Ethernet showing 'Unknown state'

I have just bought a time Capsule wanted to backup using ethernet, but my iMac wouldn't detect the capsule. I tested it with my laptop and it found it fine, so the cable and capsule aren't the problem.
I found both ethernet and firewire ports showing 'inactive'. I activated them but now they both show 'unknown state'. I have always used wireless so don't know if the ethernet was always like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

I don't see where you said AirPort was OFF in the first post. And I did not mean to imply that you did not already have it connected with a Ethernet cable. Obviously, if you want it wired, there has to be a wire...
Try going to System Preferences Network pane. In the sidebar, if AirPort is listed above Ethernet, click on the little gear icon and select +Set Service Order+. Make Ethernet appear first on the list. Then try restarting.

  • Services in unknown state

    Hello All,
I have a 2 node RAC cluster running on Oracle 11G on Windows 2003. Everything appears to be working fine, but I have some services in an unknown state.
If I stop all services using CRSCTL STOP CRS on any node, all services go offline as expected and OEM shows the fact that one of the nodes (instances) is no longer available.
If I then issue CRSCTL START CRS on any node all services start up OK except for the .INST and .DB services. Issuing the CRS_STAT -T the .INST service shows as 'online' but its state is 'unknown'. The .DB service for the database shows as 'offline'.
The stopped DB Instance does not start up automatically. If I try to start it using SRVCTL I get a CRS-0223 'Placement' error message . To get my stopped DB Instance to startup the only way I have found is to log on to sqlplus as SYS and issue the startup command. The instance then starts up with no problems
I'm confused as to why the above mentioned .INST and .DB services dont appear to be in a correct state yet my RAC cluster appears to function correctly. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks,
    Shaun

I wouldn't use crsctl stop crs to stop the services, that shutdown the entire clusterware environment. Use "crs_stop -all" instead.
As for your issue, did you check the alert log just after clusterware tries to start up the db?
Check the alert log on the databases that are not coming up automatically. There's probably an error in there.

  • RisPort and Phones in unknown state

Has anybody managed to get phones in unknown status from the RisPort? Both on CCM 5.1.3 and 6.1.1a I only get phones in other states.. but those pesky unknown phones are quite crucial to my application.

Was this PO added manually? I have found that agents I add manually will
always show unknown after a restart of Monitor, and if I delete them and
readd they start working again. If this is your issue, then there is a bug
    already logged for this.

I've read maybe a IOS issue, but why would the recommended version still have a bug like this in it?
I have upgraded to 15.2(2)E2, and also downgraded to 150(2)EX3 and no change with status on SFP ports, still showing unknown for any SFP plugged into them.
Moving on to another switch, just to verify if its a single switch issue or not.  I had a c2960x-24ps-l and this switch was on IOS 15.0(2)EX5 like the 2960x-48fps-l, but this switch did recognize the 4 different SFP's I plugged in.  So it doesn't look like an IOS image issue.
I have another 2960x-48fps-l, i'll fire up and see if it recognizes the SFP's.

Leo, just saw your updated message, I fired up two other same model switches with identical IOS's one 24port and the other another 48 port model, and both were able to identify the SFP's correctly.
The one thing different on the switch not identifying the SFP's is the [SYST] light on the front of the switch is amber in color, with the [MAST] and [STAT] lights green.  On the switches that did read the SFP's correctly all three lights were green.

  • OpsMgr 2012 R2 UR2 - Dashboards - unknown state

    Hi All
We are running OM 2012 R2 UR2 with SQL2012 on Server 2012 R2. With UR 2 a whole stack of additional dashboards were added. We have a state tile widget, it shows 3 things. I add an object for lync (LS Deployment object) and the state shows unknown. Ive tried
a group with different objects in and it always shows the state as unknown (as per diagram).
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    Hi,
If the status of the discovered item is unknown. This means that there is no monitor available for this specific discovered item.
Have you import Lync Management Pack into your management group?
Please also check operation manager event logs on the Lync object.
In addition, hope the below links be helpful for you:

  • New weblogic instances goto unknown state

    Hi ,
When i create a new weblogic server using Admin console , the server at time shows up in UNKNOWN State, where as normal behaviour is to show in SHUTDOWN state. have you seen or know about this kind of behaviour before? The problem with this unknown state , is once i create and change properties , i cannot able to start the server from Admin Console.
But when i restart the admin server, these new servers goto "shutdown" state, after which i could able to start the servers fine.
But i had to restart admin server everytime i create a new server , which ends up in unknown state.
im using WLS 10.3.6 version with node manager configured and jvm args are -Xmn 256m -Xmx512m respectively, let me know if you need more info on this
    Thanks in advance,
    Patra

    Hi ,
    sorry for the late response.
FlyingBird - here are my answers to your questions.
I created managed servers - Admin server is already created long back.
yes,, both startWeblogic.sh and startNodeManager.sh are started. I could able to see the node manager is reachable from admin console and node manager process has started fine on the node.
Sharmela - I dont see any error reported.
Since the new managed servers that are created , are not started up yet, ( i.e. i could not able to start them as they end up in UNKNOWN state ), they does not have the directory structure created in the linux box. so , there is no <MSX>/logs dir created so , im clues less on what is going on.
i have like more than 60 managed servers on this admin console. this issue was not there when there were less managed servers ( ~ 20  but happens everytime i create a new managed server. Not sure, what is the issue. Hard part is , i dont find any logs for it to find a direction in troubleshooting. Appreciate your advises.
Let me know if you need more info.

  • SDBTech-KSS-SHM in /tmp causes UNKNOWN state when deleted

MaxDB puts a file in the /tmp directory on HPUX:
    -rw-rw----   1 sdb        sdba           168 Apr 18 07:12 SDBTech-KSS-SHM-<SID>
By it's nature, the /tmp file system is routinely cleaned and files are deleted at random by our Unix Admin Team.  If this file is deleted, the DBM GUI will show an UNKNOWN state.  That means this file needs to be protected but why would you put a protected file in a /tmp file system.
Are there options to this?  How are others avoiding their Production liveCache going into an UNKNOWN state?

    Hello,
    1. The /etc/opt/sdb is file of the database register.
In /usr/spool/sql/ini is the location of the database register file too.
The database register files will be written to "config" directory as of database 7.5 installation.
    2. "SDBTech-KSS-SHM-<SID>' files - located in /tmp on HP server.
The liveCache kernel creates a "mapping object" during startup, which is addressed via a regular file "/tmp/SDBTech-KSS-SHM-<SID>".
The shared memory KSS (Kernel Shared Segment) is owned by sdb/sdba with permissions::
    -rw-rw       1 sdb        sdba
The file /tmp/SDBTech-KSS-SHM-<SID> could be removed by "root" during running a custom script to delete files in /tmp.
The liveCache <SID>  then need to be restarted for the missing file to be created properly.
    3. You could modify the script to exclude deletion of the files with name started with string 'SDBTech-KSS-SHM' in /tmp directory, for example.
May be you have a master file exemption list used by your cleanup script, and you could add SDBTech-KSS-SHM* to the list so that none of your liveCache systems will have this file deleted.
What is your SAP message number?
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

  • Windows Updates showing Unknown computers

    Hi,
I am deploying Windows Updates and the Statistics window shows a high number of 'Unknown' computers, how do I find out these machines and what is the best method to have this number as close to zero as possible?
In the Software Library > Software Updates > Software Update Groups pane the statistics are as below for Windows 7 Updates:

    Hi,
We could get those machines which shows unknown from reports. Then troubleshoot the process for the software update group installation and the state messages sent to MP on some specific machines.

Has anyone upgraded the Ironport ESA to 8.5.6-074 and had the issues of Raid status showing unknown? After we upgraded our appliances we are having issues with our ESA appliances showing the RAID status as unknown. When we reported the issue to CISCO we were updated there were no issues reported at all. Could anyone please confirm if you have experienced the same issue.

  • Will CSD shows Agent state as hold

    Hi All,
Would like to know if Cisco supervisor desktop can shows agent state as hold?
Issue is that even if the Agent placed the customer on hold, Supervisor desktop will show the Agent in talking state, which will give wrong perception to supervisor
    IPCC Version: 7.0(1)
    CAD Version: 7.0
    CSD version: 7.0
    Thanks,
    San

    Hi San,
Within CSD, the hold times are joined together with the average talk (Avg Talking) time of an agent.
So the CSD display will not show when an agents has placed a call on hold
You can find this information in the following document on page 30.

  • ITunes keep showing unknown error 48 while restoring iphone 4s. I've already followed applesupport suggestions of reinstalling iTunes, deleting previously downloaded ipsw on my computer and re-downloading it (countless times!) but still to no avail.

Hi. A very much help needed.
    - iTunes keep showing unknown error (48) while restoring my iphone 4s
    - I've already re-install iTunes various times
    - Already delete previously downloaded 8.3 ipsw and re-downloaded it countless times
    - Changed and edited hosts in windows drivers as per shown on guides
    but... to no avail!!!!
I am now without any phone to be used.
    HELP ME PLEASE

    Hello Sean,
It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If that does not resolve it the symptoms indicate to me that it is a hardware issue causing this to happen and would seek service for it:
    iPhone Repair - Other Repairs
    https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/other/
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
