Man-Hours Estimation template for BW objects

Hi,
I tried to search for specific templates relating to Man-Hours Estimation for the development of BW objects like Extractor programs,datasources, infosources , Info Providers , Queries , Web reports etc. But I was not that successful.
It would be great if anybody helps me in finding/making such template or the root/means(Links or documents) of creating the template.

for our tasks concerning our BW-SEM system we use an Excel list with the following columns: Area (e.g. data basis, operation,...), No. (serial number), Category (e.g. to-do, point at issue), Error(E)/Revision(R), Date of Admission, Description (e.g. technical name of BW object), Priority, Responsibility, Contact Person, Expense (man hours), Status (e.g. open, in process, done), Next Activity from, Date of Completion, Remarks.

Estimating complexity of template generation through Adobe LiveCycle...

Hi,
I need to estimate the effort based on low, medium and high complexity of templates generation through Adobe Livecycle. Suggest if there is any benchmark figures available for the same.

This may be a couple of known things; one is related to your specific installation (may have become corrupted if you did an upgrade from a previous version, especially if you upgraded from Beta?) Or, it may be related to a known SQL Server compatibility bug for which a hotfix will shortly be posted. (Problem with some Microsoft DLLs that get updated if you install SQL server).
If you have SQL Server installed, try looking on these forums for a patch that should be posted within the next 2 days. If not - please contact me directly, as I'd like to get someone on my development team to help look through your installation and see what the problem is, so we can fix this properly.

How to Find Actual Time Spent on a TASK in TFS 2013 by using the scrum template

Hi! Currently we are using the TFS 2013 version with Scrum template this template contains only Remaining work measure for Task item and there is no
other option for getting the Actual time spent on particular Task and Bug having the option called Effort. How to find the Actual Time spent or Actual effort hours on particular TASK is it possible? In the similar way the Agile Template having the These options
like
1 Original Estimate
2 Completed Work
3 Remaining Work
Can i use these 3 for Scrum Templete also?
We require the feature similarly like Atlasian JIRA product (JIRA consist the Actual time, Estimation Time and Log).

The Scrum template doesn't have these fields, tracking "spent time" is not really in line the philosophy of Scrum. it's tracking data that is not really useful anyway, unless you have to do some form of reporting. In which case you probably already
have a system to track time in at a higher level.
The way TFS tracks time is very hard to use when you have a highly collaborative team, it would require you to create tasks for each person contributing to a task or constant re-asssigning of tasks to track the correct time spent. How else would you track
two peopleworking together? Pair programming, for example is a practice we at scrum.org highly promote. As well as pairing a tester and a developer up on applying ATDD when working on a story together. When a story is taking "too long" to move off
the board a technique called swarming is often applied, in which all team members help out to move the story along at a higher pace or to get it unstuck. These ways of workign are very, very, very hard to capture in TFS. But we think the threshold to use these
techniques should be very low. People should default to these ways of working and not be punished by bad functioning tooling.
As mentioned by Alexandr, you can extend the Scrum template with the same fields the MSF templates use, but I would not recommend it. Instead, if you need to track time, first consider doing it in different tool and at a different level than task. Maybe
feature, activity or product backlog item.
If you still want to track time, then a tool like
Imaginet Time Sheet can extend TFS in ways that make it a lot easier to track time against any work item.
As a last resort, consider
adding the fields from the MSF template, but I beg you to reconsider.

Looong render times with motion templates

I've been a big advocate for FCPX as there are a lot of great features but there are some things that are just killing me, no.1 render time.
I'm working on some simple presentation edits using motion templates I have built in motion 5 and published to fcpx. The templates all consist of a single dropbox for video with a type field for test messages next to it. These are against a flat white rectangle used to reflect (similar to the coverflow but against a white background) and a subtle camera sweep has been added so it slowly turns from one side to the other by 30 degrees. Each of these is 10 seconds long.
I chop up my imported movie on the timeline (untouched by grade/fx/retiming) and add the template to each of the chopped clips. I then select each applied template in the timeline and use the video well to select the clip below it for the dropzone. I add my text. That's all good. I now have a timeline approx 3 minutes long consisting of these motion graphics templates.
Now, if I chose to either render or export a QT with timeline settings, estimated time is 8 - 9 hrs (I have tried both) I left a 3:30 project exporting last night at 11:45. It finished at 9:00AM.
That is just unacceptable. It is irritating because the functionality of building the sequences in FCPX far outweighs what FCP 7 is capable of but the so-called "renderless" abilities of FCPX
are making life ****.
I use Event Manager X to turn off everything I am not using except the individual project. I have reset preferences in Preference Manager to see if that helps. I have purged using terminal. I have my clips on an external firewire 800 HD. I have no other software running. I accept I need a more powerful Mac - I'm using a 2009 3 Ghz Intel Core Duo iMac with 6gig ram using Lion 10.7.2 and FCPX 10.0.2 but 9 hours for a 3:30 clip?
Any suggestions for where I can cut down on render time are appreciated. The source clip for the video for the dropzones and the final exported presentation movie are HD ProRes.

The situation you describe does not seem normal. It should not take nearly that long to render and export your 3:30 movie. Considering that your mac is not one of the most recent vintage, and your are editing in full HD, one could expect it to take a bit of time, but nothing like this.
In the way of troubleshooting, you could try and export just one of these 10 second segments.
I have no way of knowing for sure, but I guess that it might export in a much more reasonable amount of time.
I suspect that memory may be running scarce, which, as has been repeatedly mentioned in these fora, is a problem affecting many of us using FCP X under Lion. You mentioned you used "purge" in the Terminal, but in such a long render you might have had to do it repeatedly...

System Response
The results of raw material cost estimates that have errors are not used in the product just costed. Only cost estimates that do not have errors or that were released are used in cost rollup.
All assemblies that contain material W275271299NEW from plant LEP1 in their structure are indicated as incorrect.
The message sets the costing status of the assembly to 'costed with errors'.
Procedure
Eliminate the error at the highest low-level code.
The Material W275271299NEW is Scrap material. That is generated at the time of Production. this material i have mentioned Negative in BOM.

Could anyone please provide me with some inputs or documents/ templates on Effort estimation of developments in ABAP??
I have done the initial analysis, but not sure what should be the base of measuring the complexity and time for an object?
How an object can be further divided and the total time be measured?
Also please let me know about the marginal timings and all...

First the know the complexity of the object.
Based on complexity only we can estimate the hours.
Generally for
simple - 5-6 days
Medium : 8-9 days
Complex : 15-18 days
This can vary from company to company.
Guidelines for complexity :
Tables,Transactions involved that is the scracth development or any developed object there for reference like that.

Templates look different in FCE HD than in LT

I'm starting to use templates in LT in a project I'm working on to jazz it up a little.
I use 2 LT stock templates, modify the the background colors, adjust some font sizes, add a drop shadow here & there, do a little extrusion on some of the LT fonts, and it looks great when I save and render it in LT.
I play back the LT render file in LT and it looks just like I want it.
After I import the render file into FCE HD (3.0), place it on the time line, render it, and then finally get to see what it looks like, some of the font colors are wrong and there appears to be some aliasing happening on the fonts themselves making the whole thing look second rate - not sharp and crisp like it was in LT.
Is it a no no to extrude fonts?
I also get aliasing on the stock non-animated fonts when I change their color. In one case from black to a dark green . In this case I also put a .5 px stroke around the font to help with contrast against the background.
Could the .5 px stroke be aliasing?
The dark green also comnes out looking grungy and frazzeled.
Any help would be appreciated. This has happend in several templates now.

You get used to estimating timing and anticipating your results with experience.
Tom said that basically it doesn't play well in the time line because it gets compressed by a factor of 5 when it goes to DV AND that even though I'm using a 19" Apple Studio Display, that the display is not showing it like it would play from a DVD to a TV. < </div>

Different universes of time. But when film gets transferred to vidoe, those single frames get interlaced and interleaved with a process known as 3-2 Pulldown. That will give you a headache because there are many different types of pulldown.

That's a stylistic question you will answer for yourself in a few months.

It's not that easy, TV and video are different, too.
So does this mean that when we create in LiveType, we are creating a NON-Interlaced image that looks so sharp & clear on the non-interalced computer screen? And that the interlacing gets put in during the rendering process in FCE? And that interlacing makes the LiveTyp image look like it's got ants in its pants (fuzzy)on the computer screen? < </div>
There's an option in your prject settings to use NONE, LOWER or UPPER fileds for your movie. Set it to LOWER. If you use NONE< you will get a progressive render.

It might help but we do that every day around here. Don't sweat the small stuff but, now that you have some fundamental grounding in video basics, you could benefit dramatically from reading the LT manual and doing the tutorials one more time. They'll make some sense this time around.

Design Template to change ONLY text boxes

I am afraid of the Design Template option because all I need to do is globally change ALL the text in my project to be ARIAL 11.... while it seems that Design Template would do this, there are all these other captions, buttons, etc. on there and I want those left alone.
There seems to be no way to delete pages or features from this strange thing called Design Templates... does anybody know... if I apply this Design Template will all of my other buttons, boxes, headings, etc. change also?
What a horrible idea if it is so. Completely worthless for the person who has been give ONE design change only.

Because it DOESN'T WORK worth a crap, that's why.
"Apply to All" is the most overrated feature in this product, in my estimation. (Well, aside from Aggregator). It has hit or miss results, and when it by chance DOES work, it changes a bunch of other stuff too, such as header graphics deleted.
Wish it did work though, I am having to change each and every text box by hand.

Estimation for ABAP project

Dear all,
We have an ABAP project, how can you estimate total of effort we spend to complete them. Please guide me some ways to estimate the ABAP development project ?
By the way, I want to know how to measure the productivity of a ABAP developer ?. What metric should we base on ?
For example: in VB or C++ projects, we measure productivity of developers base on number of code lines per day.
Please help me or guide me some measurement method.

In some development projects I had worked, we used to follow this many metrics but I remember only few:)).
i) To know the total work estimate: You can take all the objects that you have developed and first make a complexity review. There you have to determine if the object is Simple, Medium, Hard or Complex, Very complex. This is a very relative term to establish. Hence use a standard approach in looking at the complexities may be by carrying a Complexity review template/ guideline, jotting all the points and take a weighted average as per their relevance and significance of them to the total delivery.
Now you have a total complexity review done. Just find out if a same kind of project had been done anywhere else and find out what was the number of hours/days spent for each of this degrees of complexities. Say low is 24 hours, medium takes 40 hours, blah blah. Break it down to the level of Technical design, coding, reviews, etc. Now you have a total estimate done. However you should never get biased with actuals as you already have while caluclating the estimates.
ii) Now it is easier to find the productivity as you can find out what was the estimated time to complete and how much did each developer take to complete the job.
Generally the estimates must be done in the initial phase of the project. Also these are very minimal number of metrics which I am trying to tell you. But there is a huge number of them and you could find it out from any quality expert may be auditing software projects for CMM, etc.
