Etude

From: http://blogs.sun.com/marchamilton/entry/what_is_etude
Unlike other virtualization technologies that may run an older OS without supporting it, Sun will fully support Solaris 8 applications running with the Solaris 8 Migration Assistant when the customer purchases a Solaris 8 Migration Services package, as well as the underlying Solaris support subscriptions. With over 5000 Solaris 10 applications shipping today, there has never been a better time than now to move to Solaris 10. Besides the Solaris 8 Migration Services, Sun has services and programs to help you migrate from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and other operating systems to Solaris 10.

I am having the same problem too would like to find out how to fix it ?
Cheers.

  • Etude - migrating Solaris 8 to Solaris 10

Hello, I'm looking for some help from someone that has experience with Etude.
I have an application that's running on Solaris 8 - I'm looking into porting this application onto Solaris 10 using Etude. My application however has a kernel module - and I know the application vendor no longer makes this module for Solaris 10. How would Etude handle this?
    Thanks!

From the blog postings by Sun employees that I've read it appears that Etude just recreates the user environment so I would expect that it would fail on kernel modules.
It might be easier to find some blog posting from a Sun employee and post your question there.

  • Etude for Solaris 9 migration? What about Solaris 9?

    Hi all,
Need your advice. I'm made to understand that Etude is there to help users to migrate Solaris 9 onto the modern and cheaper hardware platform, but how about Solaris 9? Please advice.

    Most definitely a software question,
thus outside the scope of this hardware Forum for Sun-branded servers.
(It seems to be a Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 migration tool.)

I suggest you consider posting this into one of the forums for OS installation.

    L'erreur -200077 s'est produite à Assistant DAQ
    Raison(s) possible(s) :

  • Sidebar height help needed

    Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver CS5 for the first time and hope I'm on the right track with rebuilding my site.  This page is a work in progress (but getting close).  I used a built in template (2 column, header, footer) and changed it a bit.
I am wanting to extend the sidebar height so it will meet up with the footer.  There is a space at the bottom showing the background color (white) of the center section.  I'd like the sidebar background color (gray) to continue down to the footer.  I've messed around with padding and margins but nothing fixed this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
AND... does it look like I'm on the right track with everything else?  (obviously, I haven't linked any of the accordion items yet)
    Thank you
    Connie

/* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

Thank you - I am determined to get this right.
As for navigation, what would you recommend for a catalog with numerous subitems?    I had built a Spry Menu for my catalog template pages (same basic items but in a horizontal menu)  But as you mentioned, that is not a good idea.  My current site http://brassworks4.com was done in GoLIve and I was able to build my menus in MenuMachine, both vertical on the home page and horizontal on the catalog pages.  Now I'm not sure what to do.
I am planning on putting all my data in tables within the same page as a Spry Data Set (so non-javascript people can view the tables)  Is that a good idea?
I'm at a loss now for the menus/navigation items.
    I appreciate your input.

  • Why no support for the Leica M9 in LR 2.6 RC?

Hi - bemused that there's no support for the M9 in this release (especially as LR is bundled with the M9).  Even more confusing as the Standard Adobe calibration profile for the M9 that comes with the LR3 Beta is pretty good (beats the embedded profile that comes with the Leica DNGs) - and this can be added to the LR2.5 profile library with a bit of copying and pasting.
I'd be grateful to hear from Adobe if there's any chance of a good M9 profile making it to the 2.6 final version.  Seems a shame to miss this opportunity.
    Thanks
    Chris Tribble

    Hello Chris,
    thanks for the nice feedback.
For the moment, I will use LR for the fast preview of all images,
cataloging etc., and RawDeveloper for the fine tuning, as often as the
    image permit it.
    (sorry for my english!)
Lets hope that we will get through all that without loosing our
    perfectly nice temper !
    All the best to you,
    Alain

  • How to create layout template pages?

I'm attempting to layout pages of text in Page for an eBook using the Layout mode and linked text boxes.
I think what I want to do (and I'm open to a better way of doing this) is to create a bunch of pages all with the same layout. While I can insert a new page from the supplied templates easily enough, none of them suit my needs, so I want to create my own Template document with its own subset of pages. Or at least, add my own Page to another template. The aim is to be able to click Insert/Page/MyPage for each new page, so that each one has - ideally - a new linked text box that the text will flow into automatically. Or less ideally, to have a load of pages, each with their own text box, that I can link.
However I can find no way to do either of these things with a custom layout page I've created. Is it just not possible in Pages, or am I missing something? All advice/links etc. gratefull received.
    thanks
    Matt

From my point of you, trying to teach you that the first thing to do is to search carefully in the user guide what you didn't is the best way to help. But it seems that you are unable to understand that.
You just understand: the wanted info is in page #wx of resource ABC.
For sure, trying to teach you that take more time that bottle-feeding you
Searching with the keyword "template" bring this page quite immediately :
Searching for "linked text box" brought this one quite immediately too.
It required more time to upload the screenshots here than to reach the pages but my rules are given by Confucius :
Quand on désire savoir, on interroge.
When we wish to know, we question. When we want to be capable, we study.
See again(Revise) non-stop what you already know. Study ceaselessly of the new. Then you will become Master(Teacher).
When a man is hungry, it is better to teach to him(her) to fish that to give him(her) a fish.
When you plant a seed once, you obtain the only harvest. When you educate people, you obtain one hundred from it.
The upper man asks only himself(itself); the vulgar man and without merit asks for everything the others.
The English version is the result of an automatic translation so I'm not sure that it's a good one.

  • Can't find downloaded audio from our iTunes U Site

We are testing a password-protected site.
We want students to be able to directly download content to their iPod Touches, without going through a computer. Once downloaded, we can see video files, but not audio ones. This is on iPod Touch 3G, freshly restored with iOS4. Can someone else test this for me?
Go to http://ilex.conncoll.edu (rough visual prototype pages)
Enter demo for user and demo for pw. You will see thee podcasts.
Guitar Recitals has only one group. I downloaded 1-Italiana and 2-Etude in Bm. Once downloaded, I can't find them anywhere on the iPod. However, if you do a search, they come up and can be played!
Videos are not a problem, they show up under Videos.
Anyone have any idea where the audio files would be listed?
Are we doing anything wrong with adding metadata? Right now there is only an image.
The audio files show up correctly in iTunes on a computer, under iTunes U as part of a podcast, the problem seems to be the iPod. This is also an iPod support question, but I thought I'd start here.

    Just some additional details:
    1. Audio files directly downloaded on the iPod Touch from open sites in the app iTunes>iTunes U show up in the app Music>iTunes U, and are grouped into their respective podcasts. Audio files downloaded from our password-protected site are nowhere to be found (unless I'm blind), and when they are through search, are not grouped with files in the same podcast, in the little upper file list window (like open download files are).
    2. Video files directly downloaded on the iPod Touch show up in Videos, and are grouped as episodes in their respective podcasts, but video files downloaded from our password-protected site are displayed as belonging to individual episodes, though they are part of one podcast.
Wondering if adding any metadata to the files before uploading would fix this, or if this is a bug.

  • Can't drag and drop or import movie clips or ver. 8 projects into iMovie 9

    Hello:
I just installed Leopard (OS X) with iLife and iWork (although I didn't actually install iWork). I can't drag and drop .mov or .dv files into a project. If I "File-->Import-->Movies", all the types I want to import (.mov & .dv) are grayed-out. I created and saved a project with the older version of iMovie (8) and then tried to import it into iMovie 9. The result is a message in the clips panel that says "No matching video. Choose a different options from the Show pop-up menu at the lower left corner." So far, everything I wanted to do is bust. Can somebody help?
    Thanks.
    Etude.

    How?
    easy way:
    • double-click mp4 to open it in QuicktimePlayer.app
    (does it play the video?)
    • File/Export/choose 720p (if optional, if not 480p)
    • import THAT into iMovie using iMovies import routine, proceed …

  • Problem with webserver

    Hi,
I am on Linux RHE 4.0.
I want to use webserver to define cache group but when i want to log on the webserver, i have these errors :

I think then program ttBackend don't find libclntsh.so in $ORACLE_HOME/lib, but i can't find where i set LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the TT Deamon .
When i connect with TT Administrative user on my serveur, ORACLE_HOME, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and rigths are set correctly, i can use sqlplus.
    Anyone can help me ?
    Regards,

    I install TT 6.0.4 .
If i restart ttDaemonAdmin with non root user (with the user install), webserver don't run. If i restart in root with /etc/init.d/myInstance restart, webserver run.

  • Cannot import Directory object :(

Hi mates, I'm beginner in Directory Server v5.2 and LDAP at all, so maybe my error is silly or I have made dumb mistake but if you have any idea why the following error appears, I'll be grateful:

  • Formation & Certification

    Hello,
I am looking of a training and a certification in Oracle "Oracle Database 11g : Database Administrator " and
    "Oracle Spatial" in Frabce.
I work in the field of geographical information
    Thank you for help.

Please excuse myFrench it is not good
S'il vous plaît excuser mon Français ce n'est pas bonTo try to learn Database Administration and Spatial at the same time is unusual. There is not too much synergy here (Hans would be a better judge).
If you are interest in the spatial course good SQL and PL/SQL are necessary first.
Actually for Spatial a PL/SQL OCA or OCP would be a good certification to precede your training. (IMHO).
(dans mon humble opinion)To get an overview of DBA things then the 2-day DBA course is good. Perhaps that is all you need for your purposes.
These are just my views. Your choice of training seems unusual; but I am not fully aware of your circumstances. I wonder if you may be better to concentrate on DBA or Spatial first and then do the other. I personally think you should consider the route:
Ceux-ci sont juste mes vues. Votre choix d'entraînement semble curieux ; mais je ne suis pas entièrement conscient de vos circonstances. Je me demande si vous pouvez être de mieux concentrer sur DBA ou Spatial premier et fait alors l'autre. Je pense personnellement que vous devriez considérer la route : 1) 2-Day DBA (self course).
    2) Study PL/SQL (and SQL) to a good standard, perhaps take a certification at PL/SQL OCA or even PL/SQL OCP.
    3) Attend Spatial Training
    4) Study for Database Administration.
For an Experienced DBA who has already passed 1z0-052 and 1z0-053 and who is working with developers using Spatial taking the Spatial training and submitting as a hands-on-course is sensible; for others this may not be the best choice.
+ Thanks to the first free translator on my googe search, today it was [http://ets.freetranslation.com]. I spotted one of its attempts to change experienced DBA to DBA expérimenté.  While use of the translater seems a joke teachers tried to teach me french for 7 years betwen 9 and 16 yet when I order a glass of wine in Dieppe a massive bottle appears.  What the translater sometimes helps is to ensure I have used reasonable english in the answer and someone who finds English does not understand.
Edited by: bigdelboy on 27-Sep-2009 03:38 ( A correction - expérimenté in French seems to translate to tested (or experienced) rather than expermenting or experimental as I had assumed. I shall go back to trying to get my English right).
