  • Eth1 not detecting link, despite NIC link light

    hello
i have just added a new NIC to the server. when restarting the computer i see the link lights are on and green. When checking with the ifconfig the eth is shown but when checking with the ethtool it shows the link is off. i changed the cable the gbic but still the link is down.
the interface is connected P2P to another computer so the ip and route is not relevant, i just want to see the link on
i googled this problem and saw that i am not the only one who has it but there where no solutions. there was a very similar problem that was posted here but the solution was not entered.
i hope there is a software or connection problem here and not a NIC problem

  • SL500 - ethernet link light always on

Wondering if anyone else has/is having a problem with their lappy. The ethernet link light is always on whether or not there is a cable attached or not. This happens with the factory install (XP) or my own Windows 7 install. If I disable the NIC the light goes off, but anytime the NIC is enabled, and the cabled isnt plugged in, the light is on. If I attached a cable to the NIC it doesnt obtain an IP, still stays at the 169.254... The BIOS is the latest ver. and IPCONFIG will show a 169.254.blah.blah address which suggests to me its just stuffed.. anyone else seen this b4??

Turns out after a couple of years of 'not  worrying about it' and using a work around of a USB ethernet adapter.... it turns out the rest of the world has the same issue as me with the SL500 series.. Enabling/forcing 10mb/full duplex, the connection will work.. turn it to auto or anything else.. it fails.. Some have reported problems with work on battery but plugging in AC power causes it to fail..  My issue, is that if I set it to auto or 1Gb Auto, and reboot, the ethernet light will stay on not stop, even if there is no cable attached.. This is seen even when sitting at a PXE boot or BIOS screen with no cable atached... If I then reboot into the O.S... set it to 10Mb/Full, and reboot again.. all is well, At that setting even in the BIOS and I disconnect the cable the lights go off (as you would expect)..
I have seen dozens upon dozens of posts over the net about the exact same issue (it just took a long time to find what the hell I was chasing, and enough time to care to find out too).. But it seems theres issues with the capacitors on the motherboard for the particular NIC for this machine.. AND.. as reported by dozens and dozens.. is to replace 1-2 capcitors on the motherboard to resolve.. (but having worked for IBM, before it the 'THINK' range was bought out by Lenovo, the fix is to replace the motherboard entirely..)

  • Link Light on the Ethernet port ?

    Hi,
Is there a link light on the Ethernet port on the MacBook Pro ? It looks pretty dark to me ;-(
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4)

    No I have a feeling it's a 2-bit ethernet card, not a gigabit one.
I just opened up the box yesterday. I thought the
world of Apple was going to be better.
I am going to locate an Apple Store next week to see
see what their repair calendar looks like.

  • MXI3 (NI PXI-8330) board not detected. Not powering up, no link light.

MXI3 (NI PXI-8330) board not detected. Not powering up, no link light. Cable looks fine. Any ideas?

    PeteMan,
I will need to know in more detail how your system is behaving to give you better tips, so please feel free to send me more information.
For now, let me send you a couple of troubleshooting tips:
    Cable connection
Make sure both ends of the copper cable are well connected to the PCI-MXI-3 and the PXI-MXI-3 boards. Be careful when disconnecting the copper connectors. you need to push down the plastic connector so it does not get damaged. Damaged connectors could result in bad MXI-3 links.
If the connector has not been used properly, it could be broken (this rarely happens). Make sure you are not connecting the cable backwards.
    Power - Up order.
It seems you are controlling your PXI chassis using a PCI-to-PXI extender (copper cable). Make sure you are powering up the PXI chassis BEFORE powering up the PC.
PXI is built on top of the CompactPCI spec, so it uses the PCI high speed bus. The MXI-3 extender is really a PCI-to-PCI bridge toyour computer, so for your PC, all the slots in the PXI chassis look like more PCI slots. In other words, your computer suddenly has more PCI slots.
It is very important to power up the PXI chassis first before powering up the computer, because at power up the PC enumerates all PCI slots. If the PXI chassis is OFF during boot up, the slots in the PXI chassis will never get enumerated and your PC will never see the board installed in the PXI chassis.
    Normal Power up LED sequence
Each MXI-3 board has four LED light on its front panel: two green lights (POWER and LINK) and two orange lights (Tx and Rx). When you power up the PXI chassis you should see one green light and one orange light ON steadily (POWER and ). Then, when you power up the PC, both green lights shoudl be ON steadily and the orange lights shoudl flicker.
If you do not see this behaviour at power up, most probably one of your boards its damage.
If you have another MXI-3 extender kit, try to set up the system mixing the boards from the two kits to try isolate which board is the one that is damaged.
    Run the MXI-3 Optimization Software
The MXI-3 Optimizaton Software makes sure that the link between the PC and the PXI chassis has been set up properly. It will show you an error otherwise.
    MXI-3 Software Version 1.15 for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME
The PC powers up fine if the PXI chassis is OFF, but if I turn on the PXI chassis first and then try to power up my PC, my PC does not boot
There are several things that could be causing this behaviour:
It could be that your PC has an old BIOS that has issues detecting PCI-to-PCI bridges. You could try upgrading the BIOS.
A part of the hardware could be damaged. If you have a main-stream computer (like a DELL or HP PC, for example), test your MXI-3 extender in it to make sure that the hardware is in good conditions. Main-stream computers tend to use new Motherboards with good BIOS.

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

  • Can't use MAC Filter and have Blinking Red Link Light on WRE54G

I just added a WRE54G V3 extender to my WRT54G V8,  I have download the most recent firmware on both products.  My network in using WPA and after fixing all the typo associated with setting all that up I still could not establish wireless connectivity.  I am/was using MAC Filters on the WRT54G and had added and triple checked the WRE54Gs Mac address,, but until I disabled the Mac Filter I could not connect to the network.  I would like to get that issue resolved.  Secondly even with the MAC Filter disabled the Link Light blinks red at a regular interval.  It does appear that I have connectivity, but the light just blinks away.  If this is normal I could not find any reference is the written materal.  Thanks for any advice you might have.

Sorry to appear toltake so long to get back to this, but I did post a message in reply somewhere ????, but it doesnt appear here??? and then I got tied up on some personal stuff.
Anyway, I followed all the advice I could find on this thread (thanks to everyone who has posted to any question on this thread) and after starting completely over reseting everything and basically configuring the RE with everything else turned off and then powering up everything starting with the router, I got everything up and running using WAP and all.
The only issue left is when I enable MAC filtering on the router to allow only the MAC addresses in the list access to the network the RE goes belly up.  Disable Mac filtering and it comes right back up.  I have triple checked the Mac address I entered on the list.  The only reference to the RE's MAC address is on the sticker on the back.  I can't find that verified anywhere in the configuration screens on the RE.
If I could get his working I could count my security as good as it gets and go on about my business.
Thanks again to all for helping me get this far.

  • Range Expander's Link Light Blinks to Red

I have configured my range expander using the installation Wizard CD ROM and
it tells me CONGRATULATIONS, config is completed successfully, however, I
notice the link light on the expander blinks to red every few seconds, systematically, like on queue. Did I miss anything? The PC with the Linksys wireless NIC detects a very strong signal but it cannot connect to the Internet. Is this link blinking to red the reason. What can I do?
Thanks for any advice you can provide in this forum.

Thanks for your response. I have a WRT54G router. What is interesting is that
I actually cabled up the RE to my router and then typed 192.168.1.240 on my
web browser and received the prompt to logon. I logged in successfully but to a
blank screen. It accepted my login information and then nothing. Is the router
somehow preventing me from seeing the RE?
Without being able to see the RE I can verify anything. Have you run into a similar
    problem?

  • SPA941 -- No Network Activity/Link Light

    Greetings-
First time poster here. I just recently acquired a Linksys SPA941 second hand. It worked just fine until I had to relocate it to my new office.
Anyway, the phone powers up just fine but seems to hang at the "Initializing Network" screen. After about 90 seconds or so, it goes to the main menu.
Unfortunately, I am unable to ping the IP that the phone was assigned. Furthermore, my network router shows no link light or network activity coming from the phone.
It seems as if the phone menus are working fine, but the network isn't.
Any ideas? I've performed numerous factory resets, tried setting the network settings myself, used a different network cable, power cable, and a different port on the switch. No dice.
I should note, other devices connected to the same switch are working just fine.
Is there anything that I can do to spare this phone from the trash can?
    Thanks for your assistance!

“Initializing Network” message in your SPA941 tells you that the unit is trying to get a connection to the network. By default the unit should be set as DHCP; however, so if there were no filters or restrictions on the number of DHCP users or devices allowed to be part of that network the unit should be getting a valid IP address. If it has a valid IP address but still has the same message, check if the registration of the VoIP account in your SPA941 has a status of “Registered”. You can look it up by accessing the web utility of the unit. Try to use this link on how to access the web ui of the SPA941:
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16560&p_created=1211...
Check the Info tab for the status. It should be saying “Registered” for extension number you setup the VoIP line account. If it is “Not Registered” for status, review the VoIP parameters. Maybe due to the resets you made, those parameters are gone. Ensure also that the firmware of the SPA941 is at it’s latest version.  Other than this, I suggest contacting Cisco Tech support to further look into your concern. I believe this unit belongs to the business series devices that Cisco is now supporting. Try to go to this link for the other business series devices and the site where you can get hold of Cisco for support:

  • WIRED officejet 8500 has no link light

Have a wired 8500 a909 that gets no link light on the printer or the router when you plug it in.  Network IP settings are set to auto.  When you print a network congig page it also shows it as having no IP assigned and network status say offline.  When I run through the add device utility it does not discover a printer hitting refresh with in that Util does nothing.  have tried:  swapping out cables to the printer, connected the printer to multiple routers, reset network settings to factory through the LCD.  Tried putting in a manual IP but it never saves after I hit ok on the final step of adding the GW IP.
    HELP!!

I have had my officejet 8500a for a year or more with no problems using it on a home network in a wired configuration.  Last week it went offline.  I have replaced the cable, verified the cable worked with a laptop connection to the router, replaced the router switch, reloaded the driver software, set a static IP for the printer through the router software, rebooted, unplugged, tried wireless, read through hundreds of pages of posts on similar problems... and other things... all to no avail.  I finally uninstalled the printer, deleted the driver software, and started installation from scratch.  Now the installation does not find the printer anywhere on the network - wired or wireless.  It is as if the network card died a complete and irretrievable death.  Please help soon - no one answered this original post from trsonber - so I stand amazed but apparently not alone.

  • Cisco 4402 not showing link

I am installing a Cisco 4402. The port 1 and port 2 link lights will not come up. We tried using fiber and copper GBIC's, but the link will not establish. We made sure the ports we active. Am I missing a simple problem?

I would use a Cisco GBIC. Here is what I wound up having to set the switch port on our Core Switch to so it would connect to the WLC:
    interface GigabitEthernet6/45
description trunk port to Cisco WLC
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-25
    switchport mode trunk
Not sure if that helps or not.

  • WRT310N Active - Cable Modem Link light off. WRT310N of - Cable Modem Link Light On.

Been having intermittent disconnects with new WRT310N router (using old and new firmware).  When I lose connection, the cable modem (Moto SBV5120) link light is off.  If I remove power from the router, the cable modem link light comes on immediately.  As soon as I apply power to the router, the modem link light goes off.
It appears that settings/something faulty with the router is crapping out the cable modem's connection.
    Thoughts??

Connect the computer to the Modem & see if the Internet Light works fine or not ....
Because if modem does not show proper lights after connecting to wireless router ....you need to check the settings on the Modem itself ....

  • Why is Calendar Location not a Link?!

Love the iPhone! However... I can't help but be incredibly annoyed by the following. Maybe I'm doing something wrong... but why in the world is the following feature not available?
When I plug something in as a calendar appointment, I make sure to plug in the address (with state and zip). Now, when I open the appointment on my iPhone calendar, why in the world is the address not a link to the map? Such that if I need to see where the location is of my meeting, I can't just click the "location" in the appointment and have a Google map open with the location.
Is there a way to make this happen? Or is this in the line up for software updates?
    Thanks!
    mike

I don't know of a way to make this happen.
As this a a user to user forum, made up of iphone users, there is no way to know what Apple may or may not introduce in the future - unless they announce (which they rarely do).
I have not seen an announcement.
You could try looking through the manual, in case it is there and I missed it.
