Ethernet Crashed
Hello,
As of this weekend I have had a bit of trouble with my ethernet.
My ethernet settings are set to:
IPv4 DHCP
IPv6 Set to Auto
PPPoE is off
Appletalk is off
No Porxies
Athernet is set to Auto, and I have an ID
Problem began on boot up, where before the loading screen bar would fill itself, this time it stopped after reaching Loading Network Instillation.
When I inspected Network Settings, there was nothing in the box. No display for the ethernet.
Somehow if I really goof around with the settings, I can have the built in ethernet appear, but it states that the cable is unplugged (which is incorrect). However, if I do get it to reappear, then resart, it is not shown when I go back to Network Settings.
I did a full hardware test via CD boot
and I inspected the ethernet cable, and it appears fine.
I have browsed the forums and have not noticed a similar problem such as this.
Thank you for your time and efforts.
Mac OS X (10.3.9)
If the MacBookPro is fairly new, I would take it to the Apple Store.

Drobopro ethernet crashes finder
drobopro ethernet crashes finder . finder freezes up and i have to restart .. drobopro doesnt stay online with ethernet for long
Hi again,
1) I've done this 2 or maybe three times
2) I don't want to think about this "possibility"
3) I think my problem is due to one of two things: either there is a bug in the system, or there is a problem with my Ethernet card.
First thing in the morning I'll go to an authorized Apple store!
If you're still here, do you think it's possible to damage the Ethernet card alone? Is the Ethernet card a hardware thing one can replace? If you're not here, I'll hopefully get my answers in the morning (and a new functional system/computer). Thanks a lot for your advices!

Ethernet crashes my Tiger?
Hi all,
I just bought Tiger 10.4.6 and have spent 48 hours trying to install it. After about 25 crashes I now have the OS properly installed, but as soon as I try to use the Ethernet (internet, printer...) it freezes. I have tried to use the Update function to download and install the latest security update, but without any luck (since my cable modem is connected via ethernet). The OS crashes as soon as I touch any ethernet function.
Now, I remember about 2 years ago there was a similar problem after a security update, Ethernet crashed the whole system and made the computer unusable. Is it a similar bug, or am I the only one with this problem? I have a PowerBook G4 (1,25 GHz), 2 GB RAM. I formatted the disc before I installed the OS 10.4.6 so there is nothing else installed but the OS.
Glad for any assistance!

Migration Assistant over ethernet crashes with wifi turned off
I am attempting to migrate data from one macbook (early 2008, 10.7.5) to a newer macbook (mid 20180, 10.9). Both systems are fully up to date. The connection I am trying to use is a gigabit ethernet connection and both systems are connected to the same gigabit ethernet hub and they booth have an IP address. Before I start Migration Assistant on both systems, I turn off wifi. I then start Migration Assistant on the newer macbook and get it to the point where it is looking for sources. I then start the Migration Assistant on the older macbook and set it to transfer data to another mac. At the newer macbook I can now see the older macbook and select it. I then see a code on the newer macbook and then on the older macbook. I select continue on the older macbook and continue on the newer macbook. At this point, I am assuming that the newer macbook is attempting to get a listing of users and settings to update. This is when the Migration Assistant on the newer macbook exits. The screen goes gray and then I see the login screen. It doesn't matter the order that I start Migration Assistant on the two macbooks, it always dies in the same way. The only way to get Migration Assistant to get to the point of selecting users and settings is to let the wifi connection stay on on the newer macbook. Unfortunately, I don't think that the newer macbook is using the gigabit connection to get the data. The estimated completion times goes all over the place, 2 hours, then 6 hours, then 24 hours, now 26 hours, after 2 and a half hours wall clock time. I also don't see any lights at the gigabit ethernet connection. I guess my question is two-fold:
1. Why is the Migration Assistant crashing? I can't find a log file conspicuously named that contains Migration Assistant log settings. By the way, I feel that Migration Assistant should have an option similar to the Installer that allows the user to see the log file messages while it is running.
2. How can I force Migration Assistant to use the gigabit ethernet connection? What I have seen that I didn't mention is that Migration Assistant would always complete after many hours. I do have confidence that it would copy files over no matter how slow it was going. The fact that I could get Migration Assistant to crash just by turning off wifi before starting it is a little troubling but not critical at this point. What I was more concerned with was how to make it use gigabit off a switch rather than directly connect it (question 2) and how to ensure it was using gigabit ethernet by examining a log file (question 1). Since I already had gigabit connected, I was never asked to connect them together as you mention.

WIred ethernet crashes but wireless continues OK
I have a Airport extreme that supports both a wireless network and also acts as a router for the wired ethernet in my home. Computers on the wired side often experience extreme slowdown or no internet service at all while the wireless side continues without problems. Set up is. Cable modem to Airport; airport to hub with several computers and a printer on the hub. All use DCHP settings. Does the hub model or brand matter? do the computers need to change to manual from DCHP? is the airport defective?
Usual way to resolve the issue is to hard reset the airport (and sometimes the cable modem- though I am not sure just airport reset would not work)Howard, Welcome to the discussion area!
Does the hub model or brand matter?
It shouldn't.
do the computers need to change to manual from DCHP?
DHCP is easiest to maintain but manual should work without any problems.
is the airport defective?
Possible but not likely.
The most likely cause of your problem is a defective or intermittent Ethernet cable.
If all of your wired clients experience the problem at the same time, the possibilities would seem to be:
Defective Ethernet cable from AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to hub.
Defective Ethernet hub.
Defective LAN port on AEBS.
I think the 3rd item very unlikely. -
HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Text Gray not Black - HP Utility Crashes - Hundreds of Ethernet Messages
I bought an HP OJP 8600 for home use, hoping for quality and speed, and little intervention on my part. Using the printer from both an HP Windows 7 Laptop, and a MacBook Pro OS X 9.5, but mostly the MacBook Pro.
I recently started working ten hours a day and weekends at home. I am printing a lot of letters for business and for work.
I've got a bit of color blindness toward pastel and light colors, so I always have my artist daughter double check my work when necessary.
Both of us were looking at a letter I received from a state agency and then looking at my reply letter from the 8600. The letter from the agency had dark black, clear text. By comparison my letter looked to have "thinner" text (even using the same font the agency selected) and the text in my letter is noticably gray by comparison. I get the same results on both computers.
I double checked all the settings, made sure the print quality is "best" and I even use 98 brightness paper.
The "HP Utility" made by HP for the MacBook Pro is almost useless. The HP Utility fills up my folders with CRASH reports, is always running, and the Activity Monitor always shows the "HP Utility" using some unexpected extra amount of CPU.
With the poor wireless radio on the OJP 8600 I finally shut it off, and connected the printer by ethernet to the router. But while looking for computer performance problems I used a packet sniffer on the connection. I found about 40 HP OJP 8600 messages a SECOND sending the same routine information over and over and over.
My warrenty is up in December. Do I let it expire and junk the printer? Or is there a fix for some of these problems?
I appreciate any suggestions, but please, tell me it is a suggestion if it is. If you haven't tried it and found it to work please don't tell me "here is a solution."Hello @UThrewError ,
I have read your post as well as your post and thread history. I do have a suggestion for you, in regards to your "quality" issues with your print outs. I would suggest to you, to try the steps listed in this certain guide below to see if the steps help with the quality.
Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer
If they do not help at all, and to add to the history of issues you've experienced, I would next suggest calling HP technical support directly. My reason behind that would be, if the printer is coming up to the warranty end period, and you have had ongoing unresolved problems with the printer, and presently print quality troubles, it's best to have a technician hear about it. If they see fit an in-warranty replacement, they could make that happen with you before the warranty expires. I will leave their contact info below if you decide to call HP.

Kernel oops, then panic, then catastrophic crash when using ethernet
I'm running arch on my laptop, using netcfg to manage networks. I can connect with no problems using wireless, to any kind of wireless network, which is what I've been doing most of the time, as my house until recently only had wireless in the first place.
A few months ago I was at a friend's house, and we hooked up my computer to their wired internet. Within about a minute or two, while I was still in tty1, the screen flickered briefly, dumped out a bunch of messages (three or so, I didn't get a chance to look clearly) that said "uuuhhhh... Dazed and trying to continue." Then it did a panic, and dumped the panic message. About a second after that, the screen became frenetic and staticy and it starting blurring and stretching the display (hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about because i can't really describe it any better). Never before have I had THAT part happen on a kernel panic.
I just ignored it because wireless works fine, so I figured maybe something was odd about their network. That was a few months ago.
Recently I installed wired connections in my own house and connected it... Same thing. Every time. It could take thirty seconds to happen, it could wait about twenty minutes... But eventually, the computer WILL go down.
I thought it might have something to do with hardware interrupts, because when I logged dmesg and tried to make it happen again it kept mentioning irqs and PS1 (my mouse i think). But I don't know. It doesn't mention a panic in the log, nor an oops... Nothing. The log just ends.
Here is a link to the file I dumped it into: http://pastebin.com/kXp3P3GG
Anything else I should check?

Edit: There's a good chance this belongs in hardware.
Last edited by scott_fakename (2013-04-01 04:56:12)So I tried upgrading my BIOS with a CD i got from the toshiba website. I tried numerous different kernel options... Turning off ACPI in various ways (pci=noacpi, acpi=noirq...) prevent it from crashing but disable network access.
I did notice a more clear look at the oops. It said that it was due to "unknown reason 3d." Does that mean anything? And it said "do you have a strange power management setup?" or something very like that. I do have laptop-mode-utils installed, but I don't see any mention of any problem like this around the documentation of laptopmodeutils. Is that a possibility?
Does it make sense to install something like irqbalance, or isapnp? Does that have any chance of changing anything?
Also, I don't know if it's normal but when I boot the usual way, and then cat /proc/interrupts, I get:

Then if I plug in the ethernet (still booted the normal way) it adds a line directly below radeon (video card) that says 41 blah blah PCI-MSI=edge eth0 where blah blah are numbers. These are the only two devices like that, but I don't know if that's normal.
I'm grateful for the help.

Hi,
I use the last version of both iTunes (11.1.5 64 bits, last version detected) and Windows 8.1 on an Asus G750J (64 bits) and for several weeks now iTunes crashes EACH TIME I connect or disconnect ANY USB device (not only my iPhone, but my external hard disk or my... mouse) and even my Ethernet port...
None of my other softawares are impacted
Thanks for your help
SergeReinstalling the 64 bit version in the x36 programm folder seems to solve the problem but it's not satisfactory. I'd prefer to keep the advantage of beeing under the 64 bits version.

Lost Ethernet Driver after semi-crash
MS-6278, P4 2.4
XP, sp1.
Well, I ignorantly turned on "High Performance Defaults" in the Bios ver. 1.3. System got freaky, barely able to get back into Setup to change to Normal Settings, but did do so. Then noticed Ethernet Driver in Control Panel was flagged: driver missing. A while later error message said trouble with Modem interface controller. Questions:
1.Do you think the crash caused these things?
2.Do I have to reload the whole Intel driver-set?
3.How can I list my computer system at the bottom of this page so I don't have to keep typing it in every time I post?
Thanks so much,
JimminyI may have had a similiar event I had loaded up the high performance defaults to see if it improved the game performance of Metal Gear Solid 2.I had no problems except trying to escape from the game ,but I mostly blame this on the fact that the PC release of this game is just a crappy emulator version of xbox.Still nonetheless it kindve partially locked up and I had to hit ctrl-alt-del to shut down the game properly.I restarted and reset the bios to the regular bios defaults (slow, private etc.) then put the comp into standby. When I came back my home network was down so I started messing around with the various connections and firewall which didnt help.I then decided to start top to bottom, so I started with the bios and low and behold for some reason under peripherals the onboard lan of my 865 Neo 2 LS had been disabled so I enabled it and this solved the problem.I know this problem isnt the same but it sounds to similiar so I offer up my own experience so good luck :D

The text in the blue crash screen is "Unexpected Keernel Mode Trap".
But it doesn't crash when I create the external Virtual Network Switch on 802.11n.
Why? How to fix this?Hi,
Sorry for my late reply.
For the issue, please upload the dump files so that we can help you analyze them.

Crio Ethernet Port 'Crashes', Error 42
The problem relates to this post and might even be the same:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&thread.id=345733
It took me a while to figure out what was going on. Even had a network analyzer to monitor the network traffic. I now am able to reproduce this problem in a very simple way. I have a 'TCP open connection.vi' immediately followed by a 'TCP close connection.vi'. There are some additional shared variables to monitor the status of the TCP open and close vi's. I run this program in an 100 ms timed loop.
I run the program on the controller. I unplug the network cable, wait 5 seconds, replug the cable and voila. It is not possible to ping the controller or to connect to it through the project explorer. However the shared variables are still alive and through an application that is running on my pc I can see that the 'TCP open connection.vi' generates an error 42. In fact any TCP vi generates this error.
The Compact rio is not able to recover from this problem. The only way I know is to reboot the crio in the project explorer or MAX or do it manually. Since we have 15 Crio's that are supposed to run 24/7 and who's only way of data-streaming is through TCP this is a big problem.
Is there any other way to recover from this problem? Is it possible the check the 'readynes' of the ethernet hardware to prevent something like this?
Controller: 9014
Network: use DHCP
halt system if TCP/IP fails = false.

Controller Test V03.vi 33 KB
controllervi.jpg 203 KBOk I got a bit further , although the problem is not solved. I run the test5 vi (see attachment) and unplug the cable wait 10 secs or so and reconnect the cable. This is how I get it in error-mode. If I try to ping it from DOS, I get a positive reply, so that works. If I try to reconnect from the project window, I get an error. If I watch the shared variables I first see an error 56, wich after 10 seconds or so changes in the error 42. The shared variables are still approachable.
If however, and now it gets intersting, I unplug it in the designated 5000 ms time-frame (see attachment) and then later reconnect the cable, I can reconnect with the vi through the project explorer. This may take a few tries, but eventually I can reconnect. Something seems to go wrong when you unplug the cable while it busy with a tcp/ip function.
This is kinda interesting. Still have to figure out how to use this information to design an application that ALWAYS works.

9926 - Lenovo Laptop Crashes when doing I/O to Ethernet
I just moved a lenovo laptop to version 10. It crashes when attempting I/O to the eithernet.
Intuition says that the problem relates to the intel 82579LM driver but i dont know for sure. The processor was most reliable prior to putting v10 on it just this morning.
Please help.

"MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." MeHi,
Please upload the related dump files under C:\Windows\Minidump to OneDrive, we should make a further analysis on this issue to check whether this crash is caused by the intel 82579LM driver.
If the driver is indeed the cause of the issue, then please try reinstalling using previous drivers as a test. I have checked the driver on the net, seems there's no appropriate driver at this moment to fix the compatibility issue. It's recommended to report
a feedback on both Microsoft side and manufacture side.

Plug off the ethernet cable, ox y yosemite crashes, laptop shuts down
Hi, I Just had recently another problem :
I use the etherent cable for faster internet speed, but if I unplug it, or it comes off, my entire computer shuts down.
Is PRAM the answer, I seemed to read that everywhere with Yosemite bugs,
thanks for anyones input! The "do something with the battery" you're referring to would be to unplug it for a minute. You can go to ifixit.com and get detailed instructions on how to do it for your model. The other thing I'd suggest, though I'm not sure it'll work with your machine in this condition, is to reset the SMC. You can try.

If your MPB is a 2009 or later, follow the "for a battery you should not remove" instructions. -
