ESX24 - loading samples

Hello Logic users, please can someone out there explain to me how you load and play your own samples in EXS24 (Logic Pro 7.2) - had the same trouble with Ultrabeat. Many thanx, Rich C

Richard,
There's this thing called the manual... it's pretty cool. Check it out sometime
But I'll gladly get you started. When you open an EXS instance, and then want to add your own samples to make a new instrument, the first thing you need to do is to create a new instrument. This can be done by clicking on the edit tab on the front panel, opening the EXS editor.
From there, go under the Instrument menu, and select "New". Now, a new instrument has been created (but not named or saved yet). You can either drag and drop samples from the finder right onto the keyboard icon at the top of the EXS editor, or utilize the "Add Multisamples" function, found under the Zone menu of the editor.
After getting a few of your samples in there, you'll need to go under the Instrument Menu again, and "Save As".
Be aware though, that this new instrument is not yet loaded into the EXS. After saving, go back to the front panel of the EXS, and click and hold where you load the instruments. Select "Refresh Menu". This will allow the EXS to see your new instrument. Select it to load it, and enjoy.
Seriously though, the manual is imperative here. There's a lot of important stuff to know to get the best use of it. File management, for one.
Hope that's what you needed to get you started...

  • Feature Request: Ultrabeat: Load Sample auto copy file name to Drum Voice

Feature Request: Ultrabeat: Load Sample auto copy file name to Drum Voice
I wish that when I load a sample into a drum voice, that it would automatically copy the name of the sound file I'm importing to the drum voice minus the extension. If I were importing BD01.wav I'd like for the drum voice to display BD01. As it is, I have to import the file, then name or rename the drum voice to BD01. When importing large quntities, this becomes a giant pain, and I'm looking for anything programmatic that could save me a load of time. When I think of all the time I'm going to waste...and if you multiply that by all the number of users...that's a lot of wasted time.
I wish of course that the program could suck up and autoload all of the sound files within a directory, names too, until the voices were full. Then I could just fine tune and kick out ones I don't want or want in different order. Not a big deal for users who are importing from all kinds of different sources, but say for impoting libraries like NI's Battery, it's a big deal.
Maybe these could be choices in the load sample menu.

Microsoft pulled the plug on DirectSound HAL in Vista due to lack of hardware support. The SAL exists for
software compatibility, good intention but bad performance as there is no longer a direct path from
    DirectSound to audio drivers.
People choose DirectSound for its Direct-ness
but there is no reason to choose it now.
    DirectX SDK was integrated
with WIndows SDK which ships with Visual Studio 2012 so you don't need additional downloads for
    WASAPI and XAudio 2.
Just look up the documentation for headers/librarieslike every other Windows API you use. If you have a hard time to find the documentation then you need to go to search engines and find search engine tutorials.
There are plenty of samples for both WASAPI and XAudio 2, both in the Windows SDK and online. The DirectX team has some suggestions on which to use on their team blog.
You can find experts for those APIs at the Windows Desktop Pro-Audio Application Development forum and the
Audio/XACT forum on MSDN (link left out for you to practice your search skills). Again, it is fine to ask for hints but don't ask the whole
solution. You are competing with others who just need a hint to finish work here. The time spent on working on your assignment would be better spent on helping on giving hints to others.

  • Importing/loading samples into Ultrabeat

My plug-in reference seems to be unaccurate or either I do not fully understand this procedure...How is this done exactly?..Also, what type of file is compatible with Ultrabeat?
    Thanks

Each voice in Ultrabeat consists of (up to) 2 oscillators and a noise source.
Select whatever voice location you want to load a sample into, turn off oscillator 1 and the noise, and on oscillator 2 select "Sample" which turns that oscillator into a sample playback oscillator. Then use the load button in oscillator 2 to load in whatever sample you want to playback.
If you want to create your own kits, it makes sense to have a default kit to start from, in which all voices are set to sample playback with sensible default values (such as pitch = 0 etc), so you can just load samples into each voice and save the kit under a new name when you are done.

  • "Not Enough Memory To Load Samples..." hangs Logic

So I'm sitting here watching my life pass before me as the SBBOD spins and spins. This was the result of my loading an EXS instrument which, halfway through loading generated an error message, "Not enough memory to load samples...". When I clicked "OK" on that dialog box, the SBBOD appeared and continues to spin as I write this.
    And spin...
    And spin...
The song I'm working on has 30 active instruments, this one would have been #31.
Anyway, my disgruntled side is wondering if a professionally written application should actually hang upon determining that there isn't enough memory for an operation. Why can't it just have recovered gracefully? Helll, my Akai S1000 wouldn't hang when it ran out of memory... Meanwhile, my calmer wanting-to-get-back-to-work side would love to get some constructive suggestions as to how to prevent this from happening in the future (aside from turning on virtual memory for EXS, which is not an option for me).
Activity monitor reports that Logic is utilizing 3.06G of Real Memory, 3.51 of Virtual Memory.

Thanks Justin. Got any suggestions for an external app? This idea is venturing into virgin territory for me...
The issue, though, is not being able to know at load-time how much RAM any particular EXS instrument uses. It's possible to find out only afterwards how much it uses (by accessing the EXS Prefs panel and clicking on the Sample Storage menu. But doing that in and of itself is risky, as I've known this to also crash Logic). So really, I'd only know when to start using a ReWired app as a sampler after I crash Logic by trying to load up a "last straw" instance of EXS.
Hey, you're a programmer, right?! Could you write me a routine for Logic that would intercept the loading of a newly selected EXS instrument by first doing a calculation to see how much RAM is required by that instrument, and then reporting if there's enough available RAM to actually load it into? If there isn't enough RAM, the routine would then abort the load. Without crashing, of course.   ;-)
Whaddya say? (I know the answer, but I just had to ask...)

  • EXS24 loading samples become one semi tone lower than assigned key

When I load samples into a new instrument as a zone by dragging them to a key, somehow they become assigned to the adjacent key, one semi tone lower than the note. Eg: I put a sample on C2, when I hit the keyboard it is tiggered by B1. How to resolve this ? Is there a setting somewhere ? It certainly does not appear to have any thing to do with my 'mother' keyboard (M-Audio Ozonic).
Thanks for any insight into this issue

  • Load samples to Ultrabeat from Finder broken

I cant drag a loop sample from a Finder into Ultrabeat. But when I select the folder in Finder Ultrabeat disappears. I'm in Logic 9. I like to load samples direct from the finder but it's not possible. Do i have to use the load sample window only?

  • Loading Samples Into EXS24

I have many cd's with .wav samples that I would like to load into the EXS24. Can someone give me STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to get these into the folder they should be in so the EXS24 can read and load them...or any other possible solution for playing these sounds. Also, instructions on loading samples into Ultrabeat would be greatly appreciated...!!!!

    Create an EXS24 track/instance
Open EXS Inst editor (from audio menu)
    Instrument>New
    Name/save to
Select this inst in the EXS24 plugin
Drop your files on the EXS Inst editor keyboard, save, continue editing
Make sure your audio files are in the directory you want them to be referenced from... or use Project Manager to move them.
Ultrabeat supports drag + drop too. Under Osc 1, hit sample and drag+drop on the box. There are many settings so... the volume and effects may come in to play.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

  • ESX24 won't load samples after reorganizing library

I re-organized my old samples in my sampler instruments folder. They all loaded before. Now the sampler loads up but only sine tones play. I see all the samples in the editor window, I can click on them and they open up in the sample edit window. Everything is in the sampler instruments folder as before, just re-organized. Help!

Don't know what I did, but its fixed. Went to another track with ESX24 and everything loads!

  • Loading Samples

HI All - I have been reading up on this but can't find the actual information. I have a sample player, called KontactPlayer 2, which appears as Validated in the Audio Units player.
But I just can't figure out how to load it, where to make it appear, in Logic Express 8. I can now see, and load, all my Proteus patches via ESX24 sampler. I can see the Plug In menus - it's not there. It doesn't appear to be under Libraries. Where should I be looking? Thanks

It's alright I've figured it out

  • ESX24 loading

I recently reloaded my computer, so I copied my created sampler instruments onto an external harddrive. I have now reloaded tose instruments back onto my local drive. When I try to load up those instruments on the ESX24, it can not find the load path, yet somehow all those instruments shows up in the menu. If I turn my external hardrive on, then it will load up those instruments. I already clicked the option button and selected preferences on the EXS24. The search samples on option was correct. So the best option would be to open up the project manager window and scan paths, which is what was discuss in the ESX24 video tutorial, but when I click on windows option, the project manager window does not exist, along with couple of other windows which I noticed are no longer present I guess for Logic 8. I used option-K to look for shortcuts to that window, but could not find one. This is telling me that I can't change my sample loading path ever, which is not good. How do i fix this situation? What happens if I don't have that external harddrive anymore? Then what?

  • Esx sampler is not able loading samples

    hello,
I am new in this forum and hope someone can help me out.
Everytime when I open the Esx24 sampler and choose from the menu a sample, a window opens which says: progress, load audio sample for xxx . The window remains open and there is no progress. I can not close the window anymore and nothing happens. I have to force quit Logic. This also happens when I try to open older Logic 6.0 files with esx24 samples in it.
I guess the Esx24 sampler can not find the samples. But they are located where they as I believe should: computer - Library - Application Support - Logic - ESX factory samples.
Any suggestions? Excuse my bad mastery of the English language. I am a native German .
    Regards,

    Ashermusic,
Excuse my late response. Thank you for your reply.

Make sure your actual EXS24 instruments are in the
Sampler Instruments folder in the Logic folder in the
    Application Support folder.
They are located there - in my desperation even copied them as well into the Logic folder - Application Support folder - user
If they are and this is still happening there are 2
    solutions:
Aha. So this problem is known - occurs often?
    1. Buy Redmatica's EXSManager Pro and re-link the
sampler instruments with the samples. (Best choice.)
OK but I am broke ... again ... and have to head for a cheaper solution.
    2. Use Logic's Project Manager to do it. (more
    cumbersome but free.)
Project Manager did find the instruments. How can I make a connection with the ESX24 sampler? Now it takes more than 15 minutes till the ESX24 sampler (or Project Manager?) finds the instrument and that Project Manager asks me if I want to use it.
Is there any way to do this quicker? This is more than cumbersome
I hope I am communicating understandable

  • EPM 11.1.2.2: Load sample data

I have installed EPM 11.1.2.2 and now I'm trying to load the sample data. I could use help locating instructions that will help with this. While earlier versions of epm documentation seemed to have instructions for loading the sample data, I have yet to find it for 11.1.2.2. Perhaps the earlier versions' steps are supposed to work on this version as well. So I read it. It says to initialize the app then in EAS right click on a consol icon where yuo have the option to load data. Unfortunately, I am using EPMA and I saw no option to initialize when I created the app. In addition, EAS doesnt have the console icon and right clicking on the application doesnt do anything. In short, prior documentation hasnt helped so far. I did find the documentation for EPM 11.1.2.2 but I have yet to locate within it the the instructions for loading the sample application and data. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I considered your comment about the app already existing but if this were true, I think the database would exist in EAS but it doesn't.
I've also deleted all applications, even re-installed the essbase components including the database so it would all be fresh, and then tried to create a new one but still no initialization option is available. At this point, I'm assuming there is something wrong with my installation. Any suggestion on how to proceed would be appreciated.
I've noticed that I dont have the create classic application option in my menu, only the transform from classic to epma option. I also can't navigate to http://<machinename>:8300/HyperionPlanning/AppWizard.jsp. When I noticed these things, I did as John suggested in another post and reselected the web server. This didnt make a difference so I redeployed apps AND selected the web server. Still not seeing it in the menu.

  • ESX24 Loads

Can anyone tell me how to load an external .wav file (sample sound) into the EXS24.
    Thanks in advance
    Rockfort

Of course, iS meant to specify:
    Logic > Help > Logic Pro 7 Plug-In Reference > page 522
Logic is able to handle many formats, and .wav is one of the easiest one's to be integrated into EXS24 instruments without conversion

  • Error loading Sample Basic in Essbase

    Hi,
Has anyone had this issue? I tried to load the data for Sample Basic DB in Essbase in a Windows Vista 32 pc and got this error msg:
    Database Basic loaded
    Database East loaded
    Database Xchgrate loaded
    Database Interntl loaded
Unable to Connect to Database [East]
What does the last line mean and how do I fix it? I didn't encounter this when I was running it on a different machine (XP). All I've done was run the Calcdat.txt file after choosing load data for Sample db on server. Thx.

    Hi,
First of all Vista/XP both are not supported OS for Essbase server; though XP may work fine but for better results we stick with only Win 2000/Win 2003.
Else you can continue with XP and if you have same issue with XP then please post it we will together solve it.
    Thanks
