Etherchannel - Linux bonding driver

Hello,
I'm trying to get a new Linux box (RHES4) connected to a pair of 3750 switches in a stack via two gigE in an Etherchannel. One of the gigE's is on each of the 3750s.
On Linux the interface bond0 gets set up using eth0 and eth1 as slaves. However, I've tried various bonding "modes" and the best I can do is create an Etherchannel where one gigE is on standby waiting for the first to go down.
The Linux /etc/modules.conf contains:
alias bond0 bonding
options bonding miimon=100 mode=2
The 3750 switch contains:
int port-channel6
switchport mode access
int gi1/0/15
switchport mode access
channel-group 6 mode active
int gi2/0/9
switchport mode access
channel-group 6 mode active
What combination of modes on the switch and Linux will let me use both gigE in load balanced and yet failure tolerant way?
Regards,
Jonathan Wilson

Scott,
Built-in NICs on an HP BL25p - HP calls them "NC370i". They use the 'tg3' driver. They appear to be a Broadcom 5700 chipset.
Thanks,
Jonathan

  • Specifying Partner Failover in odbc.ini for Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server

    Hi,
We are trying to specify the partner failover when making connections via Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server. Do you know a way to specify partner failover in the DSN entry in odbc.ini?
We are using Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server and unixODBC DriverManager.
    Our DSN is:
    [MyDSN]
Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server
    Description=MyDSN
    Server=MySERVER,<port>
I also tried to use the following connection string in Python (via pyodbc) bypassing the DSN and connecting using the server name.
    cnxn = pyodbc.connect("Server=server1,<port>;UID=sa;PWD=<pwd>;Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server;Failover_Partner=Server2,<port2>;Database=MyDB")
If the standby DB is on server1 connection fails. It doesn't try server2. If the DB is principal on server1 connection succeeds.
    Thank you,
     Liviu
    LLL

    Hello,
Did you use ODBC Driver for SQL Server to connect to database that uses database mirroring?
    According to
the BOL,it does not list "Failover_Partner" as ODBC Driver for Linux connection string keywords.
But ODBC driver for Linux supports
AlwaysOn Availability Groups or Failover Cluster Instance by specify MultiSubnetFailover=True when connecting to a SQL Server 2012 availability group listener or SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster Instance.
The following case is about similar issue and it seems that ODBC Driver on Linux does not recognize Failover_Partner in connection string. (Not test myself). You can refer to:

  • Will the Linux GPIB driver be updated to support PCMCIA cards?

Kernel 2.4 appears to fully support PCMCIA. Will the NI Linux GPIB driver be updated in the near future? If not, I am considering the INES GPIB card.

Right now there are no plans to add PCMCIA support to the Linux GPIB driver software, which currently supports AT-GPIB/TNT, PCI-GPIB, and GPIB-ENET/100 products. Adding this support will depend on the scope of demand for it.
The following page contains information on the currently supported products:

  • Debian Linux Bonding and Cisco Catalyst 3750 - best practise?

    Hello everybody,
I would like to know what's best practice to do this:
The two NICs of a Debian Linux server wants to be connected with two Switchports of a Cisco Catalyst 3750 switch(stack). My goal is to have load-balancing and failover.
    My /etc/network/interfaces looks like this:
    iface bond0 inet static
           address 192.168.0.30
           netmask 255.255.255.0
           network 192.168.0.0
           broadcast 192.168.0.255
           gateway 192.168.0.1
           dns-nameservers 192.168.0.10 192.168.0.20
           dns-search xyz.mycompany.com
           slaves eth0 eth1
           bond_mode ???
           bond_miimon 100
           bond_downdelay 200
           bond-updelay 200
First question: What bond mode should I use?
    The switchports looks like this:
    interface GigabitEthernet3/0/4
     switchport access vlan 20
     switchport mode access
     spanning-tree portfast
What changes are necessery here? Something like this?
    interface GigabitEthernet3/0/4
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport mode trunk
     spanning-tree portfast
Thanks a lot for suggestions, hints, etc.! :-)
    Greets
    Stephan

    Hi Michael,
thanks a lot for your answer - and sorry for my late reply!
I like to show you my solution - I hope that it is a solution. ;-)
    My config on the switch(stack):
    switch#show etherchannel summary
    Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports
    ------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------
    2      Po2(SU)         LACP      Gi3/0/3(P)  Gi4/0/3(P)
    switch#show running-config interface GigabitEthernet 3/0/3
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 172 bytes
    interface GigabitEthernet3/0/3
     description myserver, eth0
     switchport access vlan 20
     switchport mode access
     channel-group 2 mode active
     spanning-tree portfast
    end
    lansw01#show running-config interface GigabitEthernet 4/0/3
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 172 bytes
    interface GigabitEthernet4/0/3
     description myserver, eth1
     switchport access vlan 20
     switchport mode access
     channel-group 2 mode active
     spanning-tree portfast
    end
    switch#show running-config interface port-channel 2
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 82 bytes
    interface Port-channel2
     switchport access vlan 20
     switchport mode access
    end
The /etc/network/interfaces of my Debian machine looks like this:
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
    auto bond0
            iface bond0 inet static
            address 192.168.1.xxx
            netmask 255.255.255.0
            gateway 192.168.1.xxx
            dns-nameservers 192.168.1.xxx
            dns-search xxx.xxx.xxx
            bond-mode 4
            bond-miimon 100
            bond-downdelay 200
            bond-updelay 200
            bond-lacp-rate 1
            slaves eth0 eth1
This setup seems to work well. But I'm wondering that there is nothing with "trunking" in my setup. Would you like to give me your opinion about this?
Thanks a lot and many greets
    Stephan

  • Follow up to recent post re. no Linux WiFi driver in Mepis 8. Get Mandriva One 2009!

    Attention:
More follow up on Mandriva 2009.0 & 2009.1 & Mepis 8 re. Wlan0 working or not.
Yes, the mandriva Flash does connect via Wlan0; Mepis LiveCD does not, even with continued editing/tweeking.
I installed Mandriva 2009.1 "Spring" after partitioning my SL500 (dual boot to Viata).
All hardware works with no editing.
I do not recommend buying the Flash drive: too expensive, dinky 8GB, so mostly a "fun toy" to imnpress the
    curious.
I highly recommend installing Mandriva as it is allot faster, etc. that LiveCD or Flash.
    ================================================================================
I've not liked Ubuntu as it is too different from Windows for destop KDE.
Mandriva One 2009 is terrific! Easy with no learning curve from Vista or Xp.
The download is free or u can buy it on CD for $7.00 from Mandriva or less elsewhere. Live CD to try it out,
which I did after giving up on Mepis 8 (which I thought was better than Mandriva).
I bought the new Mandriva 8MB USB drive with this OS installed.
Now I can boot & run Linux without partitioning the HD, which can be difficult.
I've done that on a desktop, but when u want to move onto another Linux OS,
then u may have to perform a simple "repair" to the Registry for no further
notice of the absent Linux OS.,
    but what if...?
Linux transforms so fast that I prefer not to partition & install; as I may want to try another.
The Mandriva Flash 2009 costs $55.00 plus the hefty $29. shipping from Paris, Fr.
All the Vista laptop whinners will be impressed with this Linux OS, no nag updates & faster without the Lenovo huge
toolbox/ Thinkvantage suite.(more like a pickup truck loaded).
If u ask questions later, I'll try to answer, when I run the USB OS.
    Best computing to you,
    Jim

Just to say there ARE lots of Apps on BlackBerry World, so potential BB purchasers should not let that stop them, and some very good free ones, excellent -- BlackBerry Travel is really good, and OsmAnd maps are fabulous, big to download, but when you get it you'll be amazed. Just download a provincial or smaller map to start, because they are huge files and very detailed, but lots of trails and paths are on them... good for park trails and such.

  • Can a Linux CUPS driver be installed on OS X? (for iP4200)

Canon has finally released an unsupported CUPS driver in an rpm package for the iP4200.
    http://software.canon-europe.com/software/canonprint_filter_forlinuxs24302.asp?model=
I have been doing a lot of research, trying to figure out if this can be installed on OS X. It's unclear if it needs to be compiled specifically for the Mac, or if it will install and work without a recompile. All the Linux/Unix stuff is a bit of a stretch for me, but I am starting to get the hang of it.
If this will work, we can finally use the iP4200 with a non-Apple Airport print server. I just picked one up for free after rebate with my new MacBook Pro, and it would be nice to get this to work with other computers in the house.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

    Darren,
My apologies if the tone of my last post was harsh. That was not my intention. I guess I was a bit more surprised by the post as I thought you had worked through and understood the issue(s). You did cite your correspondence with Canon on the subject where you asked if they would recompile it for Mac OS X. Compiling a binary for any platform means that you have the source code. The binaries for the package managers that Canon has for download are not source code.
The one thought I had originally was that there might be a way to extract the needed source code from the .rpm files. I do not have any working knowledge of how the package managers operate, so I left open the possibility. The more I think about this, however, I am pretty sure that such extraction of the source code would most likely be considered "reverse engineering" or "decompiling" and illegal under the The Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
the whole point is to make printer drivers transportable from one version of unix to an another, and I haven't been able to find documentation that states that the source is transportable but require recompilation to work on different systems. This certainly could be true...
In general, making drivers or CUPS transportable from one platform to another depends on the developer(s) writing the code in such a way as to make it useable on more than one platform. That is, it must be able to be compiled on various platforms. Apple compiles the CUPS source code for use on the Mac. That compilation results in different binaries for the PPC Mac and the Intel Mac. Same source code but two platforms and two sets of binaries. If it weren't for Rosetta, a PPC compilation would not work on an Intel Mac. The "hpijs" driver package for HP printers that is available through the linuxprint.org has not yet been recompiled and packaged for Intel Macs. The drivers work because they run under Rosetta.
The only time that the code does not have to be compiled is when the program is written in a "lower" language such as Perl as opposed to "C" or "C+". In this case, the interpreter is a program on the host machine. The foomatic-rip software is an example. Then again, the Perl interpreter on a PPC Mac had to be compiled from source code for the PPC Mac platform.
I am happy that you keep digging and learning. You are to be commended for that. We are all learning as we go. Perhaps posting your inquiry of converting a .rpm into something that could be used on a Mac would get a more thorough vetting if posted to a different forum such as the Unix forum or a similar forum on Usenet or one of the Mac news sites. Discussion of source code, package managers, and compiling is a bit complex for most of us on this printing forum.

  • Arch Linux USB drive installER...

Hey all, is there a method to get my 1 GB USB drive to act like an Arch Linux installer? I don't need to install Arch Linux on the USB, just getting it to act like a CD is good enough for me. This is because my computer does not have a CD drive.

    Nevermind. I found these:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Usb … ch_Install
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _USB_stick
Now I have to try them out. I'll report back on how it goes!

  • [Desktop][Other] Linux sound driver preferences

In the prefrences of the Linux version of Spotify, there is absolutely nothing that shows what sound driver is currently being used, or lets you select one. This would be a great addition. When I have only JACK running, and start Spotify, it refuses to play (it gives a connection error). When I have Pulseaudio running, and start Spotify, it will play. When I have neither running, one would think that it would revert to ALSA, but just like when JACK is running, it refuses to play (and gives a connection error). It would be great if it was clear in the preferences what sound driver is being used, and let us change the sound driver to the one we would like to use (like JACK, even if Pulseaudio is running). VLC has implemented this well. You can select from:AutomaticPulseaudio audio outputALSA audio outputJACK audio outputAudio memory outputDummy audio outputFile audio outputDisableThank you for your time, and thank you Spotify for (other than this) releasing a very nice Linux client.

I did not know that :) Still, looking in the terminal for the sound driver being used it isn't very intuitive. It also doesn't give you the option of selecting which sound driver you would like to use (ALSA, JACK, Pulseaudio, etc).

  • Linux Ubuntu driver IdeaCentre B300 Touchscreen

Does somebody know where to get the touchscreen driver for Ubuntu Linux for a IdeaCentre B300?
Unfortunatly Ubuntu does not recognize the touchscreen during installation.

    Hi,
as far as I know, for now there is no support in touchscreen for Ubuntu.
I have tested this when Ubuntu 10.10 was released on a T400 with no success and came across the information, that this support should be added in the future release versions.
However, to be honest I assume more, that shortly there will be some update or application released, that will support this.
    Cheers

  • Linux-NIC-Driver for T23

    Hello,
I have a T23 2647-BG9 and looking for drivers for Debian Linux. But i cant find any one
    one the lenovo website.
    Can anybody help me ?
    Friendly regards
    Witcher

Depends on the distro, users may sometimes have to call up the NIC connection as LAN is disabled on-start. Most distros now include a script which verifies whether a connection is possible via LAN - if not, then the card is disabled until you connect a cable to it. As mentioned earlier, the linux kernel carries all the information a user would need for (older) NIC cards, so there's no need for additional driver downloads.
Glad it worked out for you!

  • Envy 17-3070NR Linux Audio Driver

Hi,  What audio chipset is being used in the Envy 17-3070NR?  Is there a Linux driver for the audio hardware device(s)?  I am able to boot Ubuntu and several other recent linux distro's but none of them seem to have an integral audio driver that works with the audio chipset in this laptop.  So what device is it and/or where might I find a linux driver?

FWIW I just got my envy 17t-3000 audio to work.
It turns out I have 3 audio devices (hdmi, analog-internal, and a usb)  Things get wonky with all 3 loaded and as I'm not using the wirelss audio device I've put snd_usb_audio into my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file and Now I can get the internal speakers to work.
Note: I still had to fiddle with the audio manager to get it working.  but its working ok now. (ubuntu 11.04 + linux 3.2.3 vanilla kernel)

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic: Linux beta driver crashes on kernel 2.6

First i uninstalled the X-Fi drivers, then i updated my kernel to version 2.6.26 and did a new install of X-Fi drivers. Installation was successful, but while booting i get some oops messages. Is it possible for me to fix this?
And how long i have to wait for the next driver release? Audio recordings sounds a bit tinny and i'm missing a ruler to control the capture valume. Without that it is not very useful to make recordings. Last driver release was on 6.4.2008 and the X-Fi is on market since 2005. Is Creative sleeping?
    Now the Oops message:

  • G510 Wifi connection problem Linux WL driver broadcom BCM43142

    Hello,
I have recently bought a G510 laptop and all in all I like it - it does what I need it for. There is however one issue that really makes me reconsider even buying Lenovo again and that is the Wifi Card that is builtin.
The Broadcom BCM43142 currently only work with the broadcom-wl kernel module under Linux and it doesn't work well. I get disconnects every 1-10 minutes that last at least a minute which makes it almost impossible to use WiFi properly.
This wouldn't be so bad - after all WiFi cards are not very expensive but it turns out that all cards I tried so far are blocked by the BIOS.
@Lenovo: I realise that Linux users are probably not your priority but can you please at least publish a list of compatible WiFi cards for your Laptops?
    Regards,
    Uli

What is the Model no of the Router ?
Are you able to go online with another wireless computer ?
Try to lower down the security to WPA or WEP then, try to connect the wireless network. If still doesn't work then, upgrade the router's firmware and reconfigure it...
