Ethernet Hardwire connection not detected :(

Hey all
I was not sure where to post this but I believe it has to do with screwed up settings within my network preferences. For several month I was using a hardwired Ethernet connection to access the Internet and just recently my MacBook stopped recognizing there was a connection. I have tried several different cables to no avail and when a PC is plugged in, the connection is detected which is why I think it may be an issue with my settings. Any idea how to fix this or revert back to default settings?
Thank you so much

HI,
Your profile indicates you are running 10.4.7 but you posted in the Leopard forum. If indeed you are running 10.4.7, you need to update your system software.
Try repairing disk permissions. Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • INTERNET CONNECTION NOT DETECTED message with Crystal Reports 2011

    Hello:
We upgrade from SQL 3008 R2 to SQL 2012 SP1.   Had trouble with Crystal Reports not opening reports.  Information on the internet indicated that you had to reinstall Crystal Reports after upgrading SQL.  We did a repair of Crystal Reports 2011.  I have the box checked to check for updates when Crystal Reports starts.  I am now getting INTERNET CONNECTION NOT DETECTED and the application will not check for updates.  We have tried turning of the firewall and almost everything else we can think of.  I have access to the internet from that server and IE9 works just fine.  Can anyone help, please.
    Thank You,

  • Ethernet card  was not detecting...

I am using Dell Laptop, I have a inbuild NIC card. It is working fine in my Windows OS. But it was not detecting in OEL 5.5
I have a ADSL Modem and want to connect to Internet in OEL 5.5
Is it possible to use WiFi in OEL 5.5 ???
Anyway, I want to use Internet on my OEL 5.5 laptop

So, you are preferring Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop edition CD, can I go with this?
Are the things are same like the OEL? Most things, yes.
Becoz there is no root in Ubuntu directly and the command is also different $su -iThere is - simply the security model is a tad different as a desktop o/s does not have a sysadmin dude, whereas a sever o/s does have.
To access root on Ubuntu, simply use:
    sudo su - root
    Type your password when prompted.
Or install Open SSH Server and you can ssh (from other platforms too) into your desktop - including as root. E.g.
    sudo apt-get install openssh-server
What abt bash_profile?The same. Bash is bash is bash - irrespective of the distro.
If the things are same as in the OEL for Oracle 10g manual Database Installation, I can prefer that.Well, there's very little that is "special" with an Oracle s/w installation. It is a bunch of popup windows with a next and cancel button - all you need to do is read the text and change the defaults if needed. Anybody can install Oracle software. And how often do you install Oracle s/w? Definitely not every second day.
The important bit is not the installation itself - but how you administer the database.
Finally, wat abt Kernel Parameters, Will the parameters are same for all Distros?Mostly. Cannot speak for all distros, but the ones I've worked with use the sysctl command to set kernel parameters. As distros are based on a specific Open Source/GPL Linux kernel, those kernel parameters are the same. sysctl uses the config file +/etc/sysctl.conf+ - so that will also be the same across distros.
A distro does not mean something radically different. Underneath it all, it is the same source code. The differences come with what that kernel ships. What drivers are bundled? What Window manager? What versions used (stable, experimental, etc). What software packages are included.
If you are going to use Ubuntu, then I suggest installing XE. It is free. It is great for experimenting. You can create database instances. You can destroy them. You can use rman for backup and recovery. You can write your own database create scripts. You can sudo as the oracle o/s user, manage and monitor and kill processes. Etc.

  • Smart connect not detecting connections and phone not detecting headphones

    Hi
The smart connect app in my Z2 used to auto launch the profile i set when my Blue tooth ear phones connect and disconnect but not anymore. Force stopping the app does not work. It was working before the lasted android update.
Also my phone has stopped detecting my beats plug in headphones. Again it used to work prior to the software update last month.
Sony if you're reading this please issue a patch soon thanks!

  • Ethernet cable connection not working after upgrade

    Hello fellow Mac users,
I'll keep this short, after the upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard (10.5.8), when I try to connect to the internet via my ethernet connection, it doesn't work. It says, when I go to a web browser, "you aren't connected to the internet."
The strange thing is, when I have Airport on, it works just fine.
Any suggestions? I'm out of them.

There isn't a "built-in ethernet" portion on there, there is the "ethernet" part listed, and it's unconnected.
On my Mac OS X 10.5.8 system the Ethernet item is called "Built-in Ethernet", but if I try to create a new one, the choice is "Ethernet". I wouldn't think it would matter much just what it's called.
Understand, if I plug the ethernet cable in, I can not connect to the internet.
I do understand. I'm trying to help you with that problem.
When you select the "Ethernet" item, what's the setting for the "Configure" option?
In the System Preferences Network panel, try using the minus sign at the bottom to delete the "Ethernet" item, then use the plus sign to create a new "Ethernet" item. Set the "Configure" choice to "Using DHCP". Then try connecting your Ethernet cable.

  • Msi p4n sli - ethernet LAN connection not recognized after reinstall

So I am reinstalling windows xp home edition after replacing a hard drive with over 1,000 bad sectors... The ethernet LAN worked just fine before reinstalling.  I don't have the original driver cd, so using another computer, i downloaded the latest nforce4 chipset / ethernet / IDE / SATA drivers from the msi downloads site.  Installed them and everything worked fine except that the network connection never showed up.  It is not to be found in the device manager, and I don't see it when I view hidden devices.  The LAN chip is enabled in the BIOS and it tried to netboot the first time i booted with the new hard drive (hadn't put the cd in the drive  ).   When that didn't work, I tried downloading the latest chipset drivers from nvidia's site, and the same thing happened.  No local area connection!
Is there something I'm missing?  is there a utility I should be installing before I install the chipset drivers, etc?
I'm feeling stressed as I need to get this finished and returned to my client today but I've been dealing with this since yesterday to no avail
Any help is appreciated!  thank you!
    Jeff

A little embarrassed that I didn't figure it out earlier, but I tried several things, realized I had turned off the LAN chip in the BIOS and forgot to turn it back on after installing the second time.
once i enabled it, I had to manually pick drivers for the "Other PCI Bridge Device", and then for the the nforce network controller windows found after that.

check daemon.log to see if it's the daemon that's having issues. If not then it's the applet that configures the daemon, you can try starting the applet from terminal (nm-applet) to catch any possible output.

it's possible to set the video signal type on the loewe tv from vhs to camcorder, pal and ntsc, i've tried many configurations but it's just not picking up. any suggestions greatly received. thanks.

The mimo was a nice unit back in the day however the specs for the appletv are pretty clear, a hidef LCd or Plasma TV is required.
You might get lucky if you can get the ATV to the lowest Res possible, but it often involves lots of faffing. Basically to use the ATV in any real way you need a modern TV.

  • Windows Server 2008 x64 on Bootcamp: Ethernet drivers missing/not working

    Hello folks,
at the moment I try to get Windows Server 2008 x64 running on a new Mac Pro (Early 2009).
Installation of Windows Server 2008 x64 (Enterprise) worked out of the box. However, the ethernet drivers do not work. Ethernet cards are not detected and working due to missing drivers.
I have tried several different Intel driver packages. All of them report "No intel card found.". However, the vendor ID of the ethernet card clearly points to Intel.
I have not been able to find a driver yet, does anyone have an idea?
E.g. does someone know the exact chip name? The driver "name"? Anything else?
    Thank you in advance,
    Stefan

Erik - Thanks for the info!
I use 64-bit applications ... some notes on why:
enterprise supports up to 32GB of memory so the argument to use x64 for memory support is nullified.
... that's not correct.  x64 windows versions allow 64-bit addressing, so 64-bit applications created for x64 windows can take advantage of large amounts of cheap RAM as 32-bit applications cannot.  32-bit applications (they are all 32-bit applications in a 32-bit Windows version, even in Server 2008) are restricted to a limited process space of at most 2 GB.
It's true there is a LARGEADDRESSAWARE kludge to enable limited use of up to 3 GB by a user process (and there is an equivalent to this in Server 2008),  but this has gone nowhere because it is far more straightforward and more productive for an applications developer to simply go 64-bit rather than invest any engineering resources into a one-of-a-kind kludge for an era that is already past.
Yes, it is true that if you are stuck running 32-bit applications you have less incentive to use x64 windows.  But going true 64-bit is a huge advantage in reliability and performance.  Given the very low cost of RAM in modern times it makes sense to do so, even in notebook settings that are often limited to only 4 GB of RAM.  64-bit applications in Windows tend to have decisive performance and reliability advantages so whenever one competitor in a given segment makes the jump to 64-bit pretty much all of them must do so.

  • Initial TC Backup via Ethernet hardwire?

I have set up a wireless network with TC and my two imacs. Now, I would like to perform my initial backup to TC via ethernet hardwire vice wireless. What is the best/easiest way to go about this? Do I have to reconfigure my TC for an ethernet hardwire connection, backup and then reconfigure the TC for wireless -or- Can I simply just turn off the airport, connect the TC via ethernet and perform the backup?
    Thank You.

Yes, you can just turn off your AirPort and connect directly for the initial backup and switch over to wireless later. You cannot do this with an external USB HDD as the format saved via a NAS (Time Capsule) utilizes a sparsebundle vs. a folder format when connected directly.

Hi, I'm using a Mac Pro here. I am trying to connect it with my NAS hard drive. But i could not connect to it because i have an ethernet which connects to the intranet in my company and Air Port for the internet and it could not detect the the ip address after i input the correct address on "Connect to Server" window. Please help! Urgent! Thanks

I did not say it is not possible.
I said if your company networks are monopolizing both ports, you should talk to them about what options are available.
Maybe you can get the company Intranet over wireless if you change some configuration items such as Subnet Mask.
Maybe you can get on the Internet over Ethernet.
You really need to ask them, and do not let them blow you off because you have a Mac. If they balk, ask them how it would be done on a PC (becasue it will be the same on a Mac).

  • AirPort does not detect networks, unless another network connection is made

I've just done a clean install of OS 10.5 to see if this problem was software related, but it persists.
AirPort does not detect any network the computer is near (tested in various locations) normally, but when connecting to a network via Ethernet or to another Mac via Firewire to use network sharing, it can update and load web pages as normal. A strange quirk I've noticed though, whenever connecting with ethernet or firewire, AirPort will suddenly detect the network! It still can't quite connect to WiFi properly though. While still connected through firewire or ethernet, it will have no connectivity through a self-assigned IP. If it is disconnected from ethernet and firewire again, the wireless network will still show up in a re-scan for networks but it will fail to connect.
I've opened the computer up to ensure that the airport extreme card is seated properly as well, and that the antenna cable is secured properly.
Any ideas as to what the issue is? Should I look into replacing the AirPort Extreme card?

Got no answer on my original post, so I went ahead with ordering a replacement AirPort card on eBay (item #130487488014). Once installed, the iMac was able to detect and connect to networks normally... but was still unable to load any web pages. I tried on secured and unsecured networks as I did previously, and plugging directly into the router and into my Macbook Pro via firewire, with the same results as before. Safari loads pages when connected with an ethernet or firewire cable, but will not load pages on WiFi alone. I can attempt to access a router setup page via WiFi, and am prompted for a username/password, but the page itself never manages to load.
Any clues as to what may be going on here?!
