Ethernet not working - Lenovo x200

My Ethernet on my Lenovo x200 just stopped working.  It's hooked to a gigabit ethernet network in my home which then passes through a Verizon FIOS 10/100 router.
I checked the driver and it is up to date (Intel 82567LM).
It shows loaded and no errors in device manager.
IPCONFIG shows IP 169.254.230.196.
Windows networking shows Unidentified Network on Local Area Connection with No Network Access.
Deleted adaptor from device manager and reinstalled it with no luck.
Disable adaptor and re-enable - goes through the identifying process and then ends with No Network Access.
IPCONFIG /RELEASE and /RENEW results in the same thing.
Ran Lenovo Hardware tests - all hardware pass - network tests of course fail.
Run Windows Network Troubleshooter and it tells me there is an issue on the router side.
I am running DHCP.  Other clients on the network are connecting fine.  I tried manually configuring the IP on this machine and it took the new IP address but still no Internet access.
Perhaps related - Tereno Tunneling Pseudo-Interface was showing with yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.  I don't know if this was always like this.  I found some trouble-shooting steps for this online - going into regedit and turning HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP6\PARAMETERS dword to 0. (It was all f's).  Now Tereno Tunneling Pseudo-Interface is now gone from device manager but I don't think this is relevant as I am not using IP6 (I don't think).
Bad network adaptor?

You may want to try updating the driver even if it is up to date in case the driver got corrupted.
Also:
Did you try a different Ethernet cable? Ethernet cables can go bad if they get pulled, crimped or sliced.
Do you connect through a docking station? The dock could have a bad Ethernet port or the connection to the computer from the dock could be corroded or bad.
Are you able to connect wirelessly? If you have a wireless router an inability to connect additional devices could point to an issue with the router.
Have you tried resetting your router? Many times simply unplugging a router for about a minute and plugging it back in can cure your connection issues. This is assuming you aren't in a position where unplugging said router would cause issues. For instance if you are troubleshooting in a business environment.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the driver directly from Realtek.   Fourth file on the list.

thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.
it will not happen in Mountain loin.

I had this problem on SL and on Lion as well, and it occures for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
In fact the internet connection was not broken as I could ping the destination usin the IP (not DNS name).
In this case the problem was related to mDNSResponder task which handles all dns queries.
It was the most frequent problem in my day to day work with SL and now Lion. It was never fixed by any patch from Apple. I tried almost all voodoo including fresh install, all possible config changes - no solution.
The only version with no problems related to network was 10.5.8. All the other versions had issues of different kind (WiFi instability (lost signal), DNS problems (for wireless and wired connection) sometimes associated with machine sleep and wake up and sometimes with no reason.
QUESTION: Is your problem independent of the access point / router you connect to.
I must say networking was (and still is) the weakest part, besides the other OS X weaknesses I experienced during 4 years of OS X usage.
No problems in the same network with Linux or Windows beeing ran natively on my iMac So hardware is OK.
Software is of poor quality. Not much more to say in this matter.

  • New Problem, Old Issue. Ethernet not Working

You may recall this thread: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/FIOS-Ethernet-not-working-Wireless-works-fine/td-p/203838
If you do, well, I have the same issue once more. It's driving me a bit nuts, to be perfectly honest.
About 10 days ago I finally had a stable ethernet connection on my Desktop machine to the internet. 8 days ago I marked the other thread as solved as it was still working and thought that my problems had been solved. Unfortunately, here I am 10 days later and suddenly, without warning, the ethernet connection on my Desktop loses internet connectivity.
I tried turning the router off and then turning it back on, but none of that worked.
Right now it switches between two different states without little indication as to why it switches between them except that it tends to only do it as a I unplug the cable and then plug it back in. The two states are simply connecting to an "Unidentified Network" which is much the same as the problem I had before, and connecting to an "Unidentified Network" with "Internet Access", except, none of the applications that use internet on the computer actually have Internet access even in this state. The Unidentified Network is the key to knowing I still don't truly have internet access.
Windows Firewall is off. It's actually been off for awhile now because I forgot to turn it back on after I initially shut it off trying to get it to connect before. Windows 7 (64-bit) is up-to-date, so that's not the issue either. But something is at issue here and I'm not sure what it is. Since the Wireless works, and the Desktop downstairs works on the ethernet, I can only assume it's something with this Desktop. But I'm not sure what it is or why it's doing this.
Any help with isolating the problem so I can actually fix it and not wait almost two weeks for it to magically work again would be immensely appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello there Viafax and Spacedebris!
Apologies for not responding sooner. I decided to take a look at a Windows 7 support forum to see if the issue was something specific to that. After explaining in detail, I got this post and I followed the steps. I posted the information I got and then tried the duplex thing.
The default setting it seems is "Auto Negotiation" which obviously wasnt working.
I tried 100 Mbps Half Duplex and suddenly I had a connection. I can connect to the internet on my Desktop! So I tried 100 Mbps Full Duplex and.... no connection.
So, right now it's set to Half Duplex. But I don't even understand why it would need to be Half instead of Full, or the benefits or disadvantages to either. Right now it's working, but I wish I understood more.
The 192.168.1.25 may have been a typo, since I set the device to run off a static IP of 192.168.1.125, to my knowledge no device on the network has 192.168.1.25
But other than that brief typo, I do believe the rest of the information is as accurate as I could make it. I typed it as I looked for it, so even if it seems odd, that's what it was.

  • Ethernet not working with 10.10.1

Just upgraded to 10.10.1 with my iMac.  The ethernet port is unavailable.  Wireless works.  Tried a PRAM reset and deleting the network configuration.  Still Ethernet not working.  Ideas?

I suggest you ask this in the Yosemite Forum

  • Thunderbolt ethernet not working after upgrading to Yosemite

After a very long and frustrating 2 days I have managed to upgrade my MacBook Air (13 Inch, Early 2014) to Yosemite. I have the official Apple thunderbolt to ethernet adapter but System Preferences/Network reports that the cable has been disconnected. It has not and other devices connected to the ethernet cable work fine. Any suggestions to get it working? Anyone else having the same problem?

I have a similar problem. My Macbook Pro Retina 15" (1st generation) can no longer connect to my university network through a Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter since upgrading to Yosemite. (Actually, OSX 10.9 on a different machine altogether also has the same problem -- tested and verified.) I tried multiple dongles and multiple Ethernet cables, and finally called our tech support. We found a workaround for the problem by purchasing a USB to Ethernet adapter, but this now means that instead of a single device chain leading into the laptop, I am now using multiple ports. I hope a patch for this is in the works.

  • FN Keys not working - Lenovo Settings error

Hi, I just upgraded to windows 8. I've noticed that my hotkeys are not working or are not working as they used to. These are the problems I'm having:
My mute mic button still lights up and appears to work but no notification is displayed on screen.
Volume buttons still work but it's the windows 8 volume display that shows the volume changes the display not the lenovo on screen display (not much of a big deal).
Mute button works, but I have to press it once then press one of the volume keys to mute and same process to unmute, on screen display also doesn't show. Before I could just press the mute button and my speakers were muted.
Pressing Fn + F6 to open communications utility gives me message that says "This key combination opens the Lenovo Settings program. You do not have the Lenovo Settings program installed on your computer. To launch the using this key combination, install the program first."  The thing is, I have access communication installed so it should work. Can someone me?
    I having a SL510, I'm running Windows 8 Pro.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since there is a Windows 8 Settings app available now, and I have it installed, it is bugging me, that I still get the error message telling me "This key combination opens the Lenovo Settings program. You do not have the Lenovo Settings program installed on your computer. To launch the program using this key combination, install the program first".
The App is starting without any problems (but I can see the dialog popping up just before the fullscreen app starts) and I have the latest version and everything works just fine. I also have the latest Lenovo Settings dependencies installed and so on.
In fact there is no "real" problem, except when I leave the app and return to the desktop there is still the dialog I just quoted.
I think its a problem regarding desktop applications and metro apps.
Anything I can do about that?

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet not working after Yosemite upgrade

Upgraded last night to 10.10, and now my Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter has no MAC address, and my MBP appears to think the cable is unplugged - it's not, and worked fine when the MBP was running 10.9 yesterday. Things which haven't worked:
Deleting and re-adding via Network Preferences
Changing default IPv6 to Link-local only
Rebooting with the thunderbolt adapter in
Rebooting with the thunderbolt adapter not in
Switching the thunderbolt adapter to the port further from the hinge and back again
Unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable
Plugging the ethernet cable directly into the wall jack instead of the hub it has always been plugged into
    Unplugging and replugging the Thunderbolt
Changing Location to "Work" from "Automatic" and back again

the link provide above leads to  http://plugable.com/2014/10/31/os-x-10-10-yosemite-ethernet-adapter-problems-we- can-help
...but these seem to be all 3rd party USB ethernet adapters and nothing to do with the Thunderbolt adapter of the thread - or am I missing something?
I have the same blooming problem, it seems to be totally hit and miss whether the adapter works or not.
I thought is was a faulty adapter, so even bought a second one for my MacBook Pro, so a bit more profit for the most profitable company in the world for a non working device.  My ethernet cable works fine to an old apple USB adapter but is 90% useless with Thunderbolt.
Renewing the DHCP lease occasionally works, but totally unreliable, at the moment it fails.
Still looking for a reliable solution.
Come on Apple, please sort this out, you have a connector policy of turning everything you can into adapters and dongles rather than building them in, so you end up with a slim laptop and a bag of adapters to carry around, and then when they don't  even work - doubly annoying.

  • Ethernet not working, strange problem

    Hi Everyone,
I have a very strange problem. I haven't had internet at my new apartment all summer and have been using my schools internet to use the internet. I typically would go to the computer lab and use the ethernet cable to plug in and it worked fine. However the other day i went to a different room and connected there and that worked fine, but now if i go back to the computer lab it says my IP is being used by another device.
Stranger further, now that i got internet at my place my computer won't even read it, it says its connected but can't get online, while my suitemate has no problem what so ever. Any hints as to what might be going on?
The thing is if i go back to that classroom and plug in it works but anywhere else my ethernet connection does not work.
I have a MacBook Pro, bought last summer running Lion.
    Jacob

I am having the same issue, Jacob.  In late August, I was working on a wired network at a hotel during business travel.  One day, I was fine.  The next morning, I received the same information...that my IP address was being used by another computer.  My business partner logged in to the network from his Linux machine without this issue, so it isn't the cable or the network itself.
I am now unable to login on any wired network.  And it now appears I am unable to create an ethernet connection anymore.
    Has anyone resolved this issue?

  • ETHERNET NOT WORKING!!! HELP!!!

    Hi,
I just reinstall my snow leopard yesterday. But, the ethernet is not working. When I plug in the cable, it says that there is no IP adress.
    I had already:
    -reset PRAM
    -Create a new location
    -MANY Restarts
-try the Ethernet on my bootcamp partition and it works
    -Restart my router
    -Permission repair
    -Change cables
    -Change ports
    -Renew DHCP Lease
I'm pretty much lost now, AirPort works fine btw. Just the Ethernet. It self assign an IP every time I connect.
It's not a router issue because the windows partition and other computers that are connected to the router seems to work fine. Please help me!!!
    Thank you.

Try connecting the Mac to a different router (e.g. directly into a cable or DSL modem or a friend's router). Even if the other computers connected to your router are maintaining their connection to it, there could still be a problem with a setting in the router that could prevent it from sending DHCP information to your Mac (which could explain why manually setting the IP addresses would still work).
If the Mac does the same thing connected to a different router (or plugged directly into a cable/DSL modem), and it's happening in two completely different OSes on the same machine (Windows & OS X), and with ethernet cables that definitely work with other computers, that would be a very strong indication that it is a hardware problem.
If connecting the Mac to another router or modem does work, then you know that it's an issue with the router. You would then need to check its settings to see if anything there could be preventing it from talking to your Mac. You may also need to try resetting it to factory defaults.

  • U330 Ethernet not working, wireless works fine

I have an Ideapad U330 that will not get online using ethernet in windows. Before you ask, no it isnt my router. When I use an Ubuntu bootable disk, the ethernet works fine and I can surf the web without issue. I reformatted and installed windows 7 x86 (It had windows XP previously and the ethernet didnt work there either), installed all the drivers, and updated the BIOS, the ethernet still does not work while the wireless works fine. I thought this was a hardware issue until the ethernet worked with no issue in Ubuntu.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Alright well I booted it up in Ubuntu again to get the details, got an IP of 192.168.1.142 and DNS of 192.168.1.1. When connecting through Windows, I get an IP of 192.168.1.198 and DNS of 192.168.1.1. The only difference that it pulled up that was different from Windows' ipconfig /all is that it pulled a slightly different IP.
But, lo and behold, manually putting in the IP pulled from Ubuntu worked. But each time I try to go back to automatic IP in Windows it keeps delegating it to 192.168.1.198. Is there any reason why it keeps doing this? I would imagine that the router could have a setting having that out of an accepted range, but since that's the only IP it'll obtain otherwise, I'm wondering why that is.
I guess all there is left to ask is whether there's a way to keep the IP and DNS as automatic settings rather than manual. This is a college campus and I'd like to make sure that it wouldn't interfere with other computers or locations, including off-campus locations. Any thoughts?

  • Built in ethernet not working on some networks

Ok i have read everything there is to read, that i can find, i have asked a mac specialist, and after all of this i am still baffled. I have been connecting to the internet from the vary first day that i received my mbp, via wireless and ethernet. There have been no problems until i go to work and try to connect through the built in ethernet.
I have received three different status messages when i try and play with the settings, one says
The cable for built in ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an ip address and cannot connect to the internet.
Built in Ethernet is currently active. built in ethernet has a self assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet
built-in ethernet is currently active and has the ip address
well with all of these messages my internet doesnt work.
I then go home plug in my cable there and it works fine.
Why cant life be easy...please help i am at my wits end

I have this same problem (and error messages) using the wired ethernet at work with my MBP. I turn off to travel to work, connect sucessfully to ethernet but when the MBP sleeps I loose the IP address. I have to go into Network preferences and switch from "automatic" to another location and then back to "automatic" to get the network IP address to re-populate. This did not occur when I first got the MBP, but started a few weeks later. I used powerbook G4 on this network with no issues for over a year. Never have an issue using wireless. I think I have used wired connection in a hotel without issues. Could it be something related to this network?
