Etherchannel suspended between Catalyst 4948 and VSS 6506E
Hello,
I describe an issue when i need to performe an L2 or L3 Etherchannel from a Catalyst 4948 IOS Enterprise and 2 xCatalyst 6506E bandled with VSS.
From the VSS Side when i plug cables i see on the physicals and Etherchannel that Physical and protocole layer are up. On the 4948 side,
I see that physical layer is up and protocol and Etherchannel interfaces are down.
On the Etherchannel port summary i see that the port state is supended.
On the first attempt, i have test with a L3 etherchannel on both side using no switchport with two IP addresses one at each side on etherchannel interfaces.
The etherchannel are bundled with LACP mode active and on the second attempt with PAGP mode ON.
The same configured on VSS 6506E work fine with Catalyst 3560E.
Please do you have any idea?
Hi David, when ı type "no mls qos channel-consistency" under port-channel
the issue was solved. But ı am not comfortable with that, Because ı want to use Qos feature
here the "show module all"

How to make optical connectivity between Catalyst 4948 and 10K router ?
Hi,
I am Ratheesh P D, network Manager of one project in Motorola. We have one catalyst 4948. Its going to get one 10K router. Our requirement needs optical connection between these two. The document of 4948 says, its compatible with 1000BaseX SFP and 10K is with 1000BaseSX SFP. Could you please tell me how to make these two compatible? For information regarding the optical connectivity in 4948 cat switch follow the url ,

Fast EtherChannel between Catalyst 3750 and 2821 Router
Hi Guys
I'm trying to setup a Fast EtherChannel between a cat3750-smi and a 2821 router that consists of only 2 links.
I am following instructions per TAC, but I'm getting an error along the way;
On the cat3750:
interface port-channel 1
no switchport
Command Rejected: Not a convertable port
Can anyone help???
Also... do the IP Addresses for the EtherChannel need to be the same for both port-channels? Or do I assign the switch like 192.168.1.1 and the router 192.168.1.2 ?
Thanks!
AdamHi Adam,
The ip address cannot be same but it should belong to same subnet. So one side 192.168.1.1 and other side 192.168.1.2 will work fine.
Its better to convert your layer 2 port as a layer port fist so what you do the port which you want to be port channel go that that interface and convert with "switchport" command
once it is a layer 3 port configure with channel group and automatically layer 3 port channel will be created and you can sssign an ip address then.
Just give a try and update if it works.

EtherChannel configuration between Copper interface and fiber Interface
Hi,
Need to check if Giga Etherchannel can be configured between Copper 10/100/1000BaseT and SFP 1000BaseT between two blades on a Cat 6506 with either Sup 720 or Sup32.I have configured etherchannel between two 3560G 48 port switches. Using a combination of 2 sx fiber and 2 1000tx copper interfaces. The resulting layer 2 channel supported upto 4gb. The notes from the cisco site indicate the following:
Configure all LAN ports in an EtherChannel to operate at the same speed and in the same duplex mode.
The following link refers to etherchannel for 6500 series switches:

Etherchannel issue between 3750 stack and WS-CBS3012 for IBM blade centre
Hi,
We are trying to configure Etherchannel between four ports of cisco 3750 stack(2ports from one switch of stack and two ports from another switch of same stack). We are facing issues with this setup. The ports in WS-CBS3012 are going to err disable mode.
Is there any limitations associated with such a cross-stack etherchannel configuration. Please suggest if there is any particular sequence of configuration involved.
Switch1 in stack
int gi 3/0/3
switchport mo trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10-30
sw tr en dot1q
channel-group 1 mode on
spanning-tree guard root
switch 2 in stack
int gi 3/0/3
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10-30
sw tr en dot1q
channel-group 1 mode on
spanning-tree guard root
int port-channel 1
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10-30
sw tr en dot1q
channel-group 1 mode on
spanning-tree guard root
in WS-CBS3012 ports are configured with trunk, allowed vlan and etherchannel configuration with mode on.
With Regards,
Madhan kumar GHi,
The commnad "no spanning-tree etherchannel guard misconfig" on WS-CBS3012 resolved the issue.

Cross switch etherchannel config between two 6500 and 3750
Dear All,
I would like to design the network and got some problem, my network have one 3750 and two 6500, I would like to setup the etherchannel from 3750 (total two uplink port together), one link to the first 6500 and the other link to second 6500, one trunk between 6500 for redundance.
I tried to use PAgP (auto/desirable, on/on), but the channel misconfig error occurred, the etherchannel keep in suspected or standalone state.
Anybody can suggest/recommend some method for this case.
ThanksUnfortunately, you cannot create an etherchannel from one device to two different devices. for example, from 3750 you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2. gig 1/0/1 of 3750 connects to port 1/1 of switch A and gig 1/0/2 of that same 3750 connects to port 1/2 of switch B. You can NOT create an etherchannel on 3750 to combine gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 to create a bigger pipe. That is not how etherchannel is designed to do.
However, if you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 on 3750 connecting to port 1/1 and 1/2 of switch A, you can create a channel on bith devices to create a bigger pipe (4 GBPS @ full duplex) and let's say that on that same 3750, you have an additional gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 that connects to ports 1/1 and 1/2 of switch B, you can create another separate channel that combines gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 and switch B's port 1/1 and 1/2, this scenarion is totally acceptable.
I hope that helps clear up channeling.
In your described scenario, channeling is not what you are asking, it's STP and you really do not need to do anything as STP is enabled by default, maybe you just need to make sure that the root is where you wnat it to be and that is configureable. With your looped physical topology, STP will prevent loop from forming and will give you the redundancy you seek as when one link fails, the ones blocked by STP would go forwarding once STP detects that it should forward that port.

We are looking at using a Cat4948 for a small data center and by looking at the specs it appears to be far superior than the Cat3750. But why is the 3750 priced higher, I keep thinking that we are missing something. Is there some features that the 3750 has over the 4948?
Hi,
The 4948 has redundant & hot swappable power supply and fan modules.
THe switching capacity (96 GBPS) is also more compared to the 3750(32GBPs). It is based on the 4500 model and gives you wire speed performance. It is the high end switch cisco has to offer in fixed configuration model.
The 3750 on the other hand has stacking capabilities. upto 9 switches can be stacked together and can be treated as a single switch operating on 32 GBPs backplane.
In a nutshell,If you want to use the switch for Layer 3 purposes i would suggest 4948.
but if you want a high density L3 switch but cannot afford a 4500 or 6500 then u can go for multiple 3750s and stack them

Cannot Establish Gigabit Link Between Catalyst Switches and GSR Router
The GSR Gigabit interface is configured for no negotiation auto and the line protocol goes up when connected to the Catalyst switch.
The Catalyst switch port remains unconnected even when it is physically attached to the GSR router. The flow control settings must match on both sides for the link to come up. It is highly recommended that you configure auto-negotiation to on for both devices. (Auto-negotiation is enabled by default on all Catalyst switches.) Otherwise, if you have a layer 1 problem, the link remains up and a unidirectional link will result.
The initial software releases that support Gigabit Ethernet on the GSR router do not support gigabit auto-negotiation.
The following command configures gigabit auto-negotiation on the Catalyst 6000/6500:
set port negotiation module/port disable|enable -
Dot1q Trunk between Catalyst 6500 and HP Blade Enclosures
We have a requirement to configure trunks to a 6500 and HP GbE2 interconnect switch in a blade enclosure.
The interconnect switches and the 6500 are connected as in the attachment.
The configuration was done using the documentation provided by HP for connecting these trunks to the 6500, but there seems to be some problem with STP.
All the network remains stable for a time and then falls over, traffic counts on the trunk interfaces shoots up to crazy values.
The access layer (consisting of 2950s) hanging off the 6500 also falls over and the interfaces on the trunks become err-disabled. This happens eventhough we are not trunking the 102-108 vlans that are trunked to the HP switches to these switches.
We need to run dot1q trunks to the HP blade switches, because of the requirement to have the servers within the blade enclosure in different VLANS. The vlans were configured as per the document provided by HP and the server ports assigned accordingly.
Has anyone managed to configure etherchannel trunks (dot1q) to HP blade switches? Any guidelines and findings will helpForgot the attachment....

Conecting etherchannel between cisco catalyst 6509 and hp procourve 9308
Impossible to connet 2 ports 1000base sx agrouped via etherchannel / lacp or pagp between a catalyst 6509 and a hp procourve 9308. Please do you know he best configuration? thanks in advance
Hola Luis,
the link would have to be LACP (since PAgP is Cisco proprietary). So, on the Cisco side, the config should look like this:
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 1 mode on
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 1 mode on
interface Port-channel1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
On the HP side, check how the trunk group is configured there. I assume you have used the ´trunk deploy´ command after configuring the HP trunk group ? Also, which spanning-tree mode do you have running on the Cisco and the HP ?

The difference of the IEEE802.1x Auth between Cisco Routers and Catalyst switches
Hello
I am investigating the difference of the IEEE802.1x Auth between Routers and Switches.
Basically dot1x auth is availlable on Catalyst Switches. however if I want to check to
PortBased Multi-Auth , MAC address Auth and any certification Auth with this feature,
Is it possible to integrate into Cisco Router such as Cisco 891F ?
In my opinion Cisco891F is also available to use basic IEEE802.1x but if it compares with Catalyst switches such as Cat3560X
I think there might be any unsupported feature on Cisco 891F.
I appreciate any information. thank you very much in advance.
Best Regards,
Masanobu HiyoshiMany time in interviews asked comaprison between cisco routers and switches that i was answerless bcoz i dont have much knowledge about that. Can anyone provide me the compariosin sheet of the same.how are the cisco devices differ with each other how much Bandwidth each routres support and Etc...
Ummmm ... The most common question I get is "what is the difference between a router and a switch".
However, if you get a question like this, then my impression to this line of questioning are:
1. The candidate they are looking for has in-depth knowledge of routers and switches. And I mean IN-DEPTH!;
2. They are not looking for a candidate. They just want to stroke their ego. There is not alot of people who can give you the "names and numbers" of routers and switches at a snap of a finger. And if you do happen to know the answer, then and there, then expect a tougher follow-up question. -
Round trip between Flash Builder and Catalyst?
Is it, or will it, be possible to go back to Flash Catalyst once a project as been brought into Flash Builder?
I have imported the .fxp project into Flash Builder, made some code changes, then exported a .fxp project out again. I want to be able to edit this in Catalyst so I can make design changes, but when I try to open the project Catalyst says it cannot be opened becuase it has been edited outside of the application. Is there something I am missing or has this simply not been implemented yet?
It would be a shame to not be able to "round trip" from Catalyst to Builder.
Thanks for your time and the product looks very exciting.Hi Watern,
For the first version of Catalyst, we're focusing on the one-way workflow from Catalyst to Builder (start in Catalyst, finish in Builder). We realize this is a big limitation and hope to address soon after the first release.
There are a number of partial solutions for this problem, which you can find by searching around the forum. Most of them involve dividing the work between Catalyst and Flash Builder as cleanly as possible, which is surprisingly easy to do given the new skinning architecture. Here's an excerpt from a post I wrote that seems to have been lost:
"If you are iterating between Catalyst and Builder on a custom component, you may find it is worth splitting the custom component out in that fashion. I'm planning to write an article explaining this, but here's a preview:
In Builder, create a new subclass of SkinnableComponent. Put the component logic in there.
If you need to add visual logic like "now move the konfabulator 10px to the left", you should make konfabulator a skin part, using the metadata (see Scrollbar.as, in the Flex 4 SDK, for an example).
If your component has states, declare them with the metadata.
In Catalyst, make sure that your custom component has those parts and states.
Then import the custom component into Builder.
In the MXML file for the custom component, change the root tag <Group> to <Skin>. It's now a skin (not a custom component).
In the MXML file for the skin, add the [HostComponent("com.me.MyComponent")] metadata (see HScrollbarSkin.mxml, in the Flex 4 SDK, for an example).
Wherever you are creating the instance, change the code <MyComponent/> to <MySkinnableComponent skinClass="MyComponent"/>. Now you're creating an instance of your skinnable component and assigning it the skin created in Catalyst.
Done! If you make more changes in Catalyst, you'll have to repeat steps 5-7 again (for now!)."

Virtual PortChannel Technology
Virtual PortChannels (vPCs) allow links that are physically connected to two different Cisco® switches to appear to a third downstream device to be coming from a single device and as part of a single PortChannel. The third device can be a switch, a server, or any other networking device that supports IEEE 802.3ad PortChannels.
Cisco NX-OS Software vPCs and Cisco Catalyst® Virtual Switching Systems (VSS) are similar technologies. For Cisco EtherChannel technology, the term “multichassis EtherChannel” (MCEC) refers to either technology interchangeably.
vPC allows the creation of Layer 2 PortChannels that span two switches. At the time of this writing, vPC is implemented on the Cisco Nexus® 7000 and 5000 Series platforms (with or without Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders).
