Ethernet-Connected ATV-2 Won't Recognize Ethernet-Connected PwrMac G4
Hey all,
My Power Mac G4, which is connected to a Belkin router (Play Model F7D4302) via an ethernet cable, is not detected through Home Sharing by my Apple TV 2.
(It's probably worth noting that the G4 has stopped appearing on my wireless network altogether. It used to play flawlessly with my MacBook Air and my Apple TV , but recently it has stopped becoming available through Home Share. I can only conclude it has something to do with the Belkin router, as I did not have this problem before I bought the thing.)
I've gone through the rudimentary processes you would try early on - restarted the router, my Power Mac, my MacBook Air and the Apple TV, as well as put factory restore settings on my router.
I've noticed when I connect the Apple TV wirelessly it bonds effortlessly to my MacBook Air, but when I connect the Apple TV via ethernet, it no longer recognizes the Air (which is still on wireless) or the G4 (which is hardwired).
What's going on here? Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, as I'm currently trying to curb my addiction to Psych by watching it on my hi-def TV via Apple TV!
The devices must be connected to the same network.
Apparently the Wi-Fi and Ethernet are not the same network.

Mac Pro won't recognize ethernet connection
My Mac Pro won't recognize the Ethernet cable when it's plugged in. I know the cable and connection are good because my MacBook Pro recognizes it with no problem. I've had it for around a year, but have always used the airport to connect to the internet. It has two Ethernet ports on the back and I've tried both. Is there anything I need to do to configure the NIC card?

RyanNo, but you do need to configure the Ethernet port in Network preferences. Open Network preferences and select the Ethernet port. Click on the Advanced button then on the TCP/IP tab. Set the Configure IPv4 drop down menu to DHCP. Set the Configure IPv6 drop down menu to Off. Click on the Apply button. If all is well you should see a valid IP address in the network settings for the port. If you see an IP address starting with 169., then it means your Ethernet port is not getting an IP address from your router. You should have an Ethernet cable connected from the Ethernet port on the computer to one of the LAN ports on your router.

My Macbook fell off the table and everything is fine except that it won't recognize the ethernet cable as being plugged in anymore. I have tried other e-net cables and I know the connection if fine because my friends laptop connects without a problem. Should I just go to a mac store?
In System Preferences>Network, is Ethernet an option?
I think you should head to an Apple store and have the folks there take a look.

Brand new 20" iMac won't recognize Ethernet cable - can't get online
I just got my iMac and cannot get the ethernet cable to recgonize. I know it works b/c I'm using it this very moment to type this on my Powerbook. When I plug it into the PB, I get the yellow,then the green once it connects. However, when I plug it into the iMac, I get nothing. I thought maybe I needed to configure Built-In Ethernet, but it won't let me select configure or connect. The assistant won't recognize it either. I posted in the Tiger forum mistakenly, but thought this forum would be more appropriate. This is what I posted (for more detail):
I just unboxed my new iMac and can't get on the internet (I'm on my powerbook). The problem is this; in Network, it says "The cable for Built-In Ethernet is not plugged in." Only, it is. Can't be the cable b/c that's the cable I'm connected with right now. So, I go through "assist me" and when I click on "Assistant" it takes me to the Intro page where I'm supposed to give a Location Name. I do this, calling it "home." The ver next screen, after clicking "continue" takes me to "How do you connect to the internet?" The problem here is that, of the 5 options, only one is selectable. Airport is the only one that can be selected?? "I use a telephone modem to dial my ISP" as well as "DSL Modem/Cable/Lan" are all greyed out..they cannot be selected. I use an ethernet cable. Why is this not able to be selected? It's very frustrating. I've turned off Airport and Bluetooth, yet I still cannot check any of these. I need to check "I use a cable modem to dial my ISP" but I can't b/c it won't allow me. Can anyone help me here? I can't use my brand new iMac and it's kind of a bummer. I thought these things were plug and play? ThankWell I tried that and nothing. I'm completely stumped. I have no idea why this is happening. And it's weird b/c, everytime I'm jumping back on here, I'm just unhooking the ethernet cable from the iMac and plugging it into my PB. And, nearly immediately, i'm up and running, connected with the PB. How can it work on the PB and not on the iMac? And why would those options be grayed out on the iMac? It's like it just refuses to let me check them and/or configure. That is very weird.

My ipad currently has ios 5.1.1 and won't recognize any available update for ios 6. I have tried on the ipad and connected to itunes and both say up to date. How to I update to ios 6?

I just bought a new pc and for our internet connection we have an airport express. My laptop can connect to it but my airport utility won't recognize it. Even though it does connect to the internet about every 15 minutes the internet shuts off. What should I do?
If you've not yet tried, unpower the AppleTV for a minute or so and restart - this occasionally corrects issues.
If not and the software update seems to have caused an issue, go to the Settings menu and choose to Restore it (this will erase all settings) to reapply current firmware.

I have music on my iTunes library that I want to put on my iPhone 4S, but when I plug in my phone to my computer, my device does not appear in iTunes. It is connected to my computer, but iTunes won't recognize it... I have restarted my phone and computer, uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it, and punched a wall. idk what to do..
Unplug your Iphone out of your computer and replug it back in. It took me several times before I could do this

does the iO 26 require a driver? check the Alesis web site to make sure you have the latest, if it does.
if not, the first suspect would be the cable, try another FW cable.
less likely is one of the FW ports, if you have another FW device you might see if it works on the Mac, for the interface you might need to visit a music store to test it -

After Stopping it and Restarting and it is still not reconizing your device Then start uninstalling
Start with: Itunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device.
I had an issue uninstalling Apple Software Update, and was unable to get it off my computer.
But after all that download and reinstall itunes.
After doing all that i was able to get mine to show up in itunes

My sons iPod touch stopped working, it won't charge in a docking station and the computer/itunes won't recognize it when connected. We have tried holding the power and home button at the same time for several seconds, and the screen still stays black. Thanks!
Hello skdog I possibly think your ipod touch is black because it has not charged. If your dock is broken it might just mean the dock will be broken and so might be the USB port. You should see an Apple shop nearby and hand it over and see what they can do. I hope this information works!

Windows won't recognize Nano connecting.
My genius friend decided to plug my iPod into his xbox 360, and now windows won't recognize my iPod Nano, and it won't turn on, and I don't know what to do.
Try reading my post "Is your IPOD very slow to connect and eject and it appears to lock-up?". I think it is on page 2 of this discussion forum now.
This worked for me and I've had emails from other people saying that this fixed their problem.

my iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?
Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.

What operating system are you using? Have you checked to see if there
are updated drivers for the phone?
What PC Suite are you referring to? It might actually be interfering
with PSA's ability to "see" the phone.
