Ethernet != setup

While trying to reinstall solaris 8 on my used ultra 5, which is configured for a net boot-up, the system is trying to dial up an ethernet connection while I am trying to reinstall the os. How can I change this. Also, when I try to type "sys-unconfig", it tells me that won't work at because:
This program may not be run on disklessor dataless clients
How can I change this so that I can reinstall my os?
Thanks guys!

John,
Ok, I turned on the system and the boot device was "disk File and args: "
then I "<stop> - a" to interrupt the "SUNW,hme0:No response from Ethernet Network:........"
at the ok prompt I type "boot cdrom" with disk 1 in the cd rom
then it Reboots with command "boot cdrom" and I get these messages
Configuring /dev and /devices
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information
No response from ethernet Network: Link down-- Cable problem?
Skipping interface hme0
Searching for configuration files
Then I select a language
and USA en_US.ISO8859_1
My next choice is "Network Connectivity" and I have the choice of
Networked yes or no
I choose no
Then "Use DHCP" and I select yes
Then Hostname and I enter "ted"
Then " IP Address" and I enter a 192.168.0.5
Then "System part of a subnet " and I enter no
For netmask I enter "255.255.255.0"
Then I enable IPv6
Then it happens. The confirm Information box comes up and says
Networked:yes
Use DHCP: no
hostname:ted
IP address:192.168.0.5
part of subnet: yes
netmask:255.255.255.0
Enable IPv6: no
Do you see what has happened? What I entered doesn't show up on the confirmation.I then try to
go back and change some info. and it just keeps coming up the same.
Then the kerberos comes up and I choose "no"
The name service comes up and I choose "none"
The domain Name box comes up and I enter "Standalone"
The name server comes up and I choose "specify one"
Then the confirmation box comes up and it says the name service is "NIS+", it
always comes up this , no matter what I enter.
Then I get a system id error:
" The following error occurred while trying to set the NIS binding directory
for domain Standalone to facilitate aoutomatic seerver location,Setting
up NIS+ client"
Then the name service box comes up again, although whatever I enter just keeps getting
read as NIS+
Thanks for your help!

  • Base station ethernet setup?

Hello: I just bought a used v.6 Airport Express base station. B & W basic Mac, OS X.3.9. There are no internal or external wireless cards in the Mac. The Mac connects normally to home networkI want to connect the Airport Express Base station, directly to my audio receiver (RCA jacks & apple/monster kit). I reset the base station. The plan is to have internet radio transmitted to the base station from a wireless router connected to the Mac. Do I need to configure anything on the Airport Express Base station? Problems:
If I directly connect the Airport Express Base Station to the Mac, (to configure the base station), I get
-flashing yellow light on base station
-The Airport Express Setup utility appears to begin the setup, but stops, error message: "an error occured, communication with base station."
-the base station does seems to have a MAC address and internal i.d. which does appear to be read, before the setup fails.
    Thank you.

What you want to do will work. The basic steps are as
    follows:
    - temporarily cable the ethernet port of the Airport
Express to a spare LAN port on your cabled network
    - run the Airport Admin Utility on the Mac. Select
your Airport Express, click Configure. Under the
Airport tab, select the mode to "join an existing
wireless network". Specify the name (SSID) of that
wireless network, and select the same wireless
security protocol and password used by your existing
wireless network. Enable the speaker setting found
under the Music tab. Update settings to the Airport
    Express
    - you may then unplug the Airport Express from your
network and relocate the Airport Express next to your
sound system. You will know the Airport Express is
successfully configured, and connected to your
existing wireless network, if it shows a solid green
    status light.
You cannot make use of the Airport Setup Assistant -
it only works with an Airport card equipped Mac.
Your question (how to configure an Airport Express as
a wireless client to a non-Apple wireless router) is
frequently asked here. A lot more advice and tips for
this project can therefore be found by reviewing past
    discussion topics.
Thanks for reply, Henry. I'm finally able to work on this. What keywords for a search on similar setup do you suggest? "base station ethernet setup" is too broad, too many results not in line with what I want. I'll try "base station itunes stereo" too. Thanks.

  • MBA and ethernet setup assistant

I just purchased a 2013 MBA, and want to transfer my files over from my existing 2009 MBP. I have a Category 5 ethernet cable and a USB-Ethernet adapter to do this. I have the two computers connected with the ethernet cable, but they cannot seem to find each other using Migration Assistant on the 2009 MBP and the Setup Assistant on the MBA (I have my WiFi turned off on the MBP because otherwise it seems to want to use WiFi to transfer the data, which takes 40+ hours). How can I get the computers to "see" each other via the ethernet connection? I have tried googling this but haven't been able to find a single straight answer that pertains to my particular situation. Thank you for any help.

    You have two choices:
If you want to use migration assistant over network, first put both computers on the same network or get a small switch and connect them both to the same switch. Then launch Migration assistant on the MBA, choose from another Mac, and Use Network. Next open Migration assistant on the MBP (source), choose To another Mac, and follow the onscreen instruction. It will ask to set a passcode and continue with the transfer.
If you want to use firewire: Connect both machines with Firewire and restart souce MBP holding T. Then launch Migration assistant on the MBA and transfer.

  • Time capsule ethernet setup

I have a time capsule that I am trying to use as a time machine with an ethernet connection to my iMac 27 late 2012. The time machine setup doesn't seem to recognize the time capsule. What am I doing wrong?

the router mode is greyed out.
It is in bridge so that doesn't matter.
I can't turn off the wreless on my mac, as it provides access to the internet
No, if you turn off wireless then you access internet and both TC by ethernet.. there is no need for wireless.
If you want to use your old TC in complete network isolation you can do that.
You need to reset it to router mode.. and it will have no other connection than to the imac.. you are creating a secondary network.
The info is in the post here.. near the bottom with all the screen shots for the setup.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4817218?tstart=30
I would load 5.6 utilty onto your computer as it does manual setup better with the old TC.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Ethernet setup at library?

Hi! This is my first posting over here!
How do I connect to the internet at the library using an ethernet cable?
It's a blueberry iBook with Mac OS 9.2.2
    I have an ethernet cable
I don;t know what the IP/subnet etc... is
They do have ethernet plugs at the walls
There is no modem involved in this by the way.
I tried Internet setup assistant, just quits near the end
    What should I do?
I know in Mac OS X the internet control panel allows you in an easier way, but I cant have that with 3GB
Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Open the TCP/IP control panel and choose Ethernet from the menu at the top. When done, choose Using DHCP Server as the configuration; you should not need to do anything else to connect the computer to the Internet.

  • I have a netgear n300 router broadcasting my wpa secured wireless network and bought an airport express to extend the network.  I did an Ethernet setup from a MacBook, got the green checkmark but no extension.  help.

I have a net gear n300 router transmitting my WPA secured network, and I bought an airport express to use as a network extender.  I configured it  via an Ethernet cable from a MacBook using manual setup in airport utility.  I got the green checkmark at the end, but it is not extending my signal.  Can you help me?

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Netgear router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few non-AirPort routers that are known to work are:
    Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    BT Voyager 2091
    Netgear WGR614 v6

  • Comcast Metro Ethernet Setup

We have one customer with one ASA and one 3750 switch in headquater. 6 1801 Routers in 6 branches.
All connected via MPLS/BGP provided by ATT. And it was terminated at one port on 3750.
We plan to replace that with Metro Ethernet Hub/Spoke topology since the customer mentioned each office never talks to each other. Later on we found they have IP phones do need to talk with each other at branches.
Question - can we still use the MetroE service but configure routing to make each office talk with each other and how that would work?? I would assume some routings on 3750.
    Any info is appreciated. thanks!
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
It will work for sure since this is what ( in a much more complex scenario) we are implementing in our company since ab few months. Just take care of defining data and voice subnets as technically unrelated so to be free implementing very flexible and easy to manage routing policies. Is ATT providing L3VPN or what?
    Hope to help

  • Ethernet Setup Help

    Hi,
I just received a new SubBlade 100 and am having trouble setting up the network. How do I reconfigure the DNS server and assigned IP address? How do I get back to the original network setup wizard?
    Thanks,
    David

    How do I reconfigure
the DNS server and assigned IP address? For DNS: Copy /etc/nsswitch.dns to /etc/nsswitch.conf and
    setup /etc/resolv.conf
    See also: man nsswitch.conf , man resolv.conf
A fixed IP address for the system can be changed in
    /etc/inet/hosts
    How do I get
back to the original network setup wizard?Run sys-unconfig
The system resets it's configuration, reboots and on the
next boot interactively queries things like time zone,
ip-address, netmasks, name service to use, root password,

  • Using Time Capsule as an external hard drive with ethernet cable, disabling airport, using wifi from laptop

Okay, first of all, I admit right off the bat that I should have bought an external hard drive.  Now I am stuck with a 3TB Time Capsule that I want to tie to my laptop via ethernet cable, without having the Time Capsule disable my laptop's current wifi.  So, I want to be able to back up my laptop (using the ethernet cable and Time Machine) to my Time Capsule drive and still be able to be surfing the internet as if I didn't have Time Capsule at all.
My MacBook Pro is OS 10.7.5.
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    This is not difficult.
You need to work out one issue beforehand..
What IP address range does the computer get from the wifi router.. ?
If you get 10.0.x.x then you will need to adjust the settings on the TC to a different IP range.. eg 192.168.1.1 for the TC.
Tell me what IP you get on wireless. I will assume for now you are getting 192.168.x.x
In the ethernet setup on the laptop, choose configure IPv4 Manually.
Give the computer an IP address say 10.0.1.10 with 255.255.255.0 subnet. Do not fill in router or dns values.
You can now find the ethernet linked TC and get internet via the airport.
On the TC itself, just leave it in router mode.. and ignore all the errors.. turn off the wireless.

  • Help with Ethernet broadband please

Forgive me for asking what are probably simple questions - but I am having trouble with Ethernet broadband and I cant find answers anywhere ( including from my ISP ) . Thanks in advance for any help here !
I have a blue and white 700 MHZ g3 imac running OSX 10.2.8 and OS 9.2 . I recently had Ethernet broadband hooked up - it connects to the net for a couple minutes , then wont receive for hours, then works for an hour, then not, etc. The ISP says that the D-Link router they installed is getting a continously strong signal - that they cant see anything wrong from thier end . The guys who installed the receiver thing-ey on the outside of my house also configured the Ethernet setup . Should I re-set up all that ? What do I need to know from the ISP to do that ? Do I have to boot up in OS9 and set up the Ethernet there also ?
I dont have an Airport card but that shoul;dnt matter right ? I only have the one computer .

Please post in the CRT iMac discussions. Thank you.

  • Ethernet frame size / MTU

I'm setting up NAS at my house, using two different systems. I'm using a Buffalo NAS (4TB) and a Drobo FS with 17 TB.
I'm finding that the transfer speed is surprising slow through ethernet. Keep in mind I'm not a technical person. My surprise is that I thought ethernet setup would increase the speed to something manageable time-wise.
For example, I want to transfer around video files from one computer to another, I'm surprised it takes so long.
I've run a variety of tests, done some reading on these forums and around the net, and have found that it appears a typical home network via ethernet is about 15-20 MB/sec, more or less. Hope I wrote that mb/sec correctly.
Anyways, I've been surprised a bit that ethernet isn't faster than this. When I did a direct connect of my Drobo FS via ethernet to my macbookpro, I'm transferring over my Aperture library. About 400 gigs. This is taking around 30 hours.
Is this a real world scenario and I need to just get over it? I guess I thought that ethernet would be faster. Keep in mind, I'm not a technical person, so I don't really know what I'm talking about or expected. I suppose when I went to wire my house for the fastest possible connections, I was thinking it wouldn't take nearly 2 full days to transfer my Aperture library for backup, etc.
I have been playing around with MTU a bit. Set at 9,000 for the Drobo. I notice that I can only set the MTU to 1500 in my macbookpro. Wouldn't that speed up things with a direct ethernet cable connection between the Drobo FS and the macbook pro if the laptop were to be able to move the data in larger chunks (jumboframe 9000)?
Not sure if I'm wording all this correctly. I was hoping to increase the MTU to 9,000 on the MBP, but seem to be limited to 1500. Any thoughts on that?
Is there any way to increase speed beyond ethernet or is that going to be a real world cap for the average home user?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the information.
I guess the thing I'm looking at now, the big question for me, is what is the fastest possible method to transfer data off of a computer to some other source? Is Ethernet basically as good as it gets?
For almost all of what I do, the ethernet speed is alright.
The one thing that seems to stump me is the transfer of my aperture library. It just doesn't play nice. That one file seems to either
#1 - hang and not transfer at all, which is most common. Not sure why, it never gets beyond the "preparing to copy" stage
#2 - once it transfers, it seems that file doesn't want to transfer fast.
I'm not sure why, but it is so slow or impossible for me to get a decent copy of my aperture library.
I want to be able to keep a backup on my drobo, frequent backup that is updated weekly or maybe even twice weekly. But it is taking up to 2 days to transfer the data on that one file, when it decides to transfer.
I have been able to use an external drive with firewire 800 and make a transfer of the file in about 4 to 5 hours. I suppose that isn't too bad overall. I'm still surprised, though, that the ethernet/drobo setup isn't at least as fast as firewire 800, but it doesn't even come close. Not even when I direct connect the drobo to the laptop. Not sure why that is.
Any insight, ideas, etc are appreciated. Basically, can anyone give ideas on managing transfers of files in the 500 gb range, what might work. I'm open to about anything at this point, other ideas, different kinds of media, etc.
    Robert

  • Wired Ethernet Deskjet Pro 8500 failed after Windows 8.1 upgrade

Following an upgrade to Windows 8.1 my ethernet wired Deskjet Pro 8500 A909g disappeared from my installed printers. This printer/scanner had worked successfully on this computer under Windows 8.
I have tried several suggestions including uninstalling all HP software and starting over with a fresh install. I can see the printer on my network by using a browser and going to the printers web address. I have downloaded HP's Print and Scan Doctor and can see the printer on the scan conducted.
When I download the latest HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Drivers, Version14.8.0, and run it, the setup cannot see my printer on the network. When I select the choice of a wired network setup, the software searches for a device then returns to selection screen. If I select a wired ethernet setup again the same cycle repeats.
I have gone through HP Solutions for Install Errors (Windows 8) Troubleshooting wizard without finding a solution. Once, during my efforts I successfully installed this printer using an USB cable, but this is not the solution I desire.
This printer is successfully installed on a second Windows 7 computer on the same wired ethernet Workgroup.
    Are there any solutions available?

I have patiently waited a week for any suggestions but have heard nothing. I have searched the forums and support sites without finding a working solution. I have purchased and successfully used many HP products both at home and in business for many years. This incident is discouraging and does not speak well for HP product service. Is anyone listening?

  • Airport TimeCapsule wireless works fine, but iMac can no longer find the time capsule disk for backups.

    Hi,
I have a new Airport TimeCapsule that I set up about two weeks ago in combination with a new iMac running OS 10.9.4.  It ran fine until 2 days ago, when the TC disk image disappeared from the iMac and Time Machine was not able to back up.  I tried to find the TC in Airport Utility and it states the "Airport Time Capsule was previously part of your network. Check that it is still in range of your network and is plugged into a power outlet..."  I've tried restarting the time capsule. I've tried restarting everything in order (modem>TC>iMac) and the iMac still cannot see the TC disk.
I've had two other issues that I will list in case they are all related somehow:
    1) The time capsule took several attempts to set up when I first bought it.  I had to reset the TC several times before I got all the way through the set up process successfully.
    2) I tried hooking up my printer to the USB port on the airport time capsule and although my MacBook could see it and print to it just fine, my iMac was never able to see it.
The TC is hooked up to the iMac via ethernet cable.  Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?  I'm about ready to send the time capsule back and just resurrect my old airport that worked flawlessly for years.  This airport TC has been a huge disappointment so far.
    Thanks

There are some real issues between Mavericks and TC .. (or just network bugginess!!)
There is a heap of things you can do but it is easier to just run through the whole lot in order. None is necessarily the cure and that is why doing all is important.
The list is in this thread.
Airport Utility shows "unexpected error - please try again" when connecting to Time Capsule
In your case using ethernet can be a problem.. let me say please make sure you have ipv6 set to link-local only in your ethernet setup. I usually only show it in wireless but for you it must be ethernet. The wireless connection seems to be utterly required now for connection.. and hidden away into the airport utility is a switch over from wireless to ethernet. When I made the manual setup instructions above this particular ability (or stupidity) of the Airport Utility was not apparent to me.
So here is typical Airport Utility (AU) v6.. but it is actually working over wireless only. (The v5 utility was wireless + ethernet).
I have an ethernet client on the network that is completely invisible.
Click on the Other WiFi Devices (wrongly named.. it should say other devices).
And you will see the option to choose ethernet.
Then the AU sees the ethernet client and none of the wireless clients.. brilliant stuff eh??
PS this is just a test setup.. never would I have any TC with such an illegal name.. But I hope it shows you what to do.
Fix the names.. most important.. keep them short.. less than 10 characters all the better.
    No spaces and pure alphanumeric.

  • Time Capsule - Can it run as DHCP router, create a wireless network and plug into switch for wired network all at the same time?

I have a closet with Wired connections from all over the house terminating in it. I also have the internet modem and a switch in this closet. My old setup was a netgear in the closet creating a wireless network and also feeding the Ethernet ports all over the house. In my room, I had an Airport express (a month old) bridging the wifi to make the wifi network larger. The Express was hard wired from the wall and my mac mini was using it's wifi (printer was plugged into other ethernet port). Everything was working great.
Fast forward to last week. My Netgear died. So, I bought a time capsule. My plan was to move the Express to the closet and have it create the wifi network and also then run cat 5 cord from express to the switch to feed all the wired wall plugs. Reset it and set it up to create the wifi network as well as DCHP NAT. Wireless was running great on it. Then I plugged in the Cat 5 in the second Ethernet Port to the switch. Wifi stopped working and none of the computers would connect using wired connections either. They would see a 'network' but nothing would work. I would unplug the Cat 5 feeding the swtich and the wireless would start working again. Plug the Cat 5 back in and wireless would stop.
So I thought I would try the Time Capsule in the closet and see if I could get it to work. Pretty much the same thing, except at this point I figured out if I went in and told it NOT to create a wifi network the wired portion worked fine and all the wired computers in the house worked fine. Of course, then I didn't have Wifi.
I'm not clueless when it comes to networking, but I can NOT figure this out! Can either the Time Capsule or Express Create the wifi network AND also feed the data to the switch for all the wired computers?
To simplify this is what I want my end result to be. I prefer the Time Capsule to be the wireless connection extender, but if I have to have the Express do it, I'm fine with that.
    1. Express in the closet creating the wifi network as well as feeding the data to the wired connections via my switch.
    2. have the Time capsule in my room at the opposite end of the house plugged into the hard wired connection to extend the wrieless network as well as have wired connections such as my printer and my Mac Mini.
If I can get #1 to work, I don't think I'll have any problems with #2. Help!

I have an equally complex setup with a managed switch actually but I have never seen the TC have this kind of issue.
What I do notice is you have changed the TC from defaults.. you are using a non-default IP range.
I have run across issues like this where people move things from default.
I would like you to start over.. factory reset the TC. That will set it back to default router mode.
Do the min setup on the TC..
    1. Change all names from what you were using. That includes the TC name and wireless name/s
Make them short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric because that is the correct way to network. Apple default names with spaces and apostrophes are fundamentally bad.
    2. With just the TC plugged into the switch.. and a single computer connected by ethernet. Power cycle the whole network.. this allows the switch to clear all the old MAC address.
    3. Test on the computer just ethernet. Turn the wireless off.
The computer must use dhcp and must get an ip from the TC.
It has to get the correct Router.. ie Gateway.. I wish apple could stick with proper network terminology.
And it must get same address or valid DNS server address/es.
If it fails.. please plug ethernet directly to the TC.. bypassing the switch.
You should get the standard IP addressing and internet connection.
If not please post the screenshot from the Mac of the network preferences showing the ethernet setup.
I need to see what address it does get. I need you to make sure the ethernet is the TOP of the list. So rearrange the order of network connection. With the airport off it should just go to the top of the list.
If it appears to be working .. but a browser cannot connect, open a terminal and ping an internet address.
Ping the actual gateway address the ISP gives you and ping the ISP dns address.

  • Airplay won't work with Apple TV and iPad 2

I have an iPad 2 running iOS 8.1 and an Apple TV 3 with the latest software and I can't use Airplay to send content to my Apple TV. I know there is no issue with the Apple TV since I can use Airplay to send content to my Apple TV using my iPhone 6, and Macbook, but not using my iPad. Oddly, Airplay will work on my iPad when I connect to my airport express, but not to my Apple TV - Apple TV doesn't appear in the drop down menu yet my airport express does! I have gone through all the usual fixes (restarting, restoring, etc. etc.) - to no avail, my iPad simply can not find my Apple TV for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated! cheers, d

I Have the same problem with iOS 8.2 and the latest OS for the Apple TV. My Apple TV is connected by ethernet as is my iMac. I can stream to the Apple TV from my iMac via this ethernet setup. But my iPad and iPhone 5s with iOS 8.2 won't connect even though I can see the AirPlay button and the sound a pics go blank on the iPhone and iPad .
I Have been suing AirPlay for several years with no prob,ms until now. I am running Yosemite OS on the iMac.

  • I can access my time capsule from my mac mini at work but my macbook can only access it from my home network. how do i fix this?

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook, both were configured at home to access the time capsule. I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home. The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow. Accessing the same files from an older HP laptop is as fast as accessing its own hard drive. How can I speed up the accessing of these files from my apple products. One would think they would work fast and the 'windows' computers would take minutes to map the drive each time...
    Thanks for any help.

I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home.
This cannot happen by magic though.. you must have configured the mini to access the TC remotely.. which method are you using, BTMM and iCloud??
The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
How is the Macbook configured to access the TC remotely?? If you are trying to use BTMM and iCloud, then it might be a case that with the mini running the connection cannot be done by more than one computer at a time.. this is generally the case although I do not know if that is specifically true of BTMM method. Try turning off the mini and leave it off.. (off not standby)... then reboot the TC when you are at home.. and then try and connect the laptop to the TC the next morning from work. See if it is then able to capture the connection.. if so start up the mini and I suspect it now will not be able to connect.. that will prove that the TC cannot cope with two remote connections.
There also could be another factor in here. If you are accessing the laptop via the same router as the mini is on.. then actually you cannot have two users mount the same files on a TC.. from the same IP address.. as far as the TC is concerned both devices have identical IP, that is the public IP of the work location router.
If you happen to not be using BTMM then the situation is even easier.. you cannot make two different devices connect to the same network resource using the same port. That is the failing of the NAT system.. one device uses the port then it cannot be used by a second device. You will need to do some fancy footwork and use a different port.
Anyhow tell us exactly how you are doing remote access.. otherwise I am just guessing.
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow.
Are you talking about files you are hosting on the TC?? Not Time Machine backups??
Can you tell me exactly how you are accessing the TC.. please do a test..
Copy a file to the TC and from the TC using the Laptop.. Use a single very large file, eg 1GB movie file.
Give me a read and write speed.. you can use activity monitor to give me an aprox average speed as well as peak.
Do the same test from the same computer with wireless turned off running ethernet.
Then do the tests from the mini.. same ones.. copy large file to and from the TC by ethernet and by wireless.. when using ethernet make sure wireless is off.
I strongly recommend you set IPv6 to link local only for your wireless and ethernet setup in the Mac.
    eg
Now do the test from the HP laptop and give me the results from that.
Is the issue wireless only.. ??
Then you might need to spend a bit of time fixing the wireless in the Macs.. you can run wireless diagnostics in Mavericks.
