size. When I go into the sequence settings now this option is grayed out and it won't let me. I have read many forums and they say it’s as simple as creating a new sequence with the right settings and importing the old sequence but when I do this it is still as 1280x960. So my question is other than re-editing this entire project, how can I take this current project with sequence settings as 1280x960 and change the video size to 1920x1080 (Which is what the video clips are originally and when I right click on the individual videos it says 1920x1080). PLEASE help, I am using PP CS5 !!! This is so frustrating !

Create a new Sequence with the settings you prefer,
then Copy > Paste the clips into the new Sequence.
Be sure that your Sequence settings match your footage by doing this:
Or, right-click a media file and select 'New Sequence From Clip".
How do I choose the right sequence settings?

    note:
You may need to re-create audio effects that you applied in the Mixer
in the first Sequence, or you can use your first Sequence as a mixed,
nested audio track for the new properly configured Sequence.

  • Which video size for webpage background?

Hi, my client was interested in having a video run full screen, as background of a webpage, similar to this:
    http://www.shutterstock.com/video/landing/beach
I have never worked on a video project made for the web (other than YouTube), so I was unsure about the size to use for the project/ the size and type to export as from Premiere.
The client wants to use several stock videos. On Shuttershock, you have three options of size for downloading the video as 1)Web 2)SD (852 x 480)  3)HD (1920 x 1080)
My first inclination was to use the Web size (due to bandwidth, etc), but it's only 426x240. I was afraid it'll show as poor quality if set up as the page's entire background. Ideally, something like HD would be great visually, but wouldn't the size of the video be too much to handle as the background of a  webpage (not sure if it's going to be implemented within the html, but I'd imagine so)?
I don't know much about webpage building or anything, so any information would be helpful! Thanks!

The width of the video should match the width of the website page.
eg 960px is a common width for site pages.
    Ask the site designer.

  • Best Video Size for YouTube

I know YouTube says to post videos at 320x240 but they upscale the image so the videos do not play at 320x240. I have a question into YouTube but they may take days to respond. I've searched through many YouTube questions here and found different information.
My question is what is the playback size for the videos on YouTube? I want to make my videos the same size so they won't be upscaled, thus quality lost.
I've read here that YouTube plays back at 425x350 while another says 450x357. Anyone know?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Wow, thanks for that in-depth reading!
Two things: first, I am going to post the direct link to your download here:
    http://www.kenstone3.net/fcphomepage/images_youtube_compressor_gary/Youtube_comppresets.zip
(it is kind of hidden in the middle of the text)
Secondly, in playing with these presets, I disagree about the de-interlacing not taking any extra time. In my tests, your SD preset said it was going to take four hours to finish a five minute clip of mine.... disabling the de-interlacing, it jumps to four minutes to complete. I will do both and see how much visual difference there is, but that is substantial for me! (sixty times as long)
Any who, I am running some different tests... will let you know once I have some results of my own.

  • Video filter for projecting

my videos look washed out on my projector, broadcast safe never makes a difference, is there a filter that i can use to keep the quality so that my video can will be very close to what i produced.
    nathan

You are comparing the image coming from your computer or television which emits light to a projector screen which reflects light.
The reflected image from a projection screen is much more susceptible to interference from ambient lighting conditions -one reason why movie theatres have dark colored walls, as well as very low lighting. Theatre screens also have a special chemical, aluminum or glass bead coating to amplify the contrast.
Projecting onto the wall of a typical home or conference room where the walls more often than not are light colors, increases the amount of ambient light and reduces the contrast.
As Studio X points out, using a calibrated external monitor will let you know that the video signal is good, but that all goes out of the window if the screen and room are not optimized for projection.

  • Optimizing file size for project (Splitting)

    Hi,
I have recently taught myself Captivate 4 and have nearly pieced together all the requirements of a training video. There is no user interactions or quizzes. I am still not sure what is the best method to present the video. I want to publish to our intranet using Flash.
I captured a video using the inbuilt Automatic Recording Mode (so most of the slides are stills with a couple of  FMR sldes) This produced a project with 140 slides. I understand after reading topics about file size reduction, you should try and keep projects around 60 slides. Therefore my question is do I cut this project up into three smaller projects (VideoPt1.cp VideoPt2.cp etc) then in the first project set the last slide to open Videopt2.cp and then repeat this for each project. Then publish the first project to flash. (Which is a very tedious task and I am sure there must be a better way to do this)
When I do this and review the output when it gets to the end of the first section, it errors and says cannot find next file.
I checked the adobe help file but does not seem to offer much explanation on the topic. Just two flavours (open file/URL or Project)
Are there better ways of doing this, the Aggregator seems to offer a sort of solution but I dont want a user seeing multiple chapters for what is in effect one chapter.
    Cheers exup

  • How to fit video size into project (change dimensions)

    Hello,
I'm trying to make a short film (~5 minutes length), which includes photos and videos. I understand that MPEG-2 is the best format to work with, so I converted my videos (4 of them) into MPEG-2. The project size in PrPro CS4 is 960x720, 25fps, 48000 hertz stereo. The videos were taken from iphone (mp4) and Windows Live Movie Maker (wmv), and converted into MPEG-2 with Xilisoft Video Converter. They are in different dimensions (for example, the wmv is 1080p, so it doesn't fit my project), and the mp4 is rotated 90 degrees, so it needs to be flipped and I guess resize to a height of 720p.
Unfortunately my computer is 2.2ghz core2duo with 2GB RAM running on Windows 7 32-bit. I must create this video on this computer. If I will use the native files, how can I fit them into my project size (960x720)? how can I set different dimensions to the videos?
Thank you in advance for your support
    Tom

    Tom,
What version of PrPro are you working with?
Actually, MPEG-2 is not a good format/CODEC to use, as it is both heavily compressed, and is in GOP (Group of Pictures) structure. The version of PrPro, that you have, might well define the best format to use, and maybe even not need to convert.
Unfortunately, the Live version of WMM will only Export to WMV, where the "non-Live," older version, can Export to DV-AVI, though only Type I, and not Type II.
In general, for an SD Project, DV-AVI Type II is as good, as it gets.
The Frame Size of your Project is a bit odd. What prompted you to chose that?
Good luck, and let us know just a bit more.

    not with iM08/09..
for iMHD6 there are $$ plug-ins avail, which add this to iMovie..
consider usage/purchase of FinalCutExpress for elaborated editing and post production ..

  • What is the best working video size for Ipod Touch 4G?

I have tried 960x640 or 720x480 with the aspect set to 3:2 when converting.
But itunes keeps telling me that they dont work on my ipod so I have to convert them again.
Please someone tell me how to put videos on my ipod while keeping the best quality possible.

How are you converting? Presets for Handbrake are available for the iPad and iPhone 4 and should work for the 4G iPod. See:

    Rithu,
This would be a good place to start: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff628958(v=office.14).aspx
There are also several videos on Youtube as well. I am not sure if there is a 'structured' course available for Project Server 2010

  • Video file for iPad retina

    Hello everybody
I'd like to know what is the best file i can place in an article that will be displayed ONLY on iPad retina : is it useful to have a video file that is 2048 x 1536 (means : damn heavy) or must I stick to the 1024*768 ?
    Thanx a lot

The largest supported video size for the retina iPad is 1920x1080p. Determining the right video size depends on a number of factors. If you have a short video with lots of movement, 1920x1080 might be the right choice. If you have a long video with a talking head, using the maximum video size increases the folio size unnecessarily.

  • Determining Estimated Bean Sizes

    Hi,
When setting up an application-level entity bean cache[b], as well as setting the total megabyte value for the cache, we are required to set the [b]estimated-bean-size for each bean using the cache.
I guess the class sizes (bean class + container geenrated bean subclass + EJB Local object class) would not be an accurate way to arrive at the estimated bean size. What is the best approach to determining the estimated bean size?
Also, is there any way to monitor such application-level caches in the console? I am unable to find anything regarding this.
We are using WLS 7.0 service pack 1.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
    Cheers,
    Santosh

    Hello,
I am using java version "1.4.1_03" with weblogic 8.1 sp1. In order to get estimated bean size we ran weblogic with hprof on. Hprof shows the size of the object it's profiling:
To run with java with hprof:
    java -Xrunhprof:heap=sites
these settings produce a reduced log but it will still be quite large.
The section your interested in is:
SITES BEGIN (ordered by live bytes) Wed Aug 4 09:33:36 2004
    percent live alloc'ed stack class
rank self accum bytes objs bytes objs trace name

    4 1.91% 90.44% 50240 232 50240 232 1 [B
You can see the size of your objects here. I don'r now if there are any issues with accuracy but this looks ok.
