ETL Data Lineage Question

Hello,
Is there a way in Informatica (9)  to generate ETL data lineage for all the mappings and export it to excel?
Similar to Oracle BI APPS ETL Data Lineage excel document.
Please suggest
Thanks in Advance.

  • Data Federator data lineage and impact analysis

    Hi,
I am looking for the use of data lineage and impact analysis feature in data federator at Universe level.
Can I know which objects are using which fields by uisng impact feature in the data federator.
    Thanks in Advance.

I realize this answer is a cop out but I'll suggest it anyway. Upgrade.
I struggled with getting the lineage and impact analysis working in 10.1 and had to do quite a bit of trial and error in the Apache configuration files, DAD's ,etc. because the lineage reports were web based. I never got them working in Production due to other much more pressing implementation issues at the time and never went back to fix them.
In 10.2 and above the reports are much easier to get with no real configuration needed.
Anyway, back to your question, I would suggest going back through the 10.1 documentation on getting those to work and have someone a bit familiar with setting up Apache help you. I did get them working in our Test environment but its been so long I can't recall all the steps and tricks, sorry.

  • OBIEE Data Lineage

    Hi all,
    I have implemented data lineage.
Now I am looking to add the data lineage link to my dashboards using the following HTML.
    <!-- <p><font class=Nav onclick="JavaScript:GoNavEx(event, '<Location of Lineage Report>','','Table','Col','<Location of prompted report>','table',*'PROMPTED VALUE'*,'');"><img src="<image source>" alt="View Data Lineage"> Data Lineage</font> -->
    My question is:
Say for instance I need to click through and prompt my lineage report by more than 1 PROMPTED VALUE I.e. I have 3 separate elements in one report that I want to show lineage for e.g. 3 different KPIs on one report and I want to see lineage for all of them. How would I manipulate the code to ensure that it passes more than one value through to the report?
If this is not possible would I be able to add the lineage link to the end of the table and have a new column with a lineage link in it for EACH kpi?
    Thanks.

If my understaing is correct, you need to pass mulutiple values to a report

  • Data Lineage in Data Modeler?

I wish to create a model for a data warehouse and show the data lineage from the source system model to the data warehouse model. Is this possible in Data Modeler?

there is no lineage diagram in Data Modeler. Otherwise thee is an "Impact Analysis" page in dialogs for objects in relational an logical model. So for column you can track usage in relational model and through mapping to attribute in logical model can track usage in dimensional models and data flow diagrams.

  • Data Lineage - DAC Subject Area

    Hi All,
In the DAC OOTB repository, there is a Data Lineage Subject Area. By default it is inactive.
Its task names look very promising (indicating connections to OBI webcat, rpd, etc.), but I could not find any INFA workflows behind them.
Has anybody has an idea if there is any way of using it?
    Any experience here?
    Thanks!
    Michal

I know about the data lineage documents on metalink3 and yes, they are useful.
The missing part however is the rpd/webcat metadata. Also some connections inside of DAC are not covered.
This subject area looks very promising, but does not have any Infa mappings behind.
Any other guesses? What is a purpose of it?
    Michal

  • Data lineage subject area in DAC

    Hello All,
can anyone provide me the details of the predefined inactive subject area "data lineage" in the DAC. I mean what all this subject area contains.

Comcast is testing usage plans (AKA "data caps") in certain markets.
The markets that are currently testing usage plans are:
Nashville, Tennessee market: 300 GB per month and additional gigabytes in increments/blocks ( e.g., $10.00 per 50 GB ).
Tucson, Arizona market: Economy Plus through Performance tiers receive 300 GB. Those customers subscribed to the Blast! Internet tier receive 350 GB; Extreme 50 customers receive 450 GB; Extreme 105 customers receive 600 GB. Additional gigabytes in increments/blocks of 50 GB for $10.00 each in the event the customer exceeds their included data amount.
Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Maine; Jackson, Mississippi; Knoxville and Memphis, Tennessee and Charleston, South Carolina: 300 GB per month and additional gigabytes in increments/blocks ( e.g., $10.00 per 50 GB ) Economy Plus customers have the option of enrolling in the Flexible-Data plan.
Fresno, California, Economy Plus customers also have the option of enrolling in the Flexible-Data plan.
    - If you live outside of these markets you ARE NOT currently subject to a data plan.
    - Comcast DOES NOT THROTTLE your speed if you exceed your usage limits.
    - You can check out the Data Usage Plan FAQ for more information.

I just got a call today that I reached my 300GB limit for the month.  I called and got a pretty rude response from the security and data usage department.  The guy told me in so many words that if I do not like or agree with the policy that I should feel free to find another service provider.!!! I tried to explain that we watch Netflix and XFinity on-demand alot and I was told that that can not be anywhere close to the data usage. I checked my router and watching a "super HD, dolby 5.1" TV show on Netflix will average about 5-6 GB per hour (1.6MB/s) ... sp this means that I can only watch no more than 1-2 Super HD TV shows a day via Netflix before I run out of my data usage.    This seems a bit redicilous doesn't it? Maybe the TV ads about the higher speed than the competition should be accompanied with "as long as you don't use it too often"   Not a good experience ...

    Hi,

    SAP Data Archiving
1.0 Introduction to Enterprise Data Archiving
Currently, a large number of enterprises use SAP R/3 as a platform for integration of business processes. The continuous usage of SAP results in huge amounts of enterprise data, which is stored in SAP R/3. With passage of time, the new and updated data is entered into the system while the old data still resides in the SAP enterprise system.
Since some of the old data is critical, it cannot be deleted. The difficulty is keeping the data you want, and deleting the data you do not want. Hence, a SAP database keeps on expanding rapidly and enterprise systems, which have limited data retention abilities for a few years, suffer from problems such as data overflow, longer transaction processing times, and performance degradation.
The solution of this problem has led to the concept of Data Archiving in SAP. Data Archiving removes out-of-date data from the SAP database that the R/3 system does not need online, but can be retrieved on a later date, if required. This data is known as archived data and is stored at an offline location. Data Archiving not only consistently removes data from the database but also ensures data availability for future business requirements.
One rule of thumb is that in a typical SAP enterprise system, the ratio of data required to be online and instantly accessible to old data, which could be archived, and stored offline is 1:6. For example, if an enterprise has 2100 GB of SAP database, the online data, which is frequently used by SAP users will be 300 MB and the rest (1800 MB) will be scarcely used and hence can be archived.
    1.1 Data Archiving u2013 Features
It provides a protection layer to the SAP database and resolves underperformance problems caused by huge volumes of data. It is important that SAP users should keep only minimal data to efficiently work with database and servers. Data archiving ensures that the SAP database contains only relevant and up-to-date data that meet your requirements.
Data archiving uses hardware components such as hard disks and memory. For efficient data archiving, minimum number of disks and disk space should be used.
It also reduces the system maintenance costs associated with the SAP database. In the SAP database there are various procedures such as, data backup, data recovery, and data upgrade.
SAP data archiving complies with statutory data retention rules that are common and well-proven techniques.
SAP data archiving can be implemented in two ways. In the next section both options will be discussed in detail.

  • Essbase Data Lineage

    Hi,
Is it possible to extract data lineage information using the Essbase Java API ? I would like to find out where the data comes from, text file, SQL database etc ...
    Thanks

    In short, No.
In a very long explanation - It's possible (through a series of non-API related activities) you definitely do not want to do it... I speak from experience.
In my spare time, I built a very complex series of VBA functions using various API calls to extract certain portions of an outline (based on a given retrieve), then populate a new sheet with other members to help trace the data. I then inserted each data set into its own array and generated a report out of this.
Was it slick, feasible, and time-effective? Not at all.
Was it an interesting exercise? Absolutely

  • OBIEE  Apps data element question?

Please any body explain me, how we can find the right data is coming from the source.
Through Informatica in the OBIEE Apps
    Thanks in Advance
    Praveen

You can install the "data lineage" option, but it needs a lot of effort.
In Informatica, there are system table that gives you information about metadata, so you can find the "link" between a target table/column and source(s) table/column(s).
Then, in OBIEE, you can do the same for the link between presentation column and physical column.
Since physical column in OBIEE are your target column in Informatica, you can do the link between everything.
You have to put that into one big (more more) table, integrate that into OBIEE and create report that, for a presentation table/column, will give you the source table/column. If you work with the catalog manager, you can even do the same with the web catalog.
But Oracle has already simplified the job by giving you RPD and documentation about that.
The first thing to do is to search for "data lineage" in BI Apps. Ask your Oracle contact for more information, they're aware about that because it's a frequent need in BI projects.

  • Data Integrator Questions

    Hello,
I was hoping for some guidence on how i can access sap data without using a BW system. The Data Integrator and RapidMarts seemed to be the main option. Just wondered if this was a suitable appraoch for my scenario.
Im the UK, our clients sap infrastructure is based in Germany. We do all our development on that system and it holds all our custom tables which i need to report from.
I initially installed the SAP Integration Tools for Crystal. I can build a report and dircetly see Tables and Function Modules, but the speed is really bad and prone to crashing.
My new plan is to install Data Integrator on our Network. Then use that to pull all the tables and data we need into a RapidMart on our network. Then i can use our BO XI 3.1 edge installation to host all the reports / dashboards built off the mart.
Is this a reasonable approach, am i missing anything or is this all theoretically possible??
    Any advice is great appreciated.
    Carston.

    One at the time....
A RapidMart is nothing else than a jump-start. Imagine this: I have been asked to build a Data Warehouse for Cost Center Accounting. So I have asked:
"What kind of reports?" "Costs per CostCenter, CostElement, Period".
"Where does the data come from?" "This and that SAP table"
"How can I implement the delta logic" "Using this approach...."
"Are you fine with this Data Model to support your reports?"
"Are you okay with the Naming Conventions I invented?"
At the end I had a very good working Data Warehouse project for my customer. Then I got another Customer engagement where I again had to build a Cost Center Accounting Data Warehouse. Same questions, very similar answers. But instead of developing the data model, the ETL flow,.... all from scratch, I would have reused the previous code.
In other words, a Rapid Mart is us running through a very professional Data Warehouse project with a couple of customers simultaniously and then we provide the code to you. So you are trading investment costs against Consulting costs and time and uncertainty. You might not like the Data Model, feel free to modify it. You need more, its just a first version of your Data Warehouse. You can't use 90% of wha we did - don't by the RapidMart but take your time to implement the Data Warehouse yourself.

  • Another Unlimited Data Upgrade Question

(Yes, it's another one of those questions.  I'm sorry, but searching - on here, or on Google - only left me with conflicting information.)
    Here's my question:
A friend of mine is interested in selling me his Galaxy Nexus phone.  Would I be able to keep my single-line, grandfathered, unlimited data plan if I buy his phone and switch to it, or is that only possible if I were to buy the phone new, directly from Verizon?
    Here's my story:
I have an HTC Thunderbolt that I purchased when it launched.  A few months after buying it, it turned into the HTC Bad Dream, and now it's the HTC Nightmare.  Random heat issues, battery draining, random reboots... It's the same song and dance we've heard before.  These are design issues with the phone; not something a replacement or a repair would fix.
The real annoyance, though, is the mobile hotspot.  I pay $30/month to use the hotspot legitimately, unlike the users who root their phones to use it without paying for the option, but ever since Verizon started blocking the third-party wireless tethering apps, I've had to choose between using the stock mobile hotspot app and unleashing the above-mentioned Phonemageddon, or simply going without.  I could drop the option from my plan, but seeing as the unlimited data plan no longer exists, I wouldn't be able to get it back without switching to a tiered or shared plan.
Switching to a more stable phone would alleviate my issues, hopefully, but the difference between Verizon's retail prices and other retailers is hundreds of dollars.  Giving up my unlimited plan, however, wouldn't make the venture worth it.  A definite answer to the question of buying used - either from a Verizon representative, or a customer who's been in the same scenario before - would be very helpful.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
If you provide your own equipment (your friend's Nexus or from ebay etc) then YES you can keep unlimited data. Another wayto keep unlimited would be to pay full retail for a new phone. But I'm sure your friend will give you a better deal than that
    Hope that helps!
