Ethernet internet connection

hello,
i am having difficulties connecting my powermac G5 to my existing wireless internet connection.
Scenario:
have extreme base station located in living room-connected to cable modem
have express station in home office to connect printer wirelessly and extend wireless range in house.
i attempted to connect my powermac G5 to the express station (home office) using an ethernet cable; however, it is not recognizing the express station. the thought was that the wire connection from the tower to the express station could wirelessly detect the extreme base station (connected to modem) located in the living room.
hope this all makes sense, thank you for your assistance.
grodr

that is correct, the mac tower does work if plugged directly into the extreme base station; however, if plugged into the express station, it is not recognizing the wireless connection.
i am however able to print wirelessly through the express station, saying that the express station is communicating with the extreme base station for wireless connectivity but not able to connect to the internet with an ethernet cable from the tower to the express.

  • Itunes 8.2 disables Ethernet/Internet connection

In an effort to upgrade to iTunes 8.2 this morning, I d/l and installed without difficulty. However, afterward, my computer did not recognize my Ethernet and I could not connect to the internet. I restored my computer to an earlier restore point, which restored my Ethernet/internet connection and deleted iTunes 8.2. After some manipulation of files, I now have a working version of iTunes 8.0.2. This is so frustrating, b/c it has taken me several hours of research to get everything functioning as it was before installing the iTunes upgrade.
What do I have to do to get Itunes 8.2 to function on my computer without it disabling my internet access? Apparently without the upgrade to 8.2, I cannot download the software upgrade for my iPhone 3g.
    Thanks for your help.

Its amazing, my previous post which was deleted by the powers that be, was solely related to the problem that alot of people are having. Namly Itunes disabling internet connection, because I was extreamly irrate about the whole this I accidentally put a swear word in the post.
How is it that the posts can be read to police against that but not to check on peoples problems and get them sorted.
Seriously apple get this problem sorted, I object to having to join this forum giving away my details so you can now email me, with alot of stuff that I don't even want. One thing I would like is for you to sort this problem out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope that isn't too many exclamation marks, hope it doesn't offend anyone.
I am running XP, when I download Itunes it gets rid of my internet connection, thus making Itunes more useless than it already is.
We are waiting for an answer. As I said in the previous post, DO YOUR JOBS AND GIVE US AN ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for the Apple discussions staff, if you are reading this, how about a bit of customer service, stop hiding behind your standard signature block and sign your emails with a name. The personal touch would make people less inclined to lose their tempers.

Can I connect my i pad to a hard wired ethernet internet connection?

No you can't. You can use Internet sharing with your computer making the computer the WiFi hotspot for the iPad, but you cannot connect the iPad to an Ethernet cable.

  • No Ethernet/Internet Connection on Parallels 7 Running Snow Leopard Server - Fix?

I have recently installed Parallels 7 on my 2013 iMac, and have both Snow Leopard Server and Windows 7 running great on the Parallels platform.
However, after installing some anti-virus software, "ClamXav" and "MacScan", I need to have the internet connected to my Paralells 7 so I can receive viral updates to both these programs. I am unable to get any ethernet/internet connection on my Paralells 7 running Snow Leopard Server.
I have tried to update the Paralells 7 Snow Leopard Server "network Info" (in SL systems preferences" ... as the same ethernet connection info that I have running my "network connection" on my main OS Mountain Lion, but still no ethernet connection in Paralells 7.
This is a screen grab of the locations where I believe I am able to update my "ethernet" info for Paralells 7 Snow Leopard:
Obviously, I've blurred out the current info in these two windows, for security purposes, but exactly what should be applied to these windows to get my "ethernet" connection in Paralells 7 up and running?
I would think entering the exact same "network info" as appears in my Mountain Lion "Systems Preferences - Network" window, would get me internet connected on Paralells 7 Snow Leopard? Evidently not ... what is needed for me to get this right?
Anyone have experience getting "ethernet/internet" connected on Snow Leopard Server, using Paralells 7?

Internet access through Ethernet in Snow Leopard Server installed into Parallels 8 on 2011 Mac Mini in Lion:"
I simply don't want to purchase and have to install Parallels 8 .... Parallels 7 should work fine on connecting to the Internet. Also, I was asking about the internet connection issue with the new 2013 iMac (running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 runiing Parallels 7), not a 2011 Mini Mac running Lion with Parallels 8.

  • Conflict with ethernet Internet connection

Since the last firmware update, a weird conflict has emerged. When a Thunderbolt cable is plugged in so that my MacBook Pro is connected to a display, the Internet connection goes down. I obtain the Internet through an ethernet cable connected to the mains electricity circuit.
When I start up in the morning, the Internet and the display work for about five minutes, and then the Internet fails. It comes back every time I pull the thunderbolt cable out. It disappears when I put it back in. Network Diagnostics says I get as far as the network, but not to the ISP.
This is very frustrating. Any ideas anyone? I have just updated to version 10.8.3, but this has not fixed the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by...
I obtain the Internet through an ethernet cable connected to the mains electricity circuit.
NORMALLY, you'd have the Ethernet cable plugged into a router... and you'd use the Display Ethernet under System Preferences>Network when your ATD was connected via Thunderbolt port:
    Like so...
Can you be a little clearer on where you have your ATD>Ethernet port connected?

  • WiFi to Ethernet Internet Connection Conundrum - Can you help?

I'm trying to figure out whether it's possible to use my G5's ethernet port as a hub to connect my 12" G4 to my Wifi network. The G5 is connected via Wifi as it's two floors away from the modem.
My G4's airport seems to have gone screwy, and in the meantime, until I fix it, I need to get internet connected without directly plugging in to the far away modem.
The Wifi network is not an "airport" network (the wireless modem is a Thomson Speed Touch 585 model). If it was, I'd use my Airport Express' ethernet port. I can't get internet via WDS for some reason.
    Any solutions?

With the Laptop set to DHCP and Ethernet dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, try Finder>Go menu> Connect to Server, then either browse or type in the IP of the G5.
Oh, almost forgot, if the G5's Airport has an IP with 2 in the third spot, like x.x.2.x, then it won't work.
We could try it Manually, though Apple says you can't, it sometimes works, then sometimes doesn't but works right after you try Manually then go back to DHCP!
If you give me the G5's Airport IP, I'll tell you what to try on the book.

  • Ethernet Internet Connection Share

OK, so my G5 tower has two Ethernet ports and I'm seeking to share my connection with my Powerbook in a daisy chain format. The trouble is that my Powerbook won't see the connection at all, and doesn't respond to an ethernet connection to the G5.
Both systems are running Leopard. The internet connection is a cable modem plugged into a router.
Has anyone found a way to troubleshoot this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Since you have a router, I suggest you connect your Macs to to of the LAN ports on the router. Your router is already configured, since it is working with one of the Macs, so the other Mac will also connect to the modem automatically.

  • Setting for the ethernet internet connection

I was using airport extreme. I don't think it is working and wanted to use the blue cable(ethernet, I think) How do I change the settings to connect to the internet directly?

You can connect your G4 to your AirPort Extreme using an Ethernet cable. One of the ports on the AirPort Extreme (or 4 if you are using one of the new 802.11n models) is a LAN (local area network) port. It has a symbol like this <---> next to it. Hook that up to the G4's Ethernet port.
Once that is done, you'll need to change your network setup. Go to System Preferences and select Network. Make sure Ethernet is turned on and set to configure using DHCP. Apply now, if you made any changes. You should get an IP address at that point, and be able to connect to the Internet.
    Good luck.

I have the same issue.  I spent 45 min on the phone with cable company internet tech, he could not figure it out.  He was able to see the TC receive an IP address, but I was not able to access the internet, even though I had a green light on TC and my wireless network was working.  I thinks it is an Apple issue. I removed my new TC, reconnected my Netgear wireless and eveything is back to normal.
I hope Apple or someone has an answer.
Same response to you.. test by ethernet if you haven't already.. and your arrangement is not too difficult.
I am guessing you got into the TC to set it up? How?
If the computer does not receive the correct gateway and dns address you will be able to get access to the TC but not the internet. Check the network settings. Compare what you get when connected via the Netgear which is working with the TC which is not working.
You might be able to get around it by manually setting IP address.
Please make sure you have cable modem plugged into WAN port.. Apple's label is not exactly clear.  but the WAN port is slightly separate from the others. And has a different symbol.
I also bet you have Lion on the computer.

  • Switching from Ethernet Internet Connection to Airport Internet Connection

When I try to switch from an Ethernet connection at work to an Airport connection at home or visa versa, 9 out of 10 times it locks up my computer and I have to restart. I did not have this problem before I upgraded to Leopard.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
in the design center select the database modul, right mouse click, select configure and set the location to your new location.
You could change the original location if you first unregister it in the control center. Then it es editable - it's the better way to make changes on the connection entries.

  • Dual G4 Won't start up with ethernet internet connection plugged in

    Hi,
My Dual 533mhz won't start up when the ethernet cord is pluged in. This recently started happening out of the blue (at least, I can't recall doing anything that might cause this). When I leave the ethernet cord in, the computer starts up with a network disk icon flashing and never goes away. When I don't have the ethernet cord plugged in, the computer still blinks with the network disk, but eventually changes to an OS 9 question mark folder, where it blinks some more and finally boots up normally.
The ethernet cord is one from a router.

Open the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences, select your hard disk as the startup disk, and quit System Preferences.

  • Problems sharing internet connection over airport

    Hi everyone-
I've researched the heck out of the forums and still cant figure out what's happening with my system. I've got a MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.2. In previous OS versions (10.4) when I was successfully sharing my ethernet internet connection, the airport icon in the status bar showed a vertical "up" arrow, indicating that my connection was being shared.
I'm trying to do the same thing in OS 10.5.2 but not succeeding in getting the same notification. I'm finding that when I access the "Sharing" folder under "System Preferences" and select "Share your internet connection from: ethernet" and "To computers using: Airport" that both settings grey out, the "Internet Sharing" button turns green and the status says "On", but no sharing occurs. I've checked using other wireless laptops and a wifi finder, but no signal from my MacBook is ever found.
I've deleted my preferences folder to start fresh, no help. I've tried sharing from different ethernet sources, no help. It just feels like the problem is in the OS somewhere, not with the internet connection.
Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

seems like i got the same issue as u and i just posted it:

  • Sharing display and internet connection between a 13inch Mac Book and G4

Does anyone know whether it is possible to connect a Mac Book and a G4 Powermac with an ethernet cable and then hook them both up to the same display and ethernet internet connection?

Usually you use a router to share an internet connection and to make a local network between the computers over Ethernet or WiFi. I think it is possible to directly connect the computers without a router, but you might have to use a cross-over cable, I'm not sure how to set up a direct connection. Using a wireless router with wired ports would allow you the flexibility of using the MacBook wirelessly and the PowerMac with a wired connection. I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station, and it was pretty easy to set up, it plugs into my cable modem to share the internet connection.
They make hardware devices that allow you to share a docking station between more than one computer, called a KVM switch, so you can have one keyboard, video display, and mouse and switch between two active computers.
Alternately, using the network connection, you can use Chicken of the VNC, which is a virtual network computer, this opens a window, or full-screen mode, of a computer so you can operate it from another computer.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
You can also control a PC from the Mac using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection.
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopc lient
Some monitors have multiple inputs, so you wouldn't need to use a KVM switch, if for example your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs, the front panel can select the source, so you could use a DVI adapter for the MacBook and a VGA for the PowerMac. You could still use the KM portion of a KVM switch if you wanted to use a single full-size keyboard and mouse with both computers.

  • Share internet connection

Can anyone enlighten me on why a 10.6 OS that previously shared internet with a 10.6 machine, can no longer share internet with a 10.7 OS?
My 10.7 has no problems with wifi, but seems to have no way of getting a shared connection from another mac.
All I get is an exclamation mark on the wifi signal indicator...
    thx

Does my Airport Extreme a/b/g card (Mini-PCI) in my G4 eMac support the new 802.11n standard or the enabler software?
    No
And how can I share my DSL (over Ethernet) internet connection over the Airport Extreme card?
If your needs are very basic you can use OS X's Internet sharing to share the connection from Ethernet to AirPort. Go to System Preferences->Sharing and enable Internet sharing.
If you have the firewall enabled, you would also want to enable Personal Web Sharing to open the standard ports used for browsing.
A much more robust and configurable solution is to pick up an inexpensive wireless router.

  • FileSharing Transfer Speed Drops after sharing internet connection

    Hi Folks
Sometimes, when I copy files via FileSharing,
the speed drops exactly to the max. upload speed my internet connection has.
    = instead of 12 MB/s I got 600 ~700 KB/s.
I needed a bit of work to see this connection.
But after a while, it changes back to normal.
However, I did share the ethernet-internet-connection from one machine via WiFi (to surf with an iPod Touch).
Could that initiate this problem? I believe so.
    Internet-Provider is cablecom, switzerland, zurich.
I use a Zyxel Ethernet Switch to connect  two macs with the cablecom-modem (and together).
So Idetached the cablecom-modem from the ZyXel Switch and restarted both machines.
Now, the copy-action via filesharing has the expected full speed. (Just no internet, of course).
After that I connected the Cablecom-Modem again,
    restarted (PowerOff/On) the ZyXel Switch,
    and tried the same again:
    Now the speed is slow.
It seems that I really should NOT share the Ethernet Internet Connection with WiFi
Won't do that anymore because I often copy files from one machine to the other and this slow transfer speed kills me.
Why is that affecting the connection between two local machines?
How can I reset this to "normal".
I hope there is a way to do it in OS X instead of waiting until it sets itself  to "normal" from cablecom's side.
[ -Despite the fact that I should use a wireless router- ]
Is there any chance that this is an issue that OS X could resolve?
Best would probably be: the local connection between two machines should not be affected by the provider in any circumstances.
BTW: The cablecom-modem gives - via a ZyXel Switch - both computers unique IP's and they are reachable/visible from the internet.

I am doing the same thing (have tried it occasionally over the past 6 months or so and cannot install Arch because of it)...sad panda.  The downloads start fast (up to 5MB/s), then when it gets to 49% it slows all the way down until it gives up and moves to the next mirror, repeating and repeating and repeating until finally it shows:
