Ethernet Port Not Working After 10.6.6 Upgrade

Hello! Since upgrading to 10.6.6, I have lost my Ethernet port connectivity. AirPort is working fine.
I have done the following:
-checked ethernet cable
-used System Preferences/Network to check connection and try to create a new one
-used Diagnostic button
-zapped PRAM
-reset SMC
-repaired my disk permissions
-installed the 10.6.6 combo update
-booted in Safe Mode and then restarting
Is anyone aware of an incompatibility with 10.6.6 and the Yukon adapter?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

let me reiterate. 27 ' iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo just updated to 10.6.6 uses AirPort to access the internet. Set up to share it's internet connection via ethernet with PPC Dual 2.3 G5 running 10.5.8. Up until the 10.6.6 update things were fine. After updating the iMac's OS, the PPC lost it's internet connection. On the PPC's network System Prefs, the built in ethernet is connected and green. The iMac is in the finder under Shared. On the iMac, the PPC is in the finder under Shared and in Network settings the ethernet connection has a self-assigned IP with a yellow light. I have reset and rebooted all settings and devises on the network with no resolve.

  • Ethernet port not working after installing Leopard

All fine when in 10.4.8, after installing 10.5 it no longer works.
Says cable is unplugged, checked the cable on other devices and the router and cant see any problems on system profiler.
    Any ideas ?

Cat6 cables are not required or beneficial for most home situations. The purpose of Cat 6 cables is to be able to work around a electronically "noisy" area, or to pinch out a little bit more throughput in a Gigabit network.
If you change a cable to Cat6 it will still work at the Cat5 or 5e standard if any of your other cables are not Cat6.
I'm running GB ethernet using hundreds of feet of Cat5e wiring into several rooms. No problems with Leopard.

Welcome to the HP Forums  MillaMagia,
I see by your post that the USB isn't being recognized.
I can help you with this issue.
Are you using the same USB cable? (known good USB cable)
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 cable and not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Try another USB port on the Laptop, some of the USB ports are more powered then others.
I have provided a document to see if the printer is partially recognized in the device manager, which is causing the printer not to be recognized again. (the uninstall from the CD should have removed the entry and the printer from the registry)
Leave the printer turned on and the USB cable connected directly to the computer and the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Here is a document for Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
Check to see if there are any hardware driver conflicts, you might see a ! mark or a red x beside a device with a conflict or unknown device, look under universal serial bus controllers, look for USB printing support or mass storage device, delete the entry by right clicking and select uninstall, OK.
Let me know how it was listed. (screen shots welcome)
If this is a Laptop then check the power management settings.
Access the device manager. Windows 8-How do I access the Device Manager.
Select universal serial bus controllers from the list, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Disconnect the USB, run the full uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • IMessage not working after iOS 5.1 upgrade! Feedback pls

iMessage not working after iOS 5.1 upgrade, anybody experiencing this as well? Feedback please......

You shouldn't have to hard restart and it shouldn't have anything to do with your router.  If anyone else runs into this problem try resetting the network settings on your phone.  All the steps to do this can be found here http://tekshot5.com/ios-5-1-imessage-fix/
Edit: Some of us don't have the option of resetting our DNS servers.  I run my own for example for caching purposes.

  • HDMI Port not working after Windows 10 Upgrade

My HDMI port quit working after upgrading to Windows 10. The VGA port works fine. I have triend many of the fixes for listed for this issue for upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8/8.1. Here's whay I've done so far... 1) Downloaded the most recent drivers for my Intel(R) Graphics Card. Outcome: It said the drivers installed were newer than the driver I was installing. Tried anyway, didn't work. 2) Uninstalled the driver and let windows update it.Outcome: Black screen, then it restarted and installed the same driver it had before. 3) Tried installing the Windows 7 Driver for my Intel(R) Graphics Card. Outcome: Black screen, then it restarted and installed the same driver it had before. 4) At this point I tried the last resort. I spun around three times in a circle and spit in the corner.Outcome: Wife yelled at me and kids thought I had a demon.  Please help, I use this computer in the office to connect to a 65" TV and I NEED my HDMI port.

Yeah, lot's of people on this forum have stated they have the same issue. It's not just people with Intel/AMD switchable cards either. I have an AMD 8650G + 8670M dual grapgics card and I am having the same issue.

  • Built-in ethernet port not working in unibody Mac Mini

    Hi,
So ever since I acquired this new mac mini I haven't been able to get it to recognize any devices connected via ethernet. I obviously checked the cables and all is good there. I tried connecting it to another mac, and while the other machine was detecting a device (the mac mini) at the other end of the cable, the mac mini kept saying that the cable is unplugged or the device off.
After several days of having the issue I decided to remove the ethernet service from the network preference pane to set it up again but to my surprise, the built-in ethernet option was not available (I only got airport, firewire, bluetooth DUN, VPN, PPPoE and 6 to 4). At this point I tried removing the networkinterfaces.plist file form the system configuration folder in the system preferences folder to no avail. I then tried to zap the PRAM, NVRAM, reset the SMU, SMC and all that kind of things to get the port recognized by the system but no luck.
When I look at the system profile I get these weird results in Ethernet Cards:
    pci14e4,4353:
    Type: Other Network Controller
    Bus: PCI
    Vendor ID: 0x14e4
    Device ID: 0x4353
    Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x106b
    Subsystem ID: 0x0093
    Revision ID: 0x0001
    Link Width: x1
    BSD name: en0
    Kext name: AppleAirPortBrcm43224.kext
    Location: /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm 43224.kext
    Version: 425.16.2
Comparing it to other macs I have It should read "ethernet" rather than that strange pci name on top and the kext name shouldn't read airport but something like AppleIntel and in location it shouldn't direct to the IO80211Family.kext package but rather to the IONetworkingFamily.kext.
So I popped in the system install DVD and fired up System profiler and at that point I didn't even get an "ethernet cards" option in the left side pane. So this is leading me to believe that the hardware is not being recognized at all, so maybe it's damaged. I did replace the HDD with a bigger one and change the RAM modules to bigger ones but I don't think I could have damaged the hardware in these processes, also I don't see how this would affect the ethernet port as it's integrated to Motherboard and didn't messed with it at all (I was very careful, to say the least!).
The last thing to do is reinstalling the system but I don't think it'll help (after seeing that the ethernet port is not even being detected by the install OS) but I need to offload all the data from my internal disk and at the moment I don't have an spare drive to do it.
So, what's the recommendation? A field trip to an Apple Store? Closest one is like 3,000 km from where I am right now, so...
Well, thanks for any pointers, suggestions and help in general.

I do not have any answers for you. Yes it appears to be reading what should be an ethernet card as an AirPort card. Have you played around with trying to install another version of Mac OS X other than the version that shipped with the Mac mini? Apple has long told us that we should not install a version of Mac OS X that was older than the shipping version. With the Mid 2010 Mac mini, the Restore DVD has the only version of Snow Leopard that will work with this Mac mini's specific hardware. At least until Apple releases 10.6.5. If you have installed other versions of Mac OS X, then erasing the HDD and installing the OS from the Restore DVD(s) that shipped with the mini may get you back to the point you need to be.
Unfortunately I think that you voided your Apple Warranty when you installed the different HDD. That was always a question in the past when folks wanted to open the former version of Mac minis and upgrade the RAM. But with the 2009 models folks started reporting here in the Apple Discussions that Apple was informing them that they had voided their warranty by opening their Mac mini. This new model made the RAM user upgradable, but the User Manual specifically states on page 43, 54 and 61 that there are no user serviceable parts in the Mid 2010 Mac mini except the memory.

  • Ethernet Port not working 50% of the time?

On my new GD55 P67 50% of the time I start my computer the Ethernet port does not work. I know the cable is good because I have tried several cables. It seems to have problems right after I installed SP1 for windows 7. Is their a known problem with the Ethernet port on this motherboard?

By "start my computer" do you mean start from a complete shutdown, start from S1/S3 sleep or start from hibernation?
The next time you start the computer and your Ethernet port doesn't work, open up a Command Prompt window and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes).  Copy and paste the results displayed for the Ethernet port you are having a problem with (or just copy it all if you are not sure which section belongs to the port in question).

  • Ethernet Port not working

I had bought a new HP ENVY 15-AE009TX just a week back and now suddenly my ethernet connection is not working. It seems the problem is with the port because the 2 lights keep disappearing and start after a few seconds i thought they were supposed to be on constantly one white light and another blinking. I dunnow what else could be the problem the drivers seem to be fine. The troubleshooter in windows says to attach the ethernet cable when i already have it inserted. Any help is appreciated.

    Which port are you using?
The second (upper) NIC is only activated once the first (lower) NIC is.
If you're trying to use the upper NIC without first using the lower NIC, that could be your problem.
Once you've verified that, check the switch settings and make sure the port is configured for auto-negotiation. By default the Mac will use auto-negotiation and it's possible that you won't get a link if the switch on the other end is not set the same (e.g. it's set for 100-full).
Of course, if you've changed the Mac's settings (in Network preferences -> Ethernet) to something other than 'Auto', then you should make sure the switch is set the same.

I have the same problem when I updated to OS X 10.10 I lost both my USB ports as far as they will not recognize anything that I plug into them.  The power part of the USB seams to work since it will recharge my Striiv Touch but nothing shows up when you connect anything to the ports.
I have tried a number of things from rebooting, trying other usb devices that work on other systems with no problems but will not work on my Macbook Pro.
    Any Help out there?

  • HP 7210 All-In-One Ethernet Port not working

The green Ethernet port light is not lighting and the computer can no longer find the printer.  I believe it may have been damaged by a power surge during a lightning storm.  I have checked the Ethernet cable that connects it and it is working fine with my laptop so it is not the cable coming into the printer.  The printer works fine with the USB cable and all other printing, faxing and copying functions are working fine.  Is it possible to repair or replace the Ethernet port?
I have also tried setting the IP address back to default and manually setting the IP address.  The port is just not recognizing the cable.

Jim B - First, thank you so much for helping me.
I was able to get the green port light to light-up by performing the steps 1 - 5 you recommended.  Also the amber data light is on but not blinking.  In fact now they both stay lit even when the cable is removed.  When I use the same cable with my laptop the green light comes on and the amber light blinks.
Unforntunately, the printer is still not finding the IP address.  I tried the function to "Restore the Network Defaults" and I also tried to manually set the IP Address.  When I print the network settings it indicates the status is "Offline" and I have the following changes:

  • USB warning and ports not working after update to Snow Leopard from Tiger

I've gone for hours through all kinds of forums without finding a proper answer, so here I am.
This morning I've installed OS Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my iMac, previously I had OS Tiger 10.4.11 running. Everything seemed fine until I restarted and then I started getting "USB drawing too much power" promps all over the place even though the only thing that's attached to the iMac is the keyboard and the mouse (they both work fine). The process went like this:
The iMac is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo from october 2007
First I did an upgrade of my RAM, from 1GB to 2GB, that went ok.
Then I runned the install dvd for Snow Leopard, I did not perform a clean install, just did it over my old data. After restart, everything worked but i got this USB warning message, one of them. At that point my usb's still worked, (even though the warning) I could print and scan. To get rid of the warning, i resetted the PRAM and SMC, as suggested everywhere. After doing so, the promps multiplied and my usb ports ceased working, except for the keyboard and the mouse attached to it.
I've done the Apple Hardware Test, and it gives no malfunctions.
Firewire works fine, Isight buildt-in camera and bluetooth too.
I've tried all usb's and the keyboard will work in all of them, not like my printer and scanner which are completely ignored.
USB power warning also appears at restart with no deviced connected (no keyboard and mouse, i've tried).
I've also found in many forum entries  the possibility of a problem on the logic board, but since i've never had a problem with my imac until today i would not be sure about a hardware malfunction.
The last thing i've found around that could be a clue is something about the kernel extensions, but that's complete chinese for me, I'm  a mac plug&play user and not too much of a mac expert.
Does anybody have an idea about what could be going on? Should I perform a clean install of snow leopard? Would that solve the problem?
Many thanks in advance to the community for the help, I'm quite lost since I've owned macs for the last 15 years and this is the first problem I have with one.

I think it's serious, but if it didn't do it booted from Install Disc then Software is highly suspect.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
Did we get the warning in Safe Mode?
