Ethernet connection with PC

I have a Power Mac G4 with Mac 9.2.2, and a PC with windows 2000. Is there a way to connect the two with an ethernet cable? I need to transfer a file from the pc to the mac... Any ideas?

Two simple solutions.
Copy the PC file to a USB thumb drive & then transfer the thumb drive to the Mac.
eMail the file as an attachment from the PC. Then open the eMail on the Mac & download the file.

  • No Ethernet Connection with Road Runner

    Hi Everybody,
I have a bizarre problem. I just moved into a new apartment that is connected via Time Warner's Road Runner. Currently, we only have an ethernet connection via the Time Warner Router.
My MacBook (Model2,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) connects easily with the ethernet. Open Safari and go! no problem at all.
However, the MacBook of my wife (Model3,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) does NOT connect via the ethernet cable. I tried everything from new starts to entering IPs that my other MacBook got. There is no connection to the internet.
Any ideas why this could happen?
    All the Best, Crobus

Are you using a router? If so what make and model? What cable modem do you have? Have you done the following:
Turn off everything including cable modem, router (if any), and the computers. Wait at least one minute. Then turn on the cable modem. Wait until the status lights show connection to the ISP. Then turn on the router. Wait until its status light shows connection with the cable modem. Last turn on the computers. Be sure you have Network preferences properly configured.
If the other computer still fails to get a connection then try deleting the following files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist (if it exists)
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    preferences.plist
Then restart the computer. You will have to re-configure the Network preferences.

  • Password for ethernet, connecting with AirPort Express?!

I live in a student-house, and normally connects with a cable to the wall (ethernet). I´ve got a password from the University where I study, and have to use this to connect with the ethernet.
My question; Can I place the ethernet-cable into the AirPort Extreme, and make it work on my mac, even though there´s a password? (can I type in this password somewhere during the installation?)
I´m no good at this, and I´m really really tired of having to use the cable on my mackbook....

Okey, than I wont try no more...
    Thank you so much!!

  • Ethernet connection with Ubuntu on Infinity and HH...

    Dear BT
We use a wireless connection in our flat using the Home Hub 3 supplied with the Infinity broadband.
I upgraded to Infinity a couple of months ago and I must admit that I wasn't really paying much attention to the internet connection as I only really surf the net.
However my wife was using the BBC Iplayer to watch something and the programme kept halting and having to reload, so she asked me to find out what was happening after "paying this money for fibre optic that doesn't seem to work"!
So I investigated and I played around (technical term) with settings on the Home Hub 3, changing the channel to channel 1 (from auto-detect) and the speed improved by 10 fold! From 2Mbps to 21 Mbps - got it sussed I thought.
(BTW even though the HH3 uses 802.11n standard, my older laptop only uses .11b/g technology so I can probably get even better speeds using the wireless but that is for another investigation and/or purchase of a 802.11n dongle)
Looking at other forums (fora?) I noted that it is recommended (by BT as well as others) that an ethernet connection will make the Infinity downloads even faster.
Hence, this is what I am now trying to do.
As recommended, I have attached the (BT-supplied-with-package) ethernet connection cable to the GiGE ethernet port on the back of the HH3 and plugged in the ethernet cable to the laptop.
I am running UBUNTU Linux 11.10 (the latest version) and the ethernet connection was immediately recognised.
However, when I attempted to browse the net, there was no internet connection - ie my laptop hasn't seem to have connected as every web page says that the internet connection cannot be found.
I have disabled the wireless connection on the laptop (via software options at the top right hand menu) but still nothing from the WWW via the cable option.
So the ethernet has been recognised but are there any 'special' settings that I need to do to enable access to the internet? (eg I see from the ethernet connection properties that it uses IPV6 and a whole raft of internet xx.xx.xx.xx addresses. Do these mean anything specific or do they need to be changed? What about DHCP? What about any login information - is this needed?)
All in all I have absolutely no complaints about BT (never have in all the years I have been with them), nor any of their products. I simply need some connection guidance here please to help me take full advantage of etherenet and Infinity on my Linux laptop.
    Many thanks

    Hello gsd4me,
You are not alone with this problem. A long thread here wih all the gorey details (and top notch screenshots):

  • Ethernet connection with Keithley 2701: Error in Initialize

    Hi,
I am a beginner with Labview 2009 and am trying to interface my Keithley 2701 with an Ethernet connection. I can access the instruments internal web page and successfully use the interactive control panel so I don't think my computer is having a problem connecting to the instrument. When I run the Example VI's provided by Keithley/NI (obtained from the find instrument drivers) it works with a serial connection but when I connect with the Ethernet I get the Error: "Error -1073807343 occurred at VISA open in Keithley 27xx.lvlib: Initialize.vi". I have configured a TCPIP address through Keithley's configuration panel and the Keithley 2701 IP address shows up in the Example VI's as a port to communicate with yet fails when it tries to run the VI. If anyone has had any experience with this problem or may know how to solve it I would greatly appreciate the help.
    Thanks!

I have tried to list the device in MAX. However the following is given:
"VISA returned this static device when finding resources, and MAX was able to use VISA to parse the resource name.  MAX was not able to successfully open a VISA session to the device."
The following post says the MAX has an issue connecting to TCPIP ports
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/92D475E7246846E786256ED700556D98
I am currently trying to run the VI given in the page above but as of now I keep receiving the same error message.
    Thanks.

  • Sharing ethernet connection with airport card from ( iMac 17" intel)

I have recently upgraded from a 800 15" iMac to a new 17" intel iMac - before the upgrade it would share the ethernet connection to the internet with sharing and broadcast the signal to my FW800 powerbook ( or any other mac in the house ( no problems)
Now with the new Imac set up I enable sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport ( same as before) I can see the computer ( sharing the connection) in the airport menu of my FW 800 PB - when I try and connect I get an error message ?
Looking for any tips or direction? I searched this forum ans apple support pages and did not find an answer... PB = OS 10.3.9 - Imac = OS 10.4.5

    Hey thanks for the welcome!
The error message said " there is an error in connecting to ..."
OK ( after just checking it again) go figure - I turned off sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport on the iMac - and turned it back on and voila! I am now connected using the PB - ??? Must have been a reset issue?
lets see if this is a solid connection...
    Thanks for the fast reply!

  • Can't share ethernet connection with PS3!

I have a wi-fi network that does not support PS3 so I am trying to share my ethernet with it instead. The thing is, everytime I turn on Wi-fi - so that I can share - it ends up trying to connect to that existing wi-fi network instead. Any ideas on how to stop this? Thanks!

I found another thread right after I posted and seem to have solved the problem following the steps described there (plus a couple more).

  • Getting an Extreme basstation to share a wired ethernet connection with a G

    Hi folks,
I've got a couple of laptops (PC + Powerbook), a G5 and an airport extreme basstation.
The G5 never moves from where the extreme basstation is, so can I connect my G5 to the cable modem by ethernet cable and then feed a connection into the bassstation through my other ethernet port? My aim is to have a hard-wired connection on my main computer to maximise speed, and run the laptops on a wireless network.

Your internet connection speed to the G5 will never be compromised by having it connect via the Airport Base Station. Plus, the Base Station handles all the processing involved with functioning as a router - doing the same with a G5 would require having the MacOS "internet connection sharing" feature enabled so that all network traffic between your LAN and the internet would have to be processed by the G5 itself.
To satisfy yourself - do an experiment. Compare the internet connection speed you get on the G5 when it is connected directly to the modem, vs connecting via the LAN port of an Airport Base Station (with no wireless clients connected to the Base Station at the same time).
Most people don't realize how very slow their internet connection is, relative to how fast a router (like the Base Station) is actually able to process the data - and few broadband internet connections come anywhere close to having their connection speed compromised with an Airport Base Station in the loop.

  • (Solved) Bridge ethernet connection with Samsung TV

Hello, on my laptop I connect to the internet through my built in wireless adapter. I am trying to give my samsung tv a local network connection. I do not care about sharing my wireless internet through the ethernet althought that would be a convenient plus. However, I run to able to use my wireless internet while keeping the ethernet bridge. I run ps3 media server currently using my wireless connection but wired is more stable and so I want use that. I unplugged the wireless adapter from the samsung tv to get rid of the conflict. I am using KDE and networkmanager (the actual tray applet designed for kde is in use). I prefer to set this up graphically using networkmanager if possible.
Output of lspci | grep -i net
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
According to windows my wireless is a AR5 and not an ar9. Not sure which to believe.
I setup the connection arch-laptop, restarting the computer and Wired Connection disappeared.
On my tv I have internet protocol setup as manual.
IP Address like networkmanager is 10.42.43.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 1.1.1.1
Setup IP setup to manual forced dns to that also
    DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
My isp (cisco brand) modem ip address is 192.168.0.1 and my router is 192.168.1.1. I am not very educated on the dns gateway subnet thing -- note I am calling it a thing. If you can help me out that would be great. Also, I am not completely sure if what I want is called an ethernet bridge. I am pretty sure my dns ip is wrong. I set gateway 1.1.1.1 because the tv says 0.0.0.0 is invalid. I have read the wiki and some forum posts but they are commandline solutions and I prefer graphical.
Marking as solved since tv does not even support this type of setup.

The EU40EH5300K TV is a model from 2012, and is compatible with the STC-2000 and STC-3000 model cameras. These are a little hard to find as Samsung has discontinued production of them.
Unfortunately the STC-4000 and STC-5000 (2014 and 2015 cameras) are NOT compatible with this TV.

  • Apple tv ethernet connection not working

Connected my new Apple TV to the ethernet cable and it doesn´t show the network available to connect to internet.
Am I missing some step ?
    Thanks

    ISSUE
After the latest software update, my Apple TV2 has stopped recognizing any form of network connectivity and appears to believe that it's connected to the network via an ethernet connection, whether or not there is one actually plugged into the back of the device.
    BACKGROUND
I echo many of the previous posts... I've had Apple TV2 for over a year with no difficulties. Ethernet and wireless connections have always worked. For the last 6 months the Apple TV2 has been hardwired via my ethernet connection with stellar results. However, after the recent software upgrade, I've lost all network connectivity. Apple TV2 will no longer recognize the same ethernet connection it's always been attached to.  This is the same connection that has always allowed me to watch iTune movies, Netflix and download/install all previous software updates. Worse yet, when the ethernet connection is unplugged from the back of the device, Apple TV2 believes it is still connected to the ethernet cord, as if it's stuck, and WiFi functionality does not kick in.
    TROUBLESHOOTING
This specific issue has nothing to do with the actual "network" so I am kindly asking people to stop recommending that we check our network/router settings and ethernet cords. Apple TV2 is designed to automatically activate its wireless function when an ethernet connection is not recognized. It's should be pretty obvious to anyone who is tech savvy that there is something wrong with the device and not the network, with respect to the specific aforementioned symptoms.
        STEPS
Nothing has changed on the network and I've tested the ethernet connection with both MacBook Pros... with success.
    Restarted device multiple times
Attempted to restore device but no network connectivity makes this impossible
Connected device to iMac via micro USB cord and restored from scratch
Made the assumption the wireless antenna could not recognize network due to location, surroundings (i.e. tv stand, Directv receiver, SP3), etc. Moved Apple TV2 to another location and connected to different TV. Wireless functionality still does not activate when ethernet cable not plugged in.
All other common sense troubleshooting steps have been taken per Apple's troubleshooting recommendations and other blog site recommendations
I'm sure the latest software update worked for the majority of all Apple TV2 owners. Anything could have gone arwy during the update that could have caused this specific issue to present itself.  Either way, there are enough folks with the same complaint to warrant a deeper dive of the issue.  My next step will be to jailbreak the device since I have nothing to lose at this stage... it's a simple paperweight until I find a solution.

  • High CPU load kills ethernet connection

Short spikes in CPU load (MenuMeters installed) are constantly killing my internet connection.
I use an ethernet connection with a cable modem (Motorola SB 4200 E) and have a MB 2 CD, 2 GB of RAM and OS X 10.4.9.
After the ethernet connection is killed, only a complete re-start can fix the problem (and today alone I had to do something like 15 of them already).
These sudden spikes in CPU load can be caused by all different kinds of activity, e.g.
1.) playing back video files which my machine has problems dealing with (like .mkv files),
2.) playing back 'regular' .avi files,
3.) browsing the net (Camino, Safari, Opera, Firefox) and displaying flash content (just watching something on youtube creates a CPU load which kills the connection regularly),
4.) any kind of activity which asks a high CPU load in general.
It seems that the problem is caused by the CPU load in general, not by any particular application which causes the high workload.
    What I have tried:
    1.) PRAM reset
2.) Apple Hardware Test (extended, loop)
    3.) de-installed Flash player
4.) created a new user (admin)
5.) made a clean 10.4.11 install on an external USB drive and booted from there
6.) used Airport instead of the ethernet/cable modem
7.) checked system temperatures (which are ok)
    8.) changed/exchanged/checked the RAM
9.) made enough free disk space on my HD (15 GB)
    10.) repaired disk permissions
    but to no avail.
Any help would be very much appreciated (since I'm ready to get a MS machine and wave my Mac good bye).
    Kind regards
    FC

  • How do I use my iBook with a hotel's ethernet connection?

When a hotel just has an ethernet connection, I can never come up with the right configuration to access it. Does anyone have the procedure?

    Plug in the ethernet.
    (Turn on/log in your iBook)
    Open browser
    Go to a website.
    It should now load.
If for some reason the obvious is not working, do this.
    Open System preferences.
    Click Network
Now at the top pull down the menu and select network status.
There should now be a line that says ethernet.
In that line it should say "connected, your IP address is x." If it does not say that it is connected, what does the error say?
