Ethernet to USB cord isn't working

I moved to the Caribbean from Chicago.  Once I got here my Macbook does not recognize my ethernet to usb adapter.  Any suggestions?

An USB to Ethernet adapter has nothing to do with your geographic location.
So, unless you can provide relavent details about your issues, no one will be able to make suggestions.

  • One USB port isn't working...

    Hey,
I just realised that one of my USB ports isn't working when I plugged in my mouse... Should I be very concerned about this?
I live in a really remote community (ie no stores anywhere closer than a 3 hour plane ride away) and can't bear the thought of living without a computer for several weeks if I send it to Apple to be repaired.
Could it be a sign that there's something else going on? Is is expensive to fix?
    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
When one USB port isn't working, often a Power Management Unit (PMU) reset will fix it. Follow these directions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

It sounds like your iPhone may not be recognized correctly by your PC. I recommend starting with the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • Old USB cords won't work, or new

My kids and I each have an iPod Classic, so of course we each have an iPod USB cord. When we connect any of them to the computer they will not charge or acknowledge who's (i.e. Kim's ipod) iPod it is. I have also bought two new cables and they do not work. I can my camera USB cord in the same port for and have no problem uploading pictures. Why will the cords not work? HELP!!!!

    Hi virginiagal
i think the best thing to do is to take your ipods and cables into the apple store genius bar http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/. they will try it out and maybe the experts will be able to solve your problem. I think its probably your computer as its unlikely that a new cable won't fail at the same time an old one does. I would say it was the ipods but its very unlikely that more than one ipod would fail at the same time.
Good luck maybe theres someone out there who can help online, but its hard to try and solve your problem without seeing your ipod cable computer etc.

  • I need a USB cord for a 3rd generation, original model, iPod Touch. The cord for my IPhone 3SG wont work. Can I buy a USB cord that will work?

I have a 3rd generation, original model iPod Touch. My USB conneror cable cord is worn out. I cannot use the newer cord that works with my iPhone 3SG. Can I get a version of the cord that will work with the oroginal version of an iTouch, 3rd generation iPod Touch?
    Thanks for any input.

There is no difference in the cable for the iPod touch and iPhones.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

For info, what iPod do you have? You said"I have a 3rd generation, original model iPod Touch"
The original iPod touch is the 1G iPod touch.

  • M-Audio FastTrack USB recording isn't working?

M-Audio FastTrack USB recording- I installed it, and am trying to record sound through my keyboard. I can hear the sound through my headphones, and Audition recognizes  the device, ( I have the input set to Mono > Line In 1 FastTrack) but not the sound. The level bar won't move or anything. I have no clue why this isn't working and I've been messing with it for hours so I'd really appriciate some help!

Since this behavior usually indicates an interruption in the communication between Audition and the audio driver, I wonder if a "force driver reload" button would help. I'm not sure if the application can automatically sense this state since there appears to be enough of a data stream to make it appear as if things are ok.
Either way, it's something that needs investigation.

  • My apple issued iPhone5 certified USB cord randomly stopped working/charging with iOS7.  Help!

I've had iOS7 installed on my iPhone5 since it was originally released and as of last week, the certified cord that came with my phone is no longer recognized.  We've no aftermarket cables in our posession, yet I was able to get the phone charged using a coworker's aftermarket cable - strange.  I've tried resetting the phone, plugging it into my mac, windows laptop and the wall outlet with only one successful charge coming from the windows machine, interestingly enough.  I'm almost out of juice on the phone - has anyone else solved this problem?  I'm at a loss.
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

If you were attempting to update then it means it was not applied properly. Otherwise, there was something in the environment that caused it to go into recovery mode.
You will need a micro usb cord to restore via iTunes. Most have one lying around, or they can be had for cheap. The other option is to take it to Apple and have them restore it.

  • My cord isn't working!

My iPad mini 1st generation will not connect to iTunes the right way. It keeps connecting and disconnecting constantly. I have a Dell OptiPlex 745 with Windows 8.1 latest update. My iPad mini is running iOS 8.1.0. I have the latest version of iTunes. Is it possible that I just have a sensitive cord? I also know that when I plug the iPad into the wall to charge that it sometimes doesn't work! What should I do?

Borrow a friend's cord to see if it works properly. If it does buy a new cable At the Apple Store.

  • MacBook Pro USB ports only sorta working...

Both USB ports on my MacBook Pro have stopped being recognized. I can still synchronize my iPhone, but cannot use thumb drives or external hard drives. I've tried all the previously suggested remedies to no avail. Other thoughts, please.

    Hey deanfromjensen beach,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
That is odd that your USB ports are working to sync your iPhone but not working with thumb drives or hard drives.  Do USB keyboards or mice work?

  • Need to find replacement for USB cord

    Hello!
(I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, but it seems the Toshiba website is a bit of a hassle to navigate through so I gave up, and hoped that the forums could offer me assistance.)
Ok, so a couple of years ago I recieved a Toshiba External Hard Drive (model: HDDR160E03X). It worked great, stored all the files that needed stored etc. But the cord that came with it broke, and was repaired a couple of times. Now the cord is to the point where it cannot be repaired anymore (without a serious amount of work at least).
So I am looking for a USB cord that will work for it. I've tried multiple cords already, but they don't power the external hard drive (it is USB powered) so it doesn't work properly. I haven't been able to find a replacement, which brings me here! Does anybody know where I could find one?
    Any help is appreciated.

You don't say so, but I infer it's one of those cables that draws power from two USB ports (aka "Y Cable"). If so, here's one.
