Ethernet driver missing on s5-100z Pavilion Slimline with Win7 Ultimate

Hi all, I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 on my daughters computer and all works fine except that when I try to connect to the router is says the Ethernet driver is missing. When I check the Device Manager it shoes the Ethernet Controller driver is missing. I have tried everyway I know to find the driver, but, so far nothing.I have worked with many computers over the years and have been a Tech Beta Tester with MS for over 15 years and I have never ever encountered this kind of issue before. I have the same Windows OS installed on my HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1205z and did not have the problem. I have changed out the ethernet cables 4 times thinking it might be the cable, but, so far nothing resolves the issue. I am in hopes that someone here can help me find the driver for the s5-1000z so that we can get my daughter's computer connected to the router. Any suggestion or assistance will be very greatly appreciated.  She needs the computer up and working with the Internet before schools starts so she can do her online courses. Thank you. :-)

Hi: The motherboard specs for that model indicates that it has the onboard Realtek Technology: RTL8105E-VC ethernet chip. The second driver on the list at the link below should work. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

I am trying to install a hp officejet 4215 all in one on a HP  Pavilion slimline with Vista, I log in under myself and  I am an administrator, When I run the cd to install it shows that I need to be logged in as administrator, any help out there ?

I am not sure why the HP software needs to recognize your airport. That's a function of the OS. Can you be more specific about the problem you are having? Do you have some screen shots? Is the Macbook connected to the router?
If the HP printer can't recognized the router, that's a different story. You'll need to plug the Macbook into the printer (by cable) to config it (that's typical). You may need to assigne the printer its own static IP address (which I would advise doing anyway). That way you can always find it and it will make setting up network printers on other computers a bit easier.

  • Boot Camp won't make a Windows XP driver disc, OS X disc only works with Win7

First time Mac user. Just got a new Macbook Pro.
I have successfully installed Windows XP on the Mac using Boot Camp. But I need the driver disc. The right mouse button doesn't even work and Windows is impossible to navigate without that. The disc eject button does not work, one has to eject a disc using laborious menus. Very frustrating.
When I run Boot Camp it only has the option to make a Windows 7 driver disc. I don't see any way to make a driver disc for Windows XP.
Everywhere I have searched on the Net the information says to put the OS X Leopard disc in the drive when WinXP is running and it will automatically install drivers. When I try that a window comes up saying it only works with Windows 7.
This web site shows screen shots of a Beta version of Boot Camp that makes Windows XP drivers discs.

How can I make a Windows XP driver disc?
I really hope Apple didn't discontinue/eliminate the option to make a Windows XP driver disc altogether, forcing everyone to use Windows 7 only...
Is there a way to install an older version of Boot Camp over the latest version I'm running? Where would I find it?

Thank you for your time in helping me on this.

The retail OS X 10.6.3 DVDs unlike your OEM DVD does have a complete set of drivers for $29 w/o having to deal with questionable bitorrent.
Microsoft EOL'd XP and Vista SP1.
Your Mac has Intel Thunderbolt and you don't see Apple doing backward compatibility. You can't run 10.5 on new Mac. So yes it comes with those limitations, but XP is also 20x more vulnerable, IE9 is more secure and XP has not kept up with the latest hardware, besides which I don't see a place or need for a 32-bit OS, any platform today.

  • Pavilion Slimline DVD drives and eject wire...

I tried to replace the DVD drive on my Pavilion Slimline with an HP dvd1270i DVD drive. Had no problems installing it until I tried to plug the eject wire to a plug on the new DVD drive. Problem is, there's no plug on this drive to attach the eject wire to. The DVD drive that originally came with the Slimline does have this plug. Can someone recommend a DVD drive for the Slimline that does have a plug for the eject wire? Or is there a way to transfer the plug from the old drive to the new drive? Thanks in advance...

I have similar problem on my micro PC case from HP
CD rom tray has not mechanical device for ejecting media but electrical switch instead.
There is no chance to reach eject button on DVD ROM, because it's hidden under doors on the case.
And that {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}non standard HP connector for opening CD used on case is not compatible with any DVD ROM I can find in my local store including HP products.

Hi!  I am having problems with my HP desktop computer and wonder if  someone can help me solve this issue.
My CD/DVD drive is no longer working on my HP Pavilion Slimline s3720y desktop. When I tried to test my CD/DVD drive  to ensure it it was working properly , When I clicked to open Hardware Diagnostic Tools and it said "The software program is not found".  The CD/DVD drive was working but will not respond or recognize that a disk is in the drive.  It states insert disk in drive.  Where are my diagnostic tools that are missing?

    Hi,
Your Seagate update CD is to update the firmware for Seagate hard drives.
Did you try the tips in the post that I referenced above?
Error 31 indicates that the driver is not installing correctly.
Go to Device Manager, locate the CD/DVD drive, open up the CD/DVD drive, double click, click on the Driver tab, then uninstall the driver. Now reboot your PC and Windows will re-install the driver.

  • Pavilion Slimline s3760a: Cloning the Hard drive to replace with larger drive

    Product Name:Pavilion Slimline s3760a
    OS: Vista
    Hi All,
I'm Turina, just joined the forum think I'm posting in the right place but let me know if I'm not please.
So we've had our computer for several years, the hard drive is in the red so am swapping it out before it dies of old age, for a WD 1TB Hard drive.
I am going to use a Sata-usb adapter and the Acronis True Image WD Edition Software to clone the installed hard drive.
It is only used at home, and we are purchasing another one for gaming, so this is just the usual photos, music, documents computer, some website/ftp type stuff, but nothing too consuming.
I don't think I have the original cd that came with the computer, so I don't have a cd of the OS.
Have already backed up the computer several times so should I return to factory setting prior to changing the hard drive?  No important stuff on there that I can't retrieve.
    Questions are:
The current drive is partitioned, the C: and the D: which is the Factory Image.  I want to know if I can clone the factory image separately to the C drive onto different drives.  ie the factory image onto one drive and the rest onto another drive.  I actually am not sure what a factory image is but after reading about it I asume it is the information used to restore your computer back to factory settings??
If I can't clone separately, when I clone the drive will the computer then be able to recognise the extra 1TB or will it still just recognise the current drives memory of 320GB.  I know you can enlarge partitions etc. no idea how or even if I need to do this??
And would a separate SSD or even hard drive for the OS be over kill?  I don't actually think I can put the os on a separate drive as I don't have the cd, and don't know if I can do it with the cloning software.  But thought I would ask anyway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time

Your correct, the D is a protected image used to create a factory Recovery. It's less than 15GB.
A prepped/formatted 1TB drive creates about 931GB of useable space.
The clone process will create about 916GB for C. The remaining will be the D.
    Hope that helps.

  • LAN connection not working/Ethernet controller driver missing

I got a new hard drive and installed a clean copy of windows 7 on it. After dealing with a few problems I finally had it up and running. I transferred via usb and installed drivers from http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-500-Desktop-PC-series/7779690/model/8154137#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1. Every thing is working except for my LAN connection.  I can connect to wifi however. In device manager I have a ! next to ethernet controller.  Had ! on a bunch more before installing other drivers.  In network adapter settings there is no listed Local Area Connection.  What do I need to get my Lan connection working again?

Hi: The support page for your model indicates you need this ethernet driver... This package provides the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Driver for supported models running a supported operating system. File name: sp71102.exe You have to manually install this driver. Run the file and then go to the device manager. Click on the ethernet controller needing drivers. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder should be located in C:\SWSetup\sp71102. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HDD Failure, PC Won't Boot

My HP Pavilion Slimline S5's internal HDD failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty was long gone.
The startup screen showed this message:
1720-SMART Hard Drive  detects imminent failure
    Failing Drive: SATA0
    Failing Attributes: # 05
I have several questions regarding this issue:
Is it caused solely by HDD failure? I want to replace it myself, but I'm not really sure if there are any other parts to be replaced. Or will it be better to bring it to computer shop to have it checked thoroughly?
Can I replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5" (7200rpm, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think current HDD is Hitachi.
Do I still need to transfer Windows OEM after the HDD is replaced?
    Thanks in advance.

While not entirely sure what that error code means but I think it just means that the OS is not installed and the booting sequence has failed.  In my posting about the cloning process, nowhere did we discuss being able to boot the PC to the new drive before attempting the clone, so that process is next or just use the Recovery set on the new drive.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline Windows 7 64-bit: "No speakers or headphones are plugged in" error message

I have an HP pavilion slimline, model s5120y, with Windows 7 (64-bit).
I just got my power supply replaced and when I brought it home and plugged everything in, I couldn't get any sound. It told me no audio devices were plugged in, but my monitor with speakers was plugged into the audio jack in the back, the green one (it's an onboard sound card and NOT HDMI). I also tried my headphones and same thing, so I know it's not the monitor.
So then I tried the jack in the front and it worked, although the sound was really low, even with the volume turned all the way up. But, then like an hour later it went off again giving me the same message that no devices are plugged in. I tried the back jack again and then it worked again for a short amount of time. It keeps going in and out and switching to whether the back or front jacks will work, or nothing at all telling me nothing is plugged in.
Another thing is that my web cam has a mic, which is plugged in using USB, and the mic on the cam seems to record fine, and I assume it needs the sound card to do that. So, i'm guessing this is some sort of software problem because if the sound card was **bleep**ed up then the mic wouldn't be able to record, right? Well, the program I was using was showing that it was recording and the levels went up as I talked louder, so I assume it was picking everything up properly.
The audio worked fine before I brought it in for repair but I can't figure out what could have happened to break it when all he did was plug in a new power supply.
I went to the device manager and it says everything is working properly and all drivers are up to date. I also uninstalled then re-installed, disabled then re-enabled. I even went to the manufacturer's page and installed the original driver for RealTek. I also went into BIOS to make sure onboard audio was enabled. Every troubleshooting option I have on my computer says everything is working fine, but that there are no speakers plugged in even when they are.
Also I should mention, when the sound does come back on, it's pretty low and sometimes muffled, and sometimes the monitor speakers will make a dim clicking kind of sound, but not all the time. One person told me it was a known issue with the latest windows update, but I haven't done an update since I got the computer back and I couldn't find any info on that anywhere on the internet.
Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions!

  • HP Pavilion Slimline s3707c PC will not boot up all the way

HP Pavilion Slimline s3707c PC will not boot up all the way; gives the following message:
    Entering Setup

    <Esc=Boot Menu>                 <F9=Diagnostics>
Tried to install recovery disc; did not respond.
    [Personal Information Removed]

    Hi wjackson95,
When you get to the screen mentioned below, can you press the F11 key to enter the Recovery system that is on the hard drive? Alternatively, if you can press F10, you can go into the BIOS and change your boot order to put your disc drive before the hard drive so that the PC boots to your Recovery discs. NOTE: You may have to press F10 or F11 multiple times to get it at the right time.
You might consider opening your PC to see if it has dust buildup. If your PC has overheated, it can cause it to not boot. It can also cause heat damage to the interal parts.

  • Equium A100-147 - Where to find LAN ethernet driver

    Hello All,
I am having problems to find the dirver for my ethernet controler...
I went to toshiba website and on the LAN driver is not completed, it only comes with any application to unistall, doesnt have to install, problably missing....
I could find on the web...
I manage to install the wirelles, so i can use the net through that.... but i want to install the LAN as well...
Does anyone knows where I can find the driver (LAN ethernet) Equium A100-147????*
    thank you very much...

    Hello
Ive checked Toshiba page and your notebook is supported for several operating system. Which one do you want to use?
Anyway, the driver is completed but you don't know how to install it. It is typical for LAN driver that there is no setu.exe file. Also do follow:
Download the right driver and expand it on the desktop
enter the device manager and open Ethernet properties
choose option to install driver and browse into downloaded folder
    Thats it!

  • Moving to an external Ethernet Drive - Libraries and Photos are a mess - Cant Find Images

I am in the process of wanrting to consolidate my LR3 files to an 2TB external ethernet drive (connected via airport extreme).  First, are there any issue with using the networked drive.  I've heard that there may be.
Second, my libraries and photos are all over the place.  I cant seem to find the proper catalgues and sometimes files go missing or offline.  So, duringn this move to the new 2TB drive, I want to use this opportunity to find and move all the LR3 "stuff" i can and make the workflow better organized.
How can I simply do that???
    Thanks!

First, let me suggest that there are two issues here ... Storage (exactly where your photos and catalog file are located) and organization (how do you find/search for the photo(s) of interest. These are different issues.
    First ... storage:
You can move your photos and catalog file anywhere to meet your storage needs. You move the catalog file simply by moving it in Windows or Mac Finder to the internal HD (or any other non-network drive). Recommended: put the catalog file on your fastest hard disk. Recommended: move the previews (that are located in subfolders where the catalog is) along with the catalog file. Once moved, you open it by double-clicking on it.
You can move your photos anywhere you want them to be, including a network drive. Although I recommend you move them in Lightroom so as to not break the links, you can also move the folders outside of Lightroom and then reconnect (in the folder panel, right-click on a folder and select "Update Folder Location").
Now, you have your files whereever you want them to be. They are stored properly. It makes sense to consolidate your photos on a single drive if possible, and it makes sense to set things up for ease of backup (i.e. all photos in subfolders under a single parent folder) but other storage schemes are fine if they meet your needs.
    Next ... Organization
This is how you set things up so that you can find a specific photo(s) quickly. I strongly recommend that this be done in Lightroom, using keywords, metadata and collections. I strongly dis-recommend that you do this by moving this folder to that location or folder hierarchy to help you be able to find things. I strongly dis-recommend that you do this by renaming photos or folders. Leave them whereever they are (after you have met your storage needs above), and organize via keywords. Assign keywords and metadata religiously to your photos. Keywords give you much more organizational power than folders, because you can have many many keyworkds assigned to a photo, but a photo can be in only a single folder.
I strongly recommend consolidating things into a single catalog. This will enable you to search for any photo, because you have one catalog. If you have multiple catalogs, and catalog A is open, you cannot search for a photo in catalog B.
Once all of this is complete, your photos are where you want them (storage) on your networked drive, your catalog (singular, not plural) is on your fastest disk (storage) and your photos are completely well organized in Lightroom, enabling you to search for them quickly, using the Lightroom filter bar, the keyword panel, or smart collections.

  • Help with hme Ethernet Driver

Hello, I have the Solaris 7 source code (both for sparc and intel). My goal is to alter the hme ethernet driver to do something specific (why i ordered the source code). However, I'm running into a couple of problems. My first test was to just try and compile the source and insert the newly compiled driver to see if it will work (this is half the battle). I am wondering if I can do it with gcc, though. I don't have Sun's Forte cc compiler. Do you know if it's absolutely necessary to have cc to compile something like an ethernet driver for solaris? I have an Ultra-II sparcv9 (ultra 10 workstation) - which is what I am working with now. My first steps were as follows:
Got hme.c from the cd. Checked the header #includes in the file, and everything was fine.
    Compiled as follows:
    gcc -D_KERNEL -c hme.c
    ld -r hme.o -o hme
This worked ok, except for a couple of function re-definition warnings.
    Next thing I did was:
    $ ifconfig hme0 unplumb
    $ rem_drv hme
By default, the ultra 10 boots into 64-bit kernel mode, and i know the 64-bit kernel drivers are stored in /kernel/drv/sparcv9 and the 32-bit drivers are one dir up. So, I made a backup copy of /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme to /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme.BACKUP and then copied my fresh new binary into that directory:
    $ cp /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme.BACKUP
    $ cp /home/dford/hme /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme
    Next :
    $ add_drv hme
Here I get the message that the hme driver was loaded but failed to attach. I have seen this before when I did a loopback STREAMS driver, and the problem then was that the driver was compiled as a 32-bit driver, and I was in 64-bit mode. This was fixed by going to the boot prompt and typing:
    ok> boot /platform/sun4u/kernel/unix
This boots the OS in 32-bit mode, and that fixed the problem with my Loopback STREAMS driver. However, I tried this with the hme driver I just built and it did not work. I get the same 'failed to attach' error, even after I copy the hme to /kernel/drv (make a backup of original first, though).
Now, I notice that I am missing the character special file that is supposed to exist in the /devices/pseudo directory for the hme driver. I can make one with mknod, but isn't it suppose to do this automatically? Incidentally, my problems get worse: trying to restore the original hme binary and run add_drv produces the same problem (failed to attach). Now I can't restore the system to it's initial working state. The only thing I did was make a backup copy of the hme binary, and after trying a newly compiled hme binary, restore the original hme binary. Rebooting the system - complains that it can't "find" the hme module! After the system comes up, modinfo indeed shows that hme did not load properly.
    $ modload hme
-- reports that it can't find the hme module
    $ modload /kernel/drv/sparcv9/hme
--works ok, now modinfo shows hme is loaded ok.  however, add_drv hme still reports failed to attach.
I don't know how the system's module load path got messed up. As i understand it, this is stored in /etc/system file. I never touched this file.
If you have any experience / ideas with this sort of thing, please let me know your opinions.
    Thanks in advance,
    Davis

Probelm Solved! The problem has to do with the fact that the kernel looks for a device with the same name as its driver module. In this case the driver module is 'hme', but the device name that is programmed into the card's FCode PROM is called SUNW,hme. Therefore add_drv would always fail. Therefore, to successfully load it, you have to alias the FCode PROM name as follows:
    add_drv -m '* 0666 root root' -i 'SUNW,hme' hme
Hope this helps someone else in the future. This wasn't very clear, and took some digging to find out. In addition, the verbose option of add_drv should be changed to give more feedback, other than 'driver failed to attach'.
Incidentally, I found this info at:
    http://soldc.sun.com/developer/support/driver/wps/pci/html/Device_Prop.doc.html
One note - they use quotation marks in their example, but add_drv needs apostrophe...trivial, but nonetheless, thought I would point it out.
