Ethernet Power line Compatibility.

Hi,
I have a BT YouView box connected to the internet through the default Arcnet Ethernet Power line Adapter. Are these HomePlug AV compliment?(will they work with other adapters such as TPLinks?) I've tried Googleing it but I find nothing...
Thanks in advance!

The manufactures say their powerline adaptors will work with other manufactures powerline adaptors but in practice they rarely do. You are best sticking to the same make and model.

  • Anyone use Ethernet with power line adapter to increase Internet speed ?

I have been using Wi-Fi for decades on all my connections and I have never used Ethernet because of the requirement to extend the wiring throughout the three levels of my house. I recently came across articles on power line adapters and thought this maybe the ideal way to increasing the speed not only on my 5K iMac on the bedroom level but also on my Mac mini used as a media centre down in the basement where I now intend to introduce Kodi et al to my Apple TV to increase my
my enjoyment of Cable TV, which I am finding is becoming less and less enjoyable from an entertaining POV.
I would appreciate hearing from others who have successfully chosen this route and who can express their views on the matter before I take the plunge.
    Thank you.

My router is the Apple Airport Extreme which is 802.11ac. and the Bell modem (Sagemcom 2864) has been in use with Bell Fibe TV for the past 3 years. Bell replaced the Bell receivers in January when my contract expired and I threatened to opt out.  They are Arris models and are really better, but they never replaced the Bell modem, which gives me a whole lot of trouble from time to time, but I intend to bring their 'technician' back to attempt to resolve that situation. Three years these days can result in improvements in electronic components that are surprising to say the least.
I'm really amazed to see the kind of speeds that 'Old Toad' reported, since my speed tests rarely exceed 17 Mbps Down and 7 Mbps UP, which explains why I am interested in seeking higher speeds. There is another local ISP that offers a choice of higher speeds, which Bell hasn't so far, so I may because of my predicament switch ISPs if there is no improvement available from Bell.
Thank you Allan Eckert, "Old Toad'  and 'woodmeister' for your responses. I obviously need to find an ISP who can offer speeds double what I am having to endure now. One feature that is in Bell's favour is that the TV picture quality is actually superb, if only the Internet speed was on a par with that.

  • What power line adapters work with the Simpler Net...

I currently use the provided Simpler Networks power line adapters, one plugged into my HH3 and the other for my BT Vision box. I want to also connect my desktop PC to the HH suing a power line adapter. Which ones will work with the ones I already have?
As a side note, do I need to buy another pair, or will all three talk to each other, and know to use the one connected to the HH as the way to the internet?
    Thanks in advance

If a powerline adapter is plugged into HH ports 1,2,3 you can get no more than 100 Mbps they are only Fast Ethernet ports and cannot go any faster.
You would be better with Gigabit switches, Cat5e ethernet cables and a theoretical maximum of 1000 Mbps which you only DONT get when there is an ethernet packet collision, and only connecting via HH3 or HH4 port 4 the GigE port
If you put a fast ethernet switch in the wrong place you will only get 100 Mbps across it.

  • Connecting PC via Power line Adapters to BT TV Hub...

I know (from BT's website) that Power line adapters cannot be used to connect the new BT TV box to the new Infinity Hub5 Router if I have the extra 18 channels (And I do want them) - the connection has to be by hard wired cable only. But what I cannot get a definitive answer to is; can I connect my desktop PC (upstairs) to the BT TV Infinity Hub5 Router (downstairs) via Power line adapters? and will it affect the BT TV box in anyway? As I wish to access the Internet this way and not by wireless!
I called BT & their online chat about this, but they did not know and refused to let me speak to an engineer unless a placed an order. In fact they repeatedly asked what package I wanted and if I would like to place an order - which would be silly if I cannot connect my PC the way I want.
Hope anyone can give me a definitive answer to this question!

BT do sell powerline adapters which would do the job.
If it just to connect a PC and other wired devices, then these would do.

  • Removing power lines using the Stroke path method

I watched a video created by Adobe Product Manager Brian O. Hughes titled Adobe Max:  Hidden Gems in Photoshop an excellent video (see link below).  I have been trying his easy method of removing power lines from an image using the pen tool and stroke path method defined as follows:
Using the pen tool create a path of the line to be removed.  Making sure the brush tool is small and set at 100% opacity;  click on the Spot Healing Brush making sure it is set to "content aware".  Then in the path panel click "stroke path" and it removes the line.
Well I have followed these instructions several times, very simple, but it doesn't remove the line for me.  I can manually shift click the start and ending point and it removes it but using the stroke command within the path panel doesn't work.  I am making sure the path is active.
Any ideas why it doesn't work for me?
    Thanks...........Ralph
Here is the link to the video, his technique is listed near the end, @ minute 56:  http://www.youtube.com/user/Photoshop

Hi jjMack, thanks for your response.  I found my problem after realizing that I hadn't terminated my pen line.  I didn't realize I had to click the end anchor point to complete the line,  I thought since the line was obvious on the image that it had been created and  thought I couldn't see it in the paths panel because it was so small (these old eyes aren't what they used to be).  When clicking on the last anchor point it could easily be seen on the paths panel..  I just don't use the pen tool enough so I didn't realize my error.  Learn something everyday.  Incidentally, I had set the stroke path on the paths panel to Spot Healing Brush and only used the tools menu to confirm that content aware was selected.
    Thanks again JJ................Ralph

  • Second request; How canyou remove a power line with PS CC?

    Hi,
I konw there is a terrific new feature in PS CC (I have used it before!) but I just can't find any explanation on how to to do it!
The question is how do you remove, from an imge, a power line, or a telephone line by symply clicking on both ends of those lines in order to remove them?
    Thanks
    Serge

    Hi,
Thanks to you and others on this.
They all finally brought me to the solution even by haphazard ways.
It turns out the the feasture was able under PS CS5 (which I didn't have).
However the feature under cc is slightly different and here it is FWIW.
    1) Use the Spot healing brush tool
    2) Make sure the content awareness is checked.
    3) I checked also "sample all layers"
    4) clik on one end
    5) clic on the other end with shift-click
and the nasty little wire is gone.
I don't understand why such a neat feature like this is still not much advertised.

+You may have already done this, but do you have the first AirPort Express configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?+
Could not find that setting anywhere.
It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.

  • Getting rid of power lines.....

Within the last 18 months, I've run across an Adobe TV tutorial describing how to eliminate power lines in an image but I'm unable to find the show. Does anyone have a method besides just using the cloning tool?  Or, know of the tutorial?

Have you tried other outlets? That may be an electrical problem in your house, worse case scenario. Try other USB wall adapters.

  • Removing power lines from sky

I thought I'd post this here, since it is related to photography.
I've got a set of power lines to remove from a photo.
Blue sky, with a bit of cloud.
The wires are running through the sky at approximately a 45 degree angle, based on the composition of the shot.
I'm familiar with some of the recommended methods: (1) cloning it out, (2) making a layer by lasso-ing a section of the sky, either above it or below it, then new layer via copy, then moving the layer over the wire.
But, there is enough of a difference between the sky above the wire, and below it, to make the new "sky" just as evident as the wire itself.
Can you suggest some other methods to accomplish this task?
    Thanks.
    Al

What program are you using? You'd usually do best to ask in the forum related to the program, rather than in the general photography forum here.

  • Yoga 11s Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Upgrade - Power Management Compatibility Issue

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my Yoga 8.1 device. I followed the application removal instructions before upgrading, then reinstalled the correct drivers for 8.1. Everything works well except for the fact that I get a Windows warning that there is a Power Management Compatibility Issue with the Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller. Any idea how to fix this? All hardware in the Device Manager are working properly.
Thanks in advance for your help. I have BIOS 7xxx.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have this exact same issue, but with the 8.x BIOS.
My 11S also has issues going to sleep automatically when plugged in or on battery power, as well as staying asleep more than one second when on battery power, regardless of whether I initiate sleep manually via the menu or by closing the lid/pressing power button. I figured they could be related to this, but I'm pretty sure I had the same issues before the Windows 8.1 upgrade.

  • Power line conflicting advice

First time ever posted on a forum, so bear with me.  Not at all tech savvy
Cant find any similar posts so I apologise if answered elsewhere in this forum.
I have a HH4, but speed is always dropping out, have a smart TV connected wirelessly and an X box using a Power Line adapter. Sometimes works great - 7+mb other times maybe <0.5mb. and cant use xbox or stream netflix etc never seems stable. Just been told by BT 'help' that there are issues but not btwn exchange and router but router and appliance.  They say that Power Line should not be used and that they dont advise use of one.......i find this very unlikely especially as there own advice on the www is to use one .....and they actually have them for sale......
any one advise if they are telling porkies so can be in a position of strength when I next have a chat

  • Can I plug a power line adapter into my 3rd generation Time Capsule?

I want to extend my network in our two-story house and want to use a power line adapter.  Can I plug this Time Capsule into my router THEN plug the power line adapter into the Time Capsule?  As a follow-up question, can I just use the Time Capsule as an external hard drive and connect it directly to my iMac to use Time Machine?

    Yes to both questions.
Normally you would plug the EOP adapter into the router and plug the other end of the EOP adapter into a power point on the other floor and into the TC running in bridge. You would then test that it works.. we can never guarantee 100% that EOP will connect.. it depends on the power circuit wiring in the house.. type of fuse box used.. loads of stuff that can effect it.. but if it works you should have no issues with it.
To plug the TC directly into the computer is possible albeit a bit messy.
    See instructions in this thread.
Using Time Capsule hardwired to Mac for back-up only.
BUT.. let me also add.. on an iMac.. I would strongly recommend you plug in an external drive.. fastest you can afford depending on model iMac you have.. if it is 2012 with USB3 the answer is made for you.. USB3 drives are cheap, fast, reliable. On 2011 you have thunderbolt which is super expensive.. but fast.. FW800 which is dead (don't tend to buy dead ducks) or USB2. USB2 is much the slowest interface. HOWEVER.. it is still faster than a TC connected by Gigabit due to Network overheads and slow disk speed in the TC. TM is more reliable backing up to local drives.
Thunderbolt hubs are getting cheaper.. and if you have thunderbolt to USB3 in a hub.. plus a USB3 drive it is about the same price as thunderbolt drive.. the advantage is all the other ports you get into the bargain.
