Ethernet wireless bridge and a Laserjet ?

Can I use a lynksys wifi ethernet bridge to connect to my ethernet capable laser jet printer ? I want to print to this printer from within windows (using parallels and bonjour for windows). The bridge will get a IP address just like any other network device.
Is this possible ?
Thanks

Probably.
Do you own this "bridge"?
(Bridge meaning router? Switch? Hub?)
Can you give us a make and model number?
What model is your "ethernet capable laser jet"?
(Not sure quite how Parallels handles printing.)
PS, not every network device gets an IP adddress. A consumer-level network 'switch' typically will NOT get an IP. It's like a hub, only more efficient than a hub.

  • How to configure Airport as wireless bridge and wired mode?

    I have two airport extremes.
1)APBN#1 - connected to Cable Modem and local 8port switch
    2) APBN#2 - in wireless bridge mode + Ethernet connected to APBN#1
I would like APBN#2 to act as a wireless bridge to extend my wireless range for my notebooks, but also provide wired ethernet connection to computers connected to it. HOwever, this creates an IP loop.
How would I be able to confiture my APBN#2 to act as BOTH a wireless bridge and ethernet switch without conflict?
    Thanks

I am having related problem I think ... have Cox ISP, a Linksys cable modem and AEBS #1 ... ethernet out of cable modem into AEBS #1 then into netgear 24 port switch (to feed all the ethernet ports in my house). I am unable to have both the AEBS and the wired network function at the same time.
They have been working for a couple years now ... and for some reason recently (past couple days) been problems...
If I get the wired (flowing through the AEBS) to work -- then no DNS is being sent to the wireless. If I get the wireless to work, the wired won't.... AEBS #1 (numbering it because once I it up I have another to extend it....)

  • Airport Express as a Wireless Bridge and AirTunes?

I have a linksys router and just got a Tivo I was thinking of getting the Tivo wireless adapter but after much though i had a brainstorm
What if i were go get an express and hook it up as a wireless bridge (connect the Tivo to the ethernet port) and while i am at it connect my computer to my stereo system via AirTunes.
Is it possible to use the Airport Express as a wireless bridge and use airtunes at the same time while using my linksys router?

To do this, you must use WDS. Very, very, very few 3rd party devices are compatible with Apple's WDS.
The Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5) however are compatible with Apple's WDS. If you have one of those, it is possible.

  • Wireless Bridging and WLC

    Hi everyone,
We were planning to perform outdoor wireless bridging between different buildings in a city.
I wanted to know if it was necessary to install a Wireless LAN controller for this kind of deployment (outdoor only) ?
    Thanks!
    Regards,

Well what is the requirement for the link. The Exalt bridges do a good job and you can get up to 160mbps half duplex. The mesh is a bit more expensive and are intended not for such a long distance but requires a WLC. If you require higher throughput, then you need to look at another vendors point to point bridging.

  • Wireless Bridge between WAG120N and E1500

I have my internet coming into my WAG120N and going out wirelessly. I want to setup a wireless bridge between this and an E1500, so I can connect my TV to the E1500 (via an ethernet cable) and have it access the internet. Unfortunatly I can run a cable from the WAG120N to where the TV is. So it I can get the E1500 wirelessly bridged to the WAG120N, I hope I can get around this issue.
I have updated the firmware ont he E1500 to get Bridging support, but from what I can tell it only provides bridging via an ethernet cable. Is there away to bridge wirelessly?
    Cheers
    Mike
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Linksys wireless routers don't support wireless bridging.
    2. Either install 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato or buy a dedicated wireless bridge and connect the E1500 to the bridge. That way you can also use the wireless in the E1500 for wireless connections.
    3. Otherwise check power line ethernet. That's often a better and more reliable solution.

  • WRT610N router and a WET610N wireless bridge problems

I purchased a WRT610N router and a WET610N wireless bridge and have had a major hard time to get them to work together.  The router setup went fine.  Internet works perfectly on several machines and devices.  The bridge on the other hand has been a big issue.  I keep getting "Error 105" when the wizard trys to search for the bridge on the network.  This search happens 2 or 3 times during the setup, and it has failed repeatedly at each instance.  Sometimes it lets me go a bit further, but it's never completed.  I called support, and they didn't know much about it, then we got disconnected and the second guy didn't "have the skills to work with that device" and the first guy appearantly didn't update the notes.  I exchanged the bridge, but the second has fared no better.  I'm now thinking it might be the router.  One thing that leads me to that is the connection button never seems to initiate any proceedures on the router.  I can hold that thing down for two minuets and the lights never get going.  Anyone have any experience with these?

You have to make sure that your router is running it's latest firmware...
    Download Firmware 7.27 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
After re-configuring the router you need to configure the Bridge, to configure the Bridge you have to make sure, Wireless Settings on the Bridge and the Router are exactly identical so that they can effectively communicate with each other...Your Bridge should be assigned Static IP Address of 192.168.1.250, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0...Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1(Assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...After setting up your Bridge you should unplug the Router and then the Bridge, wait for a minute and connect the router first, wait for another minute and then connect your Bridge...It should work...

  • Simple question: Physical wireless switch, and booting

This is a question for those who have a laptop with a switch that enables or disables the wireless network: Do you have to manually press this button before you want to establish a wireless connection?
Until kernel 2.6.31 I could start my wireless connection at boot without pressing any button. However, since kernel 2.6.32 I have to physically press the button on my laptop and then issue the command that establishes the connection (I use the net-profiles daemon for this). This means that I cannot establish the connection at boot. Various rfkill options (hard, soft, blocked, unblocked, or blacklisting rfkill) do not change this behavior. I was just wondering whether this is normal, and whether this can be avoided?
I use an old laptop that I do not carry around, and it uses the rt2500pci driver. The BIOS does not have any settings that automatically enable wireless.
    Thanks!

With OSX, one can use a USB adapter (DLink and others make compatible adapters). Compatible PCI cards are also available. Both will need drivers; some PCI cards will work with the drivers imbedded in the OS. Typically, the required drivers will come packaged with the card or can be downloaded.
The third option, and I think the best one, is to use an Ethernet Wireless Bridge. These communicate via the Mac's ethernet port and configure with a browser, so they are platform independent; no drivers are required. I use a DLink DWL G-820, but other vendors make them as well. Setup of the bridge adapters is a bit more difficult, but not terribly so.

  • E3000 Wireless Bridging to a Belkin Wireless Router

I need some help to setup a WIRELESS BRIDGE.  I got a new E3000 which works great so far for my basic wireless and LAN needs.  But I want to use my old Belkin wireless router (G) as a bridge to connect my BD-Live Blu-ray player and any other wired devices in that location of the living room. The Belkin router is access point / wireless bridging capable.  I have the E3000 setup for DHCP, starting address at 192.168.1.100, and 50 users.  I've set the 2.4GHz Channel to 9 (equal to the Belkin router).
Am I supposed to put the Belkin in Access Point mode and enable wireless bridging?  Or disable access point mode and only use wireless bridging, and disable the routing functions (DHCP, etc).
Am I supposed to manually add a client (the Belkin) under the "DHCP Reservation" with the IP I give it under access point mode?  Should this IP address be inside or outside the DHCP range?
This should be a good start.  I'm sure there will be questions.
My first question is: Should I

Your questions would be better in a Belkin forum. Basically, the E3000 is working and all configuration necessary has to happen on the Belkin.
I don't know the Belkin you probably won't be able to use it at as access point and bridge. Thus, I would say you have to configure it as wireless bridge only. It should also not do any routing/IP network related functions, in particular it should not operate as DHCP server or NAT router. When properly bridge, everything should be connected on ethernet level.
The IP address of the belkin itself has the only purpose for configuration. A wireless bridge would not require any IP address for its basic function of wireless bridging. Of course, as most people use IP most devices have web interfaces or other configuration interfaces based on IP.
Thus, you could either assign a static IP address on the Belkin or use DHCP and assign it either with DHCP reservation or a free DHCP IP address. The latter obviously makes it more difficult to access the web interface of the Belkin, if necessary.
I would recommend to set a static IP address on the belkin itself. This is more stable, e.g. in a case where the E3000 is not responsive after a power failure when everything is booting up.
Static IP addresses and reserved IP addresses should be assigned outside the general purpose DHCP address pool.

  • E3200 as wireless bridge.

    Hello Cisco Home Community,
I rrecently bought an E3200 to replace my failing WRT54G. ( RIP )
Anyways, my current set up works great but I will be returning home to live with my parent for the summer since my school lease is up.
    My set up:
    Laptop (wireless n)
    Desktop (wireless b/g/n)
    Xbox 360 (wireless n)
Pioneer's VSX-1012-K Reciever (Built in airplay but is wired only)
I would like to set up a wireless bridge using the E3200 but can't quite figure out how to do so.
Also, is anyone able to provide insight to if I will be able to use AirPlay if im hooked up to my parents wireless network and the reciever is wired to the bridge?
    Thanks you in advanced!

Define wireless bridge. From what you write it's unclear if you really mean a wireless bridge.
A wireless bridge links two wired segments through a wireless link.
If you want toe E3200 to connect wirelessly to your parents wireless router then it's not possible. But your old WRT54G wouldn't do that either. You must run an ethernet cable to use the E3200 as wireless access point.
Also remember, that even if you could configure the E3200 as wireless bridge it wouldn't really help you because then the E3200 is a wireless bridge and no access point anymore, i.e. you could not connect your wireless devices to your E3200. You would still need to get another wireless access point to connect to the bridge to accept wireless connections...

  • Need Help using WRT54GL as Wireless Bridge for Xbox

    Hi.
I need help configuring my WRT54GL as a wireless bridge for my xbox.
I have a Billion BiPAC 7404VGO currently in service as my main router/modem. i.e. I have my ADSL connection and PC connected to this. I also connect to this with a laptop.
I have an original xbox at the other end of the house (cat5 NOT an option).
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the rest of network. I have a WRT54GL I can use for this. I just dont know how to set it up.
The WRT54GL has Firmware Version: v4.30.7 (out of the box).
My Wireless network is using WPA.
I have a VPN setup through to work via the Billion.
The idea is to stream media from my PC to the xbox (media centre).
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

  • Wireless Bridge vs Print Server

I just bought a network capable printer (10/100).  I have a wireless network with a wrt54g.  I want to connect the printer wirelessly in a distant room from the router.  I have an extra wrt54g that I could use if possible to make the connection.
Should I get a WET54G wireless bridge and connect the printer through it, or should I just get a WPS54G wireless print server and connect the printer to the network with that?
What's the difference between the bridge and the print server, other than the USB port on the back of the print server?  Is there any distinct advantage of one over the other?
    Thanks!

    Thanks gv. This is great!
I looked into the Hyperwrt-thibor.  I found information that leaves me slightly confused.  I must assume from the table below that "wrt_a" would be the "router" and "wrt_b" would be the "bridge/router".  Correct?  I gathered this from the IP address...
    Basic WET Setup
                                                      WRT_A              WRT_B
    Basic Settings
    Internet Connection Type         DHCP                  Disabled
    Router IP                                   192.168.1.1       192.168.2.1
    DHCP Server                             Enabled              Disabled
    Basic Wireless Settings
    Wireless Mode                           Access Point       WET
Again, thanks much.  It's great to learn something new.  It's times like this that I realize just how little I know....

  • Setup Wireless Bridge Linksys WRT54GL to connect with MI424WR

I tried to follow the following instruction http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge#3._Access_the_client_router_configuration

I had that bridge setup before I switched to FIOS. No idea what the problem is.

How are you trying to connect? WAN on the WRT54GL to the LAN on the Acriontec? If you try to modify the Actiontec to run as a bridge, and it is the primary router connected to FIOS, you could run into issues. Also the Actiontec needs to handle the connection of TV STBs if you have them. Please provide more information on how you are trying to connect these devices.
I just read the page from your first post. You are trying to do a wireless bridge and use the WRT54GL as a Wireless extender. I have not done this but it could be that you need to program the new Actiontec SSID and Key into your WRT54GL. Sorry I can not be of more help. I thought of getting one of those routers and loading DD-WRT, but opted for IP-COP on a cheap home brew PC.

  • Connecting two networks with wireless bridges

    Hello all,
We are trying to create a true CAN. We have 2 sets of 2 buildings each. One set is on the 172.23.x.x network and the other set is on the 172.25.x.x network. Each set has routing in place to go out over their respective MPLS circuits (which will be removed once this project is done). Each set also has their own vtp domain each containing ~30 vlans.
Right now, there is a wireless bridge at each set of buildings and they can reach each other fine according to the vendor. I am trying to figure out an efficient way to tie these two networks together keeping their current vlan and local topology in place.
    Site 1:
    Vlan 1: 172.23.1.x
    Wireless bridge: 172.25.1.x
    Site 2:
    Vlan 1: 172.25.1.x
    Wireless bridge: 172.25.1.x
Any help is appreciated. The idea is that all traffic from site two will now traverse the wireless bridge and use all resources and routing available at site 1.

OK wel now the only solution left for you re-designing the IP addressing or if you want same  ip address either increase the scope or range of ip address per vlan or use DHCP server to provid Half the address to both sides. but the interface connecting interface must be a Layer 3 or Layer 2 ports. The only concern should be DHCP server vlan over lapping can be manage by Configuing VTP (Client/Server) .
              (Switch) ====wireless------------------wireless====(switch)
Trunk (Layer2 port)                                                 Trunk (Layer2 port)
and for vlan just if one dhcp server  nothign to worry  and incase of multiple server just load balance it will also provide the reduncency in you network.
other option is simple using L3 approach and change the ip address only for resourches you want other people to access.

  • AP541's using wireless bridging are falling over.

We've three AP541 on a network.  The first is connected to the internet router, the other two are at either end of the network perimeter connected to the first wirelessly (wireless bridging).  Although it all worked at inception, shortly after clients connected to the two at the perimeter lost connectivity permanently.  although we can get things working by swtiching all off and on again in sequance, it never works for more than a few hours/days before dropping again.
Is anyone else doing wireless bridging and seeing these issues on the AP541?

  • Configuring the WRVS4400N v2 to operate with a wireless bridge

I have a Motorola WRG850G wireless router setup as a wireless bridge (router functions disabled).  The SSID, channel number & security options are set identical to the WRVS.  I assigned it a static IP address of 192.168.10.148.  My WRVS is 192.168.10.1.  The DHCP addressing range is set to 192.168.10.100 through 192.168.10.149.  I have not been able to get this bridge to connect to the WRSV.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Thanks for the response.  For configuration purposes, both devices are in the same room.  Both devices are using the latest firmware.  The security settings for both are WPA2, AES encryption with a passphrase.  I read elsewhere about various successes and failures with wireless bridging and different security settings.  Should this be a concern here due to the age difference between my WRVS4400N and my Motorola WR850G?
