ESW 520 8-port PoE switch cannot ping

Hello
I have an ESW 520 8-Port switch with a management ip address of 192.168.10.2 /24
After I reboot it, I can successfully ping it from a pc with an ip of 192.168.10.123 for about 50 consecutive times.
After that, I get a "Destination host unreachable" (this icmp message is sent by my pinging pc (192.168.10.123).
This obviously seems like a bug.
Has anybody seen this before.
Whenever I reboot it, it goes through the same sequence.
Thanksj

Hi David,
I figured out what the problem was.
The switch was obtaining an ip via dhcp, as it is a DCHP client by default.
I am used to working with Enterprise level Cisco equipment, so this simple oversight was the cause of the problem.
The ip that was obtained via dhcp was obviously different than the default ip of 192.168.10.2
So when the switch was rebooted, it would start off with its default ip of 192.168.10.2.
As soon as it obtained an ip via dhcp, I could not ping it of course
Thanks for the  input though

  • ESW 520 8-port - firmware upgrade

    Hi,
We have a ESW 520 8-port currently on firmware version 2.1.1.19 (boot version 1.0.0.07, VID V01) - Serial number CBT15100AN2
The latest firmware version is 2.1.1.21, which we downloaded and via Maintenance, Software Upgrade, via HTTP performed an upgrade to this latest version - the upgrade appears to complete, logs show successful however when we restart the switch it still shows as 2.1.1.19 . Very strange!
Can someone please advise how to get the upgrade to successfully apply?
    Kindest regards,
    Dale.

    David,
Thanks for such a question reply - I had tried that and after reboot still shows as 2.1.1.19
I decided to install the firmware upgarde again, change the active firmware to 2.1.1.21 again, restarted and this time it held.
Thank you for your assistance, all resolved.
    Cheers,
    Dale.

  • Catalyst 3560 24 port-PoE switch powers on but no STAT LED and console not responding

I rebooted my Catalyst 3560 24 port PoE switch and when it turned on only the STAT LED went green the other LEDs are off.  I get no response from the console port using putty and the cable I used before this happened.  I tested the cable on another switch and it works fine with putty.  What can I do with this switch?

This unit was purchased before I came to our company.  There is no support or maint contract.  I'm sure the unit is several years old...we'll call the vendor and see what they'll do..not expecting much.

  • My SGE 2000 24 port POE switch won't boot

    Hi,
I have a sge 2000 24 port POE switch that won't boot, won't communicate on console or TCP/IP, and all of the port lights are lit up green. Holding down the reset button doesn't fix the issue and there aren't any lights illuminated on the left hand side of the switch. Do I have a future doorstop?
    Any ideas?

Hi David, if you're unable to console the switch, there isn't an alternative recovery method. You should check the warranty by calling the SBSC to see if you're entitled to replacement.

If you have a Cisco switch with, at least, one faulty port you RMA the appliance.

  • WRT610N to TP-LINK SWITCH cannot ping printer on switch

I hope you can tell me what I have done wrong.
    dslmodem ---> wrt610N ---->TP-LINK(5port) ---- HP 2600N printer, another to IOmega HD
I cannot see either the printer nor the HD. I cannot ping them.
The cables from the TP to the printer are blue, CAT5 cables. Does blue mean twisted pair?
The HP and IOmega have static  IP addresses at 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 each.
The DHCP settings on the router allocate DHCP from 100-254 to avoid conflicts.
The firewall on the WRT610N is disabled.
Physical limitations permit only one CAT5 cable to the TPLINK box.
    If I avoid the box and do this;
    dslmodem ---> wrt610N ---->HP 2600N printer
I can ping it from both a Windows 7 and/or XP machine.
However, with the switch in place, I cannot ping it from the router nor any PC's connected to it. The PCs can ping each other.
Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance.

The device is a TPLINK TL-SF1005D unmanaged 5 port switch. No visible settings or buttons.
The address handed out on other side of the TPLINK is 169.254.138.233
    My network is 192.168.1.*
Hmm. This does not bode well.
Should I set up a routing table entry to talk to this switch?
The wire from the router is hooked to port 1 on the switch. Should it not pick up the right submask, entry from the router?
    Thanks for all your help?

  • ESW 520 24-Port switch with POE not working???

We just purchased 8 managed switches POE to swap out our existing in preparation for our new phone system.  We installed them all after configuring with static IP.  Deployed... and all but two work fine.  Can someone assist with tips for troubleshooting why two of them do not work?  There are a couple other switches in the building.   Could it be that a switch "upstream" from the two non-functioning switches is causing an issue?  If so, how do I find out?  When we put back the two "dumb" switches all was fine.  Any tips to help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Rachel,
Thank you for posting. You may need to change the Smartport role of the ESW switch port to match what you are connecting to. If you are connecting to another switch, the role should be switch. This is usually what causes the ports to block traffic.

Need help to configure the ESW 520  24 POE switches
How can i configure the last port of 24 to oonnect to another ESW 520 24 port switches ?

Why not use the GE ports at the far right to chain the switches one to the other from the UC540/UC560?  They are best for this and gives you an extra port on the switch this way.  Use straight thru ethernet cables.

  • Using 3560 8 port PoE to power up 1252 dual radio AP for b\g clients

    Hi,
We have a couple of 3560 8 port PoE switches that we plan to use to power up 1252 APs (not ordered yet). Now since the 3560 switch will only support one radio, is it possible to order a pre installed dual radio 1252 AP, disable the 5 Ghz one and enable the 2.4 Ghz, so that b/g clients can access the network, until a PoE+ switch is purchased?
    All help is appreciated
    Thanks

Slight misconception here.  The 3560 will power the AP and both radios, so long as you are running 4.2.112.0 or higher on the WLC, or 12.4(10b)JDC or higher for an autonomous AP.  The caveat here, is you will run in a degraded state for N rates.
The below link describes the power to N rate relationship:

  • 8 port poe with 2 SFP 1gig uplink port

I need a 8 port poe switch  (LAn base) with 2 X 1gig SFP uplink.  can anyone suggest me the correct model?

Depending on your budget, you have a choice of FastEthernet or GigabitEthernet ports.
For FastEthernet ports, WS-C2960C-8PC or WS-C3560C-8PC.
    For GigabitEthernet ports, WS-C3560CG-8PC.

  • Powering AP's via POE switch or injector

    Hi,
Could anyone please advise if there is any difference in the power supplied to a 1142N AP when using a power injector (AIR-PWRINJ3/AIR-PWRINJ4) compared to using poe on the switch port (2960S 24 port POE switch WS-C2960S-24PS-L).
    Thanks.

but someone once advised that in order to get full N potential from the AP's you need injectors.
    Someone got their facts wrong.
If I was to get the full potential with N, I'd look to plug the WAP into a GigabitEthernet port.  PoE or Injector won't make any difference.

    Hi,
we have two Catalyst Express 500 switches and a ESW 520 just purchased. the VLAN on the other two is 2. how do I change the Default to be 2 instead of 100 in the ESW Switch.

    Hi Prasanga,
Just to clarify, are you trying to change the Voice VLAN, or Management VLAN?
The Voice VLAN by default on the ESW is 100, and Management VLAN is 1.
