Ethernet connectability completely frozen-out by frozen SES-mode; WTR54GS

On a reset i accidentilly hit the SES button, now on my ethernet connection, the "Secure Easy Setup" button is frozen white. i've browsed th web, found other people have encountered same problem.
i've spent probably 100 hours, trying many fixes, including your company's suggestions -- to no avail! (note: multiple reset attempts still won't fix this).
my PC and ethernet card work fine on other products, it's just that wtr54gs has now frozen me out by your proprietary SES-mode. i've tried, via the wireless set-up, assigning fixed ip ( e.g. : 192.168.16.100) to my ethernet + your suggsted 192.168.16.50 to re-flash firmware -- nothing works! can't even get a dhcp ip from wtr54gs,because the frozen SES-mode has my ethernet connectability completely frozen-out.
re-flash firmware won't go on wirelessly either, a "failure" message appears like "not suficient system resources" -- **bleep**! -- on my Windows task manager networking screen i see i'm sending megabits of
firmware data, but the wtr54gs only picks up about 10% of the sent amount -- seems the wtr54gs can't handle the speed my wireless adapter is sending it ( also connection is strong, i'm 4 feet away from it ). i don't know how to force data rate to go slower ( on ethernet card i've reduced rate + to half-duplex, but, of course that a no go, since the wtr completely has my ethernet connection frozen-out in the first place, my original concern!).
i bought a D-link DWL-G730AP travel router, hoping theirs would be better, but it's very shoddy, very poor reception and difficult interface. i'm returning that. i long for the days when my Linksys product used
to work -- Please Help Me Fix It !!!
i used to use wtr54gs as a client-mode, connected to my PC via the ethernet connection, and the wtr54gs incoming internet connection was set to "wireless" -- all woked great, until this freezing-out problem.
if the SES-mode is internally permanently freezing me out on ethernet connectability, it appears i'm going to have to get a replacement ( as, other people on the web, similarly-situated, have stated).
my original purchase was about $60, but i see Amazon is recently selling the wtr54gs for $180!! -- i'm NOT buying a replacement at that cost!! please, either help me fix my frozen wtr54gs, or, since i'm
covered by warranty, tell me the procedure to get a replacement / exchange.

  • Ethernet connection to an AirPort Extreme in extended mode?

    Hi folks....
I just installed an airport express as a wifi extender for an airport extreme and everything is working fine.  My reason for purchasing the extender is to provide an ethernet hook-up point for my "network ready" Denon AVR 2113ci receiver.  I stress "network ready" because it is not "wireless" or "wifi enabled" but it does have an RJ45 ethernet connection to hardwire connect via ethernet cable to a network.  Unfortunately, I can find no way to set up the airport express to allow me to do this? when I connect the receiver and attempt to set up the network connection I'm advised there is no network available.  I purchased the Denon specifically because it was designed to use apple airplay so I don't think it's a compatibility issue?  Thanks much for any advice!
    Regards and Merry Christmas!

Suggest that you check to make sure that the Express is really "extending".
Temporarily, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect it to the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable that you know is working.
See if the computer can log on to the Internet. If it can, you know that you have a network signal at the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express.
    What are your results?

  • My ethernet connection is sometimes slow

Sometimes my ethernet (CAT 6 cable) slows down. Please help with set ups and diagnostics.

Yea, I have tried two different ethernet cables. Today the ethernet connection completely stopped working. It still says the ethernet cable is connected, but now I can't access the internet at all.
I know Verizon says its my computer, but the modem I have is pretty old. We got in when DSL first came out. Do you think that would cause issues?
My friend has the exact same Macbook as me, she also has Verizon for internet service, but a newer modem and it worked fine. She said she just set up like you normally would and she has never had ANY issues with it.

  • Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the internet by ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well.

Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the Internet by Ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no Internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well. Could the other wireless laptops being used in my flat be affecting my connection. what can I do to get connected, keep connected. Thanks for any ideas out there.

My network connected for a few hours then went back to timing out. I have not changed anything. However there four additional laptop users in my family who do not seem to be having any problems using their wireless connection. Could their film and music downloads be causing the timing out of my connection and if so is there a way I could prioritizes my computer or limit their use?

  • My MacBook freezes occasionally...is there a way to bring it out of frozen?  What would be causing it to freeze?

My MacBook freezes @ least once a week.  I have to shut it down.  What might be causing it to freeze & is there another way to bring it out of frozen other than shutting it down?

Not enough free space on the disk can cause the system to freeze...
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space
Check the startup disk in case it needs repairing >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.5)  <  your profile
If that is correct, when you can, you need to update to v10.6.8
Updates are available from your Apple menu > Software Update...
Not enough RAM can cause the operating system to freeze also. You may want to consider increasing memory. To see how much memory you have installed click your Apple menu icon then click About This Mac. That will prompt the System Profiler. See Memory under Hardware on the left.

  • Frozen out of Business Catalyst?

I'm trying to merge my account and I'm creating a new  Adobe ID account, but I get this error: "This Adobe ID email address is  already registered with Business Catalyst and cannot be merged with a  different Business Catalyst account."
That error  message is displayed because the email address that you have chose when  trying to create the Adobe ID is already used as an Adobe ID, or is  already used in the Business Catalyst system.
To solve this, enter another email address.
this makes no sense...   just got this, after I signed in with my adobe id.  And Im frozen out?  need help?...  thanx

I don't think this kind of sign in error can be solved by yourself.
Adobe have a very handy chat support for BC-partners. If they can not solve your problem they can escalate it to other department of Adobe. The support whoever needs that you are able to use your  Adobe ID. If this is not the case, try using the public available form at http://www.businesscatalyst.com/contact to get in touch with a BC support member.

I just downloaded IOS 8.5.3 on my iPad3. Now I cannot open it. Whenever I touch the screen Siri tells me what I am doing, but nothing works: I cannot enter my password and I cannot slide to open. I am frozen out from my iPad

you are right about the IOS number. I couldn't access my iPad so I guessed and guessed wrong about the number. It was the latest upgrade offered by Apple for my iPad, which I dowloaded and installed. I have done some sleuthing and discovered that some of the problems are the result of the Accessibility - Voiceover being activated. Once I figured that out, I was able to navigate somewhat better, though I now cannot turn Voiceover off. I slide the button and it just revert to On. The other problem I have now discovered that the iPad only rarely will accept my password. This is a password that I know and love and use many times during the day (as all of us iPhone and iPad users do) Now it seems to reject my password 80+% of the time. I would disable password protection if I could. I think I am going to have to talk to Apple directly but wonder if anyone else has had this kind of trouble with the newest IOS. It worked fine on my iPhone.
I will try triple tapping the home button if I can ever get it opened again.

  • Multiple ethernet connections on a WDS with AirPort Express?

Going through the AirPort Admin Utility and Airport Setup Assistant, and the various pdf manuals, the only way I can seem to create a WDS is for each device to be a wireless bridge.
Even setting it up initially as a WDS that connects using AirPort (default config from the setup assistant), then changing it to connect via Ethernet completely broke the bridging and caused much mayhem.
I'd prefer to set up the new Express device as a wired bridge, as I have a spare ethernet connection on the same subnet. I presume this would lessen the overhead needed by the WDS in general and would speed up the overall performance slightly.
Does anybody have any clue how to go about this, if it is possible? I bet it's something small and stupid I've overlooked.
Going back about ten pages in this forum didn't seem to cover this subject, so I apologize if I'm bringing up this subject AGAIN. Oh yeah, and all Airport Express devices involved are on firmware v6.3
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Disable the distribution of IP Address on the Express setup.
You don't mention if you are using Airport Express or Extreme for your Main Base. If so then here is the link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454
If you are using a 3rd party Router as your Main Base then you will need to check out one of these 2 links and remember not all 3rd party routers are capable of WDS setup.

  • 2 ethernet connection error

I am installing a new WRT54G on my computer. Followed all the instructions on disk for the connections for computer to my Surfboard cable modem to the router. When it tries to read the router, it doesn't read it. What happens is I lose my internet connection. The error pops up that I have 2 ethernet connections open. This is my first and only ethernet that i know of. What's the problem?

Your router should work when set to its factory default settings.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, power down the computer and router.   Using an ethernet cable, wire the ethernet port on the modem to the Internet port on the router.  Leave the computer wired to LAN port 1 on the router.   Power up the modem and allow it to fully boot (1-5 minutes).  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).  Power up your computer.  Test your Internet connection.  It should work.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Can't establish ethernet connection

    Current wireless set up:
    I have two networks:
    1) Internet connectivity via Linksys WRK54G router. The Linksys is connected to my Westell modem via Ethernet connection.
    2) The second network has two Airport Express Base Stations. Each is connected to a stereo amp to support Airtunes.
To date I simply switch between the two networks depending on whether I’m connecting to the internet or playing iTunes.
    My problem:
I’m trying to replace my Linksys router with an additional Airport Express Base Station. This base station would provide internet access as well as support a network printer for the connected Macs & PCs (iMAc, Macmini, Windows PC, 2 Windows laptops). Hopefully, accomplishing all my task with one network.
I connected the Ethernet line and printer to the new AX base station and began the set up (adding it to my existing Airport network). Once the set up process was completed my iMac indicated that I was connected to the web. However, I was not able to access any live pages. I also noticed that the Ethernet light on my Westell modem was not on (which it is when connected to the Linksys router). During this process I successfully knocked out the connection to my two existing AX base stations. That left me with no connectivity.
However, once I reconnected the Ethernet cable to the Linksys modem (and changed the iMac back to the old network) I had instant Ethernet connectivity (the two stereo base stations were still off line). I tried to powering everything down (modem overnight) but I don’t seem to be able to disconnect the Westell from the Linksys router. I’m in the process of contacting Bellsouth to see how I reset the modem. I figured if I could establish the Ethernet connection, I could then work on reconnecting to the remaining two AX base stations (stereos).
Am I on target? I’m missing something, but I have no idea were to turn.

it sounds like a configuration with your AX. Try setting one of your AXs to function as a wireless router/home network. this should enable the ethernet port on the AX and you can still use it for printing and airtunes. (You're getting the wireless signal from the AX, but your ethernet is disabled.)
for the second AX, try setting that as a client - this will disable the ethernet but keep your printing and airtunes.
There is a doc on setting the AX to client mode.

  • Ethernet connection lost after update to 10.5.7

I lost my Ethernet connection after the 10.5.7 update. I have checked all cables and ports. Any ideas?

Hi, I tried rebooting with shift down, then rebooting again. No network still.
I looked in /var/log/system.log, but nothing from AppleYukon2.
I pasted the relevant portion from system.log beginning with the shutdown prior to rebooting with shift. I hope there's not too much text...........
The log below includes the reboot while holding shift as well as the subsequent reboot.
I did see several useful messages in the system log (below), for example:

  • Help with PC- Time Capsule direct ethernet connection

First let me say that PCs are a total mystery to me - I am a Mac person all the way. That being said, I do own a PC for the occasional situation where I can't do what I need to do on a Mac (something that is happening less and less these days).
I just got a TIme Capsule that I configured through my MacBook and which is working fine. I am trying to hook up my PC (which does not have wireless capability) via a direct ethernet connection. The PC seems to recognize that it's on a local network, but cannot connect to the Internet. I have tried going through the various network configuration wizards on the PC and nothing seems to be what I need. Help has been useless. Can anyone help give me some hints about what I need to do to get the PC to recognize that there is an Internet on the other side of the Time Capsule connection?

I am still interested, thanks! Just couldn't get to things during the week. I am running WIndows XP Home Edition. I have to ask you to spell out things a little bit more. To start with setting DHCP - I am not sure how to do that. I tried using Help and it gives me nothing useful.
When I run Network Connections I see a Local Area Connection listed. Type: LAN or High-Speed Internet. Status: Connected: Device Name: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Phone # or Host Address: <blank> Owner: System.
Double click it, get Status: Connected, Duration: <counting up> Speed: 100.0 Mbps.
Under Support, Connection Status, everything is blank (Address Type, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway). This does not seem good. But I am not allowed to enter anything on this screen. If I click Repair, it says "Window could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network. (LOL - that would be me)"
There's a control panel for the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite. The IP Address is 192.168.0.101. I don't see anything there about DHCP or TCP/IP.
There's an "Internet Options" controller, where I found an Internet Connections Wizard, but that doesn't seem to do it. I say I want to connect to the internet using an ethernet connection, and then it says "Your broadband connectiion should already be configured and ready to use. If your connection is not working properly, click the following link. (Which is "Learn more about broadband connections"). This is a help page that sends me back to Network Connections (where I started).
Nowhere have a found a place to set DHCP or addresses.
Please, if you can, tell me where to look to adjust these settings. Thanks very much for your help.

  • My Airport Extreme and iMac appear to have the same IP address as a result of installing a new ATT modem via direct ethernet connection. How can I reset the Airport IP without disturbing the iMac setting if the iMac can't reach the Airport?

My provider's (ATT) modem recently went bad and though I usually use an Airport Extreme connection to the modem I had to start up their new modem via a direct ethernet connection from my computer to the modem. In trying to restart my Airport to modem via ethernet connection I was told that my computer IP and Airport ID are the same and so now my computer will not connect to the Airport. How can I best get out of this situation?

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.
