ESW 520 8-port - firmware upgrade

Hi,
We have a ESW 520 8-port currently on firmware version 2.1.1.19 (boot version 1.0.0.07, VID V01) - Serial number CBT15100AN2
The latest firmware version is 2.1.1.21, which we downloaded and via Maintenance, Software Upgrade, via HTTP performed an upgrade to this latest version - the upgrade appears to complete, logs show successful however when we restart the switch it still shows as 2.1.1.19 . Very strange!
Can someone please advise how to get the upgrade to successfully apply?
Kindest regards,
Dale.

David,
Thanks for such a question reply - I had tried that and after reboot still shows as 2.1.1.19
I decided to install the firmware upgarde again, change the active firmware to 2.1.1.21 again, restarted and this time it held.
Thank you for your assistance, all resolved.
Cheers,
Dale.

  • ESW 520 8-port PoE switch cannot ping

    Hello
I have an ESW 520 8-Port switch with a management ip address of 192.168.10.2 /24
After I reboot it, I can successfully ping it from a pc with an ip of 192.168.10.123 for about 50 consecutive times.
After that, I get a "Destination host unreachable" (this icmp message is sent by my pinging pc (192.168.10.123).
This obviously seems like a bug.
    Has anybody seen this before.
Whenever I reboot it, it goes through the same sequence.
    Thanksj

    Hi David,
I figured out what the problem was.
The switch was obtaining an ip via dhcp, as it is a DCHP client by default.
I am used to working with Enterprise level Cisco equipment, so this simple oversight was the cause of the problem.
The ip that was obtained via dhcp was obviously different than the default ip of 192.168.10.2
So when the switch was rebooted, it would start off with its default ip of 192.168.10.2.
As soon as it obtained an ip via dhcp, I could not ping it of course
    Thanks for the  input though

  • Air Port firmware upgrade

I did a software upgrade yesterday having read that it solves some serious security problems, and in the process I also got a firmware upgrade for the AirPort Extreme WIFI card in my MBP.
After the re-boot, my Mac was trying to connect to the 802.11n interface on my Air Port Extreme! This was totally unexpected since I have an older MBP without the 802.11n support - could the firmware upgrade have added it?
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.3.4
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
A more general question is - Where do I find details of each of the software/firmware upgrades and what they include - similar to Micro$oft's KB articles?
    Walt

There was a thread here a few months ago - I can't find it now - that explained that Apple, in the newer versions of the MacBook Pro, upgraded the AirPort Extreme hardware. the way you could tell the difference between the "old" and "new" hardware was the numbers in parentheses (0x168C, 0x86) following the name. I don't remember which was what, and I can't find the thread, just that mine was NOT the "new" version that was upgraded to 802.11n.
That's why I was excited when the MacBook Pro started to try to authenticate to the 802.11n connection. I didn't have time to investigate further, and won't now for a couple of days, but when I learn more I'll report back here when I do.
I'm guessing from the numbers, that your Mac Mini has the same AirPort hardware, but don't take that as fact

  • ESW 520 24-Port switch with POE not working???

We just purchased 8 managed switches POE to swap out our existing in preparation for our new phone system.  We installed them all after configuring with static IP.  Deployed... and all but two work fine.  Can someone assist with tips for troubleshooting why two of them do not work?  There are a couple other switches in the building.   Could it be that a switch "upstream" from the two non-functioning switches is causing an issue?  If so, how do I find out?  When we put back the two "dumb" switches all was fine.  Any tips to help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Rachel,
Thank you for posting. You may need to change the Smartport role of the ESW switch port to match what you are connecting to. If you are connecting to another switch, the role should be switch. This is usually what causes the ports to block traffic.

  • Problem in connecting ESW 520 POE switches

    Hi
    New on ESW 520 switches
Need help to configure the ESW 520  24 POE switches
How can i configure the last port of 24 to oonnect to another ESW 520 24 port switches ?

Why not use the GE ports at the far right to chain the switches one to the other from the UC540/UC560?  They are best for this and gives you an extra port on the switch this way.  Use straight thru ethernet cables.

It seams a new firmware was issued on the cisco download site on january 11 :

I have succesfully downloaded this file, but each time I try to unzip it, I get an error.
I have tried to download it several times, using different navigator and different pcs or macs and using the donwload manager or without it, and I get the same result.
Also the md5sum of the downloaded file is the one indicated on the download screen :

  • Port suspended on Cisco ESW-520-24P

    Hi experts,
I appreciate if anyone can help me with this. I just bought 4 units of Cisco ESW-520 24Ports switches. I did some testing and found out for PORTS 1 and 12 is in "Suspended" mode and thus not able to use.
This not happened to 1 but all 4 switches. Why is this so ? Can anyone guide me to disable the ports from going into "suspended" mode automatically ? I wouldn't want the ports to be in "Suspension" mode when it goes live and thus block the desktops from having internet access.
    Thanks!

Ok, I think I found out what the priblem is.  It seems that from factory, the ports come locked.  You have to go to Security>Traffic Control>Port Security and unlock each port.  Click the EDIT tab on the port you want to edit.  Then un-check the ENABLE TRAP> (apply).  Un-check LOCK INTERFACE> (apply).  Change LEARNING MODE to CLASSIC LOCK> (apply).  That should do it, but you'll have to do that for every port you want unlocked.  I'm not to sure if there is a way to unlock then all at once.

  • About the Maximum of Source Ports to ONE Destination Port on ESW 520 24P

Does the ESW 520 24P Support Mirroring 20 Ports Traffic to 1 Destination Port?

    Hi Andy
No the ESW supports mirroring groups that can each mirror  8 ports to a destination port.
This is great for normal problem determination purposes. I can guess at your application.

  • ESW 520 ARP Inspection Problem

    Hello,
I have observed strange behavior on ESW 520 switches, with ARP Inspection operation.  ARP inspection is configured with static ip to mac bindings, and it work.Problem is with logs, switch generates tons of ARP inspection logs, during network normal operation, but network endpoints are working well. It seems switch dont like ARP request which are going to local network addresses., but in that vlan all host can communicate which each other.
Do you have any idea what can be the problem ?

    Hi ngtransge,
I will first come to say I do not know the answer. But, I will suspect the log entries are indicating a MAC address that arrived on the interface that did not recognize the IP or MAC address. If the MAC or IP is not found in the inspection list, it would revert to the DHCP snooping table if that is enabled.
I would suspect these entries are coming from an untrusted interface then goes through validation.
Can you show the trusted interfaces and the MAC bindings?
Are the MAC addresses on the log entry meaningful to you in any way?
Are those MAC addresses supposed to be going to a particular destination? Or conversely, are the MAC addresses supposed to be seen on an untrusted interface?

  • Firmware upgrade crippled cp1025nw

LaserJet CP1025nw color: was working flawlessly
received email from HP 4/3/2012, recommending firmware upgrade to v 20120130.
ran upgrade 4/3/2012 from iMac, OS10.6.8.
    got error: 'update failed'
print queue says 'printing', cp1025nw doesn't respond.
printer lights:  orange triangle enclosed exclamation mark plus green semicircle
This means: fatal error, per the user manual.
manual instructs to turn off, unplug, plug-in, turn on.  I did this several times.
printer lights still indicate: fatal error.
HP utility says: device status: unknown, service ID: unknown, FW version: unknown, driver version 2.0.20110727
tried to print configuration page: got error 'cannot establish two-way communication with the device'

Tried printing from Dell laptop: Latitude E6410 with USB cable: Windows XP professional, 2002, service pack 3.
has routinely printed from this computer previously.
error message in printer queue: 'error - printing',
Dell said 'found new hardware'  tried to install with HP cd-rom
error message said 'the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software'
ran the HP print diagnostic utility HPPDU.exe file from the Dell with USB cable: 'Everything checks out okay with your printer'
print test page: no response from the cp1025nw
    What should I try next?

Since my last post I’ve retried the same troubleshooting described before, this time just from the PC.  The result is still the same.  Lights on the cp1025nw indicate “fatal error”.
Does anyone know how to put this printer into ‘bootcode’ mode?  I’ve read about this in some other posts about HP firmware updates trashing printers.

  • Sky Router firmware upgraded - can no longer login with credentials

I usually have no problems accessing my sky router (white Sky Hub with ADSL) via the page 192.168.0.1 however I tried to login the other day and was greeted with an updated looking summary screen - all very nice I thought, let's go and explore! However when I put in the usual details - username: admin, password: sky I get prompted to input my details again which is very odd. Now I know that I am the only one who accesses the router in this way as my flatmate has never logged in and probably never will so I can only assume the firmware upgrade has caused the password/username to change. I logged in the other week and the password is saved in my browser so I am sure I am not making any mistake here. I have tried in chrome and IE just in case but I have the same issue in both. Has the new firmware brought a new default password? I cannot find any reference to this anywhere on this site so it seems unlikely. I would rather not reset my router to default settings as I have devices with static IP addresses and port forwarding setup that will take me some time to reconfigure. I don't think there is any feature to backup the config unless you are actually logged in to the router but would love to be worng about this. I am guessing I will have to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults but would welcome any help or suggestions if possible?

After review the events of the morning.....
I normally keep my routers in the basement where my eth jacks all hub.  High on a shelf, I got reasonable coverage on 2.4Ghz even on the second floor.  I went to this router for the Dual mode, but found the 5Ghz didn't make it sufficiently well to the second floor.  So it was moved to the first floor, on a counter.  That morning the router started acting up a bit, not bringing an iphone online.  It was looked at - and a couple of post cards that had been placed on top, removed.  Air flow was not blocked around the sides in any way - just a few pieces of card stock on top to interfere with convection off the top.
    1.  There is no way to look at temperature - maybe the device doesn't even know its own temp.
    2.  There is no fan that I can discern.  Clearly, creating a device that is designed to sit on a flat surface in a home environment ought to take into consideration "normal impediments to air flow".   Temp controlled fans is simple, well proven tech.
    3.  This design is small, has TWO radios, sits horizonal (thus is going to have lousy convection) - seems to me an engineer ought to have given more thought to not only providing the user with easy to obtain data (temp), alternative methods (fan/vertical mounting) and/or self-protection (to hot, I'm shutting down rather than corrupt my database).
Having spent millions on Cisco gear in my career, I would have hoped that Cisco+Linksys would have a little more Cisco and a little less Linksys.

  • Firmware upgrade for Westell UltraLine Series3 A90-9100EM15-10 ?

I'm wanting to check for/download install a firmware upgrade for my Westell UltraLine Series3 A90-9100EM15-10.
    It's currently running
    Software Version:     1.02.00.04
    Release Date:     Aug 28 2008
I'm hoping there's an upgrade available that fixes the HDMI Handshake/dropout problem?
Anyway, the screen I'm taken to after clicking "upgrade" in the router's management UI says :
Check every xx hours at URL _______
The field after "at URL" is not populated.
If I click "check now" I get:
"URL must be in the format: protocol://userassword@hostort/path where protocol is one of http, https, ftp or tftp. Either user or password, or both, may be left out. The port number is also optional."
Was that URL field supposed to be populated by the tech who installed the FIOS?
Where can I find that URL so I can paste it in and get my firmware updates?

Nevermind.  I've found it.  The link to 1.03.00.08 firmware is http://download.verizon.net/webdownload/firmware/upgrades/westell_router_9100em/A90-9100EM15-10-1.03...

  • Firmware upgrade stuck

My router says there is still a firmware upgrade in progress. I have flashed and reflashed (using UI and tftp util) multiple times, and this will not go away.
This is all on top of erratic behavior, dropping the connection, periods of no connectivity, periods of degraded performance, etc.
I've tried a factory reset, and holding the button in for 30 seconds. Nothing will get this perpetual firmware upgrade to go away.

Anytime a firmware upgrade is interrupted (for whatever reason) before it completes, there is a serious risk that your router will die.  However, there is always some hope.   Please try the following:
You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Firmware upgrade SG300

Is it possible to do a firmware upgrade on an SG300-52 without a windows machine in the building? If so how. The last windows box died a year ago and I don't have a com port anymore. Haven't found instructions or a proper manual on this box yet. Prob my fault but I can't find much on this switch. Only some complaints but no instructions. Please show me what a blind noob I am.

Nevermind I found it. Should have used the time I spent registering for the community looking for the panel in my web interface. Noob, mac user, lightwieght. Please remove this waste of time.
