Ethernet adaptor for MacBook

While traveling internationally, I often run into hotels where wired Ethernet internet access is available in the room, but WiFi is available only in the lobby.
Is there an adaptor for the new MacBook Pro 15 retina that enables me to plug into a wired Ethernet?  Maybe it would be a dongle, similar to the iPad-->HDMI out adaptor...?
Thank you!

Yes.  You can use one of a higher wattage, just not a lower wattage.

  • Is there an SDXC adaptor for Macbook Air 11

Is there an SDXC adaptor for Macbook Air 11

For computers without a built-in camera card reader, you can purchase one for use
with a USB port. So long as the adapter is qualified for use with SDXC, it should work.
    Good luck!

  • What can I migrate from my 13" MacBook (white 2007) to a new MacBook Air 13" using an ethernet cable and a USB ethernet adaptor for the MBA?

I have, on order, a 13" MacBook Air (128Gb) and intend using Migration Assistant to transfer data from my 4 year old MacBook 13" (White) on set up.
I have ordered an Apple USB Ethernet adaptor and have today purchased an Ethernet cable.
    I will want to transfer;
Mail........Mailboxes, their contents and account settings. In fact the lot except the application itself.
Safari..... Bookmarks, Cookies, Saved Passwords etc. As above
    Google Chrome.........same
    Address Book
    iCal
    iTunes
    iPhoto
Documents. Excel, Word, Powerpoint & pdf's (a clean install of Office for Mac 2011 will take place on the MBA)
MacBook and applications are currently up to date and I've read about disabling the energy saver to sleep option.
Is it all that simple or am I missing something?
Can Account Information in Mail be migrated?
Will saved links be transferred in Safari (especially that of my ISP's customer area)? You have no idea what navigating around Orange France is like !
Sorry if I sound a little naïve but I'm English, retired and living in France and the nearest Apple Store is a 3 hour drive away so I'm doing it all myself.
    Thanks
    Richard

Use Setup Assistant when your new Mac first starts up.  See Using Setup Assistant on Lion (it's a bit more complete).
Unless you choose to omit things, that will set your new Mac up exactly like the old one, except for a few preferences, etc., that may be different for the different hardware.
If your old Mac isn't running Lion, there will be some other differences, too.  See Changes in Lion from Snow Leopard.

  • Travel adaptor for Macbook with magsafe connector?

Has anyone found anyone that sells a aircraft travel adaptor for the Macbook?
Kensington do one for the old iBook but a magsafe connector version has not appeared.
Hopefully this is not becasue Apple have patented the design of the magsafe connector and are not letting anyone else produce them.
If this is indeed the case, and Apple don't produce their own travel adapter, I will be quite cross as the whole point of having a laptop is so you can take it with you when you are travelling.
If the voltages for the iBook are the same as the Macbook how about producing an iBook to Magsafe adapter so we can use the 3rd party travel adapters?

I just checked and the prongs on my MB adapter are exactly the same as the ones on my iPod power adapter. They should work just fine.
From a manufacturing standpoint, it makes no sense to have two different products for the same exact job.

  • Gigaware USB - Ethernet adaptor with MacBook Air

Where does one find instructions to get this device to work on a MacBook Air with Yosemite?

I had the same problem. Apple Support said to install the Ethernet adapter while Windows was running and then run the install disk and it will find the driver. (Running in BootCamp - all updates included for XP)
That doesn't work. It didn't for me our our IT person. Their solution was install a USNB ethernet adapter for Windows. When they installed that software on the Windows it shut down my blut tooth mouse and the track pad. I don't know what they did but they got the mouse and track pad working again but not the adapter.
There is a fix you can Google but I am reluctant to buy it - I think a fix will show up soon - best get a wireless modem for now and if you are worried about security just unplug it when you are not using it.

  • Where can I find a driver for STLab USB 2.0 to VGA Adaptor for Macbook Air

Where can I find a driver for STLab, USB 2.0 to VGA Adaptor for Mcbook Air

    Thank you for the response.
I downloaded it and it keeps telling me "No Scanner Detected." I looked on their website under supported scanners, found my Microtek ScanMaker 3600 and it says "NO" for Mac.
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/microtek_scanmaker_3600.html
I just sent an email to them asking if VueScan does support a my scanner. I hope it does. I have been searching but am not proficient or know enough of what to look for. I just don't want to have to buy another scanner.

  • Is there usb to firewire adaptor for macbook air

I have macbook air and want to connect my lacie drive via firewire but dont have a firewire port.  can you connect via a usb to firewire adaptor?

Going down such as Thunderbolt to Firewire might be an option, but best bet for that is probably going to be Apple...Thunderbolt is an Apple invention.
Sonnett makes really great products, I put one of their G4 processor cards, when you could still do that, into my PPC Mac and changed it from a 604e processor to a G4.  Worked flawlessly.  Their products are very likely to do exactly as advertised.
Speed of connection goes: USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, Thunderbolt.  Unfortunately there are not very many Thunderbolt drives on the market at this point.  Too new technology.

If you don't have internet access at home via some sort of service, a test run isn't going to help if you don't have anything to connect to. You can play around with things if you have a working wireless router (I actually did that before my cable internet was installed). Most people have home systems that are connected via wireless access points and/or wired switches - in order to share an internet connection. Some newer homes even come with pre-wired setups that can be connected to a ethernet switches.
At college, it sounds like you'll likely have a shared ethernet network connected to an "RJ45" outlet in your dorm room. This is pretty much similar to a home or business network.

  • Configure ethernet adapter for MacBook Air

We use a dock with a MacBook Air.  Both were purchased about six months ago.  The dock has an ethernet port.  Under the Network Preferences I only see a wireless connection. Will I see the ethernet connection when docked?  If not how can I be sure the ethernet is being used?
    Gregg

It could depend on the dock's compatibility with Lion/Mountain Lion. Some ethernet connectors will not function with recent changes in the OS. Even Apple's own USB ethernet adapter is incompatible. Users find that only the Thunderbolt-ethernet adapter will work.

  • Correct Video Adaptor for MacBook?

Hello - I am trying to connect my MacBook to a new LED Cinema display. The cinema display has a Mini display connection, my Macbook seems to have a larger display connection. I cannot seem to find the correct adaptor to connect my Macbook in the MacStore....any suggestions?

A component such as this one can be used to connect that display to a DVI port.

  • Third party power adaptor for MacBook Pro?

I am about to lose my second power pack due to under-engineered wiring on these Apple power supplies. The wires are very small and thin, and the strain relief at the entrance to the "brick" is totally inadequate, so the wires end up breaking under daily use. I looked at the iGo website, only to find out that there is some sort of licensing issue with Apple that prevents them from selling tips for the magnetic connectors that are in vogue. Kensington apparently doesn't supply any Apple adaptors anymore.
Does anyone know of a third party company that makes a replacement power supply that will hold up under normal usage for more than a year?
    Thanks

    Hi Justin,
The very first of the square power adaptors (which came with an early white iBook) which we own developed a problem of the kind you mention. Since then we've done one simple thing with all of the many that have followed with a variety of iBooks, PBs, MBs and MBPs, and never lost another.
We simply make a loose loop of the cord around one of the "legs" of the adaptor:
We leave the loop in place both when using the computer and when winding the cord around the legs for transport.
Not what you were asking for, I know, but it has certainly stopped any problems we have had with strain on the cord
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Can I use a Macbook power adaptor for MacBook Pro ?

    Hi,
Is its safe to use a power adaptor from a Macbook (white), to charge my Macbook Pro.
The difference is in the output of the adaptors: 3.65A (Macbook) vs. 4.56A (Macbook Pro).
    Thanks,
    Ori

In the past, I had an IBM Thinkpad laptop, when my adapter broke, I borrowed an adapter from a colleague. This adapter also had a lower capacity than the original adapter (I don't remember by how much).
It ran really hot but the Thinkpad would run fine on it, though it would only charge the battery if I turned it off... So either charging the battery or working with the laptop...
I'd say use it until you get the chance to buy a new one...

  • Is there an adaptor for MacBook Pro so that it may be charged in a charging cart?

We have a charging cart for our iPads, and about half of the ports are free.  Wondering if there is any way to charge our MacBooks in the same cart?  (rather than have them scattered throughout the room...and we do not have a 2nd cart for them)

If you use a cart with adjustable dividers, and adjustable depth backstop, you can accomplish both tasks. I would suggest that you visit www.ipadcarts.com. Their Netvault cart can do both. If you call them, ask for Joe. We have found him to very knowledgeable and helpful.
