Ethernet Printer Connected directly into Airport

If I connect a printer (in this case an Xerox Doc12) to the ethernet port of an Airport Extreme or Airport Express Base Station can I then print to it wirelessly?
Like you can do for USB printing.
I have bought a Xerox Doc12 and it will only fit in my garage, my wireless enabled G5 Tower is two floors up and I need to send jobs to it that way as I dont have an ethernet lead long enough to send it by a wired ethernet connection. Hope that made sense.
Ur help would be greatly appretiated.
Thanks in advance Karl

I don't know that printer, but I do have an Xerox Phaser 8200 that prints wirelessly via the ethernet port on an AEBS. You just have to give it an IP addy and when you set up your printer, use that in the wizard.
A little tougher to configure, especially if folks that don't already have the printer set up on their machine try to print, but it works fine. Hopefully it will work the same for your Xerox.

  • HP Laserjet printer connected to my Airport Express?

I have bought a HP Laserjet printer and I want to connect it to my Airport express, so I can print wireless. I have my Airport express installed and connected to my router via Ethernet cabel and I the printer is connected to the Airport station by a USB cable. But my Macbook Pro can't find the printer when I search for it? What might the problem be?
    Hope someone can help!

The problem may be that the AirPort Express does not support your printer model.  Not all printers are supported, and Apple tends to favor popular, lower priced All-in-One devices for USB support.
On your Mac....open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Print & Scan
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Hopefully, your printer model will appear. If it does, click on the name of the printer to highlight it, then click Add to install the printer at the location of the AirPort Express
Try to print. Be sure to select the correct location of your printer, as it may appear as a printer connected to your MacBook Pro and as a printer connected to the AirPort Express. You must choose the correct location to be able to print.
If your printer model does not appear when you click the + button in the steps above, about all that you can do is contact HP Support to see if they have an updated printer driver that you could download and install....that might allow the print function at the AirPort Express.

  • I am unable to connect an HP printer connected to an Airport Extreme Basestation

I am unable to add aan HP Laserjet 1212nf printer connected to an Airport Base station.  When I click add it takes me directly to the I.P. window.  My MacBook pro running 10.6 does not see the printer, Bonjour does not search for it.

Had the same problem, still do, ended up getting a cable and using it when I'm printing.  Very disappointing.

  • How can I convert a coaxial internet feed to an ethernet for connection to an AirPort Extreme?

I'm interested in purchasing an AirPort Extreme but I'm not sure how to convert the coaxial internet cable to ethernet to connect to the airport. Does anybody know of a good converter?

If the Internet feed is provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) you will need an outboard cable modem that accepts the coaxial signal and converts it to Ethernet for use with the AirPort Extreme.
Contact your Internet Service Provider to learn what modem they recommend for use with their service.

I am trying to sync Go Rock TRMS03SR Bluetooth Portable 3D Surround Speakers with my Airport Express or iTunes So I can play Music in Multiple rooms. I have a WiFi network, my living room speakers are connected directly to Airport Express, so how can I get the wireless bluetooth speakers to play at the same time in my bedroom?

Did you ever get this to work?  My guess is that the speakers are out of bluetooth range at that distance.

  • Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Plz advise.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
    Post back on your results.

  • Can any printer connect to the airport extreme or do i need a special printer?

can any printer connect to the airport extreme or do i need a special printer?

There are rare exceptions but any USB printer should be able to use its USB printer port. Only the print function of all-in-one a/k/a "multifunction" devices will work with the USB port though.
The Extreme will support any networked (wired or wireless) printer or multifunction device.

  • Ethernet/wireless connectivity issues with Airport Express

I am having problems with my PC seeing my newly aquired AE and was hoping someone can help, none of the topics already discussed seem to be exaclty the same as my issue.
    Scenario:
    * iTunes on the PC does not detect the AE so I cannot play my iTunes setup through my stereo.
    * The PC can ping the AE.
    * The PC can configure the AE if I open the AirPort utility and go to File, Configure Other and enter teh units details.
    * Both laptops can connect to the AE via iTunes and the AE Utility also picks up the device.
    Equipment
    * I have an Open Networks 625W 4 port ADSL router with wireless included in the unit.
    * My PC is connected to my LAN via ethernet and is running Windows Vista fully service packed.
    * I have two laptops both connected via wireless on my LAN and all devices (ethernet and wireless) can see each other.
    * I have an AE with latest firmware and the latest version of the Airport Utility running.
    * The bonjour service is running on the PC.
    * I have tried turning the PC's F/W off with no change.
    * I have tried connecting one of the laptops to my network via ethernet and had the same issues as the PC.
    Configuration:
I have tried many different methods of configuration but the one that has me working this far is-
    * Joined to a wireless network.
    * Using DHCP (and getting IP addresses fine off the third party router)
    * Connection sharing is off by default so its working in bridged mode.
Its almost as if the router is not allowing those packets related to Airtunes to pass through from/to the wireless router(and I have tried so many different settigns there). I believe Bonjour is required and Im not sure if any routers have issues with bonjour but I believe its encapsulated within IP packets (not sure on that though). Or Maybe some routers don't work in this scenario and I need to update to a Belkin Wireless G or N or other. Or maybe the software will only accept direct wireless connections if its configured for wireless - I have no idea and am losing hair fast.
Please, any help would be appreciated.

    I finally cracked it!
I have enabled dynamic routing with RIP v2 (v1 works too), enabled multicast with IGMP proxy and used a bridge filter allowing all traffic between the LAN and the wireless networks. All three settings are required with my router. If I drop any of them AE from LAN to wireless will not work.

  • LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw printer connecting directly to an outlet

I received a new printer for my business because the past hp printers broke one me.  Tech support told me that I needed to connect the printer directly to an outlet and not use an extension cord or a power surge protector.here's the problem:
The designated location of my printer cannot reach an outlet and would need to require an extension cord. Can I use an extension cord from the printer to an outlet? Or is that not safe to do?
I just want to be safe and take the necessary precautions because my past printers have all broke and i don't want this one to break on me.
    Thank you

  • Need to see MAC addresses connected directly to AirpOrt Extreme

I need to see my MagicJack MAC address so I can reserve it an I.P. address or something.
Anyone know how to see what mac addresses are connected? I know how to see which wireless addresses are connected, but wired ones.
    Thanks.
    Dwaine

AirPort Utility in Lion does not display MAC address information for connected wired clients. The MAC address for the MagicJack should be on a label on the back or bottom of the device.
If you are still using Lion, you have the option to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Open AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click directly on Wireless Clients near the bottom of the summary page to see Wireless Clients. Click DHCP Clients to see wired devices.

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.

  • Printer connected to airport extreme very slow to print but when printer connected to iMac it is very quick to print

Early version of Airport Extreme station, 802.11g, saucer shaped model.  iMac wirelessly connected to internet via space station and modem and Canon MX700 printer connected directly to Airport space station and also printing wirelessly.  When try to print wirelessly, it takes about 1' 10" before printing starts.  When the printer is connected directly to the computer, printing starts almost instantaneously.  Because of internet disconnect which occurred occasionaly,  reset the Airport station and so far no internet disconnect problem but the printer is slow to start printing.  Printer software current but now have the slow printing problem.  I think I have set up the printer properly but do not know why it takes so long to start printing but so quickly when the printer is connected directly to the computer.

I know my post may be late, anyway I hope I can help.
The one main reason I can think of that ethernet is preferable to USB is who wants to run 20 or more feet of USB to network a printer. The cost of the USB cable would make it cost prohibitive. The Airport or generally any router/hub is not always nearby the network output devices. However small office/home setups where the devices and router are within a small area, reachable by USB, then your point is valid.
In any case, don't expect any help from AppleCare to assist you with the settings on the Airport side, Apple doesn't support connecting printers via ethernet . . . pretty lame response. I am really disappointed with the response and very shortsighted.
On the printer side, you need to set a static IP for the printer . . . one within your internal LAN IP numbers.
Before proceeding you will need the MAC address or Machine Address or Ethernet Address, it should look be a series of that will look like 12:32:00:00:21:02. If you print out your printer config page you should be able to find it.
From the Airport app, choose the Internet tab(icon) on the top of the window, then choose DHCP then hit the + key under the DHCP Reservations window. This will open up a series of windows, provide a description of the device, reserve by Mac Address>click continue> type in the Mac Address in the window, and then the IP address that will be static or reserved for only the printer.>Click Done.>Click Update> Router will reboot.
You will need to go to Printer Setup to make sure you have a printer looking for that IP address, and will need to do this on each workstation.
My experience with other brand routers are that they don't require the Mac Address, which caused the delay in figuring this out on my own, (a few hours) but it is working now . . . WHEW!

  • Attach wired ethernet printer to TC wirelessly

I currently have a ethernet printer wired directly into a 2008 1TB TimeCapsule. The printer shows up on the network without any problems, and all of the Macs on my network can see it. Now I need to cut the cord from the printer to the TC. The printer must be located in a closet to which it is not possible to run wires.
Are there any adaptors out there that will let me connect the printer to the TC without wires?
    thanks,
    Joe

There are less expensive wireless access points than the AEX, but in my experience keeping the network Apple always seems to cause fewer problems. With an AEX the configuration would be to Join an Existing Network. On a non-Apple product it would be, I believe, Bridge Mode.
